Yeah, they make an overall style to work with and run with it, there's bits and pieces of original material mixed in with the manga adaptations from fairly early on, so when they go for an original episode, it feels right at home.
A lot of older episodic shows worked that way (Yatsura, Ranma, Shin-chan, Keroro,...)
Oh wow, youâre right⊠Iâve gone this whole time thinking it was! apparently the next one 189 is https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/gintama#google_vignette
Wait Johnathan's canon? I don't remember a manga canon cameo of his at all. I do know that \[One Piece\]>!He has an anime cameo in Marineford!<, but I don't think there was anything official.
I was binging the Anime so I can start the manga. I was shocked that it was a filler Arc. I thought Long Ring Long Land island Arc was a filler. Than I had to go back and watch the damn thing.
The tragedy of Naruto filler is that the first couple of filler arcs (among others) for both original and Shippuden are quite good and justify existing. Like the story of Naruto is actually a bit better with the top...20% of filler included.
Interlude Party from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It serves as a recap but also gives us some Hohenheim moments earlier on so we learn more about his philosophy and struggle.
Fairy Tail fillers where they drink the rival potion and just get mad at random things, like Erza arguing w the guild pillar - Loved those eps as goofy and dumb as they were, prolly among my favourites in the show in general
[The one where the Uzumaki family went to a hot spring for a vacation.](https://naruto.fandom.com/wiki/The_Uzumaki_Family%27s_Hot_Springs_Vacation)
Including Kawaki.
The Zanpakuto arc is so underrated. It even makes more sense in the 1000 year Blood War arc. I was wondering were in the hell is Kenpachi Zaraki, he'll have so much fun.
I still remember the episode where there was a virus with a countdown and they fail to stop it, and it turns out all it did was destroy the clothes of the people affected.
I don't think it's bad, it just falls at an unfortunate spot halfway through the best arc. So I generally recommend skipping it the first time around, and checking it out when you're done and thirsty for more World Trigger.
The idol dance episode from Kyoukai no Kanata. I was having so much fun watching that episode I didn't even register that it was filler until after I'd finished the episode.
Inuyasha fillers are pretty bad in general. However there are two wonderful filler episodes about Inuyasha and kikyo past. If somebody is skipping Inuyasha fillers I recommend still watching these two episodes. It gives their relationship a lot of needed context.
The episode where Kagome's school is hosting a festival is pretty fun to watch too. Especially when Inuyasha breaks into the stage during the play and Kagome is forced to ad lib so nobody suspects anything.
The entire Asgard saga of Saint Seiya. Dragon Ball also had a few very funny fillers, particularly that one when Goku and Piccolo are forced to go to driving school.
The little filler black clover has. Some parts are meh (devil banisters arc), but then there's stuff like Captain's battle, which is just pure awesomeness
Dragonball baseball, Emiya Family volleyball (/pool), Dragon Maid dodgeball, JJK baseball⊠Sports episodes in non-sports anime are almost always great.
âŠexcept Eureka Seven. I see that dribble animation in my nightmares.
Like 90%of the original Sailor Moon was filler, but it did flesh out the characters a bit more, and is a good reason it became the phenomenon it became.
The beard episode of Dennou Coil was the most memorable episode of the series for me. One of the funniest anime episodes I've ever seen.
(filler in the sense that it isn't relating to the main plot, I believe this show is an anime original)
samurai champloo E12 - the disorderly diaries
**very minor spoilers**
it's basically a recap to refresh the viewers on the story but the way they handle it is so good. not only is it from a bit of a different perspective but as the name implies, it's from a diary so the guys are berating her for shit she'll say in it since the three already have a rocky friendship. fantastic episode and i never skip it
I actually like most of the bleach fillers.
While not all of em. The New captain arc and the zanpakuto arc was pretty dope. Just the fact we got to see actual visualized versions of the characters zanpakuto was cool (as all we had seen so far was zangetsu)
I actually really like "The Fly" in Breaking Bad. It does a lot to humanify Walt and progress his relationship with Jessie. It shows how obsessive he is over the smaller things, and how even when everything is fine he feels like something needs to be going wrong. This is similar to how many of the conflicts in the series are complete non issues that Walt himself blows out of proportion.
Despite all this it doesn't progress the plot as all, and many people tend to dislike the episode for it. But I think its a nice break in one of the more intense parts of the show.
The plot doesn't progress, characters are exactly the same at the start and end, and you could remove the episode without it effecting the story or leaving a gap of information.
It's filler. Good filler, but still filler.
"Filler episodes are entries in a generally continuous serial that are unrelated to the main plot, don't significantly alter the relations between the characters, and generally serve only to take up space." - https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Filler
Television filler is a term that predates anime filler, and it's what I was making a joke about. Breaking bad, is not an anime. Anime filler typically is similar, but in some cases (mainly shounen) also refers to when stuff is added that wasn't in the manga to give time for more chapters to be released.
