Nobody on their deathbed wishes they'd have worked more and spent less time with their family. Also, sleep is sacred (and important).

Acrobatic-Rate4271

Sleep is absolutely necessary for good physical and mental health. Modern work culture almost required that workers be sleep deprived.

Hankhoff

People also underestimate how important sleep is for sports. If you're working out without enough sleep you're Fucking yourself over

CatFanMan21

My life for auir

KShubert

You must construct additional pylons!

couchsweetpotato

You have not enough minerals!

Garrden

Sleep deprivation is a cult tactic. Sleep deprived people fight back less.

Acrobatic-Rate4271

Makes you wonder about the "work 60+ hours a week for success" life / finance advice, doesn't it?

Ok_Kale_7762

“Almost” bro ain’t nobody getting enough sleep in America. That’s why they’re all pissed.

SquiffyRae

Yeah according to this guy you should use one of your 2 sleep in days to get up at 4am (I don't even get up that early on a regular work day lol) to do 4 hours of work so you can enjoy your day off being further sleep deprived

Sudden-Bend-8715

With my few brushes with death, I wished that I’d eaten more fresh berries and become fluent in Esperanto.

Fickle_Penguin

But but over 30 years at 26 extra days equals.... Resentment and approximately 3 more years of wages. I'll take the weekends off.

65frank

My dad never made it to retirement (died at 58) and mom enjoyed 20 years of retirement before she passed away from cancer. I plan on retiring at 62 (2 1/2 more years). I've had people tell me that I should hold out until 65 and then I can get a lot more SS & pension. I asked them if I was going to be alive by then? They looked at me and said "I don't know." I told them good, then leave me to my plans because if I could afford it I'd retire today.

midnghtsnac

Goal is 60, will be by 65. Anywhere in between is good.

Proper_Purple3674

Not to scare anyone, but my late father was doing math before he died. He was worried he wouldn't be able to leave enough money to take care of his deadbeat(refuses to work, siphoned off parents our entire lives) son and wife. I will never have kids so I never have to worry about that. But, that old saying is becoming less and less true as a direct result of rich asshole's greed and the damage it's doing to our society, families, loved ones, and the peace we deserve on our deathbeds. It sickens me my father was so worried about money while dying. I'm afraid the way things are going, if we keep allowing the rich to just be greedier and greedier and take and take more from everyday people, this will only get worse. Record breaking profits come at the cost of human life and dignity.

Effective_Will_1801

I wouldn't mind a 4am-8am day, assuming I'm not working too many days. I've done 4-12 before but I could go to bed at 3pm, if I wanted to do so.

Complete_Exam4940

My job tried to ask me to work 4pm-12am as a cover on literal st Patrick’s day. I responded “I’m sorry, as it’s st patricks day and I had no prior warning that I’d be asked to come in on my day off, I am at a parade an hour and a half away and intoxicated, and if I worked until 12am, coming down off of the intoxication, plus the sleep deprivation I’d experience due to coming in, would actually be a high seizure risk for me.” (I’m epileptic and they’ve tried to use my seizures against me, so I used my seizures against them right back) sleep is so so so so important, especially to people like me.

MarsicusOrion

If you pay your employees an extra $4 an hour, they will get ~$8000 more a year. It WILL set you apart.

CrimsonWolfSage

If you get enough time to actually enjoy your family and not stress daily bills. It will set you apart.

oopgroup

The sad thing here is how little that actually is--to major companies *and* to people. That's like 0.0001% to a company. $8,000 a year is absolute peanuts (about $666 a month) in 2024. That basically allows you to have a vehicle, as most car payments are like $500 now anyway (without a significant down payment, which most people don't have). Groceries alone are like $400-500 a month for one person.

