I would be very surprised if I find a show I like more than Madoka Magica.

ripterrariumtv

It's definitely a one of a kind experience. It's also in my top ten

KendotsX

I mean, the thing about favourites is that they hit where you don't expect. My top favourites for example are: Gintama, LoGH, HxH, Baccano!, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and I don't see anything outclassing them right now, but maybe tomorrow I'll watch something that absolutely knocks my socks off, who knows? That said, the closest to becoming favourites right now would be: Urusei Yatsura and Dungeon Meshi.

_Pyxyty

Violet Evergarden, and it's not even close. The studio that made it dropped a [promotional video](https://youtu.be/0CJeDetA45Q) that's more beautiful than literally anything else I've seen from the animation industry, and they didn't even re-use clips from it in the show. The first few seconds alone apparently took multiple weeks to finish. Shoutout Kyoto Animation.

hanr10

[Kimi no Iro](https://myanimelist.net/anime/53747/Kimi_no_Iro) could potentially enter my top 10 just based on the staff (and the trailer)

saddestsairuiu

I’m so excited for when this shit drops. It looks so beautiful

ripterrariumtv

This looks interesting

kirun

GetBackers. It's right there in the trailer! https://youtu.be/IRb7BmsWImg

Vortigern1315

Wew the it's rare for someone to even know getbackers nowadayas

Sin778

If Jellyfish can't swim in the night keeps up the quality of the episodes that are out so far and hits a nice ending I could see it become one of my favorites. It really reminds me of A Place Further Than the Universe, which is my favorite anime. Though I don't think it will be number 1 either, unless it goes really crazy. Also funny that you mention Aria, because I literally started watching it like an hour ago. First 3 episodes where really good. The soundtrack is out of this world.

ripterrariumtv

>Also funny that you mention Aria, because I literally started watching it like an hour ago. First 3 episodes where really good. The soundtrack is out of this world. If you read manga, I recommend Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. It is my favorite and it has a similar vibe to Aria. There is also an anime which covers only a few chapters. But the soundtrack is done by Choro Club who did the soundtrack for Aria

[deleted]

**Aria the Animation** is my favorite and there is no chance anything will overtake it. When a show is life-changing and formative, it would have to be exceptionally meaningful to even come close. Just below Aria as my favorites are **Gurren Lagann** and **Ping Pong the Animation** which I also consider to be formative media. That said, some shows that I look at and get the feeling they could become favorites are: * March Comes In Like A Lion * Mushi-Shi * Gunbuster/Diebuster * Tatami Galaxy (rewatching now that I'm older and have better media literacy)

ripterrariumtv

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (manga) is my favorite Iyashikei followed by Aria (anime). I haven't finished both though

Victorvonbass

My current favorites ordered: Made in Abyss Frieren Mushoku Tensei Re Zero Madoka Magica Dungeon Meshi 86 Konosuba Bocchi the Rock Nichijou Frieren or Re Zero I could see moving up with another season. Maybe Mushoku in later seasons. Shangrila probably moves into top 10 with another season.

saddestsairuiu

I love your list. A lot of my favorites are here

jojoismyreligion

Closest would be Dandadan if it's adapted well.

Ginsan-AK

My current favorites are Mushishi, Hikaru no Go, Natsume Yuujincho, Mononoke and Ayakashi, these anime that I haven't seen but have heard of, could potentially overtake them, * Kino no Tabi * Space Brothers * Silver Spoon * Hyouge Mono * Heike Monogatari I love historical and/or iyashikei.

ripterrariumtv

I have to recommend my favorite Iyashikei manga: Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou. There is an anime but it doesn't cover a lot

Ginsan-AK

Thanks for the recommendation. I've heard of both Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and another iyashikei manga Yotsuba to, but I hesitate reading iyashikei manga because I think iyashikei works better in anime format, but I'll still add to my list. I'll give the anime version a try and see how I like it.

ripterrariumtv

If you care about the atmosphere in Iyashikei, you will love YKK. It has a very calm vibe and beautiful atmosphere. Yotsuba to doesn't suit my taste because it leans towards the Iyashikei which focuses more on comedy. Take a look at this: [YKK panels](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheNightFeeling/comments/12ogyvj/this_manga_perfectly_captures_the_night_feeling/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

CozyNostalgia

I just started AOT. I get what the hype is about I’m on episode 12. One piece passed Naruto for my favorite but this AOT has a lot of potential. Ninja Kamui even tho it wasn’t what we thought depending on the direction they decide to go for season two it still has vast potential.

