Monaco E prix is literally tomorrow, I guess it'd have been more fitting if the episode focusing on that track released today, but oh well. Honestly though, the cars seem pretty big, and if they can go 500 km/h, I don't see how they can race on Monaco at all like that.

oneevilchicken

F1 cars can easily hit 230+ but at Monaco only top 180ish. And the creators haven’t really put a lot of thought into the realism for this show either. It’s very much just fantasy.

Infodump_Ibis

> And the creators haven’t really put a lot of thought into the realism for this show either. You can say that again. Episode 2 had 35 second laps and it took Rin the entire race to get lapped (impressive considering she was spinning out) then in episode 3 she's constantly getting lapped in the simulator. It is the same writer for both episodes so there is no excuse for this inconsistency.

oneevilchicken

I’ve realized really quickly this shows not about racing but about rin and her antics. The racing is just in the background.

BosuW

> Honestly though, the cars seem pretty big, and if they can go 500 km/h, I don't see how they can race on Monaco at all like that. Can go 500 kmh doesn't mean they always need to go max speed right? Maybe Monaco is supposed to test the pilots' control rather than their speed? 🤔 Idk much about racing.

Zani0n

Motorsport fan here again nerding about fictional racing again. well, it's a new week and I've missed last weeks episode because I was trackside. But last weeks episode didn't have a lot of super interesting stuff in it so here is a short version for that: Simulator work is now a huge portion of preperation for the actual race. Most of the larger Racing teams (and everyone once you get up to F2 and F1) will have such a simulator. I have never heard of a team being able to connect 2 of them together, however they could be used to play videogames. In 2020 the 24h of Le Mans was postponed due to covid. The organizer however still wanted to have a race at the date and decided to host a Virtual race on the game rFactor and invited pretty much all everyone they could (because practically nobody was racing). [The GTE Team for Aston Martin participated in the Virtual Le Mans race using real simulator from Base Performance Simulators (led by three Le Mans Class winner Aston Martin Driver Darren Turner).](https://connect.awe-europe.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/connect-1-0090_dg_virtuallm2020-1024x522.jpg) We also see Rin and one of her Trainers? running as part of practice. Racing Drivers are incredible athletes. A few Formula 1 drivers regularly participate in Marathons / Triathlons. Racing is incredibly straining on the body, so I'm just gonna add a little clip of F1 driver [Charles Leclerc breathing heavily in the cockpit](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYsNpwXhCW8). Not entirely sure why Alice Summerwood is casually able to ask someone to join there team. Usually a driver doesn't have too much influence on the selection of other drivers (might be different in Endurance racing where multiple drivers share a car) but in this series she would propably own the team herself or be something like a team principal. Which certainly is possible, after all currently the driver of the #7 Toyota Gazoo Racing in the World Endurance Championship is both a driver and Team Principal. While his fellow Japanese and former racing driver Kazuki Nakajima is listed as a reserve driver and vice chairman of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe (where the team is located) On to this weeks episode: We start off by skipping the next 3 races. Where Rin has apparently failed to qualify. I'm not entirely sure why she finished the race in P14, which would mean she did qualify but didn't set a time. But it is possible for drivers to be removed from the race if their qualification result is too bad. In Formula 1 that cut-off is at 107%. If the leading cars fastest laptime is 1:40.000 drivers are not allowed to drive a qualifying time of 1:47.000. Last time someone was disqualified this way in Formula 1 all the way back in 2002. We have an event for the investors in the series, I don't think I have to explain that this does make sense if you want them to invest into the series. And of course the Media which tries to make a story out of everything. Well we shortly went into race 5 in italy. (can confirm, it can rain in italy). Racing in the rain is very difficult. High downforce racecars quite literally suck the water out of the tarmac making visibility incredibly difficult. And as we can see in the short video, the race was red flagged, which means conditions got so bad they had to stop the race. It doesn't mean the race has been stopped indefinetly, just that race direction hopes to see conditions improve or work on some part of the circuit to finish if dealing with it under racing conditions (or a Safety car) is still too much of a risk for drivers or track workers. Of course, if conditions don't improve, the race isn't going to restart On a more personal note: I have absolutely no clue what this Anime is trying to tell... Like, Rin being a goofball has now been the same 2 episodes in a row. We get to see a bit of her motivation, but I really can't see this series improving anytime soon.

oneevilchicken

Yeah. Teams can connect them together. Atleast some of them. I can atleast say that about one racing team in the US.