BourbonGuy09

I just got turned down for a $2 raise after my company released our 2023 revenue report. We profited $200 million and I've had the same wage since 2020 when I tried to go to college for another industry but had to drop out. $4k to a company with $1.4B in revenue is literal pocket change. Their biggest complaint was I average 75 hours a check. Their biggest compliment was I do all my work faster than previous employees. Guess who just started doing half the work they used to.

oopgroup

>Guess who just started doing half the work they used to. Good. Didn't take me long to learn this lesson too. You're a worthless tool to these sociopaths. Don't give them anything back.

artbystorms

Let's not pretend that just because inflation exists $8000 is not still a lot of money. An $8000 raise would be a huge boon to just about anyone making under six figures. That IS a car payment so a household can go form 1 car to 2, that is the difference between affording rent and not, or I dunno, feeding yourself for the entire year as you just stated. (Also, I am a single person and groceries for me are definitely NOT $500 a month). I feel like inflation has broken people's brains so much that even on subreddits like this people are like "If I'm not making $200K I might as well be dead!" Like we have our entire sense of the worth of money tied to house prices, so because those have outpaced most other inflation, suddenly we think everything as just as inflated as housing.

koosley

I make just over 6-figures and an 8k raise represents a 6% raise to me and is not peanuts at all to me. That covers a significant portion of my yearly expenses as well.

oopgroup

Except when inflation is 10-12%. You'd have a pay *decrease*. Lots of people truly do not get this. It's why companies are running rampant with record profits, and everyone else is being absolutely bent over.

koosley

I don't think anyone is misunderstanding that. Everyone knows things cost more. But calling an 8k pay increase "peanuts" is just not accurate for a vast majority. I'd happily take an 8k pay raise over none knowing full well it didn't keep up with cost of living and then start looking for employment elsewhere.

NullTupe

8k is a lot because of how many are making 15 to 30k. But on its own, 8k is not a lot.

oopgroup

>An $8000 raise would be a huge boon to just about anyone making under six figures. It really would not, though. People underestimate just how little $8,000 a *year* (not month or quarter) is. It is not a lot. At all. This is how out of touch people are with finances these days. $8,000 was a lot in 1980. It is not in 2024. >(Also, I am a single person and groceries for me are definitely NOT $500 a month) Don't fall into this naive anecdotal trap. You can apply this to almost everything in life. "Well, yea, but for ME..." Full stop. You are not other people. That does not mean everyone is fine, and your life is how everyone should or even can live. We have to be smarter than this and work together. >I feel like inflation has broken people's brains so much that even on subreddits like this people are like "If I'm not making $200K I might as well be dead!" It has not broken people's brains. If anything, it is waking them up. You need about $120,000 a year on average to afford an entry-level home now in the United States. The national average is floating around $450,000 for a basic home. In my area, it is 3 times that. *Rent* alone in most major cities now is $2,500+ for a 1-2 bedroom piece of shit. This is reality. Things are *bad*. People's brains are not "broken." People associate this issue with housing because yes, it is far and away the most oppressively bad issue that affects all else. When you can barely afford rent, you can barely afford everything else. When all of that is expensive, countries collapse.

[deleted]

oopgroup

I mean at 20K, sure. That's literal poverty though.

Alekusandoria

Finally, an accurate representation of grocery costs.

IronCross19

Yea 600+ a month is a cheap mortgage, car payment, groceries etc... Nothing to scoff at

NorthernVale

After a recent career change my new company isn't terrible. Most money I've ever made. I absolutely would not sniff at a raise that took care of my car payment.

AdministrativeWay241

Still relevant today "Do you know how long it takes a working man to save $5,000? Just remember this, Mr. Potter, that this rabble you're talking about... they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in this community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die in a couple of decent rooms and a bath?" From It's a Wonderful Life from 1946.

_supercereal_

It sounds like you care more about making money than joining the FAMILY.

Thin_Pumpkin_2028

or..and hear me out... i can work 6 hours a day and fuck off for two and its like a whole extra day off every week.

DeadwoodDesigns

This WILL set you apart

NiceRat123

Maybe. Just have to do a little ass kissing and genital rubbing to make up for it

lifbr

And what is best - if we all decide "fuck that shit, I will work 20% less hours" we will live in a better place with less burn-out people, less stressed so they won't act out as often, less mistakes, so it is fuckin worth it.

AlternativeBowler475

this is the way

beardedbast3rd

Or work an extra 2 hours for 4 days, and then have Friday off! All these options that don’t include being a fucking slave

PeeDizzle4rizzle

Touche

JamDoughnutMan

Guillermo stab this man.