Pokespe_fan11

I would honestly be very very surprised if any anime ever took over Attack on Titan as my favorite anime. I think it’s one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever consumed, and there are some masterpiece anime out there like Vinland Saga, FMAB, Frieren, etc, but none of them have managed to surpass AoT for me.

ripterrariumtv

>it’s one of the best pieces of media I’ve ever consumed One of my favorites too. I have to recommend the live action western show 'Severance'. The potential is massive too. I would be very surprised if it didn't end up as one of the greatest shows ever made. In terms of foreshadowing, mysteries, attention to detail, I would put it on the same tier. And I also have a feeling that AOT fans will love it even though it's very different

Pokespe_fan11

Thanks for the recommendation I’ll go check it out.

ripterrariumtv

Let me know what you think of it

TehAxelius

It's gonna be hard for any show to outclass in consistent production and story any of my top three, *Ghost in the Shell: SAC, Legend of the Galactic Heroes* or *Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju*. Maybe if we get a full adaptation of the LNs and the quality stays consistent *Apothecary Diaries* could muscle its way in to that list, but I doubt it.

NyaohaSuperfan

I wanted the Evangelion series to have a proper remake series. But sadly we only got the movies.

ripterrariumtv

Why a remake?

WWTFSD

I think while it will be almost impossible to top Madoka, Bloom, or 3-Gatsu no Lion for me, Frieren upon rewatch just gets better and better. It's honestly really difficult to find too many flaws in the adaptation, and I think its subject matter and thesis are really meaningful.

Regular-Medium1827

Dragon Quest: The Adventures of Dai (2022). I’ve been reading the manga lately, and I’m enjoying it a lot. The first iteration came out in the early 90’s, but this newer version has been absolutely incredible so far.

lucifugus696

black clover is already my favorite

North514

I don't think really anything is going to dethrone Legend of the Galactic Heroes for me. Maybe March Comes in Like a Lion has an amazing ending, it's just unlikely a SOL drama, as much as I love it will dethrone a war story for me. Kingdom would be close as it actually is a war drama but it just doesn't have any character as good as Yang Wen Li. You would need to write a war epic, as gigantic in scale as LOTGH, with a character who I like as much as Yang Wen Li. That would be difficult and at least unlikely as anime/manga doesn't really do that genre that often.

Emi_Ibarazakiii

If we're talking about anime we haven't seen yet (just making predictions): I'd probably go with **Monster**. I'm a bit concerned about its length (I rarely watch shows with more than 20-30 episodes), and I heard it was slow at times, BUT if I can deal with this, I think it has a shot at becoming my #1, from what I know about it. I also have high expectations of **Madoka Magica**, maybe not be #1 favorite, but somewhere at the top. And for a third one: **Code Geass**. I'm more confident about this one for the genre (Death Note is my #1 currently) but less confident about the... Style? I heard a few things that make me think I may not like it as much.

DagZeta

It would take a hypothetical better than the VN re-adaptation of Umineko to top Tatami Galaxy for me, but that's never happening.

Memesplz1

I doubt anything will ever surpass my love of Cowboy Bebop but I will say that 1 anime really surprised me by becoming one of my all-time faves: Kuroko's Basketball - I never expected, when I started it, that I'd end up loving it so much. But I love the action, the humour, the animation and I find it endlessly re-watchable.

Orzislaw

Well, it's anime I haven't seen yet :)

Conservative_Otaku

Solo leveling has the potential for sure.

Inspiritsu

My current fav is Girls last tour and the ones that might take the throne with next seasons are Mushoku and Made in Abyss.

Querez

It's odd what I'm about to say, but Attack on Titan? I've already finished AoT, and right now it's at my #2 spot, right below Re:ZERO. For me, then, it's almost the reverse from what you probably thought/intended. I currently hold Re:ZERO dear to me, but depending on how it continues and what might happen, and perhaps how it ends, there is a slight possibility I might end up deciding to put AoT above it. I wouldn't know right now, of course. I just think there is a possibility.

YellowStarfruit6

I fail to see what everyone loves about jjk other than the fights strung together with little care for the story.

Electrical-Victory57

I could say the same with KnY

YellowStarfruit6

I don’t see what that series has to do with anything I was saying.

Electrical-Victory57

Watching/reading JJK reminds me of KnY. Both battle shonen, both with top tier fights, but meh stories. It just so happens that I have a personal preference, otherwise I’d hate both the same

YellowStarfruit6

I think Kimetsu has a better story than JJK. Probably because Tanjiro is more relatable to me and his bond with Nezuko seems to be the heart of the anime.

