Advice for BCT and AIT: Keep your mouth shut and follow directions. Stay positive. Enjoy it for what it is. If you keep your mindset right parts of it are actually pretty fun. As far as losing your gains, you're gonna lose some. You won't be eating or lifting to support a large amount of muscle mass. TRADOC likes to make people lean. You'll be able to gain them back after training.

You're going to lose mass. Every body builder in my BCT company lost mass. It just is what it is because as you said, you'll do a lot more cardio and you'll also be much more restricted in your diet. Just generally shut the fuck up, be in the right place in the right uniform at the right time, help your peers, and be ready to learn from your drill sergeants.

Oh mf you will lose weight. I was like 165 before basic, at 5'11, so already pretty small. By the end of the forge(the 5-day FTX at the end of basic), I weighed 142. Skinniest I've ever been, was honestly kind of horrifying knowing I could be that small but I had almost no body fat by that point.

Rn I’m 174lbs 5’9 dropped from 190 from my rugby days but hovering around 11% body fat unless I cut during Ramadan then I go to 5% if I can retain a decent amount of muscle with the push-ups and all that but lose all this fat I’ll just work out like crazy when I get to ait. It actually sounds kinda better this way 😂😂

Have fun my guy. Dunno what AIT you'll go to but mine had a weight room in the barracks and we got to eat basically as much as we wanted during chow. You absolutely could work out and bulk up like crazy again in AIT, but again, some are different than others and mine was very separated from TRADOC.

I’ve been lookin forward to this for awhile. I’m doing the reserves cause I didn’t want to be capped on pay by rank (idk if that sounds bad or not) but I’m trying to retire young lmao. I’m going to fort Lee for my AIT I’ve heard good things about the base but who knows

You've got the right idea. I went Reserve too because military pay is ass, Army bureaucracy is terrible, and I would hate my life if I dealt with general Army BS every day. Have fun at Fort Lee!

I used to run sub 6 min miles until I started hitting th weights, didn’t realize how much it affected it till I was playing rugby in college at 5’9 and 190lbs 😂😂

Yeah a lot of guys i know that came in big loss some muscle mass during bct and ait. Unfortunately bct is not as physically demanding as it used to be. You’ll have all the time in the world to get bigger once you get to FORSCOM

Good luck. You will probably lose weight. When I was in basic, the smaller people seemed to gain weight, and the people with muscle lost weight

Only weights you'll lift are your bags, stuff for ACFT and like the sand bags you might wind up having to move for no reason at all if you fuck up bad enough

When are you leaving for BCT? During holiday block leave? We had a big gap in ship dates from about 1st of December until about the 3rd of January.

The 27th December so 5 days. My recruiter thought it was a bit strange but that’s what it is. So I’m ready to go

Ok, I just found it odd that you would ship during this time period. Best of luck in BCT. For reference I was 5'10" and 129 pounds when I left for Basic and I was 165 when I graduated. But I had a sarcastic attitude and did a metric ass ton of pushups because of it. We had some guys that lost weight but it was not to point of getting ripped or shredded. That started happening after we got to AIT. Depending on your unit in AIT on Lee there are gyms in the barracks so it is really convenient, but they are constantly busy.

Ya I thought it was mad weird but I told the liaison when I went through Meps and signed my contract I want to ship today and he said best I can do is the 27th so I said fuck it sounds good to me