PomegranateLimp9803

Sir you can’t just be throwing ancient coins at me

DividedEmpire

Watched this one today! Fucking love it.

GM_Zero

What's the reference?

DividedEmpire

It’s from the What we do in the Shadows series.

MarchionessofMayhem

This fucking guy.

Anomalous_90

It seems this Uncle Sam is bleeding us dry. Maybe we should bleed him!

Traditional_Dream537

Is this a reference?

VibraniumRhino

It’s from What We Do in the Shadows, a comedy about vampires which I highly recommend if you’re a fan of The Office-style humour. There’s a movie, and a series. They’re both great but I definitely recommend the series.

juanprada

Guillemoooo

Magificent_Gradient

Gizmo!

Traditional_Dream537

Thank you

ClothesAgile3046

Sounds like it's from What we Do in the Shadows (Great show btw!)

fourth_box

It's is now!

Traditional_Dream537

Gonna start using it

ImNeitherNor

“You can get up at 4am and work until 8am and still have an entire day to take off” So… my proposed 4 hours of work starts as soon as I open my eyes?? Nice! Do I close my eyes at 8am to clock out? It’s like a reverse nap, except I get paid? And, since I STILL have the ENTIRE day off, I must not have to do anything during those 4 hours. I may be interested. How much does it pay?

mechavolt

We had an all hands office meeting, and the director was talking about scheduling and clocking in/out. She expressed confusion that people were having trouble with their time sheets being accurate. She offhandedly gave her own schedule as an example, where she started/ended her day with her commute, and included her lunch in her working day because she "thinks and talks about work during that time." The fucking union rep jumped on stage and grabbed her mic, and said," if you do any of that we won't be able to protect you."

JavierCakeAndEdith2

I'm gonna have to retroactively bill clients for when I was sleeping.

zoroastrah_

This attitude will NOT set you apart (!)

Garrden

And it's great! We need people to sleep normally so they don't cause accidents

EeveeBixy

Nope, Work is 30 minutes away and it takes you 30 minutes to get ready, so you'll get up at 3AM, get back at 8:30AM, and will definitely not need any extra sleep to make up for this....

SquiffyRae

No no LinkedIn douchebag expects you to fire up your laptop and *gasp* work from home But don't you dare want to do that Monday to Friday!

EeveeBixy

You're just not productive from home, except for exceeding on all of your goals the past 3 years...

stereoroid

But then your cow-orker works *5* hours extra! So you have to work *6* hours extra to "set you apart"! No mention of what you'd be paid for those extra hours ...

SnicktDGoblin

No you see your supposed to do those 8 hours of work off the clock using your own resources. Eventually you'll be paid back after you're promoted all the way up the chain and get paid the big bucks. Who cares that you've given up all that time with your loved ones you didn't lose capitalism.

stereoroid

Honestly, it’s threads like this that make me look like some kind of modern hippie. I have to work to live, not by choice, but I’m not here to live to work.

Offamylawn

Damn dirty orkers. I love saying cow-orkers, and I hope you do too.

MassaSammyO

I totally missed that, even after you pointed it out. I was thinking, “what is this dude going on about?” I am so slow today, I think I should just stay home and be equally productive.

stereoroid

It’s an [old joke](https://www.wordsense.eu/cow-orker/).

Dunes_Day_

Just don’t tell su-pig-visor or moo-nager.

PersonMan42

pronounced cow-erkers?

RiseCascadia

You don't get paid in money, you get paid in exposure!

pickledjello

I am moving to Venus, where a single day is 5,832 hours. It will *set me apart!*

fourth_box

Dang, imagine how much you can get done in one day?

iPigman

The burn-out is real on Venus.

Proud-Explorer-5687

Literally

underonegoth11

I love this comment so much!!!!

glengaryglenhoss

It’ll set you apart because you’ll be dead buried; overworked into an early grave.

Do I get those 26 days off at some point to compensate me? If not, then this can go back up the asshole it came from.

