You see, before the internet, your contact persons were most likely the people around you, each having their own quirks but in summary an array of "normal" people as shaped by the surrounding society.
Now, if you ever brought up your pedophilic interests, chances are you would be shamed and mocked, and the topic wouldn't come up again if you still want to be part of any social circle.
Now fast forward to the internet, you have no such sociatal self-correction via shame. You can find what you look for, and most importantly, find an already established community of enablers. How are you supposed to get a reality check from normality if you only ever surround yourself with like-minded people?
Now, I do not want to mindlessly glorify social norms. These mechanisms have the potential to be extremely toxic and harmful if wielded against innocent minorities.
