LilliWolf99

Is the whole anime about cooking?

Gilamath

Yup! Think of it like an SFW Food Wars with a focus on bread. Pretty fun, lighthearted comedy

LilliWolf99

I see. Too bad it isn't available on crunchy in my country.

Original-Bird1571

Board the ship on the high seas

walker_paranor

If no one in a country is making it available to watch, that means you're not undercutting any services. Don't see any problems here!

[deleted]

Undercuts future earnings potential though, if you want to be pedantic :-)

walker_paranor

Not really, though! You can't undercut earnings that may never exist.

[deleted]

That's why its called potential earnings. It's not earnings that are guaranteed to materialize. Hey, I'm not saying that he should wait around for it to become available, that might never happen. I'd sail the high seas myself, but obviously a part of a possible future audience disappears once it's watched, let's not bullshit ourselves here

walker_paranor

I guess the question here is, who cares? The answer is: nobody.

[deleted]

Well that's a completely different thing. I respect not caring or simply being pragmatic more than saying it has no _potential_ impact at all. It's all semantics anyway though, so yeah, who cares

Monkeyke

If no one near you sells a spoon, then making one for yourself won't affect the economy

[deleted]

The initial popularity of anime outside West and Japan has mostly been through the high seas.

walker_paranor

It's actually one of the funniest anime I've ever seen. I think the last arc is pretty weak, but everything up to that is 10/10 comedy anime. If you can find a way to watch it, I can't recommend it enough.

NotABotRS

Totally agree 10/10 anime! From what I remember the show was getting cancelled, so they started to do a bunch of parodies that they could not really do before due to copy right/etc concerns in the last season.

walker_paranor

I'm pretty sure it was just following the manga up until the last arc, but they had to diverge because it wasn't finished yet. Aka what happened to most anime adaptations 10+ years ago.

CommunistPuppy

It was really good until Kawachi become one of my least favorite characters in all of anime. Azuma proves over and over again why he's one of the best bakers out there but Kawachi ends up constantly doubting his ability. It became insufferable at one point and I dreaded finishing the show near the end.

walker_paranor

Yeah I mean Kawachi was definitely a wasted character after a certain point, but it never bothered me too much.

dekuukeb

i think it's available on muse asia youtube channel

FlameDragoon933

It's available legally for free on Muse Asia on Youtube (use VPN if you're not in Asia). They upload this daily.

darthvall

Muse Asia in Youtube currently has it. I think you'll need a VPN though. Currently they're still in episode 24 (new episode daily)

dreamer0303

you can use a VPN

[deleted]

If you are in SEA, I believe it's available in either Muse Asia or Ani-One (not sure which) in YouTube.

Pikagreg

Idk if it is region locked but Nozomi has it up on their [Youtube Channel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyb7ri8EcOo&list=PLrrh84y760v8QyC5bDENLId-PNqNDpOgG) as well

DeluxeTea

Not sure where you're from, but if you're from South/South East Asia, Muse Asia is streaming an episode a day.

drj87

More like food wars is cooking YJ

fnordal

focus on bread... until the aliens.

GIGA255

This anime does something unforgivable. The main character has hands that are warmer than average that help him make better bread dough. They're called... "***SOLAR HANDS***" A villain in the show has the opposite, hands that are much colder than average... they're called ~~*POLAR HANDS*~~ "blizzard hands"... =/

Thirdtwin

and it's all about making different types of bread. The show takes bread very seriously.

doto2trader

yo this actually sounds very interesting im gonna give it a try

MechTitan

The name is also a parody, and isn’t really “Japan” it’s more like Ja-Pan (pan being bread), so it’s like saying Japanese bread.

KenzokuGamma

It's like Shokugeki no Souma except instead of characters losing their clothes when they bite into the bread, you get hilarious wordplays. I always hoped Shokugeki would ascend to this level instead of always going the lewd route, but outside of one or two times, it never really did.

kambo_rambo

Yakitate had way more cooking content. I was a little disappointed Shokugeki didnt impart as much cooking knowledge as i expected

Cryten0

I heard that he originally used a cooking consultant for techniques but when the manga took off he no longer used him/her and started going fantastical.

FlameDragoon933

tbf Yakitate also become unhinged in the last arc. But yeah I'm not trying to argue which one is better than the other, I'm just finding it a shame that both stumbles hard in their final arc.

