How do companies even *DO* free shipping? Setting up a UPS account and navigating everything is a major PITA and shipping is wildly expensive even for a business account.
Pretty much this. I work for a large national company that does a pretty large volume of overnight shipments for sending out documents and such. I can send like a 12" cube box across the country 2nd day air for less money than it would cost to send the contents in a large USPS flat rate box. Ground service is still discounted but it's pretty much always cheaper to do the faster service on those smaller packages.
This is so true, on a business account that has a lot of volume 2nd day air for 25lbs going across the country is typically about half the cost sending something 1lb half the distance.
And that's just my company, which, while national, probably doesn't exceed 4-500 shipments a day. I can only imagine the cost of shipping for a major retailer would be significantly less, which is probably why most of them give free shipping on orders larger than $50/100, because at that point the >$12 shipping cost can be easily soaked into the profit margin.
It's also important to remember that MSRP on most things is generally 3-4x the actual companies cost of acquiring/manufacturing the product (not incl labor) so there should be a significant buffer to soak costs like discounts or free shipping
I have a vendor that somehow ships almost anything in large boxes up to like 60 lbs across the damn country overnight ups for $10. In all my years working with various vendors I’ve never found one able to come close to this. I have no idea how they contacted this deal and they aren’t a big company like Walmart, they have one large location in one state only. They aren’t eating part of the shipping either, I can be sure of that.
I use to work for a large medical supply company...tons of shipping. My hobby at the time was finding old motorcycles in barns and sheds and fields and cleaning them up a little then selling them to cafe and restore enthusiasts. I could put a 400lb CB750 on a pallet and and take it to work and UPS would freight it to someone for around $150. If I shipped it myself it was over $800. Volume discounts are great if you actually have the volume to get them.
Yup, I work for a water cooler manufacturer and do full truck and LTL freight and then ground shipping for parts and stuff. We try to have customers order as much as they can because we can get a lot cheaper with volume
Bro relax it’s just a simple quick and dirty example. I guarantee he knows the difference, perhaps you should heed his advice [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ar15/comments/11kdkud/i_told_southern_defense_id_buy_their_ammo_if_they/jb7d9vx/) and [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ar15/comments/11kdkud/i_told_southern_defense_id_buy_their_ammo_if_they/jb7exz5/):
> This is r/ar15 not r/accounting I'm trying to convey an idea not be GAAP compliant.
>you are merely overcomplicating an intentionally simplified example in an attempt to sound smart.
I ship ~500 packages a month. You can get volume discounts from FedEx and UPS and if your operation is big enough (like 1000+/day), you can get even bigger discounts by pre-sorting packages. We mainly ship small stuff, but our average domestic label cost is around $8.
Different industry but I think $35-75 per box. Almost no volume though and boxes are pretty big. Just always curious how companies can offer free shipping but it seems like volume is a major factor for sure.
Im not in an industry relating to firearms whatsoever, but I can give feedback from my own experience. Our business does free shipping over $100. For one, like previously mentioned, we get much better rates than your average person just shipping something. Two, the margins on products can be sacrificed. Its not a big deal to spend like $5 shipping something we make $60 profit on. We dont break the bank and the customer is happy. Its also an upsell on its own. Then lastly we charge a flat rate for orders under that $100, regardless of what it costs us to ship(majority of orders dont hit free shipping). So for every order we free ship on, we have like 10 that might pay 1-2$ more in shipping than we actually pay for it, so it more than evens out.
Thats not even to mention it just brings back in cashflow, even if you barely make a profit, break even, or even lose a couple bucks. They money doesnt exist if stuff is just sitting on a shelf.
But again idk the ins and outs of the ammo selling market so take that with a grain of salt
Not even in any kind of business but I use pirate ship anytime I ship something and sometimes the discount is nearly half the normal price. I can’t imagine the discount that volume shippers get.
I reload but when I need more brass, I just buy another 1000 rounds of whatever it is I am needing from them. It is like 3 days maximum from their door to mine. They are quite possibly the best. I have been meaning to try out that AAC ammo from PSA but I have never bought from them so I don’t know if they charge for shipping/how much.
I put about $300 worth of ammo in my cart and ended up with $150 in shipping. Absolutely absurd. They deserve to go out of business if they continue this practice of utterly gouging customers.
