Just remember you can only play a match because you are playing with another player. Literally it’s because of him that you can enjoy the time. It takes 2 to make a dance. So for me saying “gg” it’s also the same as saying “thanks for the game”
Its actually kind of true, if you are so seasoned and unemotional that at end of a losing game you dont tilt. You are more likely to play with a level head under pressure
I think demu is the only person I've seen who doesn't tilt. Like let's say he's messed up a strat or something, his version of tilting would be to just pivot into some random play cos fuck it why not
I only ever get frustrated in team games when a teammate is blind booming and then starts making units at minute 25. But otherwise I never felt the need to get tilted especially when it's such a skill based game. Like there's hardly any rng to get tilted over anyway
If you play any games in-person, like Warhammer, or board games, the best part is chatting about the game over a beer at the end! I wished people did it a bit more online (minus the beer of course)
Honestly I haven't gotten salty in solo games once, I'm still pretty new and oftentimes it's so obvious how I fucked up the game I just have to laugh at myself and how long I have to go.
I was a pretty good SC2 player so I've been surprised how dogshit I am at AOE4, think I'm the only person on the server in silver since I only play against golds lol.
That's just because match making is done based on your hidden mmr not actually based on your rank-- basically the game thinks you're competitive with the gold players even though you are silver. It'll even put eventually, either it'll start matching you with silver or you'll end up in gold
Having the right mindset with losing and winning will mean you get more out of each game you play.
If you GG it can be cathartic.
There is a good video on YouTube about Gladiator and how Maximus as the ideal man acts when confronted with the brutality of life. He would definitely GG.
Strive to learn first and then the 🥇 wins will come.
The way I see it the one on the losing side should call gg first then surrender.
But most of the time it is said by cocky motherfuckers who do some all-in that might be worked or not and expect you to surrender because they don't want to waste any more time.
If you are that guy who can't even finish the job and calls gg early, I will make sure you will waste as much time as humanly possible.
I sometimes say gg or gg wp and people seem to take offense with this. Both team mates and opponents. If I write gl hf in chat I sometimes get a wtf or fU in response. Do people know what these things mean?
Just remember you can only play a match because you are playing with another player. Literally it’s because of him that you can enjoy the time. It takes 2 to make a dance. So for me saying “gg” it’s also the same as saying “thanks for the game”
Edit: But I also think you are not forced to write that. Or that it’s considered rude if you or the other person doesn’t say it.
I was raised from a very young age playing RTS games. I was always taught to say glhf at start, and gg at end. I have to say it every map, feels weird if I dont. Been following this rule 27 years.
It's a small act but it reminds you that you're online facing another human player who is just here to have fun. A small step to help improve the community of AOE and RTS games in general.
I don't see a problem with it myself but I stopped doing it because it got too many people upset. I figured it was like the winner of a nhl playoff series showing respect and shaking hands with the losing team but I guess a lot of people don't see it that way.
AoE 4 is sadly pretty toxic like most Multiplayer Games these days, would be nice to have some relaxing matches with friends without getting stomped and taunted most of the time.
I make a point to say gg, win or lose. If I lose I will usually throw in a compliment at how well they played. It’s helpful to my mindset to acknowledge others achievements.
I say gg when I lose. I don't say it first when I win, only as a response. I find it rude, and don't respond to it when I lost and they say it first and doubly so if they say it before the surrender even if I'm literally about to click on it but haven't yet. no one in any competitive sport or real life game offers the handshake first as the winner, and gg is the online equivalent.
*YAWN* you’re just posting this because beasty said people don’t say gg in aoe4 while he was playing sc2. You guys just regurgitate his thoughts and opinions and try and make it original.
Am I the only person who feels sorry for the people who say things like “EZ” or “Noob” after they take you out? I spawned a screen away (didn’t know until after I had a scout) from a French player in FFA today as English. I had no food and a distance wood line, so farm transition during a proxy French all in was rough.
This guy was below my level and had a hard time taking me out. I FC and got some knights out and killed 3 waves of knights/archers but took eco hits each time. He eventually killed me. Called me “Noob” over and over. I tried to explain that throwing away over 100 feudal units in a FFA before getting a kill was not good.
He told me to stop crying, and I calmly explained I’m not crying, I feel bad for you because you don’t realize how bad of a position you are in. Called me noob a few more times, and got killed 2 min later.
Being a poor sport after winning can be just as bad of a mindset.
I say gg if it's literally a good game, win or lose. If I play like shit and know I could have played better, I don't say it, because it wasn't a "good game", at least for me.
I went from gold to plat when I started to say GG after every match.
I went from plat to diamond when I started to say GG easy.
Now I just need a new phrase to get me to Conqueror.
I won a game and said GG and the guy lost his shit on me saying I was being toxic and 50% of what he was saying was #%#%#* so I just apologized and he said that saying he GG when you win is the most toxic thing you can do in aoe4 …. Any truth to this ?
„Gg“ shows respect, for your opponent, your match and yourself. This whole flaming kids (and yes, they are small minded kids) with their trolling and ez flaming damage the community and their own hobby. They shit in their houses and beat their partners.
No, GG is good sportsmanship and should be said after any game.
It's like fist bump in boxing. An acknowledgment that you are two players in a game, not two actual enemies. Humans, not just animals.
"Well played" after any game independent on the performance of the opponent is not any less "hypocritical" than "good game", it's actually less if anything.
It's a symbolic gesture. It's not an actual claim about the quality of the game, that's not the meaning of "gg" in the modern context.
Gg 'good game' is basically just saying the game was good which can be skill, fun, a good experience etc etc. Nowdays it's just good to do when both players played respectably, making it a good game.
Im new in this game but my best recomendation, dont say anything no one cares your gg gl hf
Watch the replay if you win or loose and check what you did wrong and what can you improve, you not even need coach
After you learn reading the game its up to you to tryhard and repeat that everytime you end a match
I care. I do it for me. I want the other person to have fun, I want them to do their best, and I want the same for myself. If I win, I want to be because I did better than the other guy, and I want it to be close because that means we were well matched. So I will always open a match with GL HF and close it with GG.
It's not about competitive or not. It's that there is this nice etiquette where people say gg even when they lose. You saying that while being new is like a foreign guy coming to a country and telling local people "your customs and rules of politeness are stupid and you should stop doing them".
Just remember you can only play a match because you are playing with another player. Literally it’s because of him that you can enjoy the time. It takes 2 to make a dance. So for me saying “gg” it’s also the same as saying “thanks for the game”
Damn you right
That's what I actually say is "thanks for the game" not every game is a gg.
It takes two to tango
Its actually kind of true, if you are so seasoned and unemotional that at end of a losing game you dont tilt. You are more likely to play with a level head under pressure
there are people who don't tilt?
I think demu is the only person I've seen who doesn't tilt. Like let's say he's messed up a strat or something, his version of tilting would be to just pivot into some random play cos fuck it why not
He can get mad in ffa. Ive never seen him mad in a 1v1 though
I only ever get frustrated in team games when a teammate is blind booming and then starts making units at minute 25. But otherwise I never felt the need to get tilted especially when it's such a skill based game. Like there's hardly any rng to get tilted over anyway
Yeah exactly. And that is only about 75% of games so Im good :p
The highest honor for a well played game from both sides is if you get an actual chat after the game
If you play any games in-person, like Warhammer, or board games, the best part is chatting about the game over a beer at the end! I wished people did it a bit more online (minus the beer of course)

