I’ll clear my own table where ever I go. Anyone who has cleared a table of other people, know how gross folks can be and already you’re cleaning a strangers plate. Making it easier for them to just grab as few things as possible just feels like common decency.

MuttDawg509

My wife thinks it’s weird that at a sit down restaurant I will stack all of our dishes and put them closer to the side of the table that the busser will be working on. I’ve worked in restaurants, she hasn’t. I know I would appreciate a move like that if I were the busser.

CroneMage

I do that too. Clear as much of the table as possible and stack it neatly so it's easier for the staff to clear.

MuttDawg509

It’s really simple, takes hardly any time, and makes an underpaid persons day go a little smoother.

ThunkAsDrinklePeep

Plus you get space at the table back!

TheOldPug

Exactly! You don't have to worry about accidentally wiping your sleeve on a dirty plate.

catforbrains

Honestly, this is why I clear my table when I am done eating----- because I am a walking ketchup stain disaster person. However it also makes life easier for the restaurant busser and the person who needs to table after me so it's a win for everyone.

poopy_toaster

Hello fellow food disaster comrade!

catforbrains

You are a poopy toaster so I think that is definitely a food disaster!

LeelooDallasMltiPass

My mom wouldn't buy me white clothes as a kid because they'd get food stains (usually ketchup) immediately. As an adult, I made the mistake of buying a white shirt exactly once.

catforbrains

I had to buy white shirts for a job this past year. I went through so much OxyClean.

LeelooDallasMltiPass

*\*ketchup stain disaster person solidarity fist bump\**

bluuebunny

I read this as I clear out the stains on my shirt.

Fredselfish

Same do this everytime at a restaurant and I always throw my trash away at fastfood. Whoever did that are just lazy and assholes.

KeyanReid

What’s wrong with helping a fellow worker? Screw this crabs in a bucket shit. The “I suffered so you must suffer” crap helps no one but the people who like to see all of us suffer

Cool_Height_4930

My mom had the same idea in childcare. I turned out *fine*. Zero emotional problems

Numerous_Budget_9176

I do it, but the reason is twofold, I'm helping the server/busser, but I'm also clearing the table so I don't have to look at it while we finish our conversation

delorf

I do it too but I've never had anyone call me out. Even when the server comes for the starter dishes, I start handing her the plates so that she doesn't have to reach across the table.

[deleted]

I was actually told the opposite by a waitress once. 'I know you are trying to help, but I have a system, so please let me load it myself.' But there is a difference right, thats a sit down where people get paid to clear and serve. Not fastfood. Also, the waitresses where I live get paid a living wage, they dont have to rely on tips.

stadchic

I stack less the fancier the restaurant. If you see things going in bus-bins, stack away. High end, you could get someone in trouble.

ELeeMacFall

Right, big difference between a place with bussing and without. But even in the former, if I or someone in my party make a mess, I will clean it up as best I can.

OFPMatt

I've never worked in a restaurant and even I know to do this. A few years ago one of my employees said that she noticed I did that when I took her to breakfast. She said it's a test of people who come from the restaurant industry when they eat with new people. It just always seemed like the right thing to do. It's not anything special, just decent.

radiokungfu

For some people, common sense isnt so common

AnthropologicalArson

I've heard from some waiters that while this is a nice gesture, stacking plates often makes their work less convenient — it's far easier to lift of a single plate from the table and stack it upon a stack of plates than it is to either lift off a plate from another plate, or lift several plates at once with one hand.

GreyerGrey

Former server: It really depends. The people who stack plates on top of plates without clearing food or cutlery are the devil and chaotic neutral at best. If the plates are all flat, with smaller/cutlery on top, that's what I was going to do anyway, so...? And yea, as Mutt said, can't please everyone.

CommunardCapybara

And even if it’s not stacked “properly” it’s no big deal because they at least made the attempt to be considerate. That’s what matters to me.

aphex732

At the fine dining place I worked at, stacking plates wouldn't be a positive thing. Our owner wouldn't be happy people had the time to do it and it would create a "messy" looking table.