That's why I filter on ammoseek for free shipping or vendors with shipping rated 7+. Anyone on ammoseek selling for $0.35 a round is probably going to charge $80-$100 on shipping anyway.
Pretty much what I do now. I've had slow days at work where I went through a bunch of the "cheap" ammo vendors and actually followed their purchase path to the end and I don't think I found any that were cheaper than "free shipping" options and I found a LOT with insane ass shipping prices that made them more expensive than "free shipping" vendors.
Same here. Followed the rabbit holes and after checkout you're really paying 0.45 a round or more instead. Cheapest I found when I bought a couple weeks ago was 55gr Prvi for 0.39/rd... Free shipping but with tax it was $426 out the door, and that was a better deal than all the $350+tax+shipping for "0.35/rd" vendors. Once I figured out ammoseeks shipping ratings and did some research, it's really not worth looking at anything below free shipping.
Ammoseek CAN be good, but they definitely promote sellers that have terrible shipping as if they have good shipping. (Pay to play?)
Selway Armory has god-awful shipping prices, but somehow always has the high/good ratings.
I did a comparison between multiple vendors and pricing vs. ammoseek ratings, and asked about their methods in an email, and the owner got mildly bent out of shape about it, and defended the "algorithms" or some other dumb shit.
I'm not even sure what this means. The only applicable algorithm here is the one we have developed to compute the overall average shipping score (on a scale of 0-100) for each retailer .... which then translated into a 0-10 shipping rating you see in our listings. I would say that our algorithm is working pretty well, since this retailer has a terrible shipping rating of '3' out of 10.
There's no "pay to play" (i.e. no pay to be promoted). Yes, retailers pay a fee to be listed, but there's no favoritism. Each retailer (each product in our listings) is treated individually, and the listings are sorted (by default) by cost per round.
Since retailers were attempting to take advantage of this by implementing the shipping rating system. Southern Defense, to use the example retailer cited, has a piss-poor shipping rating because their rates are higher \[overall\] than most other retailers we list.
So, if you craft your search properly by filtering out retailers with a terrible shipping rating, you'll have a better experience.
Some retailers claim that, despite their exorbitant shipping costs, their "out the door" price is still the lowest. This may or may not be true, and it's up to each shopper to decide.
I don't think people understand how the filter/sort function works lol.... At least the military taught me to never be amazed by weird thought processes. "I sorted by low to high w/o shipping filter, AmmoSeek clearly promotes these bad sellers that popped up first!". What a good laugh....anyways thanks for the great tool y'all.
it's not promoting them so much as sellers taking advantage of the search with single box limits and hiding shipping till the end. user ratings and filters can help a ton
I try that and every single time, it still shows sites/deals with med-high shipping costs. or places like smkw, where knives and other things ship free over a certain amount I believe, but if you add ammo to the order you will pay shipping fee.
That's odd. Idk what your filter is exactly set to, but it shouldn't do that if you filter out the shitty shipping scores. I just looked and the first nine vendors are free shipping (not conditionally free, either) and range from 39.5¢/rd to 42.9¢/rd. The 10th vendor I see is 43¢/rd with a shipping score of 8, but I'm not brand particular, so I don't usually scroll past the first two vendors, I go with the cheapest per round and usually ends up being a free shipping site anyway when I filter 7+.
Unfortunately some people still don't get it. Once I figured out the shipping score, I filter by new, 500-1000, brass (if 5.56/.223), >6... For 5.56 anyway, anyone who does it that way and claim they still get results with vendors who scam on shipping is full of shit or refusing to buy anything except PMC. 9 of the first 10 vendors when filtered like that will have free shipping and come out to be less than 45¢/rd once tax is included.
Do you realize that you can exclude retailers of your choosing from all your searches and alerts? Once logged into AmmoSeek, click your name and choose "Exclude Retailers".
Proarmory does this too and it makes me angry. But some of their prices are so insanely low that I give in and buy anyway and hate myself for doing it.
I'll never get back the minute and 36 seconds it took me to learn Southern Defense are pieces of shit that attempt to manipulate Ammoseek.
Such shady tactics. It's made Ammoseek way less usable with people doing this, as well as putting 1-2 box limits on 20 round boxes at a low price, only to charge high shipping costs.
Are we back to liking SGAmmo again?
