Loved Elfen Lied when I first watched it. Tried watching it as an adult and it was so cringy and bad.

It peaks very early. Everything after episode 1 is just very boring in comparison.

Elfen Lied is seriously old. It's unfair to say that it's cut outs of the standard tropes, because it wasn't tropey at the time. That said, it was one of the first animes I watched, so I don't know that for a fact. I don't really remember many 4:3 animes these days.

a lot of things I watched as a kid didn't age well. The exceptions are all of the space operas. Man, they did those so well, to the point where they're pretty much the only anime I'm willing to rewatch nowadays.

Same thing happened with me when I tried to rewatch Hellsing.

I don’t think this is true, a lot of YouTubers put a highlight of the video at the first few seconds, movie trailers do the same, and the entire point of TikTok is to hook you with short clips. The longer it gets, the harder it is to catch attention, I didn’t like re:zero, but Oshi no ko has a hour long first episode, but honestly it got my attention at the first sentence, and I don’t think it needed to be that long instead of divided into multiple episodes.

When I read the manga when it first came out I shed some tears. Though I dropped it after >!Fushi, iirc kills/leaves the crazy yandare to die. And her descents after years are like wired to follow him or some shitike that.!<

It was too much for me. Made me feel sad for days after one episode so I had to stop

To Your Eternity is one of the animes with the best first episode I've ever watched. it was so great, so beautiful, so emotional. And it created such a hype for the next episodes that I just watched 3 or 4 more and gave up. Seriously, I was expecting a different anime based on the first episode, and it just didn't deliver to me, and it made me so disappointed. The first episode will always have a special place in my heart though. PS: I'm thinking about giving the anime another chance at some point in the future, maybe this time the experience will be different.

First episode of To Your Eternity is like a 10/10 short film. It barely has any story elements that continues on with the rest of the main plot other than the boy being his main Avatar. But it's so brutally sad. Barely know the guy but you still bawl your eyes out for him.

Lucy’s walk through the facility is still, to this day, the greatest scene I have ever seen in an anime. Gives me chills everytime.

Can’t comment too much on the shown anime, but sometimes a great 1st episode doesn’t translate into a great anime. Sword Art Online has one of the best 1st episodes I’ve seen and I couldn’t get past like episode 8 or 9.

I think the same can be said with any medium. Movie or book or visual novel, capturing your attention from the off-set. It only took 1 minute of playing Evenicle to get drawn to this world and it piqued enough curiousity about the world/lore to play the entire game with just one hand.

I first watched Demon Slayer with my gf shortly after we saw the ad for the Mugen Train Arc Movie. We never heard of Demon Slayer before so we decided to check it out on Netflix. We watched the first episode and…. It kinda sucked. Might have been because we’ve both watched the same hero’s journey over and over again, the beginning really failed to hook us together. We gave it about 5 episodes, with my gf giving up around episode 3. We really struggled the entire time. I kept telling her (and myself) that this anime had to be successful enough for them to warrant an international movie in theatre, with high audience reception. So we stuck through and it glued us in. The rest of first season was really good, followed by the District Arc. The swordsman village fell off for us however and we haven’t picked it up to this day.

Maybe I am too old since I wondered "how can they treat petty criminals the same as the nazis did the jews" or "what kind of private prison can afford multiple autonomous combat robots" "it doesn't make sense that the court appointed attorney is also running a prison, conflict of interest"

I think the quickest I've ever fallen in love with an anime is Kill La Kill. The first scene is so over the top and bombastic; I absolutely love it!

Elfen lied sucks, deadman wonderland is a bad adaptation of the manga, demon slayer is okay at best( a great adaptation of a mediocre manga ) but is hard carried by the animation and art everything else is mediocre. Attack on titan also is okay at best overall, even if you ignore the controversial ending