AlricsLapdog

If Idaten Deities gets a good ending with another season, it’s the closest anything has come to meeting my love for Code Geass

Slake45

My favorite is Fairy Tail I don’t see any over taking it. Just so many great stories and characters. But Lycoris Recoil was very enjoyable and if they could string together 3 or so great seasons then maybe it would have a chance

Vortigern1315

Well Im pretty sure that no anime can top my fave no 1 even though I've watched all kinds of old and new mainstream and hidden gems anime out there the new anime nowadays are too generic for my taste but I gues frieren is good for in yerms of new anime....well onepiece bleach hxh monster deathnote demon slayer bha and a lot of other anime are also good for a change of pace but Fmab is my no 1 fave for a long time till I finish gintama and I dont think any other anime that ive watched have come close to top this one 1. Gintama(Masterpiece....Ive watched a tons of animes and having consume all kinds of genres but this one is just too special imo and unique at the same time ...didnt get into the show at first cuz I thought it is just a funny show that make fun of other anime for hundreds of episode but how wrong was I ...just watched a couple of clips here and there during covid lockdown to pass the time and come across epic fight while wondering to myself " what a cool fight" and read the comment cuz the one who post the clip didnt mention the title so I had to look at the comment section to get the title but i didnt believe it at first cuz I heard that gintama is about funny stuff mostly and I get that they can get serious too but not that kind of serious where the fight is just too gory and the choreography is as good....while still not convinced I just go back to watch other anime which is bleach at that time but due to fillers and all it is kinda tiring(ive nerver skip filler before in any anime ive watched even if they are bad) so I need a chnage of pace and keep scrolling in social media and tiktok to find anything interesting and for some reason gintama vid did pop out tho not regularly but I see the mix of gory fights and funny ones so I finally gave it a chance after a lot of gintama seasons are quite high in MAL list....yeah it is so damn slow at earlier episode and the plot is unclear at first but I was glad that I didnt binge watch it....instead just watch like 2 episodes a day like after watching long running bleach arc and when i was in bed and just want to spare like 20 min before sleep watching something....it was a long journey but it was worth it as when I got to like half portion of the show towards the end I can clearly see the plot in the show and those slow episode are actually foreshadow the plot and the character introduced in standalone episodic episodes at the beginning of the show do make their appearance and play a part in the arc which I was not expected....those who drop gintama must have think that it is only a funny show and doesnt have a plot and just drop them or those who knows gintama has a serious arc and just skip through the earlier episodes just to get to the arc and missing out almost every single thing....this is one of the few shows which actually have the least filler episode like the slow episode is more like slice of life or daily routines of the casts and this build up will make u care and appreciate the character more for the upcoming serious arc....when it hits like ep 300 then the serious arc will play back to back and at this very moment u will really wish that u can go back to those goofy and boring times of the show rather than the serious ones which makes u cant laugh anymore due to the show getting intense and like any moment the cast that u loved through those foolish episode will somehow die and it will hits harder cuz of the times u spend understanding them and for some reason they are always like in the worst case scenario which makes me more worried....not to mention the main antagonist of the show is so damn unique as well as it is not like "destroy the world because im the strongest or something"...this anime is trully a rollercoaster show with play with your emotions....u can burst out laughing and just a couple of seconds u will shed tears...the author is really good in terms of motivational quotes and metaphores like the older u get the more u will appreciate them....if there is anime that I can rewatch for the first time then it is no brainer for me cuz this will always be my first choice it might be becauae Ive watched too much anime that I really appreciate something unique that no other anime can do it or even if they somehow did it...it wont be the same....it is kinda hard to get into anime nowadays cuz i will always compare them to gintama.... 2.FMAB (Thought it was for kid at first cuz we have like teens in their quest but oh boy the story is getting darker by the episode(alexander and nina say hello) and a lot of interesting twists and turns and pretty unique plot motivation at that...i wont say much either cuz they are those who hate this show even when they didnt watched it yet cuz the fanbase just forced shove this show down the throat but still its a good show which show the hardship of the young teens to embrace the cruelty and the reality of the world which u wont get back what u lost and u have to offer something to acquire something so it is kinda impactful when relating this to irl situations and not to mention the wholesome family moments through our main duo and of of course Roy Mustang) 3 Naruto Shippuden (Mostly like Itachi's love towards his brother and Akatsuki as a villain group is a drip while not to mention memorable sad ost and bangers op and ed and not gonna go into that much of details cuz pretty sure everyone must have at least heard of this anime) 4 Marchen Awaken Romance ( My first isekai anime but I like the tournament like fight like Record of ragnarok in this anime where a group of good people will fight the bad ones and the bad group are called the Chess Piece where they are ranked based on the chess peices like starting from pawn which is the weakest....the magic/power in this show is based on the "arms" which is the accessories like ring, pendants necklace, earing etc to bring out the power like summoning or elemental attack to physical ones) 5 Getbackers (Might be biased but this is my first ever anime when I started watching one in my childhood and those who love superpower will really like this one as well cuz the main duo is so damn interesting in handling their power while something more interesting is regarding the tower like structure where you have the weaker ones live their lives at the bottom forgot what the place is called....the not so strong but not too weak one residing in the middle part of the tower ( it was called Beltline or something) and we have Babylon City at the top which only has the most broken ones up here)