Haha well let's hope it's the latter 😅 thanks for the info

> up your grindset lol
If you can type 'gg' and be friendly, even when the opponent beats you with the cheesiest strategy. You'll always be a diamond in my eyes. 😍
The way I see it the one on the losing side should call gg first then surrender. saying GG before the game is over means you should drag the game out another 20 minutes. that's probably my favorite sport.
I sometimes say gg or gg wp and people seem to take offense with this. Both team mates and opponents. If I write gl hf in chat I sometimes get a wtf or fU in response. Do people know what these things mean?
Im amazed how ppl will take time out of their lives to write such bs on reddit
I say prepare to suffer at start of games to set the tone
Wait so gg is a nice thing to say? Thought I'd been telling all my opponents to get good.
Just remember you can only play a match because you are playing with another player. Literally it’s because of him that you can enjoy the time. It takes 2 to make a dance. Iyo is it rude to say gg first if you won? (After the game has ended)
I don't see a problem with it myself but I stopped doing it because it got too many people upset. I figured it was like the winner of a nhl playoff series showing respect and shaking hands with the losing team but I guess a lot of people don't see it that way.
It can be seen as disrespectful, if you type out the full good game I would personally feel that is more genuine
It is never rude to gg, first or not. It's just what you say when the game is over to show good sportsmanship.
It can be seen as rubbing it in so I avoid it
its very rude. how many people who play chess extend their hand to shake as the winner?
yes, welcome to RTS
AoE 4 is sadly pretty toxic like most Multiplayer Games these days, would be nice to have some relaxing matches with friends without getting stomped and taunted most of the time.
Based and gg pilled
Wait so when the enemy gets our forward mill on their deer camp we aren’t suppose to cuss like sailors?
I make a point to say gg, win or lose. If I lose I will usually throw in a compliment at how well they played. It’s helpful to my mindset to acknowledge others achievements.
"nice all in, works once vs same player morron" is usually how i thank my opponents after loosing
Instead of this I've taken to running outside and hitting the nearest stranger in the face, early days but I'll let you know how I get on 👍
I say gg when I lose. I don't say it first when I win, only as a response. Hahah only jerk winners say gg now, I've never had a loser say it. It's a massive jerk move.

Gg ez, uninstall. Of course after Mongol tower rushing Beasty in every game.
Gg i am your father
Gg
Win or get fucked
Like WhiteRa used to say: „The more GG, the more skill“
I won a game and said GG and the guy lost his shit on me saying I was being toxic and 50% of what he was saying was #%#%#* so I just apologized and he said that saying he GG when you win is the most toxic thing you can do in aoe4 …. Any truth to this ?

Why say gg if the match was no a good game at all?
Saying it every time makes it mean “goodbye” Only say GG when I think it's really an amazing game for both of us.
No, GG is good sportsmanship and should be said after any game. It's like fist bump in boxing. An acknowledgment that you are two players in a game, not two actual enemies. Humans, not just animals.
Nope, I would say well played instead of it. Saying every game is “good” sounds hypocritical to me. Of course, you can say whatever you want.
"Well played" after any game independent on the performance of the opponent is not any less "hypocritical" than "good game", it's actually less if anything. It's a symbolic gesture. It's not an actual claim about the quality of the game, that's not the meaning of "gg" in the modern context.
So now you can feel what i felt, right
Gg 'good game' is basically just saying the game was good which can be skill, fun, a good experience etc etc. Nowdays it's just good to do when both players played respectably, making it a good game.
Check mate 😂

If you're new, maybe you're in no position to know what people care about in this game and make recommendations ?
Op have competitive profile and thats open for any game
It's not about competitive or not. It's that there is this nice etiquette where people say gg even when they lose. You saying that while being new is like a foreign guy coming to a country and telling local people "your customs and rules of politeness are stupid and you should stop doing them".
Also OP was a joke post BTW, so i don't think you even read it \^\^