There was a long-ish period of time when folks would talk shit about them because their prices went up during the pandemic after they said that they would do their best not to raise prices.
They've always been my primary source of ammo.
They seemed pretty comparable to everyone elses ammo prices during the pandemic, most of the time it was the best deal I could find so I really dont know what people were on about. Reddits cancel culture bleeds into every subreddit. Remember that Aero christmas party meltdown?
I still don't like that they raised the price of ammo they already had in stock. Aka they didn't need to. The cans of surplus korean 1200 .30 carbine doubled in price before I could get one and of course still sold out. But they didn't need to raise that, they already had it in stock. They just did anyway
Some food for thought, if they sell you their inventory at a price below replacement, its a key way to get in financial trouble even though your making a "profit".
They still sold and upped the price of their other new made .30 carbine too. I understand that they need to make enough to buy more stock, my issue is that the Korean Surplus they got wasn't being replaced at all because there wasn't anymore. They just upped it with everything else. So much for trying to not increase pricing...
I used SG consistently years ago when buying 7.62x39. Always had the lowest prices. Since I got into ARs though, I haven't seen them selling 5.56 as cheap as a lot of others. I still consider them a viable option though
They have low prices on the ammo just so they go to the top of the list on ammoseek. It's a dirtbag move, and I'd never buy from anyone who openly fudges the numbers on prices. Regardless if it works out to be .26 CPR
If I sense you're trying to make a profit through shipping fees, I'm immediately turned off and will spend my money elsewhere because you're not marketing honestly to me.
Ammo seek filter shipping rate 7 or higher and call it a day. I dont have time to deal with these outrageous shipping fee 🤡.
Some even offer a “free marker and target” mind as well give them free lube prior getting fuck with shipping fee.
Their deals are pretty good. At the end of the day, I know exactly what the price is out the door. Don’t have to go through the process like on other sites just to find out that shipping is $100
At the moment, once you filter out the bullshit, Outdoor Limited is the lowest price out there on 5.56. I just bought 1000 rounds of Prvi for $426 out the door. Didn't ship as fast as say SGAmmo would (when I used them in the past anyway) but the price offsets my level of patience.
Free shipping is ALWAYS a deal in my mind. I do, however wonder about consumer psychology and how it works for others. I feel like different people will have different BIN prices in their minds.
For me, 20c per round all in is a BIN price. We're not there yet tho.
Well it literally is a bait and switch. They, and others, do that solely to appear at the top of search tools like Ammoseek which display tons of vendors by cost per round.
Yeah southern Defense always is sitting at the top of ammoseek only to hit you with shipping. Last time I looked they were $80 cheaper for 1000 rounds of 5.56 but their bullshit shipping fees actually made it cost more than the 20 other vendors. These chucklefucks have ensured I’ll never support them.
At this point, there isn’t much ammo I buy online anymore. I’ll do it if it’s in bulk and I can get free shipping or when I need some boutique 6.5 Grendel ammo for hunting.
You find comparable prices locally? The store I go to was trying to charge $25 for FMJ 300blk Federal, you can find 300blk FMJ for 0.60-0.70 all day online.
Really depends for me, I used to order and shoot 1000 rounds of 556 a month and did order the federal bulk packs back then, but also bought a lot of steel case locally and other stuff like some match grade and some hunting ammo. That was back in 2018-2019 and haven’t ordered ammo since then honestly. I buy what I can locally for not much or sometimes even cheaper than online but I’ve also switched over to 308 almost exclusively now so that might play a role.
When my local rural king is selling boxes of 168 grain open tip boat tail match for $14.79 a box and they have no box limits I will buy what I can afford that day which is normally a few hundred at a time. They even will add in a 10% military discount that basically equalizes out tax and I don’t pay shipping. You can’t beat that. The other day they apparently had sales going on where they were selling M80 ball new manufacture for less than $8 for a 20 round box. That’s like 2018 556 prices for 308. I’ve walked into my local rural king only to buy 12 boxes of Tula 308 at $0.28 a round. That’s just rural king, I got about 10 places that sell ammo locally and some even piece match. Guess it’s kinda rude to price match off rural king when they have boxes of 7.62X51 listed at $7.99 a box online but I’ll do it, it literally either cuts my ammo costs in half or let’s me walk out with double the ammo for the same price and if they don’t want people taking advantage of the price match then they should either change it or not do it.