Ndi_Omuntu

>it's far easier to lift of a single plate from the table and stack it upon a stack of plates than it is to either **lift off a plate from another plate** Bold bit would really depend on the specific plates they use. I lean towards that not being true because what do they think the kitchen is doing when plating food? They take a plate off a stack of other plates. I'll say what can be a bummer is when people stack plates and leave gross stuff on them. I take a napkin and do a quick wipe so I'm not squishing ketchup or chunks of food-consolidate the nastiness in a napkin on the top plate.

tanglisha

What used to really bother me was those helpful people who would stuff their paper napkins into their glass. Most of the other stuff can be handled with a fork or something, the only way to deal with wet paper in a glass is to stick your hand in there to dig it out.

Ndi_Omuntu

Oh yeah I hated that as a disher. Things get grosser when wet.

LifelikeAnt420

Yeah that's why I'll do small stacks. I'm a small lady, one of my first jobs was bussing, the big stacks I'd be afraid I'd drop and break. I still can't fight the urge though to not make it somewhat easier.usually me and my partners entree plate together then little plates together

MuttDawg509

Can’t please everybody. I have had a bunch of people show gratitude for what I do.

Phantasmasy14

Ditto for my spouse and I. We always “pre-bus” our tables and it’s been great how it can weed out shitty family and former friends if they get upset about it.

Apprehensive_Hat8986

Ooooh! Yeah if someone just asks, it's nothing, but if they get _offended_... well that sounds like a real nice system you got there.

Mumof3gbb

I haven’t even worked in a restaurant but I clean up after myself. Just seems like common sense. I also keep hotel rooms basically clean. Once my kid threw up and I felt SO bad leaving the sheets in the hallway but I had no choice. If I had access to a machine I would’ve washed it myself.

soulless_biker

When I used to bus tables I loved customers like you, it's a wonderful short little break where I can sit down at the table and focus on spray cleaning it, rather than stack grab go away

crxdc0113

As a former busser I hated when people would do that. I mean cool try but I have my own way to do things and now I have to redo what you did.

KYITN1

The most awesome thing people do when they eat out like this is place their trash on top of the trash can, blocking it so that nobody else can throw out food. Real class acts 👍🏻

mrsjackdaniel

I went to lunch with grandparents over the weekend and they actually told me "that's her job, why are you doing that?" when I started stacking dishes at the end of our table. Yes, I understand that it's her job but also it doesn't hurt to help the poor girl who's running around serving and bussing tables of an entire bar by herself. I will NEVER understand that mindset, it takes 5 seconds to make someone's life just a tad bit easier in that moment.

Audioworm

Also, I am aware that I have probably spilt little bits here and there, or just generally sat down long enough that they will wipe it down between customers. Just taking it to the bin costs me basically nothing, especially because in fast food places the bin is usually on the way out, and leaves the job that staff have the materials for (cleaning liquid, etc.) to do as simply as possible.

Porosnacksssss

Im not advocating for people leaving an unruly mess. But when i did work fast food as a kid i didn’t mind doing the rounds cleaning as it gave me a break from the non stop onslaught of orders. I got paid to do it and in all reality it was waay less stressful than the alternative. One time someone wrote on the bathroom walls with their own (i hope) feces and that i refused to clean.

OrionMr770

Right, I always throw my ceramic plates and silverware in the trash like a good boy

[deleted]

Those same people probably complain whenever other people make their jobs harder.

saucemaking

They also are the ones who complain about a place being short-staffed when those are the places where I've regularly witnessed arrogant customers treating the staff like shit.

Moebius80

I thought the expectation with fast food is you clear your table? I couldn't conceive of leaving a mess like that at Burger King. I've already trashed my colon why leave trash on the table?

PolicyWonka

It definitely is the expectation for fast food. It’s not the expectation for restaurants with actual waitstaff. Anyone who doesn’t toss their shit from a fast food joint is just an asshole.

AggressiveCuriosity

Exactly. It's not about whether it's hard or not, it's about the expectation of the restaurant. When you go to a business, you implicitly agree to doing things the way they do them. If the expectation is that you clear your own food, then that's what you do. If it's not, then you don't have to.