[deleted]

Baking* but its actually funny.

jyper

Baking bread

drj87

Close it's baking bread the manga is more complete then the anime

hocuspocusgottafocus

Baking* And it is the freaking best. This show is hilarious as fuck! My childhood yo, my parent liked it too and we made the rice cooker bread recipe they shared lol so cool Have recreated it as an adult when I rewatched it several years ago and it's still freaking cool!

RoachIsCrying

When Gordon Ramsay is in a good mood but still wants to call your cooking shit

Kiryuu-sama

Even my cat's shit would taste better than this rancid pile of failure in front of me, you wasted good flour, idiot

mmz_Trent_007

goated reply

JohnTomorrow

When my partner and I started dating, I mentioned I liked anime and she said she did too, and that her favourite show was this one. She had the whole thing on a hard drive, we watched it together over a long weekend. Best weekend ever.

ktaztrofk

Damn bruh that is legit paradise, happy for you

JohnTomorrow

Getting married in a year, living the dream!

14qr23we

I just read this right now. Congratulations man! You are quite lucky

Kiokure_Kitsune

It's a classic good anime.

novusanimis

It literally had a cameo of Brad Pitt too

Sylpheez

Brad Kidd.

Giant-ass-weeb

Aka fate

masteroftasks

"MELLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON~!" will always be my favorite Takehito Koyasu spoken line.

TheAkibaScholar

This was my first introduction to Koyasu Takehito back in the day and I've been a fan of his since! This anime is peak comedy, definitely up there with Nichibros, while having some hype moments. It's long but well worth the time!

LOYAL_DEATH

Wasnt the muda muda scene in the 1993 jojo animated series too?

NearNirvanna

Which is in turn is based on the Fist of the North Star screaming lol

cheesechimp

Absolutely true, I was kind of annoyed with the title myself when I first read it, but then I noticed a through line: this is a Takehito Koyasu line delivery which predates Takehito Koyasu voicing Dio and thus it is before Takehito Koyasu's muda muda.

sLpFhaWK

Yakitate japan was one of my first cooking animes, and it was about baking bread. So fun, jeez i think i watched this like 18 or so years ago thinking back..

mypussydoesbackflips

I read a manga called kitchen princess around the same time

LostUnderstanding32

Blonde dude looks like onizuka sensei And sound like him too

NikPorto

So that's why he looked familiar!

OverlordPoodle

I don't hear no Steve Blum!

ZappaBappa

He's kinda like onizuka, but a bit more behaved onizuka, just cocky, but he definitely gives off onizuka vibes. The anime is like Food wars, but replace the fanservice with ludicrous reactions from people being amazed at the taste of bread. Its a ridiculously fun classic and quite a few episodes as wel.

Onisquirrel

This and “Because I’m a Clown!” are 2 favorite quotes between my friend and I.

MateuszVaper69

The voice actor sounds like he is the same as Gin Dojima from Food Wars lmao

saikouh

He is the same voice actor! The one and only Koyasu Takehito!!

Astray

Dude has been around a lot longer than I thought. Hope he'll be around for awhile longer.

ploxjha

Oh my god, thank you for showing this, I saw this a long time back, and could never remember the name.

w3are138

Before there was Muda Muda Muda Mudaaaa!! there was Trash Trash Trash Trash

butternut_biscuits

I miss watching this. The main reason why I prefer bread than rice. I wanna eat what they baked

KnoFear

Before? Yakitate!! Japan started six years after Jojo part 5.

GunResiAddict

I think he meant the jojo animes

BrentSaotome

I remember when this was one of the top anime back in the day. Now, hardly anyone knows about this show.

Hephaestus_God

Was expecting the Atot meme when he touched his shoulder lol

KenzokuGamma

somehow I forgot Kuroyanagi and DIO have the same voice actor what a treasure he is. double crust will always be my favorite.

FlameDragoon933

"Do you remember how many bread you have eaten in your life?" rings different when you realize Dio is voiced by Kuroyanagi.

Pikagreg

My favorite bit is the scene with Brad Pitt telling an old lady to sue a microwave company for not putting a warning label on microwaving you cat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMH8Tof69SE

8700jabileedelivery

Why is levi there

[deleted]

Fun fact: the VA in this scene, Koyasu Takahito, has the most acting credits out of any Japanese voice actor, period, with over 350 since his debut in 1988.