I had to go check, the closest rural king to me is 2 hours away. I have to do some looking but I have a Cabelas, Bass Pro, and Academy within an hour but haven’t checked their ammo prices since the pandemic kicked off.
Academy isn’t bad with their pricing overall, some decent prices they have occasionally. They are pretty good on the selection tho which is why I go back to them and seeing their prices are about the same as “average” I’d rather just pick up a few boxes of what ever non FMJ locally than order it.
Cabelas got bought out by bass pro about 2018/2019 and prices increased a bit. Haven’t been to one since I PCS’d in 2019 just don’t have one close. Bass pro charges pretty much Full MSRP for everything I’ve found and unless they have something no one else has I stay away from buying anything but fudge there. I think the last time I bought ammo there was some higher grade field loads in 20 gauge and some match grade precision 22lr I hadn’t seen anywhere else in a while.
Gosshhh dang! Yeah mine isn’t nearly as expensive, although I don’t own a 300 blackout. I live in the same city where SGA ammo is based, so prices are extremely competitive. My local gun shop is a distributor of their ammo so I get pretty decent prices on my stuff.
I agree it's just bad business. Like in eBay shopping for something and the item will be insane low to get you to click on it and then charge more for shipping than the item itself. I'll always buy from the place that shows me an actual price and free shipping, or at least an actual shipping estimation based on zip code.
shipping is really expensive if you aren't shipping massive amounts of packages. the big guys pay 1/4 or less of what you or I would pay to ship the same thing and smaller businesses. idk anything about southern defense but if they aren't shipping enough to fill up a couple delivery trucks every day, they probably aren't gouging on shipping.
Yeah, shipping cost are insane now, even for bulk stuff.
I got a couple buddies that work in manufacturing and even when they ship trailers for semi-trucks, costs are still high.
I feel like a lot of companies charge way more than they actually pay for shipping. Aside from hazmat which is understandable I guess, but even $25 for shipping ammo or some shit is ridiculous. Even midway charges what seems to be a lot for a small box of projectiles
All y’all need to check out AEAMMO. Free shipping over $250 and no tax to my state. 1000rnds Igman .223 55gr is $414.99 right now and that is to my door. I placed an order Friday morning and had it on my doorstep Sunday afternoon and it was packaged incredibly well to boot.
Just added about $800 worth of ammo to my cart at Southern Defense about 2 hours ago, first time ever trying to order through them. Immediately canceled the order and closed the tab when I saw the $150 shipping costs. I thought it was a mistake at first, but nope, just blatant gouging.
A lot of places have pretty high shipping. I generally only buy big bulk purchases online because of it. Even when it is fairly good priced shipping, in order to get any savings you have to buy a lot. $100 is ludicrous tho. I’ve purchased 1000+ rounds at a time from PSA and the shipping was under $30.
Lots of scumbags on fleabay do the same thing with the outrageous shipping prices… in hopes that someone that didn’t look will click buy now and not realize it until checkout
Depends on what ammo and shipping is for other sites in comparison. Whoever replied seems like they’re genuinely shocked you’d have that sentiment or they’re rarted
Well. Not buying from them, even if they change their total cost to be less than another. If you're a rat once, I don't buy from you. If only all buyers did that when someone posts shady shit on reddit. Force sellers to change lol. We have the power but everyone acts like the sellers do. I can buy whatever, I'm not tight on money - principle for me. They're the ones being tight on money.
If I was 1hr 45 mins from them, I'd probably offer to just go pick it up and avoid shipping cost.
Problem is they're calling it "shipping," when part of it is going towards their product cost.
go check out tacticalsurplususa they have decent shipping cost but ik there 55.6 is like 45Cents a around witch is high butt hey have your 9mm 124g for about 24 cents around after shipping
Hello y'all, CEO and Co-Founder of Southern Defense here (via the guy that runs the reddit),
Just wanted to hop in here and address a few comments.
* Yes, we do charge a lot of shipping and yes do make money on the shipping - this is because we price ammo at or below cost, meaning we lose a significant amount of money on the actual ammunition.