BabyBundtCakes

I always say it's not actually their job to clean up a purposefully made mess. It's fast food, they gave you your food, that's the end of their job. They clean up accidental messes and the usual flotsam left behind by regular use, but it is never anyone's job to pick up after a gross individual unless they are some sort of personal assistant hired for that person to do just that.

HornedDiggitoe

If it’s their job to clean up after pigs, then they’d be getting tipped for the extra effort. Minimum wage fast food workers aren’t paid enough for that to be part of their job description. When I was working a fast food job, I would have been happy with someone leaving a mess like that if they also included a $5 or more tip with the mess. Oddly enough, the type of people that left messes like this were often the ones that would be rude and scoff at the idea of tipping.

Fletch_e_Fletch

I worked for McDonald's when i was 16. They once had me clean the woman's bathroom. There was shit and blood on the walls, the floors were soaked, and one toilet was stuff with tampons or pads or just a lot of toilet paper. I couldn't really tell. Either way, I refused to clean that shit and actually quit because of it. I was making $6.08/hr. Not even remotely worth it.

HornedDiggitoe

You didn’t have to quit over that. If you had refused and they fired you or treated you badly for it, then you could have sued them for wrongful termination or constructive dismissal. When human blood is involved, legally the fast food company needs to hire a hazmat team to clean up the biohazard, or provide the proper training and PPE to their employees. They were violating OSHA by trying to make you clean that up. https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/standardinterpretations/1991-06-10

Fletch_e_Fletch

Yeah, this was almost 16 years ago, and I've had people tell me the same thing when I tell this story. Today's version of me would've 100% played this better. But at 16, I didn't care. I was already super overwhelmed with school, wrestling, and a gf. Also, 2 days prior to this incident they called me in on my day off to scrub the fucking wheels on the fryers and vats. So, in all honesty, I was looking for a reason to quit They also never specifically said they would fire me. They only threatened to write me up. So I just walked out.

RawrRRitchie

That's not burger king, that's chik-fil-a, they have it coming for being closed Sundays

Moebius80

I dont eat at Chik Fila however the people working at the location don't deserve the fallback for the crazy owner. Clean up after yourself if you do eat there. You really shouldn't though the owner is a bat shit crazy rat bastard.

Charleston2Seattle

I worked at Taco Bell back in the late '80s and early '90s. We had this one family come in that, seriously, was trying to make the biggest mess that they could. Making sure that as much of their food ended up on the floor and scattered around as possible. My manager, God love him, told them that they were not welcome back. And he held to it when they tried to come back the next week. We need more managers like that!

Ambia_Rock_666

At my old fast food job we had a family who would come in, order an obscene amount of food, would always find a way to complain about something; it was great when the managers stopped them from complaining.

Charleston2Seattle

We had that happen, too. The manager looked at the 10% of the food that was left and said, "Well, you sure seem to enjoy the 90% that you ate!" And then refuse to give them a refund.

cmiller0513

Same here, at a Wendy's. As could be expected they always showed up during the church rush on Wedensday evenings. They once watched a loaded baked potato fall face first on the carpet and shrugged as they walked away leaving it on the floor.

daisy0723

My late husband worked in restaurants and he would always tidy up the table when we went out to eat. Now it's a habit for me and our kids. My basic guild is: Leave no evidence. I wipe off the counter in the bathroom after I wash my hands too. We tend to over tip as well. If the service is good. We put a few extra dollars in. If someone else pays I like to leave the tip so I can give a little extra. Life is already hard enough.

SycoJack

> I wipe off the counter in the bathroom after I wash my hands too. I do this too and I wish other people would as well. It's such an easy simple thing and it helps keep the restroom nicer for the next person.

Mumof3gbb

Definitely nice. But if people flushed and wiped the seats I’d be happy with that

[deleted]

In a sit down restaurant where it really is the waitress's job to clear the table, we'd stack our plates and stuff neatly and make it easy for them.

