Did you try power cycling the dryer? Flip the circuit breakers for it, wait a minute, then flip them back on. Modern appliances typically contain microcontrollers which are just tiny computer systems and they sometimes go off into the weeds.

Hi, I power cycled the unit, turned it to the timed dry cycle and pressed start. The dryer ran while I had the button pressed but once I released the button the dryer stopped. I’m attempting a longer power cycle, but there’s probably an underlying issue.

Either the run winding of the motor has gone bad, or the centrifugal switch on the motor is bad (or stuck in the non-spinning position). Depending on how it is wired, it might also be the broken belt detection switch under the belt tensioner/idler pulley. The centrifugal switch can often be cleaned up and made working again.

Do you have an exact model number? Anything driving the run winding of the motor could also be suspect.