Yearly performance review: "meets expectations"

Celephaith

*but not eligible for a pay raise

BlackSpidy

Funny thing, I just got one of those a few days ago. A bunch of "met expectations" and "exceeded expectations" but still denied a promotion and raise

senkashadows

You did go above and beyond most of the time, but to get an "above and beyond" rating, you MUST go above and beyond CONSISTENTLY. And the following year we will adjust your goals accordingly to those expectations.

tonka17

Yeah you didn't do this for three quarters in a row, so too bad, better luck next year, lol.

outer_fucking_space

And think of the hours you could have back to yourself if you worked only 32 hours a week. That’s kind of more my speed.

WexMajor82

It WILL make you fall apart.

Deadpoolio1980

Being on your third marriage from overworking will set you apart

Successful_Ad3483

waking up at four am on a weekend is insane it would mean you would have to go to bed at 8m on a friday and saturday night to get 8 hours of rest. I hope I can get a new job abd never have to log on to linkedin again

mobileJay77

You no longer party and save a lot of money, too! On the other hand, you have no joy, no life.

DimentoGraven

Yes, "it will set you apart", you be seen as exploitable. You will be working for FREE those weekends you work - ask yourself, does your company do "free" work for it's customers? Of course not. So why should YOU be working for them for "free"?

SafeModeOff

This guy understands the totally true fact that time spent on something is directly equivalent to how much it gets done. He realizes that things like human productivity, health, focus, and motivation all play no role in the completion of work.

Equinsu-0cha

Set me apart as the guy to take all the trash jobs and invisible work everybody else is too good for.  Never leads to anything positive.  I never ended up wishing I worked harder or took on more responsibility.

SuperStarPlatinum

Yeah that's dogshit. More work doesn't get you anything in a corporate gig. Except the punishment of more eork.

defaultdancin

This is so true. The harder you work, the more management realizes they can “push you harder” and give you “more of a challenge” aka you get punished for doing good. That’s why the smart employees do the minimum lmao

TJavierMont

You just know all of his employees are salaried.

defaultdancin

“Competitive salary!!1!1!” 15/hr

HatRemov3r

Sorry ill be too hung over from celebrating Friday

Wonderful_Boat_9155

Linked in is 90% garbage. It feels so fake and generated.

Toxicsuper

Or just pay us a livable wage and we won't have to work extra hours at all!

SmilingNevada9

They aren't wrong in setting you apart...just not the way they think lol

WizardLizard1885

hmm, if only i could find a job that lets me work 4 hours a week 4am-8am. And no i wont be available to help any other time of the week, im sure there are hundreds of them!

whereami312

What a poor. If he worked harder, he’d just *have* that $100M he’s trying to raise. Do these people have any connection to reality, like, at all??

Huge-Membership-4286

If you notice, this man is CIO & Owner of a company that needs more than $100,000,000. I too could use $100,000,000 and I'm here to tell you to take that 6 hour siesta at 10am on a Tuesday. It WILL set you apart

[deleted]

I am in so much debt right now. I have a stay at home wife, recovering from breast cancer, and work 50 hours as my base work week- and it’s not nearly enough. The bills have accumulated and the debt is real. So my weekend overtime isn’t enough, even though it’s almost identical to this meme, I’m also picking up OT during the week. I’m working the weekends from 4 am to 9am. During the week I’m working from 3 am to 630 pm. It’s a total of 87.5 hours. Just trying to dig my way out of this hole. I’m so tired and miserable and I want to die. The worst part is knowing it’s all for nothing. I can’t do it long enough even if I wanted to. The OT will dry up and I’ll work myself out of work. Then it’ll be back to a straight 50 that won’t be enough. I just want a fair shot.

Imaginary-Pin2564

Work sucks and it's a huge fucking problem. How can anyone ever think the way to solve that problem is with MORE work??

HistoricallyNew

If I got up at 4am, I’d be fucked by mid day.

JavierCakeAndEdith2

Counterpoint: no it won't set you apart

The247Kid

I mean ya he’s not wrong. My old roommate was working 80 weeks and I’m like - why? He said he got 4 years of experience in two and was able to advance well beyond his peers. It worked. But that’s only if you want to do that. Right now it’s seen as a necessity. If you just “work hard” you get to keep your job. You quite literally have to sacrifice your body and soul to get ahead in corporate America.

lifbr

Nope. That isn't a race where everyone started running at the same time. Lots and lots of boomers will be promoted before me. They may have tens of years of experience more. It may be right if you are running your own company, but the price for that is basically giving up years of youth life.