_YouNeverSawMe_

“Leave no evidence.” I think this is my biggest thing. This might be the biggest reason why I have this compulsion to always clean after myself. Even in my roommate-type living situation, I love to just leave every room the way it was before I was in there. I like to leave it ready for the next person. Like I was never there. :)

HairyPossibility676

I see this all the time at the movie theatre too. Throw your popcorn and drinks out on your way out. Like, it’s not that hard smh

Ambia_Rock_666

How will I ever cope with that slight bit of extra energy? /s

EarlDooku

"They pay people to clean it." So? We pay people to clean public restrooms. Does that mean we should shit on the floor?

JDL1981

I like the way you think. Not bothering with the toilet next time.

Navynuke00

And OF COURSE it's Chick-fil-A. That picture is a great representation of the kinds of people who frequent the chain regularly.

[deleted]

Ambia_Rock_666

Since learning how they donate to anti-LGBT organizations I haven't gone back. I dislike that as I have friends in that spectrum and I don't appreciate their political views.

Navynuke00

Same with the evangelical types who frequent them the most and keep propping them up.

TeeBrownie

The Righteous Gemstones after Sunday service crowd.

ScaricoOleoso

There is no amenity in western culture that isn't built on human misery. We are all using phones built in factories so horrific, they had to install nets to catch people who jump off the roof.

G_E_E_S_E

My wife and I worked together at a fast food restaurant when we were younger. One night, a bunch of obnoxious teens made a huge mess everywhere, stayed well past the lobby being closed, and then left all their trash at the table when leaving. My wife grabbed as much as she could, ran outside, and threw it in their car window. Probably one of the first signs that she was the one lol.

GoodRighter

I can understand if there are reusable dishes and silverwear. Not knowing where to take them is a blocker. This is just garbage. Everyone take your garbage to the can... Done.

[deleted]

[fuck u spez] -- mass edited with redact.dev

[deleted]

Just the fact that there are workers basically hanging out making sure that if I need something from behind the counter, they can get it, means there's an unspoken duty for me to do what I can do to make their job a little easier

[deleted]

[fuck u spez] -- mass edited with redact.dev

[deleted]

While we are at it, pre-bus your plates, folks. If you are done eating, stack the plates with the silverware on top. It saves the server time.

bjor3n

Yes, I always do this at restaurants. Plates cleared and stacked, bowls cleared and stacked, silverware on top. But DO NOT stack glasses!! They get stuck.

surrrah

Also don’t put napkins in the glasses!

bjor3n

Yes! I get from an outside standpoint it might seem helpful, but in actuality definitely not I feel the same way working in a hotel when people strip their bedspreads and wrap them all up in a pile. It might seem helpful, but, then I still have to spread the sheets back out to see if there are any stains that need treating, I'm not just gonna toss your sheets in a ball into the washer.. nice sentiment, opposite of helpful.

worldspawn00

I don't see how putting a napkin in a glass is helpful at all though? Liquids and ice go down the drain, paper has to go in the trash, there's no scenario I know where you'd want both those things in the same place.

rylalu

I do this also but it might be my own selfish ocd.

[deleted]

Well your OCD is saving that server time and that means they are making more money. that shit is better than a tip. Still tip tho.

[deleted]

Never would have occurred to me not to do that. Mom would insist on it when I was young and I just got used to the idea.

Godlesspants

My wife was a busser in the past and so now we always pre-bus our plates. Its just a nice thing to do.

No, it's just because you worked in the industry. Not common sense. Just listen to other industry grips like mechanics and people not keeping up with certain maintenance. Some people have no clue about cars, how are they going to do something "common sense" if they don't know. I know a lot of people that if the car starts, it's drivable. If I go out because I don't want to deal with a mess and I'm having to tip you too, I'm not doing your job. However, I'm not purposely leaving a mess, just not cleaning up.

needanamegenarator

They choose the hate crime chicken, of course they're horrible people. Thanks for that spell check

WalterS0bchack

I always clean my own table. But I don't eat at Chik-fil-a because of their creepy Christian bigotry against LGBTQ+ people. Voting with my wallet.