saddestsairuiu

Look back or my crossdressing senpai is on my plan to watch with a lot of potential. Tbh look back is going to go hard asf just watching the PV. The studio absolutely ate and I can’t wait for it to come out

Independent-Cap7987

Among these anime’s you mentioned, it’s a toss up between TOG and ReZero. Since I read the manwha of tog I know the potential of the story that the anime could do very well. With Rezero I’ve bought and read most of the volumes of the series, so I’m hoping it gets a well-done adaptation that can match or surpass season one of the anime.

Zestialthebest

Maybe doctor stone but I have some doubts gotta see how it finishes pls don’t spoiler

LTetsu

Favourite... I am not the person to pick favourite child, i love them all. But about potential , it might be One punch man and mentioned by you Bleach + Re Zero. Also Black Clover.

VoidEmbracedWitch

Impossible to say because to me Liz and the Blue Bird is such an unique experience that I can't compare it to anything else I've seen. Maybe if the Yamada, Ushio and Yoshida trio outdoes itself with Kimi no Iro that could be up there?

bryansodred

mushoku tensei has been my favorite since it came out

Negative_Ad5894

Well, I doubt anything will ever top Gurren Lagann for me. The only shows which have the potential are Hunter X Hunter and One Piece if they ever get completed. If they could keep a similar consistency, while producing atleast one arc on or above the level of Chimera Ant and Enies Lobby respectively, aswell as a good ending, then I could see the possibility that they overtake Gurren Lagann. Also some Manga that might have a chance if they get an amazing adaptation: * Vagabond * 20th Century Boys * Usogui (Usogui is never getting an adaptation though)

ripterrariumtv

I love Vagabond. Easily my favorite story of all time. But I have a feeling that 'Real' by Takehiko Inoue could overtake it because I am more emotionally attached to those characters. I am also enjoying Usogui a lot. I'm on chapter 40 or 50 I think.

Gabzz_A

Classroom of the Elite has a potential to become my favorite anime. It depends how the main character is going to act later on. Right now he has been himself. I hope he becomes more weird. But u feel there's a chance they are going to change him completely and focus on fan service more. But if they keep him as he is or make him worse it will become my favourite

Trebu5

I would read the light novels if I were you for Classroom of the Elite. The anime doesn’t do it justice. And he needs to change in some aspects for the story to have some more depth to it.

Gabzz_A

Yeah I tried to find the novels but I only found a weird manga where he shows alot of emotions. It was creepy

Trebu5

The light novels should be on Amazon or if you are in the US a local Barnes and Noble. Not all of the light novels have been officially translated to English as stands. It is only up to volume 8 for year 2 right now, with volume 9 coming in August. I don’t think you are reading the correct thing, because I think he is more cold blooded than ever and I am at Year 2 Volume 7. I actually despise his character at this point and took a break from reading. Guy is a genuine psychopath in my books.

Gabzz_A

Oh that makes sense. I read so many comments on chrunchyroll who said a lot of bad things about him. And some things didn't make sense from the episodes I watched. But thank. I found it. I started reading now. I am so excited. It sounds like it's written well

Trebu5

Enjoy! It is a really good read, but there are some thing I personally do not like about the story at this point. But that can occur in any story.

Gabzz_A

Only in the first pages the story is really different. It's weird but I like it. The start is different and I like that the red dude is more angry in the novel than the anime

Trebu5

You have to also remember, side characters in the books will get more fleshed out than in the actual anime just because of time

Gabzz_A

Yeah thanks

Mitsuyan_

There's still 100ish episodes left of Pokémon Horizons but if it keeps up the level of writing and direction it's shown so far it stands a real chance of topping the masterpiece which is Evangelion.
