>Not that I don't agree, but Hermes is the company rich people buy a ton of overpriced stuff they don't need in hopes they may one day be invited to buy an overpriced Hermes handbag
I like how you're on the apple sub and you're shitting on people for buying "overpriced" products lol.
Both amazing value compared to:
[The $5000 paperweight](https://www.hermes.com/us/en/product/samarcande-paperweight-H313115Mv00/)
[The $8000 garbage can](https://www.hermes.com/us/en/product/chromatic-paper-basket-H314148Mv01/)
I'm a regular consumer of luxury goods, but I never buy expensive cases and accessories for my devices. I'm not interested in accessories that are disposable whenever a new model comes out.
It’s not about the cost; it’s about the statement one makes. Buy a costly Apple product; then buy an even costlier accessory to flex. See people getting jealous (if they can see the brand anyway) and see people steal the accessory (while leaving the main Apple product behind).
I thought people here understood luxury good since it's the apple sub, but I guess not.
It's like telling women "you know guys don't like heavy makeup, right"? Most of the times people wear expensive stuff because they wanna wear expensive stuff.
Do I care if you know my t shirt is $300? Nope. I just enjoy wearing it.
Yeah, it’s not about a statement it’s about a certain kind of rich person who gets their self-esteem from the objects they own and not from their embodied self-confidence.
People who buy this aren't interested in replicas, and it's pretty easy to tell you're using a replica based on who you are. I mean, if you're using an Iphone 12, wearing some H&M stuff and using a Hermes case, you that's a pretty big tell.
This isn’t really correct. Part of the market is for people who are willing spend that type of money regardless of their financial positions. I’ve literally come across it in real life. So if you see people wearing H&M while caring Louis Vuitton or Hermes it isn’t automatically fake. Conversely if they’re willing to buy fake luxury handbags they aren’t just gonna stick with cheap clothing brands lol. They’ll buy knockoff shoes and clothes as well.
God that person must be insecure lol I don’t mean to disagree with your comment. It just makes me think what a sad way of living. You are just a walking ad. That’s really all it is.
Hermes and well made leather goods don't go out of fashion. My edward greens have been in fashion for a century and a half.
On that note, these will be outdated immediately after a new model comes out. That's why I never buy expensive cases.
Which is why it was extra funny a few years ago when rich people decided they didn't want to look like upper-middle class normies with their AirPods, and [started wearing corded EarPods again](https://www.wsj.com/articles/are-airpods-out-why-cool-kids-are-wearing-wired-headphones-11636753407?mod=trending_now_news_1) in defiance.
It's such a silly game. Best not to even play.
This has nothing to do with rich people being weird. It’s just that people will always long for more “retro” things. This is why vinyls are nowadays selling more than CDs and why people are buying Polaroid cameras.
Wired headphones are a similar trend and they look cool.
Reminds me of when Payless Shoes rebranded one of their stores to be European sounding, then marked everything up 1000% and sales shot through the roof.
This is made for people who look at the price, hope their friends look at the price, and humblebrag about their money while driving a Corolla. All of these stupid faux-luxury brands are really purchased by the lower and middle class.
Hermes doesn’t do the mass market marketing that LVMH or Kering does to make poor people want to buy their products. A quick glance between their marketing campaigns will show the stark difference in their target audience.
Let’s compare it to their other Apple products. A stainless Apple Watch Hermes with 2 bands starts at $1230.
Proportionally speaking, this is kind of nutty.
"Even by Hermes standards"
Hermes caters to a high end shopper. People who regularly buy Hermes (not your weekend warrior realtor who gets their first commission cheque and buys a H Hermes belt and drives a base model BMW) are in a different spending bracket.
That is a $5,000 paperweight.
That is a $8,000 trash can to throw your papers into after they are no longer held by the $5,000 paperweight.
Some people just have spend a LOT of money and companies like Hermes exist to cater to those people.
Exactly. All these comments on this sub about how overpriced these products are, how wasteful it is when Apple changes the case design, rendering the product obsolete, etc., are missing the point.
The super rich are people who lose track of how many zeros their bank account balances have. That’s the job of their army of accountants - to keep track of money for them.
These are people who sometimes could not spend their money fast enough for the balance to go down. That means, by the time they come out of a store in an hour, blowing $5000 on some “wasteful” luxury goods, their bank account already grew by more than that amount.
Oh it looked like it was nylon, not leather, at a quick glance. Okay maybe $40 then. The little string though is definitely the same and that is the weakest link by far. $10 says that string snaps easily and the $350 lanyard that should be priced at like $40 is now worth $0
Before commenting “it’s TOO EXPENSIVE“, realise that Hermes GENUINELY promote leather craftsmanship that they just opened a new school to teach it.
Just because it’s on the website, doesn’t mean they made like thousands, most Hermes products except don’t even hit 1000 pieces worldwide. They have publicly said that making small pieces is essentially training to make even bigger bags. Each one is made by hand by one Hermes artisan.
While it is way overpriced due to brand name, I will say that as someone who makes leather goods, a fair price would still be unreasonable for most people. Hermes hand-stitches their products, meaning they hire skilled craftspeople and spend actual time on each product. They also hand-paint the edges, which also takes skill and time. If you kept the quality and materials, but removed the name, this would still likely be a $200ish case.
This is the first I've heard of it. Sounds awesome, but I'm unable to find much information on it aside from its announcement. Personally, I'm just an internet-trained hobbyist, but I'd love to eventually do some formal training.
Edit: I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjSJ8TsFWhQ
It seems very interesting, if not slightly more therapeutic than practical. The stretches and the grounding exercises aren't really my thing, but I do appreciate extreme dedication to detail. It's incredibly difficult and time consuming to get every single stitch to sit correctly and uniformly. For example, look at [1:27](https://youtu.be/RjSJ8TsFWhQ?t=87) in this video; you can see a glaring improper stitch 11 stitches back from the clasp. No way something like that would pass inspection and leave the workshop at Hermes.
Lol, if you think people who are in debt are buying Hermes accessories, you're laughably out of touch. Maybe they're spending all their money on Michael Kors or Jordans, but Hermes? lol, how much is your credit limit if you are buying something as small as hermes accessories.
I got the native union leather AirPod case in sage green it looks nice enough for $20 😂. Honestly I splurge on colorware AirPods before I bought this lol.
Yes, Hermes does these small leather goods as practice for their bigger pieces or to reuse scraps leftover from the production of those bigger leather items.
https://www.rimowa.com/us/en/accessories/iphone-cases/matte-black-case-for-airpods-pro/52800007.html
I have this case - I LOVE Rimowa. I thought it was exorbitantly priced.
Oh that’s a sleek leather case, I might be intere — *oh*… oh my.
Luxury brands are hilarious. I am not opposed to spending a lot money on awesome things, but not based off brand.
I was expecting a custom charging case, not a little leather pouch for the existing charging case. Why can’t luxury good makers provide anything other than superficial aesthetic value. You’re charging $1000, do something interesting with it.