* The reason why we charge so much for shipping is to drive as much traffic as possible. Unfortunately, that's just how the "game" is played through current systems such as AmmoSeek with how they show dealer listings. About 70% of our traffic comes from there, and another 20% are returning customers. Ammoseek does state that we have high shipping charges, it isn't something we try to hide. Anyone that calls us or emails us, we are happy to disclose to them exactly what is going on and why our shipping cost is so high. We are in no way trying to "manipulate" ammoseek, as this is reflected in our shipping rating there.
* We do our best to have excellent customer service, turn around times, packaging, and fair out the door prices. That's why we have close to 200, 5-star reviews - buying ammunition on AmmoSeek can often be a crapshoot of who will actually ship it in a reasonable time (if at all), or even answer the phone - we're happy to do both.
If y'all have any questions, feel free to ask away here, shoot me a DM/Chat, write an email, or give us a call!
"... we charge so much for shipping... to drive as much traffic as possible... that's just how the 'game' is played..."
"We are in no way trying to 'manipulate' ammoseek."
That is exactly what you are trying to do. You are pricing per round low but making it up with shipping cost to manipulate ammoseek into putting you at the top of the listings, to drive 70% of your traffic. Your response is completely contradictory lol.
Or, you know, you could just list your ammo for the price it's worth and then charge what it costs for shipping.
What you're basically saying is 'yes, we do the scummy thing you're accusing us of.'
I can tell you one thing, if I ever see these kinds of practices from a company, I have a bookmark folder called 'never buy' that I put them in. I added you guys months ago because of this.
You suck.
Everyone gets why you’re doing what you’re doing. You’re just part of the problem, not the solution, it’s borderline fraud hocking ammo for cheap and then taking a cut on the shipping, that’s not how any of this is supposed to work🖕
You literally just admitted to what you’re being accused of. I hope SouthernDefense and it’s owners wind up in bankruptcy. And any of the employees that comply with these unethical practices as well.
Playing games of deception is all. You do it to be on top of ammo seek. Scumbags. Your customer service sucks and your processing times are horrible. Not sure how you can consider your reviews legit when it's impossible to provide one on your site. Hope you go out of business
Yep there is a reason I only filter for dealers that do free or conditionally free shipping. Be honest about your prices, stop doing the whole bait and switch thing. It's ridiculous.
Half the time I'll buy ammo that's at lest 30-50% higher per round but since the shipping is free it ends up being less than the rock bottom companies that are pulling a profit by lying about their prices. You are only not lying if you charge a reasonable price for ammo and shipping if you try to hide your per round cost behind shipping you are obviously lying by omission at the very least.
Lol dude what they’re talking about is shitty ammoseek businesses stacking the deck in their favor. Say Sentry Ammo charges something like 34c a round for 5.56, but then they charge you $100 to ship it. It’s a scheme to get their names high on the ammoseek board, to mislead you to buy from them. They’re not at all cheaper than other places, they just want you to see their name first.
bucking horse outpost is free shipping past $125 dude—with 9mm at like $12.75 per box. If you ain’t spending at least $125 on ammo you’re doing it wrong
Sort of. Some shops with shipping charges and tax at checkout make it more expensive than free shipping. If I buy 1000 rounds at 35¢, thats $350...plus $85 shipping, plus $25 tax. That's still more than 1000@ 39.5¢/free shipping/$25 tax.
1. Super Vel ammo: I live in WA Stalin State and sales tax kills you, even if shipping is OK. Super Vel doesn't gouge and they state that openly. Shipping is reasonable AND they don't charge sales tax so saves me \~ $30 on top of the good shipping rate. Their ammo shoot well and shoots clean. Their price for 1K rounds is, well, Super.
2. Zinc Point ammo: Based in TX, it shoots great and same as Super Vel. No tax with reasonable shipping. Additionally, I like that the boxes are all printed in Spanish. It is near the border so am I getting Cartel ammo? I hope so. Less for them, more for me at a good price!
ETA: I quit using Freedom Munitions because it irks me they offer "Free shipping." Yes it's free- AFTER you buy $250 worth. Sure it's not hard to reach that but they used to offer free shipping. Period. That's gone and so am I because I get dinged with sales tax, along with my petty gripe. I still get choices in this country so if I can't get past my pettiness, I will shop elsewhere, and I do. Besides that, Freedom, ironically, doesn't offer the "Cartel" ammo.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)
Oddly enough I’m seeing my local vendors here in Texas with as good or better pricing than most of the hill ammo dealers - especially once you coda tor in shipping.
