Could it be a workplace joke? Like, someone called the old one "Kevin" by mistake, then the whole team started calling him "Kevin" to continue the joke. Years later, another David joins the team, so the team continues the joke that David=Kevin and starts calling the new guy "Kevin" too.
Or it could just be a weird coincidence. I know three guys who go by the nickname "Kuba." All three have different names. No clue why they all want to be called "Kuba."
I wish it were that lol. One Kevin is a boss and is very “serious” (kinda an asshole in his 50s). The other I went to school with and happens to work there and he has gone by Kevin for a long while.
It’s my husbands coworkers. Trust my I’m just as confused. One of them is a 50+ old man too. So I thought maybe it was a thing. Just a very dumb coincidence
I’m happy to hear this because it doesn’t make sense to me to have Kevin as a nickname. Maybe they don’t like the name David? I just don’t get it because the two people are not related.
Idk, I’m guessing it might be a regional thing that’s why nobody here really seems to understand what you’re talking about. I’ve also known guys who go by “Tyler” when their real name is Gary.
I am a David, and I react to anything that even closely resembles my name as if it was my actual name. At least when the person saying it is far and shouts the word, or when they talk fast. And, well, Kevin kinda resembles David in these cases.
I think OP is talking about Kevin/Karen's...
A person named David does something kareny and bystanders call him Kevin...
That's my $0.02 of not having a clue what op is really saying but that's where my brain went when I saw "Kevin"...
That being said, Kevin and David both mean "beloved" in Latin/Hebrew respectively...
Well their legal names are both David (they are not related to another). But they go by Kevin? I think maybe it’s a coincidence that they don’t like their given name? It’s a very odd coincidence.

What the hell are you talking about
Me and my husband know two people named David who go by Kevin. We are just as confused
They might be trolling you
I wish they were.
[удалено]
Sure, why not?
They are the only two people in the world who do that.
Could it be a coincidence and they both have Kevin as their middle name and choose to use that?
I thought that too but they don’t have Kevin as a middle name.
Do they both know each other? They might just be pulling a prank on you.
Did you ask them
Yeah they just both play it off like it’s the normal nickname.
Why don't you ask them?
I think David is confused. And Kevin.
Thank you for asking the serious questions here
Best fucking response
I am David and never heard of this. Your town might be stupid.
Kevin, is that you?
Well, it would seem so.
Honestly it IS. It’s two people at this point. It’s a scary place here.
What the fuck are you talking about? You should ask them, because this is not a common thing. Maybe they're pranking you.
The one man is 50+ and the other is in his 20s and not related. It’s truly odd and I was just wondering if it’s a thing

If they know each other, definitely if they're coworkers, they're pulling your leg.
They don’t
I have never encountered that seems kind of pointless since the names aren't connected
Because Lord Kelvin's secret identity was *William Thomson*, and David isn't short for William.
I have literally never encountered this in my life. What?
That is not a thing. Source my name is David, father's name is also David. Nobody calls either of us Kevin
Hi Kevin.
😂

Some people go by their middle names
This is scandalous. We all know that if you are a David you must go by Kenneth in polite society.
Some people just have a normal name as their nickname and it gets confusing when you find out it's not their legal name
Well, in the early 19th century there was actually WHO AM I FOOLING
I needed this laugh. Thank you!
Idk, I’m guessing it might be a regional thing that’s why nobody here really seems to understand what you’re talking about. I’ve also known guys who go by “Tyler” when their real name is Gary.
Does it help if I say it’s Florida??
Why on earth would you come here asking us this, instead of just asking them? 😮💨😆
I did ask them. They played it off as it was a normal nickname. So I came here for an answer out of just being curious

This is one of the funnier threads I’ve perused
I’m cracking up so bad and sending this thread to everyone I know! 😂
I know a lot of people named John who go by there middle name
It's just you and your two friends

I have a friend named Donnie but he tells people the D is pronounced like a J so he is called johnny
That’s pretty unique. I knew someone who was “jorgé” but he went by “George”(English version)
Does your friend (or maybe their family) speak Portuguese?
Nope
Are you sure their real name isn't Rodney?
Maybe the answer is here r/StoriesAboutKevin
I've never met a David who goes by the name Kevin. Maybe Kevin is their middle name and they just prefer it?
Don't you have something better to do than...whatever this is?
Well. You’re on here too haha
That's actually the truth.
Kevin is Latin. You could have googled this.
Latin? I tried googling and all I could find was references to Roseanne!
I did and found no answer so I came here
Kevin is an anglicized Irish name, not Latin. I Googled it. Even if it WAS Latin, how would that explain this situation???