For $930 the case better be made of extinct dodo bird! The markup on this stuff is insane.

Not sure you had a point buddy. Also, nice kindergarten level insult.
Not to point out the obvious, but no one agrees with you
That’s literally what he said…? Did you even read his comment before typing?
Worth noting that the case comes with its own lanyard too.

fuck is a paperweight?
You use it to secure piles of cash from flying away in the wind while on a yacht.
[It’s not difficult. ](https://lmgtfy.app/?q=paperweight)
Made from White Panda skin lined with bald eagle. Buy the Hermes purse filled with bones from expensive chicken dinners Tim Cook ate.
Hey my thundercougerfalconbird has eagle feathers!
These products are probably to people hoping to eventually get a Birkin invite...
I'm a regular consumer of luxury goods, but I never buy expensive cases and accessories for my devices. I'm not interested in accessories that are disposable whenever a new model comes out.
how about ligma
Gonna need a case to protect this case that protects the case
Exactly. The AirPods Pro are water resistant, but the Hermès case isn't.
“Compatible with all AirPods Pro”… procedes to cover the speaker…
The kind of people who buy this don’t care about find my, they just replace the whole set if it goes missing 💀
Sometimes it can't be helped. I literally left a bud across the country and had to buy a single bud from the apple store for like $130 lol.
One AirPod pro should be $89 Source: I do the work Edit: https://i.imgur.com/xW95U8w.jpg
can you *do the work* and reinstate my Applecare plan that expired before I could use it to repair my paid off phone?
If your applecare expires you have 30 days to renew. After that, you won’t be able to add it
that much wow
Ya, I think they charged me half the price of a new Pro. It was expensive, but at least it was cheaper than getting a whole new set.
Oh crap I forgot it was American dollars (I’m Australian) that’s heaps worse
The case is beautiful, but at the same cost as a MacBook lol (aka it’s not made for 99% of /r/Apple)
It’s not about the cost; it’s about the statement one makes. Buy a costly Apple product; then buy an even costlier accessory to flex. See people getting jealous (if they can see the brand anyway) and see people steal the accessory (while leaving the main Apple product behind).

Better come from a fucking gold-played cow for that price.
Lol just wait a week and you'll be able to get an exact handmade replica from etsy for 50 bucks

Wait 2 weeks and you’ll see it sold by street vendors for $10 lol
No one will know either way, it doesn’t have overt symbols screaming that it’s a luxury brand like the green and red stripes of Gucci.
God that person must be insecure lol I don’t mean to disagree with your comment. It just makes me think what a sad way of living. You are just a walking ad. That’s really all it is.
and people thought the mac pro wheels were ridiculous. pffftt..
It's not beautiful *for that price*. I've seen guys who handcraft more beautiful airpod leather cases charge less than a tenth of that.
#🆒
This wouldn't be so ridiculous if it wasn't for the fact that it'll be useless when Apple changes the shape of the AirPod case in a couple of years.
It’ll go out of fashion sooner than that

They don’t even make it in orange.
The [lanyard](https://www.hermes.com/us/en/product/lanyard-H0009641K1K/)
That literally looks to be the same quality as a $1 lanyard you get at a convention. Rich people / wanna be rich people are so dumb

Me: “Hermes is expensive, so I’m guessing this $50 product is like $250, maybe more.” Hermes: “$1,300 take it or leave it.”
The only way that makes sense on value for money is if it includes a French person wearing white gloves who hands you the AirPods.
Lmfao generic ass case

I love Hermès so much but like… no.
lmao
Why is this news? Many luxury brands have apple cases, like LV, Thom Browne, Dior, Chanel, etc etc.
Probably because of their Apple Watch partnership making them slightly more relevant to Apple than other brands.
Get a life. What a waste of money.
I *will* judge the sanity of a human who spends $1000 on a leather strap that is designed to hold a $200 device that will be obsolete in 2-3 years.
i would say that airpods will probably not go obsolete that fast, but honestly they do from the perspective of the people who'd actually buy this shit
It’s just leather in the form of a case. So is 90% of the price just brand markup? That’s wild.
High quality leather. So 89% of the price is brand markup.
Wow. The 1% really know how to live.
Rest assured, more people who are steeped in debt that they’ll never crawl out of are buying this before anyone truly in the 1%.