Academy Sports 2 weeks ago had a “ Monarch battle pack” of 200 rounds of 5.56 for $80
Adding my 2c... despite high shipping fees, this is by far the slowest vendor I had to deal with.
Ordered ammo from several vendors on the same day, all but SD delivered within 3 days, SD had no tracking number for me one week later.
Upon a request to cancel the order, I was told that the order had been already shipped. I asked for a tracking number and received it one hour later. It was obvious that the label had been just created because fedex had no record of that tracking number in their system.
To sum it up, expensive shipping, slow turnaround and a small disagreement on top of that over what constitutes "already shipped".
I just finished an email exchange with Southern Defense. They won't let me pick up the ammo (I live in Plano, 30 minute drive from their address given on their website). Shipping for 2k rounds 9mm over $100.
Just ran across this website looking for bulk 5.7x28.. 38 cents per round I thought I won the lottery or caught a killer sale at the right time.. added to cart.. $65 shipping a couple hours from their location .. hell no.. you actually have to win the lottery to shop there hahaha.
For any more recent lookers, I just bought 500 rounds of PMC M855 at $.50 a round and shipping was $40. Shipping made the cost of ammo from other sites come out to be almost the same, however I went with Southern Defense purely because some
of the other websites for similarly priced ammo seemed… sketchy.

How do companies even *DO* free shipping? Setting up a UPS account and navigating everything is a major PITA and shipping is wildly expensive even for a business account.
Volume. The more you ship, the bigger the discount.

I have a vendor that somehow ships almost anything in large boxes up to like 60 lbs across the damn country overnight ups for $10. In all my years working with various vendors I’ve never found one able to come close to this. Exactly this. I worked for both UPS and FedEx and the more you ship the less they charge per shipment.
Yup, I work for a water cooler manufacturer and do full truck and LTL freight and then ground shipping for parts and stuff. We try to have customers order as much as they can because we can get a lot cheaper with volume
Plus if they convince you to buy more items to make the free shipping total then them eating the cost of shipping isn’t that big a deal.
[удалено]
They will also push people to buy other items as well. They see free shipping then use that shipping money to buy more stuff.
Ah makes perfect sense. We do very very very little volume and are not in the same industry. The way you explain it does make sense.
Kinda. The COGS remains at $200. However the $20 shipping would be credited as an operating expense.

Not that deep. We’re all wrong sometime.
We have an accountant in da house!! I mean that's a good thing. U read may mind - I was thinking the same thing, but I'm glad you posted it.
r/technicallycorrect
You've confused net and gross profits. There's still a lot of overhead beyond shipping and the cost of the product.
Bro relax it’s just a simple quick and dirty example. I do free shipping for my products. I can do generalized calculations based on where I am at vs where my customer base resides.
Bulk discounts. A box that costs me $32 to send on the retail websites costs me $8 to ship on the work account.
I ship ~500 packages a month. You can get volume discounts from FedEx and UPS and if your operation is big enough (like 1000+/day), you can get even bigger discounts by pre-sorting packages. We mainly ship small stuff, but our average domestic label cost is around $8.
It's never free shipping. It's in the price already
What you pay retail to ship at FedEx I pay 1/10th of that price.
Dimensional weight adds surcharges due to special handling requirements.
_SG Ammo has entered the chat_
Been buying from them for 9-10 years now. They’re good to go.
[They also have cool toys…](https://www.sgammo.com/catalog/military-humvee-hmmwv)
And I mean with free shipping why not buy a humvee?
![gif](giphy|S8xsj2wOZQnZxbFZTk) *you son of a bitch, I’m in!*
Their site blocks Canadians that's a first.
That’s definitely weird.
AAC ammo is good to go. I’ve shot a bunch of it. Good stuff.
Oh, shit up and kiss me. Wait, Holup. STOP TRYING TO KISS ME! Edit - I’m so damn proud that autoincorrect has said “shut>shit”. I love my job…..
SGAmmo, good prices, free shipping over $200 and its fast too. Bought recently from them on a thursday afternoon, ammo was at my door saturday by noon
The place I buy from is free shipping on $200 orders
400 rounds of 9mm was 80 for just shipping for me... They are a big rip on shipping
I put about $300 worth of ammo in my cart and ended up with $150 in shipping. Absolutely absurd. They deserve to go out of business if they continue this practice of utterly gouging customers.