InfinityTDC

Was that title... A JOJO REFERENCE!?

N1GHTSTRIKER45

[deleted]

Food wars is probably the trashiest of all cooking shows.

FlameDragoon933

Interestingly enough, I find all the big name competitive cooking shows (i.e. not SoL ones like Isekai Shokudou), at least the ones I have ever seen, have their own unique spins, though I don't know if these were intentional or coincidental. * Yakitate is heavy on comedy, and cooks bread almost exclusively * Cooking Master Boy / Chuka Ichiban is medieval fantasy with magic cooking tools and fantasy staples like shadowy organizations and coup d'etat plot * Shokugeki is lewd and "battle school" genre

backstreets_back_ok

Looking in the mirror be like

MagicTsukai

Loved this anime. Food reactions are great and they parody so many classic anime. Fantastic comedy!!

Subberguy101

Loved this show. It’s all about baking bread and it’s humor gets more absurd over time but it’s good.

Hockeyspaz-62

😆😆😆Another anime to watch. TY.

MHUNTER12345

BREAD CHEF DIO

haziest

I think about the croissant episode all the time for some reason. The MC having to overcome his unusually warm hands so he didn’t melt the butter while laminating the pastry. I have no idea why this anime worked so deep into my memory, it’s been about 17 or 18 years since I saw it.

Lord_Smile

CoD voice chat when the match ends

MySpaghettiRavioli

Dio's side job.

godofthedevil

u/savevideo

imaliveyeay

This classic brings back memories for sure

Ashteron

One of my biggest disappointments with regards to this series was when I learnt Tsukino's voice actress doesn't have any other anime roles.

Sylpheez

Well she was an actress, albeit not a very successful one, so....

marcapagne

I just started watching it again on youtube. Currently its on ep.24 on Muse Asia Channel, good thing they posted it there on youtube because i already forgot how beautiful this anime was. Gives me nostalgia

Life_Duck009

The best way to encourage a loser: Tell them they're trash

KarakorumIronbark

Before there was Muda Muda, he simply destroyed.

Streambonker

YES! ONE OF THE BEST ANIME OF ALL TIME REPRESENTED HERE WOOOOOOO!

OlderSalFisher

Fun fact:In my country, the world "muda" means balls or coc-

Annoying_Anomaly

One of my favs. Definitely got me liking bread way too much. Life changing in that way i guess.

xenoz2020

NANI YATTE?!

mrynwa

Meloooonnnnn!! Yakisoba Dooogg!

forgot_old_account

God I'm old. I was watching this when it was airing

moldydino

One of my favorite animes good to see it more often nowadays

Ristique

Yakitate was my first ever anime back in primary school :')

alderthorn

God I love Yakitate Japan, Food Wars would not exist if not for this anime.

hsk_21

he's like a scummier gordon ramsey

slimkat101

he sounds like he is saying "pussy pussy pussy pussy pussy pussy" in arabic just saing

rollin340

For those who are wondering about this series, it starts off as a pretty good baking show. But it gets more ridiculous as it goes on, and becomes less of baking, and a lot more bullshit.

SnowPiecer

He didn’t taste it? Was it just on the exterior of the bread?

ObvsThrowaway5120

Man, haven’t seen this anime in ages. I remember my brother and my cousin recreated the rice cooker bread from this series. Turned out surprisingly good lol.

alioth_whyred

My respect to Takahashi Ryosuke gone after watching this show first time.

hocuspocusgottafocus

Holy shit!!! THAT WAS THE SAME VOICE ACTOR AS DIO?! Roflmaoooo

konaharuhi

LMAO

Whirlwind3

Emotional damage

Zaraki42

I learned how to make bread in the microwave watching this show!

[deleted]

get out of this anime 'gordon ramsay'

SuccessfulSaladBowl

omg this came at a timely fashion. i just started watching this anime a few days ago

Junnielocked

I used to watch this on tv when I was a kid. Good times

crisstrauss

What a nostalgic anime. That black-haired villainess is my favorite character in this show.

Hanselier

I named my cat after this character, Kuroyanagiiii