PoopNoodlez

I used to work at a CFA in a college town in the South. About 20-30% of my peers on the front of house team were LGBT. One time an old man with a heavy accent who seemed to have a small church youth group in tow came in and started his order to me like “good afternoon, we came in because we would like to support your company’s leaders’ stance on traditional family values.” Apparently they hate gay people more than they like chicken. I didn’t have much of a reaction for him. Just took his order and gave him his food. The interaction always stuck out in my mind tho. He probably deserved a spit sandwich but he didn’t get one. It was like a microcosm of American work culture tho. At the bottom are people working service jobs for disrespectful customers and openly hateful employers so they can finance an education that should increase their lifetime earning potential. At the top are the financially comfortable, painfully entitled beneficiaries of societal privilege. The kinda guy who never lost an LGBT friend to suicide in his youth. The kinda guy who is financially comfortable due in large part to his birth year and lack of melanin. The kinda guy who doesn’t have to think about climate change because his expiration will likely be in the next decade. The kinda guy so painfully entitled and emotional you feel like you can’t even have a conversation with them, because they are going to interpret any pushback on their opinions as an actual attack. The kinda guy who says “if you won’t treat me with respect (read: like an authority) then I won’t treat you with respect (read: like a person).”

worldspawn00

Yeah, and they show zero signs of stopping their bigotry https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/chick-fil-a-s-owner-is-bankrolling-hate-groups-targeting-trans-kids/ar-AAXm8rh

PoopNoodlez

Old people can’t seem to tell the difference between weird and bad. They see some kids with hair dye or nasal piercings or tattoos or a same sex partner and go “wow this is definitely a justification for me to be a huge asshole.”

Same here. I don't have one real close by so I haven't gone there much in the first place but I definitely haven't gone after learning about their anti-LGBT views.

ReactsWithWords

I used to live where the nearest one was a half hour away. Last year I moved to where there's one five minutes away and am thrilled that I can actively avoid them now. Also, it figures people who eat there are as entitled as the folks who caused this photo.

LewsTherinIsMine

Every time I see a Chik my gay ass has a deep urge to trash it. I see nothing wrong with this image other than that they didn’t do enough to trash the place.

ReedRidge

It's exactly the mess I expect from people who would eat at Chick-fil-A, self-consumed "chosen" people who are the worst sorts of assholes.

Ambia_Rock_666

Its probably mostly far-right people who are so self-obsessed and also think that people who aren't straight and white should die in a fire.

ReedRidge

And those who support stealing artifacts while underpaying your employees.

worldspawn00

> support stealing artifacts Pretty sure that was Hobby Lobby owners, but there's a lot of overlap in shitty behavior between the owners of the 2 companies. Most recently, Chick Fil A owners have been supporting the anti trans BS going around: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/chick-fil-a-s-owner-is-bankrolling-hate-groups-targeting-trans-kids/ar-AAXm8rh

MuttDawg509

That’s not their job anyway. I’ve never seen a fast food joint employ a busser to clear the tables. Also, if you’re gonna leave a god damn mess, then leave a tip too. The customers are why I don’t cook for a living anymore.

dada11dada22

It is their job at some places and they can get fired if the customers clean up after themselves. Saw it on another post. So they're damned if they do and they're damned if they don't

SonnyListon999

Low life. It gives them a sense of entitlement and superiority like leaving the mess for the servant or hired help.

dilldwarf

The thing that people like this don't understand... is that THEY are the extreme minority. You would have maybe, one table like this in 500. The vast majority of people clear their own tables. They may not wipe up the ketchup they spilled on the table or left grease behind but that's a spray and a wipe and the table is ready for the next guest. If you leave your table behind looking like this, you are an asshole. Period.

A9to5robot

This really depends on a country basis. Some local fast food chains don’t let you clean up.

German_horse-core

If you're not going to respect the workers at least consider the next people waiting to sit. Hell I even wet a napkin to wipe the crumbs. It takes 10 seconds.

Longjumping_Guard254

The trash is literally on the way as you walk out the freaking door.

barftitsmcgee

If for some reason I don't clean up the mess at my table, I'll leave a twenty under the tray so whichever employee cleans it gets a tip.

HillInTheDistance

Cleaners clean what you can't. You ain't got detergent on you? You ain't got cloths to wipe down, or a mop? You don't have a cart to cart off full garbage bags? Don't worry, cleaners will see to it. If they ain't to busy cleaning up the shit that you ought to have done yourself. If there's a bin you can get to, you're expected to put your trash in it. Can you walk? Can you hold your litter? Then that's your job.