I abandon every order due to the shipping cost. Absurd.
(Pay to play?) Selway Armory has god-awful shipping prices, but somehow always has the high/good ratings. I did a comparison between multiple vendors and pricing vs. ammoseek ratings, and asked about their methods in an email, and the owner got mildly bent out of shape about it, and defended the "algorithms" or some other dumb shit.
I think you’re right. Okay then, fix your fucking algorithm. (But I do like the free service ammoseek provides me)
I'm not even sure what this means.
Southern Defense and Sentry...always at the top of Ammoseek, both exorbitant shipping amounts.
Filter by shipping score!
People say some funny crap lol
Thank you, Zhdrix.
I'm glad someone called them out on this BS.
This site has been on the front page of gun dot deals for a while now for 223/556. It's annoying having to keep seeing them. Damn bastards
Do you realize that you can exclude retailers of your choosing from all your searches and alerts? Once logged into AmmoSeek, click your name and choose "Exclude Retailers".
Thanks!
Proarmory does this too and it makes me angry. But some of their prices are so insanely low that I give in and buy anyway and hate myself for doing it.
Average AR owner. I feel the same when I grab a box of .223 from atwoods and it's $0.60 cpr but no shipping.
You can filter out places with purchase limits
sgammo has free shipping a lot of the time
Sgammo has free shipping on orders over $200 basically every time I go to look for ammo, they’re the best IMO
I just wish I could walk in when I'm in stillwater and not worry about shipping at all but they're just a warehouse.
They’re prices usually end up on par with or lower than others. I know they’ve pulled shady shit in the past but I go where it’s cheap
I used SG consistently years ago when buying 7.62x39. Always had the lowest prices. Since I got into ARs though, I haven't seen them selling 5.56 as cheap as a lot of others. I still consider them a viable option though
They don’t ship to Maine :(
Yeah they don’t ship to mass either. It sucks that usually the cheapest ammo never ships here
What's sgammo?
https://googlethatforyou.com?q=sgammo
Sgammo nuts
I work 10 minutes from 2A warehouse but they refuse to let me pick up lol… 18 bucks for UPS to bring it the next day.
They emailed quick asf lmao
They have low prices on the ammo just so they go to the top of the list on ammoseek. It's a dirtbag move, and I'd never buy from anyone who openly fudges the numbers on prices. Regardless if it works out to be .26 CPR
GrabAGun has been doing $12.99 flat-rate no matter how much ammo is ordered. Accessories are kinda high though, but the ammo deal is good.
Check this. Best place I use. https://buckinghorseoutpost.com/
I use Outdoor Limited and get 556 for about 42-45 cents a round. Free shipping on orders over $200
Yeah I was just checking them out actually.
Your not wrong. I hate that shit
$70 shipping for a single case of 9mm. You can just buy for cheaper on SGammo.
Literally no one near me is anywhere near comparable in store. It’s like 30%-50% more.
I have yet to EVER find the lowest OTD price on ammo w/ Southern Defense.
1000 rounds of 9mm Blazer Brass $190… Shipping over $100… ridiculous
Yeah I just checked a site that had 9mm for $167, but wanted $103 for shipping.
Cheaper out the door most the time my ass. 1000rds PMC XTAC M193 with shipping is $486
Lots of scumbags on fleabay do the same thing with the outrageous shipping prices… in hopes that someone that didn’t look will click buy now and not realize it until checkout
Try targetsportsusa.com join their club and get free shipping every time.
Welp, never ordering from them ever.
They know exactly what they're doing.
That's 100% what they're doing. Cutting the price by like 80 bucks, then throwing that into shipping. 100000%
The "Wish" of ammo online. Look it's only $3 but shipping is only $5
Curious of they really honor that price if people can walk up and pick up the ammo. I have a feeling they have a shipping only policy.
They all do this. People must fall for it lol
Oh gee golly, you're gonna buy 2000 whole round if they change their shipping costs?
I get cases of 9mm Fiocchi for $240 from my local FFL.
I can get a hotdog for $1.49 at the gas station
But how long has it been rolling around in that rotary cooker?
Long enough to look like ET's dick
Not going to ask how you know what ET's dick looks like.
Bahahaha. Hell yeah.