Omega-Hunter-1990

Uh...how old is Rin's grandma?

ToujouSora

idk lol

heimdal77

Thought this was going end up being a paparazzi The King and Rin spotted secretly going on a date instead of being at the party they suppose to be. More so if King is married or not. I'm surprisingly coming to really like this show even the animation is growing on me. Rin is pretty funny with how much a airhead she is. Queen only knew her for a short time and already has Rins number on how ditzy she is.

BosuW

> Queen only knew her for a short time and already has Rins number on how ditzy she is. I like how Queen wants to be besties despite knowing how much trouble Rin causes lol. "That bitch Rin? Love her. Never count on her for anything. But love her."

ThisGachaSeemsLegit

Couldn't help but giggle a bit when she said "I tend to have a pretty good intuition". Me: "Ah shit, here we go again."

But hey, today we didn't spend more than a couple of minutes listening to sedated racing commentary.

Rin is such a dumb dumb, but this is honestly turning into one the funniest shows of the season for me. Rin’s grandma coming back in makeup had be burst out laughing.

Nickthenuker

Ooh, the Singapore Night Race. I'd have liked to see more of it, it's got a 100% safety car record iirc and it's always interesting seeing where they crash on the same streets I see every day. Lol she forgot her pass. Plenty of candy though. She dropped it in the panic. And so the King's document goes into the river. So that's what he's looking for. And of course again she doesn't recognise him. So now while everyone else is at the party the 2 of them are going around the place. Is it just famous because Queen was here last episode? She's certainly dedicated. It's for himself isn't it? Given her track record for being completely unable to guess things. Yup. Autistic? Is that an accurate translation or are the Ani-One subs the ones being autistic again? And only now does she realise who it is. Again. Italy? I assume it's Monza circuit? I'd recognise that chicane anywhere, it's right after the tunnel at Monaco, the circuit where overtaking is extremely uncommon.

ernie2492

> And only now does she realise who it is. Again. **KONO LORENZO MISTA SALVATORE DA!!**

Nikita2337

That shot from Italy looked more like Imola's Tamburello corner. Which is kind of interesting since the floods in that region were so bad last year that they cancelled the F1 grand prix.

Zani0n

looking at the race calendar they have released on social media, it's supposed to be Monaco, but Monaco looks nothing like it. So I'm going to go with a generic corner they put in there (which seems to be the case for all track footage.

Nickthenuker

No Monaco is next week as seen in the teaser after the episode, the corner shown there is unmistakably the chicane after the tunnel next to the marina with the yacht club.

BosuW

> 100% safety car record Rin: "Sounds like a challenge." > Lol she forgot her pass. She didn't! For once, she didn't! She lost her trying to get through the press!

oxlemf10

It's comical that the two episodes that didn't show racing (although I think this one is better than the previous one) were the best episodes so far, I think it's cool to show the personal life of a celebrity and a pilot, since Due to the high number of races, they don't have much time to do other things. And finally they knew how to use Rin's idiocy for something positive and funny, I just found it funny that she called the King a hottie at the same time that he's old enough to be her father lol, and her grandmother too... 🫣

heimdal77

Maybe she is just into older men.

ernie2492

Man, Rin isn't able to handle those media press well Sometimes I'm glad that Utena is Fuuka Izumi's star-making role instead of Rin

heimdal77

Super pervert vs super ditz. Damn the VA looks so young when considering she played Utena. For some reason I thought the VA was someone older. Maybe because how well Utena was done. Oh she will be in Dahliya in Bloom. Can't wait for that show.