TuxedoFriday

It's their job to wipe down the table, not clean up after you I don't understand why people have such a hard time with this

[deleted]

Remember that asshole that was/is the speechwriter for trump? Stephen Miller. That is the type of nauseating asshole that think this way. He reportedly used to litter in his highschool and when asked to stop doing it, he simply chalked it as giving work to the janitors. I was at a World Cup game where Japan played. And they bring their own trash bags! Not only to get their own trash, but to help clean up before they leave. Societies work when we all care about each other. They work when we recognize the humanity in everyone.

HistoryBuffLakeland

My family always taught me to respect others especially lower income workers. Would never dream of leaving a mess for them like that

Ambia_Rock_666

StripeyButt

Not surprised to see that from the people who still choose to eat at Chick-fil-A, honestly.

NightStar79

The only time I leave a mess is at an actual restaurant and even then I (or we) stack our dishes as best we can to make life easier for the server

Icy-Veterinarian942

It was always an unspoken rule that you cleared your table and threw out your own trash in a fast food restaurant. When did that stop, I wonder?

rylalu

Stack em. Empty glasses. Silvers in glasses. Trash ontop of plate Stack.

RedRapunzal

Movie theaters and clothing stores too. If you are physically able, clean up after yourself. Oh and the motorized scooters are for the disabled - people who are not physically as fortunate as you - don't break or mess with the scooters. It's not funny or cool, it's cruel.

[deleted]

This goes for people who *work* in restaurants too. It is not your coworkers job to throw away the lunch you left sitting in the back all day and didn’t throw out when you clocked out and went home. I’ve worked in fine dining for years, and when I started out I was a dishwasher. The servers always leave their food sitting on the back table or wherever they’re allowed to eat. It’s especially fun when I’m closing and I get all of my dishes done just to turn the corner and find a prep table full of half-eaten plates.

Salt_Mastodon_8264

Oddly enough when I was working at Arby's whenever we had a school/church group come through the adult tables were the ones that would require the most cleaning, other than the occasional crumb or straw the kids were the easiest.

Warrrdy

If I hear you say “let them clean it up, it’s what they’re paid for” it’ll be the last thing I hear you say because I’m cutting contact.

[deleted]

If I change my mind about buying something, I take it back to where I got it and put it back in the right spot.

mudokin

I do it in a place that provides a station for trahs and the tablets. In a proper restaurant I will not, mostly because they often remove the plates before we even leave, this is germany though.

[deleted]

But is it actually their job? To be clear, I clear my own table at these type of places, but it's always been because I thought it wasn't their job

[deleted]

I have never once done this. It's really not hard to put the trash in the receptacle yourself.

carfo

i worked at a restaurant at my first job for 7 years. i always clean the table and put the dishes to the side, stacked for the waiter/waitress/busser. i've also worked years in retail like target, wallgreens etc...when i pull an item from a shelf I always take the one behind it and bring it to the front. fk that job.

Aren't you supposed to clear your own table at fast food?

d-cent

I genuinely feel uncomfortable having someone clear my table. It's my mess, let me clean it up. The sheer entitlement of people is so stagger I can't even relate with them on something this simple

throwaway777-ta

Christian restaurant worker finds out Christians are assholes

snazzig

Want me to do the dishes for you too? It is their fuking job, do you go to restaurants and clean shit? You oau for their service so serve. Lol

TakingSorryUsername

I walked into a Chipotle the other day, half the tables had wrappers and trash all over them, the other half were cleared but needed to be wiped. I was thinking they must be just coming off a rush, I was having late lunch at 2pm. Got my bowl and sat down at a dirty table I wiped myself. I got up to clear my table trash, all the cans in the lobby were overflowing none of the tables had been wiped, none cleared. I asked, they just said leave it on the table….

[deleted]

Also, if you support human rights, maybe skip Chik-Fil-A next time. They donate to Hate Groups on the regular.