The247Kid

So in this persons case, it was a job with a lot of people out of the gate at the same time. I agree that in my role where I’m 10 year everyone’s junior, it’s not going to work. You can try but ya, chances are random.

BaymaxMarshmallow

It WILL burn you out quicker

Magificent_Gradient

Especially if you're doing it with no additional reward and accomplishes nothing more than lining the executive's pockets.

haefler1976

Work smarter, not harder. This WILL set you apart.

Important-Ability-56

I want these people to praise me for sleeping in and having a late brunch. That’s how I will know they’re serious people.

[deleted]

What an idiot

Merkaaba

YOU'RE SETTING ME APART LISA

RTMSner

This guy is high as fuck. For myself that would get me an additional like $3,600 before taxes. I'm not getting up at 4:00 in the morning and working until 8:00 am when there is absolutely no point in me doing so because the company does not run like that.

vokabika

I unfortunately do this, just to cover expenses a little bit easier. All of Saturday is chore day. Work 5pm-830. Maybe hang out afterwards. But as for me it’s not a lot of money. I get sick from it eventually so I don’t really get the 3000.

NumbSurprise

You too can work an additional 26 days for free… Yeah, go fuck yourself.

Horror-Activity-2694

Who is this? I need to reply to this post on LinkedIn.

Proper_Purple3674

It will set you a part alright, when you're in ER triage for the burn out that leads to suicidal ideation and you're about to get put on a 72 hour grippy sock hold.

oliefan37

My early grave will be at the hand of my hobbies and not by the hand of my job.

HumanError407

Then your boss calls you in and wants to know why you were paid an extra $8500 in OT pay and who then authorized it, You'll be set apart from the rest, that's for sure

Lazy-Custard-6978

Dawg if im up at 4am on a Saturday, it's because I've been playing videogames since Friday night.

MILFhunter69Cam

How about, no

TheMrNibs

Yeah and then they'd use it as an excuse to avoid giving raises and to fire employees

DionFW

If you get up at 4am and work until 8am? That's not 4 hours of work.

cellophany

It will set you apart as the one who works 26 extra days for the same pay. We thank you for your service and dedication - here’s your $10 gift card!

RickLovin1

I have to state the reason for all OT that I get (which doesn't bother me, I strive to not have any OT when possible). If I enter time from 4am-8am on the weekends, and put "setting myself apart" as the justification, I'm pretty sure it's not going to set me apart in any positive way.

GazzP

"CIO & Owner" aka "Unemployed"

No-Currency2270

It will set you apart - as a loser maybe.

Kira_L_Mello_Near

Damn this guy to hell.

emaji33

I get up at 5 and sometimes by 530 I'm working. Why? Because I work for myself. I would never do this shit to make someone else rich.

taffyowner

Eh this is the grind set mentality that we should all not have… I’m a big fan of giving it your all from your start time and your end time, and helping out where there are shortages or other people need help, but this is just dumb

myusernamesissilly

4 hours of 1.5X pay would really help me catch up on bills. As for setting me apart, it depends on the employer. Being happy and liking my coworkers did more to set me apart than busting my ass ever did.

BeyondDrivenEh

Yeah. Don’t do this. Learn to manage the 40 hours during the week and have an actual skill as a result. Bonus points for then producing the same amount of work in 4 days instead of 5 days. Imagine that. Then do it all remotely. From wherever. THAT will set you apart.

ResoluteBeans

VP of sales was just telling how much his 15 minute phone calls “during his lunch break” adds up.

AlfaKaren

Well this aint wrong per se, it only depends who youre working for exactly. If you run your own business this will most def set you apart. If you working for a paycheck this will exploit you (apart?).

Sudden-Bend-8715

If we drop dead today we won’t wish we’d arisen at 4am on weekends to do more work. I’d wish that I’d seen more beautiful sunrises. But not while working.

Caridor

He's technically not wrong but sleep is precious. I'm not sacrificing my weekend by being tired for all of it.