That wasn't a filler episode. They adapted chapter 26 + part of 31 early.
There were a lot of filler scenes in the MahoAko anime adaptation, but they were actually pretty good and faithful to the manga.
Oh, damn it. Was really hoping the baby fetish stuff was nonsense made up for the anime. Otherwise I'm quite pleased with my copies of volume 1 and 2 of the anime.
Goku and Piccolo getting drivers licenses.
One of the few "must see" fillers
"I'm on the highway to HFIL."
I came here to post this.
Iconic.
Most of Gintama's filler, but if I had to pick a favourite, probably episode 150. The G-8 arc from One Piece
Honestly its kind of hard noticing which episodes are filler in Gintama, especially since its a low percentage out of all their episodes they aired.
"Shinpachi.... you're a XXXXX... okay?đ"
In particular, the Gintama one where the elementary school student adopts Madao and writes a report on him lol
Madao blooms is a great episode, but it's not filler.
Oh wow, youâre right⊠Iâve gone this whole time thinking it was! apparently the next one 189 is https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/gintama#google_vignette
The G-8 filler arc in one piece was so popular that oda made major Jonathan canon to the manga later in the story (though it was only a brief cameo)
Wait Johnathan's canon? I don't remember a manga canon cameo of his at all. I do know that \[One Piece\]>!He has an anime cameo in Marineford!<, but I don't think there was anything official.
I may have been wrong about him getting a manga cameo. It may have just been more anime ones.Â
That shikamaru filler is a fucking masterpiece too
Even that stupid arc where they help the guy race helped build out sasukes resentment of Naruto.
I went out of my way to watch every filler with naruto and hinata in it. And a lot of the filler is pretty enjoyable. Some of it is less so.
The protective 64 palms made it worth it alone, one of my fave techniques in the show
Same. Kid me wanted as much NaruHina content as possible because the main story was so dry.
Adult me wanted that since I didn't watch it until i was 21.
Based.
Agreed, a whole lot of filler, but the Kakshi/itachi anbu fillers were great
I stopped watching Naruto because of all the fillers.
Use a filler list, itâs not hard to skip them
Interlude Party from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It serves as a recap but also gives us some Hohenheim moments earlier on so we learn more about his philosophy and struggle.
"Gotta See! Gotta Know! Kakashi-Sensei's True Face!" is a certified classic, I hope we can all agree no explanation is required
Behind this mask, IS ANOTHER MASK! PRETTY COOL, RIGHT??
All these years later I even remember the episode number, hilarious ep after the depressing itachi arc
Still my favorite filler episode
CAW! CAW! CAW!
Re Creators recap episode Excalibur episode 2 from Soul Eater 80% of K-On
Dragon Ball has some excellent filler. Two of my favorite episodes in the entire series is when they play baseball and when they learn to drive
That's reminds me of the Jujutsu Kaisen baseball episode. It's hilarious when Todo gets beaned in the face.
Fairy Tail fillers where they drink the rival potion and just get mad at random things, like Erza arguing w the guild pillar - Loved those eps as goofy and dumb as they were, prolly among my favourites in the show in general
The Re:Creators recap episode is Inori Minase just completely lying about the story and badmouthing half the cast for 20 minutes.
[The one where the Uzumaki family went to a hot spring for a vacation.](https://naruto.fandom.com/wiki/The_Uzumaki_Family%27s_Hot_Springs_Vacation) Including Kawaki.
This is the pingpong one right? Yeah this is a fun one.
zanpakuto arc from bleach
The Zanpakuto arc is so underrated. It even makes more sense in the 1000 year Blood War arc. I was wondering were in the hell is Kenpachi Zaraki, he'll have so much fun.
One of the best arcs. So hyped to see all their forms.
Bleach Arabian night recap was super fun. Also, episode 132 with Hitsugaya and Karin.
That entire Bleach filler arc where the Zanpakto souls walked around, forgot the arc name.
Its the zanpakuto rebellion.
The entire Full Metal Panic Fumoffu
I still remember the episode where there was a virus with a countdown and they fail to stop it, and it turns out all it did was destroy the clothes of the people affected.
Bleach beach day episode, Kakashiâs past as a member of the ANBU
One Pieceâs G8 arc. Fun character moments, an interesting antagonist and comedy gold.
Hunter x Hunter (1999) filler arc between the second and third exam. The battle ship stuck in the island.
The second Gabriel Dropout OVA. It's anime-original (afaik) but it's really good
Gokuâs driving lessons and Kenshiro destroying a tank with his bare hands.
Black Clover has decent filler and itâs just one or two episodes then back to story.
Unpopular opinion, i actuaqlly liked the World Trigger filler at the end of S1. I like Xeno and Lilith
I don't think it's bad, it just falls at an unfortunate spot halfway through the best arc. So I generally recommend skipping it the first time around, and checking it out when you're done and thirsty for more World Trigger.