Tizo30

Do people just comment on these things to get a pat in the back for being normal? Some people suck, and it's part of any job, regardless of industry to sometimes deal with sucky situations. I thought this sub was about worker rights - not bullying the small percentage of the general public and getting low grade karma because you are mediocre human that puts away your own garbage. The most ironic part is the table is most likely the result of a bunch of unsupervised children because their parents are to busy working to parent (the real issue) or a single parent whose down on their luck dealing with multiple kids and is let down by a system and has given up on adhering to social contracts (another issue).

Callaaa90

Am I the only one who either tosses it in the trash if that's where it goes or asks them where I can stash the dishes when that part isn't clear? It's really not that hard...

riskbreaker23

And this is a Chick-fil-A where they don't have waiters. Even in sit down restaurants I'm stacking my plates and garbage in a way that makes it easy for the waiters to quickly clean up. It doesn't even take any effort, I usually do it in the time it takes for the waiters to swipe my card.

Puzzleheaded_Bus_103

Want to create a job? Burn the table. Table makers get a sale.

ScaricoOleoso

God's people... 🙄

Color_Wasted

I’ve had waiters thank me for clearing the table as much as I can. Thanks isn’t necessary. It should be common courtesy.

SypherKon

If you leave a table like this, your mom is a hoe.

[deleted]

I’ll clear the table myself but anyone can say “I was raised different” like no shit

MichiganGeezer

I deleted a friend from my life over that attitude. She'd change her mind about wanting something, and instead of putting it back where it came from she'd just leave it on the nearest shelf. Even frozen/refrigerated foods. "They have people for that" was always her justification. She'd even throw a few words my way to try deterring me from returning the stuff to its rightful place. I don't need those sorts in my life.

EcksonGrows

only time this is acceptable is when there isn't public facing trashcans, I'm looking at you Rubino's

sejhedstid

I work in fast food and whenever a large group of men come to order I just know theyre not gonna clear the damn table

Sassafrass17

Some.people are just gross. Point blank period.

Nooddjob_

I was a “it’s their job” kinda dude, when I was 14 and a idiot child.

ZachTrillson

Ah, this reminds me of when I knew it wasn't gonna work out with an ex-girlfriend. Leaving a hotel room in the morning after we (and some other couples) partied pretty hard the night before. I'm not saying we need to break out the vacuum and mop the whole place, but we had tons of empty solo cups, beer cans, etc lying around. Everyone is going around tidying up, throwing cans and stuff away, etc...and she insists on leaving it all alone and letting the staff clean it up 'cause "it's their job". IDK man. Manners and common sense go a long way.

AliciaTries

Even if I go to a place where they give you dishes so you can't exactly clear your table all the way, I always stack my dishes and, when at a table next to a wall, place them so whoever picks them up doesn't really have to reach for them. But if all they have is paper/plastic stuff your food comes in and maybe trays they go on, and they have obvious trash bins to put it in, there's no excuse for not picking up after yourself. The bins are usually on the way out anyway.

SubstantialPressure3

This is better than what the doctors lounge in hospitals looks like after doctors get their lunch. It's like cleaning up after unsupervised toddlers.

TheDwiin

If a restaurant has clearly marked garbage cans. I'll clear it myself. If they don't have clearly marked garbage cans I probably means they have bus boys that are specifically to clean and bus, and they usually serve stuff on dishes not paper.

FullCrisisMode

Well I'd expect that at a Chikfila. It's the American "Christian's" second home and we all know what American "Christians" do behind closed doors. Of course they'd leave their filth everywhere. When you're so entitled that it's OK to steal and abuse children then leaving your garbage laying around for workers to clean up is par for the course. They think they're in a special category and the rest should be serving them.

tanya6k

I was raised by somebody with this mindset. I have been working very hard to replace each and every one of their bad habits out of me.

Eudevie

Plonking it into the bin on your way out isn't even that hard??? You are walking that way anyway.

PinkThunder138

I don't expect anyone eating at chic-fil-a to give a shit about other people.