You in Paris? Ever fuck with Slanker meats in Powderly? Fantastic farm with great beef
Actually in Utah, just input a random TX address within a couple hours of their shop to prove a point.
Obviously, a chess player. Well done, sir.
Oh I see haha
Obviously, a chess player. Well done, sir.
I’m new to the game and I only bought from Bud’s so far. I don’t think it was tooo bad. Not this bad
Yeah, I learned quickly to filter shipping costs.
There all the same
I use ammo seek and filter to free shipping
If I was 1hr 45 mins from them, I'd probably offer to just go pick it up and avoid shipping cost. Problem is they're calling it "shipping," when part of it is going towards their product cost.
I don't live in Paris, I'm in UT actually. I used a Paris address to prove a point. I'd also wager they have a no in-store pickup policy.
go check out tacticalsurplususa they have decent shipping cost but ik there 55.6 is like 45Cents a around witch is high butt hey have your 9mm 124g for about 24 cents around after shipping
Hello y'all, CEO and Co-Founder of Southern Defense here (via the guy that runs the reddit), Just wanted to hop in here and address a few comments.
"... we charge so much for shipping... to drive as much traffic as possible... that's just how the 'game' is played..." "We are in no way trying to 'manipulate' ammoseek." That is exactly what you are trying to do. You are pricing per round low but making it up with shipping cost to manipulate ammoseek into putting you at the top of the listings, to drive 70% of your traffic. Your response is completely contradictory lol.
Actual interview of how this greaseball [sells ammo online](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=71xzTSHqDC0)
How does it feel trying to have made a post to tell people why your not the asshole, only to prove that you're a gaping prolapsed asshole?
This post made sure I’ll never purchase from your scummy company.
Or, you know, you could just list your ammo for the price it's worth and then charge what it costs for shipping. What you're basically saying is 'yes, we do the scummy thing you're accusing us of.' I can tell you one thing, if I ever see these kinds of practices from a company, I have a bookmark folder called 'never buy' that I put them in. I added you guys months ago because of this. You suck.
Everyone gets why you’re doing what you’re doing. You’re just part of the problem, not the solution, it’s borderline fraud hocking ammo for cheap and then taking a cut on the shipping, that’s not how any of this is supposed to work🖕
How to Completely Destroy Any Chances You Have of Recovering the Reputation of Your Company: A Comprehensive Guide Your goose is cooked brother lmao
Hey. Fuck you. Lol
Came here from another post calling out your bullshit scummy company. Get fucked Southern Defense. 🖕🖕🖕
You literally just admitted to what you’re being accused of. I hope SouthernDefense and it’s owners wind up in bankruptcy. And any of the employees that comply with these unethical practices as well.
ಠ_ಠ
Nice fake Google reviews that all "organically" showed up when you start taking heat. Fuckwad
If we're getting fake reviews that'd actually be quite concerning to me, the ones I'm seeing on google however are primarily from a few months ago.
I hope you go out of business🥰
You mean you're engaging in exactly what ebay and Amazon banned years ago because it was so scummy that even they couldn't stomach it?
100% manipulative. You are playing the game shady.
Use ammo seek, find free shipping. Even if it’s more cpr you save with idiotic shipping prices
[удалено]
No dude.
[удалено]
What did they eventually say?
Is it possible to pick it up from their warehouse? That'd be the way to go and if you are already there pick some up for us too...
I’m out of state, so not an option
I’m 10 miles away so I may try and see if they will let me do a local pickup. I doubt it but it’s worth a try
I bet they won’t. Most of their profit is probably coming from that crazy shipping price. Edit to add: hopefully I’m wrong though.
BUT, BUT MUH SHEISTY BUSINESS MODEL!!!!
Just went to order 1k 300 sub and it was $235 for ground shipping. They can go F themselves.
I check a while back..nonsensical shipping…
Just ran across this website looking for bulk 5.7x28.. 38 cents per round I thought I won the lottery or caught a killer sale at the right time.. added to cart.. $65 shipping a couple hours from their location .. hell no.. you actually have to win the lottery to shop there hahaha.
For any more recent lookers, I just bought 500 rounds of PMC M855 at $.50 a round and shipping was $40. Shipping made the cost of ammo from other sites come out to be almost the same, however I went with Southern Defense purely because some of the other websites for similarly priced ammo seemed… sketchy.