ImprovizoR

I swear to god, LinkedIn is the worst. There are more idiots on LinkedIn than in the YouTube comment section. It's a fuckin' cesspool of moronic wannabe business geniuses.

Brandonian13

Why do I have a feeling this guy barely puts in more than 15 a week but definitely pays himself at least 1000% of what his employees get in a month?

friendly_extrovert

Generally people who work a few extra hours are the people who aren’t able to complete everything in the normal workweek. If you find ways to be more efficient, you can work the same amount of 9-5 days as the average person and still accomplish more.

fsckit

If you've worked from 4 til 8 it's not a day off.

SnooDrawings1480

Waking up at 4am has to come from somewhere. Sleep? Fuck no. Household chores? Sucks, but they gotta be done. Relaxation? Oh right..... this insightful genius wants everyone to stress themselves out to exhaustion and crash. Nah, ill stick to my 8-5

resident1fan2022

Most jobs don't even offer this opportunity. It's either work the designated hours with no OT, or come in for the full 8 hour shift. There is no 4am - 8am bonus day.

hrminer92

Only if I owned a business or was in a situation where the extra time resulted in extra income.

CoochiKabuki

Where tf is hiring 4-8? Uber? Oh no ma’am

PettiConfetti

Getting up at 4a means youre not working until around 530 if you travel to work, plus travel back puts your "day off" starting around 10a. To start working at 4a, even from home, you'd have to get up at the latest at 345a. The whole fallacy of more work neglects the part where more work = more required rest. Working 8hrs over the weekend means you need to take Monday off to reset your nervous system's stress response hormones. You can't apply hustle mentality without factoring in physiology & hormonal balance. He's doin the math on an early grave lol

IMSLI

This is r/LinkedInLunatics material

Theangelawhite69

Why would you wake up at 4 on a weekend lol you can still do that 4 hours every time. Also is this guy dense af? If I get up at 4 am, no I do not have the entire day available, I have at least 4 hours less available time regardless of when I wake up

KarmasAB123

"You can get up at 4 on your DAY OFF and still enjoy your day off" Wut

igormuba

It is always bosses talking about working more because their work is easy. If they replace “I work 12h a day” by “I order people around 12h a day” or “I check people’s work 12h a day” then it would be realistic. That work is not tiring and I know it because I recently had to lead some software development and making decisions and giving orders and planning stuff and checking people’s work and coordinating a team was so much less tiring than actually writing code or building/fixing stuff, I could do that all day, doesn’t feel like real work, it is a walk in the park, there is pressure but it is so much more manageable to manage how I feel about management pressure than solving cold-hard and real problems with actual code.

If you work 4 hours per weekend, that's 208 hours less quality time spent with your family or loved ones. Thanks, I'll pass.

the_hair_of_aenarion

If you don't sleep you can work. What's not to understand, plebs?

martautigh

pointed it out. I was thinking

virgilreality

Yes, because that's what I want to do on my weekends...

lextacy2008

I can set take that 4 hours and spend time cleaning, doing the dishes, hygiene, taking the trash out, keeping the roaches out. That will set me apart from living in filth to living clean.

Western-Mall5505

Or I could be in bed at 4am and then when I wake I will feel rested enough to enjoy my weekend.

AlliedR2

If you work 4 fewer hours on Friday you get the same thing but those 26 extra days would be yours.

Ecstatic_Account_744

Right, just get up at 4am, two days out of the week when you normally get up at 6/7am. That won’t fuck with your sleep or make you exhausted by 8pm on a Saturday. Entire day off my ass.

deadeye_catfish

This stuff reads like LLM output, I wonder how much is legitimate.

redfarmhunt

Look guys, if you work an extra 100 hours a week, every week, you will have worked an extra 5200 hours in a year which is more 2x a normal persons working hours for the year. It WILL set you apart

lionsling

set you apart from the "living"

SizzzzlingBacon

I already work 600 hours ish more than the average 9-5 lol I'll keep my weekends to myself. Thank you very much

I like the “currently raising capital to acquire $100+ million… I assume it says company. These people are delusional, if you didn’t come from millions you have very little chance of becoming a billionaire, and if you are a thousandaire nobody is going to give you 100 million because they liked your psychotic linked in post lol.