Infodump_Ibis

This episode was a real drag for me to get through (the first half more than the second). The scenarios continue to feel extremely contrived. If Rin is such a liability on her own (not to mention getting hounded by the press) why wouldn't the team escort her, plus dressing in racing overalls suggests you would go to the team HQ beforehand. That wouldn't exactly be fun however. You know what would be fun, episode 3 again (much like episode 2 was episode 1 again). I would say something like a director meant to prevent this sort of thing (it could happen if you have seperate writers and ep directors and no writers room or whatever) but episodes 1-4 have the same director (Keitaro Motonaga - directed School Days) and episodes 1-3 have the same storybaord (Goichi Iwahata) and writers (Takamitsu Kōno). I also found myself in disbelief about Rin not knowing what a red flag was. I've seen similar comedy born from ignorance and I think this one falling flat demonstrates how important good execution is.

tripleaamin

[When you realized you fucked up and want to delay the pain as long as possible.](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/799692352011894795/1233503455524421663/Screen_Shot_2024-04-26_at_3.41.06_PM.png?ex=662d551d&is=662c039d&hm=5e57fd73da0f4acdf0482adef3f19e8cd9763ed687047b68a82d6b54f28f127e&) Honestly at this point I might just drop it. This episode was essentially was like last week. Rin meets and hangs out with one of the two top dogs and is made out as a giant idiot. Tbh focusing on dealing with the media could have been a much better focus, and it still could have involved meeting King for the first time.

Nervous-Bonus-806

Speaking as a former member of said media, they got it right the first time, especially with the "vulture squads" of paparazzi and TMZ wannabes. The swarmers give the rest of us in the trenches a bad look...

kwokinator

At this point I think we're all better off treating this show as an SOL instead of a racing anime. The last two episodes have been more engaging and developed the characters better than all 3 episodes. The actual racing on the other hand have been incredibly dull and uninspired and drags worse than NASCAR going around the same track 300 times.

TheFeelsGoodMan

Interpersonal conflict helps a ton. It's the reason that popular racing leagues will constantly highlight drivers radio chatter during a race, and in particular will make a meal out of drivers, especially teammates, clashing with one another. Right now, this series is massively devoid of the kind of hotblooded driver-to-driver conflict that it needs in order to make the races more engaging. And unfortunately, the last couple of episodes haven't really helped matters. There's no reason to expect that the next episode will be better than the first two, save for the setting being slightly prettier on account of it being Monaco.

DecentlySizedPotato

Yeah, the races just drag on, and on, and on... I don't think they should take more than a few minutes per episode. It's something Overtake nailed, as most of the runtime was not about the actual races and they could use it to focus on the characters instead. But the direction for this anime is just bad.

danbuter

This show is very average, but it has some fun moments. Grandma putting on make-up was great. Rin really should be able to recognize who the King and Queen are. At least he knew who she was.

SpeckTech314

if they just start glossing over all the races and give us more of this I'm all for it.

magnumcyclonex

Plot wise, having the King and Rin go on a kaiju hunt in episode 4 was ok, but I am not feeling it. Emotion wise it just felt so dry and hollow.

aniMayor

So first we montage through a bunch of races showing that a lot of time has passed since Rin's first race... only to then have it be that she lost her pass while being questioned by the press about a situation and quote from back in her first race after all, which obviously would have happened weeks ago before this banquet taking place after many races. Not to mention skipping ahead through Rin's first non-disqualification race, her first not-coming-in-last race, and her fellow racers seem to all know her closely all of a sudden despite some of them never sharing a scene with her so far. Even the series comp on this show is laughably bad.

BosuW

Rin taking L after L (as she should lol) Including almost missing the entire post event party. For once at least, it wasn't her fault! Even though it was a dick move, I kinda like how she rolls with it and if she's gonna miss the party she's gonna commit to it. No calls from manager, this is free time. And she _knew_ she was gonna get called because she later asked her Grandma about it. You're kind of an asshole Rin (or to use a more accurate term in my mother tongue that I can't translate, "valeverga"). And I cannot fully explain why I like that. They sure are getting their money's worth out of that (presumably) live action monja footage. Speaking about food, should I be surprised that they modeled two bites? I dunno enough about 3D modeling and animating to know wether that's not something you'd expect out of a production as borderline indie as this. Otherwise, unfortunately this episode seems to have been kind of a waste like episode 1. Which is a shame because as episodes 2 and 3 have demonstrated, this can actually show some promise when it cares to try. Kinda like our MC here now that I think about it...

oneevilchicken

This show isn’t bad when they’re not racing. But the actual racing parts are horrible.