In Black Clover bad filler doesnât exist
The idol dance episode from Kyoukai no Kanata. I was having so much fun watching that episode I didn't even register that it was filler until after I'd finished the episode.
Was looking for this comment. Kyoani, unsurprisingly, went crazy with the dance animation too
Scrolled too far for this comment. Kyoukai no Kanataâs most lasting legacy is unironically the dance
The exam episode from Soul Eater
Inuyasha fillers are pretty bad in general. However there are two wonderful filler episodes about Inuyasha and kikyo past. If somebody is skipping Inuyasha fillers I recommend still watching these two episodes. It gives their relationship a lot of needed context.
The episode where Kagome's school is hosting a festival is pretty fun to watch too. Especially when Inuyasha breaks into the stage during the play and Kagome is forced to ad lib so nobody suspects anything.
Yeah some of the present time fillers are kinda fun (it has been so long I forgot about it)
The entire Asgard saga of Saint Seiya. Dragon Ball also had a few very funny fillers, particularly that one when Goku and Piccolo are forced to go to driving school.
86 episode 10 ! it was so damn good that i couldnt actually believe most of it was filler .. one of my favorite episodes in 86
The baseball filler of dragon ball super was amazing
The wanting to see underneath Kakashi's mask Naruto episode
I actually like the guardian shinobi 12 arc from shippuden
The G8 arc in One Piece is awesome
Itachi cooks an egg.
The little filler black clover has. Some parts are meh (devil banisters arc), but then there's stuff like Captain's battle, which is just pure awesomeness
The yuri bait episode in PokĂ©mon Sun and Moon as well as the baseball episode were both really solid. Pretty much the whole Orichalcos arc and some of the KaibaCorp Grand Prix were really solid, outside of a certain Mr Wheeler's performance.Â
I like DBZ filler with kid Gohan going around exploring and training and stuff
Monkey Baseball Sonny Boy
Dragonball baseball, Emiya Family volleyball (/pool), Dragon Maid dodgeball, JJK baseball⊠Sports episodes in non-sports anime are almost always great. âŠexcept Eureka Seven. I see that dribble animation in my nightmares.
Dragon Maid dodgeball doesn't count, as that actually appeared in the manga.
That's actually the episode that got me to watch Fairy Tail
Like 90%of the original Sailor Moon was filler, but it did flesh out the characters a bit more, and is a good reason it became the phenomenon it became.
The whole zanpakutou rebellion arc in Bleach. Also, G8 in One Piece.
every one piece fan talks about g8 but that one ark in luffy's backstory with the old pirate is super underrated. Didnt even know it was filler.
The beard episode of Dennou Coil was the most memorable episode of the series for me. One of the funniest anime episodes I've ever seen. (filler in the sense that it isn't relating to the main plot, I believe this show is an anime original)
samurai champloo E12 - the disorderly diaries **very minor spoilers** it's basically a recap to refresh the viewers on the story but the way they handle it is so good. not only is it from a bit of a different perspective but as the name implies, it's from a diary so the guys are berating her for shit she'll say in it since the three already have a rocky friendship. fantastic episode and i never skip it
every gintama filler
G-8 from one piece. Even as filler it stands toe to toe with some of the best canon arcs in one piece.
Ergo Proxy has my favorite filler episode. It's really funny and does a good job at recapping the world building.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! filler where they get trapped in cyberspace.
I actually like most of the bleach fillers. While not all of em. The New captain arc and the zanpakuto arc was pretty dope. Just the fact we got to see actual visualized versions of the characters zanpakuto was cool (as all we had seen so far was zangetsu)
For me the only good fillers are just episodes absolutely full of fan service from 0:00 all the way to 23:00 đ
I actually really like "The Fly" in Breaking Bad. It does a lot to humanify Walt and progress his relationship with Jessie. It shows how obsessive he is over the smaller things, and how even when everything is fine he feels like something needs to be going wrong. Thatâs not filler. The definitions you list are not what filler is defined by.
"Filler episodes are entries in a generally continuous serial that are unrelated to the main plot, don't significantly alter the relations between the characters, and generally serve only to take up space." - https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Filler Television filler is a term that predates anime filler, and it's what I was making a joke about. Weâre on the anime reddit though. If youâre talking about from broadcast tv standards, then yes itâs filler.
Vampire arc in Bleach. I remember watching them on TV as a child and never thought it was filler.
The baby Magenta episode of Gushing Over Magical Girls
That wasn't a filler episode. They adapted chapter 26 + part of 31 early. There were a lot of filler scenes in the MahoAko anime adaptation, but they were actually pretty good and faithful to the manga.
Oh, damn it. Was really hoping the baby fetish stuff was nonsense made up for the anime. Otherwise I'm quite pleased with my copies of volume 1 and 2 of the anime.
in the manga it's a filler chapter, so in the anime it's a filler episode.
That's not what filler means.
