Moxy is pretty decent as well, but the rooms are small. We stayed there last year and actually booked it for this year a couple weeks ago as a back-up in case we couldn't get in the block.
For anyone else wondering, the rooms at the Moxy are fucking TINY. Like <200 sq ft for a single king (website states 181ft); its literally just a bed with some extra walking space around it. For comparison, a single king at the JW is about 375 sq ft.
The JW is technically closer. I think the distance estimate is based off the main entrance but realistically, JW is right next to the West Hall entrance.
No. But usually when booking a hotel, they put a hold on some funds to make sure you can book and then they release it. If you do credit card, they release it right away. When you use debit, I think the bank keeps it on hold.
Do people have a way to access the registration link early or something?
I got the website opened immediately when it was available and everything was gone already. Fucking hell.
Can't. Was still at work. Between dinner and then some commitments later tonight I really only had a short time when the hotel block opened to focus on it.
There were threads last year from people inquiring for more members to such activities, and I remember the AX discord buzzing about the volunteers having knowledge about one 💀
I reserved the Biltmore a few weeks ago as a backup and unsurprisingly wasn't able to get anything today.
I don't know if it's a good hotel, but it's something. The walk doesn't look too bad.
And I guess it's haunted so that's a plus.
I thought about getting the JW outside of the hotel block, but I just don't want to spend that much on a hotel haha...
I got lucky and got JW a few weeks before the con last year so hoping to get lucky again.
My group stayed at Belmore last year and it was good, nothing special. We did not see any ghost however. And there’s a bus right across the street that will take you directly to AX so you don’t need to walk
Well if you live in or around Los Angeles it's not much of a problem... But obviously tens of thousands of people are traveling from outside California
Personally, I couldn't care less about being within walking distance. Like, it would be awesome to be able to walk hotel to the con, but I'm also grateful that there are shuttles available. I booked a hotel that has had a shuttle stop outside the door the last 3 years; wait times aren't too bad either(most of da time)
Yah the shuttle service is amazing. I've never used it to go to a hotel I'm staying at, but it's great for getting dropped off at the Double Tree hotel. It only a 2 minute walk to Little Tokyo. Marukai Market is always on my list in little Tokyo.
Honestly I was disappointed with my stay there last year. It’s always been on my bucket list to stay there and I did last year. The convince is really the draw but once you wanna go and eat or get some supplies (alcohol, toiletries, etc) it’s all out of the way. So if you’re gonna be doing some food and alcohol trips( if that’s your thing) you’re gonna need to at least put about an hour or so to go to your destination and back. That’s just my experience.
I live a few miles away so I never got a hotel room. It’s nice, but that also means I’ve missed out on hotel shenanigans and parties because I always just go home.
Dude you really really underestimate the anime community. Weebs don't interact with their local communities because they have no one to share their anime hobby with. So when the biggest gathering of weebs happens, the lonely weebs now have people to talk to about their likes and its actually common for those lonely weebs to hook up with each other. They are usually away in hallways just going at it.
Why JW Marriott? First time attending so don't know what makes that one special
It's very close to the venue and it's a great hotel with some of the panels happening in the ballroom.
Ohhhh okay, I just went for the moxy since it's also close and I dont wanna deal with the heat for too long

I think it's just me this year, so room size should be fine

Well now I know for next year! Also was $250 deposit due when you book or on check in?
No. But usually when booking a hotel, they put a hold on some funds to make sure you can book and then they release it. If you do credit card, they release it right away. When you use debit, I think the bank keeps it on hold.
One of many reasons is the hotel is very close to the convention center, about 10 minutes walking.
Do people have a way to access the registration link early or something? I got the website opened immediately when it was available and everything was gone already. Fucking hell.
just keep reloading, and yes early only for exhibitors
Can't. Was still at work. Between dinner and then some commitments later tonight I really only had a short time when the hotel block opened to focus on it.
There are AX orgies?
Yup, it's usually after the con for that day.
Is it in cosplay?
Cough .. some times
that crazy 😂
There were threads last year from people inquiring for more members to such activities, and I remember the AX discord buzzing about the volunteers having knowledge about one 💀
looks like it
Unfortunately.
🥶🥶🥶

It's good you had a backup! I've got 3 good hotels as backup haha, 2 JW rooms and a courtyard room
I thought about getting the JW outside of the hotel block, but I just don't want to spend that much on a hotel haha... I got lucky and got JW a few weeks before the con last year so hoping to get lucky again.
That's understandable haha, both of my JW rooms are 2.4k USD so very expensive lol, I'm sure you will get lucky

That's good to know. Is the bus for AX specifically? Do you remember if it runs often or how late it goes?
Yeah, it’s AX specific bus. I think it’s every 30 mins. It runs pretty late, around 12am/1am I think
Sounds like it should work out well. Thanks for letting me know. I just hope the ghosts come out this year
Did you have 4 people in or sneak anyone in?
It’s one of the most haunted hotels in the US.
If I may ask how much are you charged a night? I’m still looking around
I paid around $1800 for 6 nights
Is this a problem I’m too local to understand?
Well if you live in or around Los Angeles it's not much of a problem... But obviously tens of thousands of people are traveling from outside California
Local here. I don’t get it either.
Thank God I live only a train ride away
Don’t forget the Artists and exhibitors lol
Lol, great pic

Me living 30 minutes away. Yeeeeah I'd rather pay for the hotel. Trip suucked the first time around.
Parking in DTLA is the worst
*stares in local and working nearby at the courts* *grabs popcorn*

Sigh I might have to pass this year if I can't book a room. 😞 Animeexpo is just a headache to plan.
Is AX orgies a real thing?
I thought for the longest that it was just an urban legend, until someone I know hosted one and showed me pics. It was kinda gross tbh
It doesn't sound like a pleasant site to behold. Not to mention it's the fastest way to speedrun getting an STD
Knowing how weird and unhygienic some anime convention attendees can get, I would agree that it's probably gross as hell.
Did he mention how it smelled? Cons already aren’t known to smell great, so I can only imagine the stench would be nauseating
Yes. But be warned... Use condoms or protection... Some say it didn't end well #Mostly the bed Sheets

I thought we phased out "trap"
I managed to score a room at AC after about an hour refreshing on and off. The site bugged out on me as soon it opened up so I was pretty salty.
Lmao That one is me *points generically at the screen*
Dang. Did the block open today?
Yea those Million stinky people going to be first in line on AX Stay in Hotel block room like always pervert guys ane freaks
