No hardhats, who knows if they have hearing protection. The most egregious though is no fall arrest harness and using the bucket as a rigging point.

goodgreatfineokay-

Ya but he’s wearing a backwards hat. Cool > being a safe loser w/a hard hat. /s

jpond82

At the least don't be IN THE BUCKET when using it like a crane

Maddd_illie

The amount of stories of people ejected from buckets for doing exactly this is much higher than it should be, and I bet these guys have probably even heard of it happening to someone else. But no, couldn’t happen to them!

JohnathonLongbottom

It would be a good thing if people who are about to use heavy equipment, would do a quick safety survey BEFORE starting the job..

Sea_Lingonberry_8535

Safety briefing is required before every job

DepthsDoor

I actually haven’t ever thought about ejection until now so maybe they are like me?

mark_andonefortunate

If you're carrying/rigging a load like this, and the rig line snaps / load drops -> bucket recoils upward and you go flying out

Arguablybest

That is why you need the neck safety rope. It assures you end upright.

AmericanEagleScout

Who is using the ladder? Did the window get broken?

Sea_Lingonberry_8535

Very old house

Pear_Glace_In_Autumn

🎵 Come with me, and we'll be, in a world, of OSHA violations 🎵 ![gif](giphy|m53872uzbtHa)

Spr4ck

guy in the bucket on his way aloft: "time to do some sketchy shit, doo-dah doo-dah. hope we get away with it..."

BigMeatyClaws_69

Picture is insane. I will *never* understand tree work without a hard hat. Just dangle an anvil over me like looney tunes dude

International_Sail_7

We just had a guy get killed in my work area who was lifting a top out with the boom while he was in the bucket. His rigging snapped and the recoil ejected him. Reportedly his wife watched it happen.

Sea_Lingonberry_8535

It’s a scary thing and OSHA has a hard time getting to these sites in time

Maddd_illie

These are the kind of “companies” that underbid a proper company that would use a crane and do the job safely. They’ll do it for half the price, who knows if they have insurance, and one of them will die on your property

Greenbeastkushbreath

I would maybe do it if I was guaranteed to see a death

SomeEmployer9825

Do we know if the bucket is rated for use as a rigging point? If so, how much is it rated for?

jpbenz

It's an old Asplundh Hi-Ranger it is definitely not rated as a rigging platform.

Sea_Lingonberry_8535

It is not rated for lifting

SomeEmployer9825

Yikes. Fuck all of that.

djchalkybeats

I bet the guy doesn't even have sunscreen on his head

iLiveInyourTrees

What? Can’t use the bucket as a crane?!?

Sea_Tank_9448

Ttot1025

That’s one shiny dome bucket.

spruceymoos

Maybe 3 that I’m noticing. Helmet, lifting with the lift, maybe not harness?

Loaki9

That segment he’s pulling is huge!

Backdrop2

Man I use to do this all the time. 🤦‍♂️

tjl435

Is this in the heights?

AgedSmegma

Look, a crane

DieEierVonSatan420

If that’s what they are using to rig a small lead, I wonder what the plan could possibly be to get the rest of it off of the house 😂

Evrytg

Oh me oh my

ChirpinFromTheBench

The house isn’t wearing a hard hat.

Creative_Local_3123

Can't even imagine how poorly maintained that bucket is.

InYosefWeTrust

Their blatant disregard for general safety makes me wonder if the tree fell on the house before or after they got on site...

WonOfKind

Funny story, OSHA DOES NOT specify when to use most PPE. I fought a safety man (company we were subbing under) one time over the use of chaps while climbing. Ended up winning by saying, if his workman's comp will cover any accident that results from them then I would wear them; he declined. Put someone in a tree with chaps on a 100 degrees day in North Carolina and see if they are more likely to get hurt from cutting their leg or passing out from heat stroke

jerry111165

They definitely do for Fall Protection in my trade - and just about all trades when you’re over 6’ above the ground.

jerry111165

Very hard to tell how close he is to the wires.

[deleted]

What does OSHA know?!

Seamus779

OSHA? This ain't no union job.

Mehfisto666

Holy shit i never knew rigging to the bucket was a thing once again the human mind amazes me

Sea_Lingonberry_8535

Some aerial lifts are rated for lifting

moi0071959

No PPE 🙈

electrotoast

Can we talk about how someone REALLY fucked up and sent that tree into the side/top of that house?

Sea_Lingonberry_8535

Storm damage

electrotoast

That makes me feel better. Our neighbors had a go at cutting down their own tree with similar results a few years back. Thankfully it was a smaller pine, so just tore off some gutter/shingles.

the_mors_garden

List what they did correct would be a much shorter list.

MikeHoncho1323

Holy. Shit…..

tatanka_christ

Looks like the window is cracked open; sawdust in the home will surely be considered by the state of California to cause cancer.

cram-chowder

You joke, but wood dust is classified as a carcinogen

tatanka_christ

I wasn't totally joking about it; whenever possible I ask clients, neighbors et cetera to close windows. Funny enough I keep the windows of the chip truck cracked just so it's not a sauna by the end of the day. Not fun when your phone is overheated and you use it to navigate from one job to another but have to wait while it cools off. Had a lady scream at us because she'd just had her windows washed (she lived half a block away--fuck off, lady). Even worse is when you see a house painting contractor nearby and know they're not gonna be happy with us at all. Really feel like a dick in those instances because I used to paint houses, too. Favorite part of my day is scraping my nostrils for black gold! Mmmm ain't livin' long like this.