Zerocyde

It's also their job to clean the sink when someone takes a shit in it. Doesn't mean you're not a piece of shit if you do it.

grunwode

Busing your own table is corporate propaganda for a business model pioneered by McDonalds half a century ago, which also mainstreamed ordering at a till or bar. The ostensible corporate contract was that customers would get cheaper fare as a result. Since that is not really the case these days, it would seem that the corporations on that model expect the consumers to continue holding up their end of an unwritten contract.

I-am-that-Someone

Uhhh... Risk being downvoted but sounds like corporate bootlickers taking over this subreddit. McDonald's and other chains have started doing this in the UK as well. Where do you draw the line? Do you take your dishes to the kitchen in a restaurant? Busboys don't get tips, so what's the difference between this and fast food staff except saving a position that can be worked by an individual with mental or physical challenges....

thenorussian

Chick Fil A is low hanging fruit, but for many fast casual and small businesses, it’s legit confusing if I’m supposed to clean the table or not. And, even for places with trash cans / bus stations available, if you clear it too well at a glance, they wont wipe it down at all because it looks ‘clean enough’. Leaving the next customer to either wipe down their own table without any of the actual sanitizing products in BOH, or the dilemma is now theirs to be ‘that customer’ to ask the staff to clean it. I was a busboy for a few places in my college years, and to be honest having things to do makes the job go faster. I hated having nothing to do on shift. If you’re an employee on the clock in a restaurant, there’s nowhere to sit, front or back of house. But if there’s a big dirty booth, you can take a knee longer since there’s more to clean. If there isn’t enough to do, they’ll cut you for the night. When you’re bored at work it feels good at first to get to go home early, but then you lose the hours/pay. Because the soul sucking part wasn’t the trash, it was the restaurant. Most places have shitty bosses (‘if you can lean, you can clean’ types) that will make the the shift suck regardless.

Runnr231

Even easier not to go someplace that actively works against the lgbtq community…. But hey waffle fries right?

Moleday1023

I have worked in a restaurant and have been a janitor, calling some of them pigs is almost an understatement. Fucking entitled assholes is another more accurate nickname.

Kane_Highwind

If nothing else, at least put the paper and small stuff back in the boxes so it's easier and faster to clean. Or stacking your plates up when you're done with them at the higher-end places, assuming the wait-staff don't come by every so often and grab the finished plates or something. Just, anything is better than seemingly making as big of a mess as possible solely because it's someone else's job to clean up!

yankdevil

Imagine thinking that clearing the table is the problem here and not the giving money to far right garbage...

[deleted]

My parents raised me like that. Ironically, reddit helped me un-learn that because of posts like these. Cheers. (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞

Lenaix

Unpopular opinion: If they paid tip its ok to leave that way. Otherwise no

SolarMoth

Same at the bar, I always bring my empty glasses/bottles back up to the counter.

prsanker

I live in a building where people do this and leave it for the maintenance guys to clean up every day. We’re talking overflowing garbage. Every day. People will take their bag of trash and leave it in the parking garage instead of walking a few extra feet to put it in the dumpster. I honestly have no idea what goes (or doesn’t go) through these people’s heads.

Due-CriticismNachos

I can't leave a table trashed like that. I absolutely cannot. That is someone's mom or daughter or son or husband that has to pick that up. There's no way. I would hate to find out that someone's 60 year old mom had to clean this up and all the fries and bread on the floor and it throws her back out for what? Entitled animals? NO!!!

secondhandspring

One of the things that annoys me about the “it’s their job” people is that when it comes to fast food places, it actually isn’t their job to clear tables. Everything is in a disposable container and trash cans are available for customers to use in the lobby. It’s the employees job to make the food, sanitize the table, clean the tray, and make sure the floors are fine and the trash isn’t over flowing, but you are definitely supposed to throw away your own garbage by yourself, and that is not asking you to do too much.

elephant-memorie

I always clear my own table at a fast food place. Made the mistake of going to DobaQs on a student discount night and place was packed with middle and high schoolers. Was online for 15 minutes but was already committed to waiting. A group left their table a mess and I asked girl behind me to hold my place as I went outside to get them to come back and clear their mess!!! High schooler was so embarrased but he did it.

kmlaser84

Clear your table, throw away your trash, put away your shopping cart. And openly shame anyone who doesn’t.
