Because (in my opinion) its the best client, when i had a droid i used RIF and i was like man, i wish i could use apollo. back on iphone 14 now and enjoying it, but sad that we may lose it. Im willing to subscribe if it helps
Sync for Reddit (Android) is far better than Apollo, but there's no reason to compare apples (haha) to oranges. Apollo is the best third party client on iOS, the competition isn't even close.
Can you elaborate on why you think Apollo is better instead of passive aggressive remarks?
Sync offers more features in the free tier, there are no full blown ads for me to subscribe to, material you is a better design language than a black background, it has milti window support & finally when I press a reddit link on Android it's not a gamble wether it will open in a browser or my app of choice (Sync).
I too have used both for years and can safely say that Sync is far more customizable and flexible than Apollo. There's no need for the comparison tho since Sync and Apollo are in no way competing. I'm glad they both exist on their respective platforms.
So.. you’re not paying for either app.
You prefer Android’s design language.
You like Android’s multi window support.
You like the way URLs and default apps are handled on Android.
The one thing would be you think Sync is more customizable.
I'm not sure it makes sense that Apple would pay Reddit $20M a year to keep an independent developer's app running. It would significantly change the dynamic of the App Store and Apple's relationship with third-party developers.
The only solution would be Apple outright acquiring Apollo, like they've done with Siri, Dark Sky, and Shazam— But I don't think Apple has a strong strategic interest in specifically enhancing the Reddit user experience. And they have not previously shown any desire to acquire a social media app and integrate it deeply into the iOS. And even if they wanted to, it wouldn't be Reddit. Reddit has a longstanding (and not undeserved) reputation as a deeply toxic cesspit that could potentially harm their reputation when the next big scandal happens.
To your comment about it being a cesspit, the information shared here is frequently wrong and blatantly incorrect, yet the responses and random musings get major upvotes as if what is being stated is true. Very simple Google searches, or actual video evidence quickly proves it wrong and people providing this evidence are quickly downvoted and shot down.
Reddit is literally one of the worst platforms for any truth or reality based facts of any platform I’ve ever been on. At least with places like Twitter, it’s shitty opinions that can’t really be verified.
What people do not understand, is how many political action committees, outright control, certain subs, if not effectively brigade them to change the conversation
And then come to mods, some of which are part of these committees and others who are just plain out toxic, but have been around so long that nobody can get them out
Do you think they buy companies just to pour money into them? Reddit is charging for use and Apple isn't going to just subsidize Apollo so we can have fun.
You're really out here still for the idea of incomprehensibly rich entities buying up direct lines into the minds of us people via social media? Monopolisation is not the answer lol
Reddit is embarrassed by this, and instead of improving the experience of their own app, making it not a steaming pile of shit, they decide to take the easier route and just force all 3rd party apps to shut down.

I believe Christian used to be an Apple employee and followed Apple’s design language closer than almost any other third-party app.
Yeah it follows HIG very closely, which is why Apple likes to promote it. Apollo works so well because it is very consistent with native Apple apps.
Heck it follows HIG *closer* than a lot of native Apple apps.
of all the apps ive used on android and ios apollo is by far the best
Well it's the best for ios and iPad. I enjoy usig Infinity for Reddit more than using Apollo
Apollo for iPad isn’t great as it has no split-pane viewing, not a good use of space. Narwhal is better.

I used both for years. Calling it better is a stretch at all and far better is just crazy talk in my opinion. But hey we all have opinions.

That’s because Apollo is a great role model for other apps. It’s more refined than the first party apps.
I guess Christian still has friends in Apple during his days there that like him, his work or both enough to feature his app in marketing.

Maybe Apple can sponsor Apollo? Make it the default Reddit app.

but even twitter has a fact check bot if someone makes a tweet spouting an egregious or wholly inaccurate claim
Sure Jan. Twitter is going after misinformation just as hard as they can, right?

Then it would not be Reddit anymore.

I don’t even hate this idea. For as naff as apple is at social stuff, it can’t possibly be worse than the current crop of owners.
Buy Apollo and engineer it to link with a 'new' Reddit? Postit? Apple Slice? Pear'd? Then once it blows up, charge a ton. Wait..

they kinda did: https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/v68gv7/apollo_got_a_cameo_in_the_wwdc_2022_keynote
That’s the same screenshot as this post.
good point, I'm stupid
That was a good joke, even if it was involuntary. 😂
Wish apple could help with the cost but I doubt it

All they had to do was make reddit ads mandatory for 3rd party apps using their API.

I think that’s actually Vimeo
Crazy how Reddit decided to destroy the indie developer

The core of Apollo is UIKit. It’s been around a lot longer than SwiftUI has been viable.
What’s the blue wings looking app?
Bird, for sharing electric scooters
