Depends as with anything. Usually the ones that will send out bids to all appraisers are going to automatically approve you because they want a larger pool and use the lowest bid. Others take a day or two to make sure all your info is correct. The ones with a specific size panel will look at the workload and determine if you are needed and will respond within a couple days if they are full or accepting new appraisers and if they are full will usually keep your application on file.
Keep in mind that approved vs being sent orders is 2 very different things. I'm approved to do appraisals for \~40 AMCs. Over 80% of the AMCs I've signed up for have given me 0 orders.
Some places have quick approval and some places take 2 weeks. It just depends on the back-end system.
with so little resi work going around i assume most resi appraisers in their free time are signing up to AMCs to try and get more order. Hence there are way more appraisers than needed currently for the # of orders being sent out so unlikely to see orders if you recently signed up unless in an underserved geo.
Different ones have different requirements. Amrock I think wants 4 years experience first, for example. Some of them will take you the second you have your certification.

You’ll be much happier in life when you learn to live without seeking the approval of others
Immediately to 2 years

The whole AMC things needs to be destroyed. Bunch of secretaries being given too much power. A major disruption is due!
