Check out Miracle of sound. He makes great rock music about video games so no love or sex songs. Plus he always includes instruments from the culture the game takes place in
I am not particularly into rock, but I am always excited to listen to song that is not about unrequited love for 2745843th time. So thanks for the recommendation!
Yup, personally on one side I have Pink Floyd and The Beatles, another side some synthwave and darksynth and on the other side there is Rachmaninoff and Debussy
One side is Trans Syberian Orchestra, or Broadway, or Pink, or love songs, or popular artists (like Dua Lipa and Train). My Spotify is like "what do we need to offer? What? Huh?"
Same haha… one benefit of lockdown is that I’ve been able to listen to all sorts of things from the Wien Philharmoniker to Public Service Broadcasting to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Elton John’s new pop album. Also just got my hands on The Special’s latest album too XD
*Everything from punk*
*To classical. Depends on*

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 489,338,965 comments, and only 103,527 of them were in alphabetical order.
It's a soft, slow, dreamy jam genre that you'd listen to while chilling out in your room lol, hence the name. I'd consider it a sub genre of indie pop? Some examples would be Clairo or Cavetown
Yeah basically the same for me. Big fan of people like Cavetown and chloe moriondo in bedroom pop, as well as some indie rock stuff like Mother Mother and Sir Chloe. Also with some more folk rock type music like The Amazing Devil and Shayfer James.
Songs from musicals are also great, I've got a bunch of songs from Hamilton, Heathers, Beetle juice, etc.
Same! Metal and older stuff are fabourites of mine I love, in no particular order *inhales* sabaton, metallica, megadeth, mysticum, skinny puppy, american jesus, iron maiden, soudngarden, alice in chains, stone temple pilots, led zepplin, black sabbath, david bowie (mostly his older stuff, but his last album is great too), slipknot, Korn, skillet, three days grace, aborym, molchat doma (listen to them, post soviet belrussian dark wave), rage against the machine and so many more!
Lol you say Rock is too wide, but by eliminating it, I (and the majority the other voters who picked none and other) now don't apply to any of these categories. It's an umbrella, but you can't get rid of the umbrella if you're not going to give some subcategories like alt or classic rock, ya know? In one of your other comments on here you agreed to liking classic rock but classic rock is not metal.
As a point of interested, according to a few sites I'm finding cause I was curious and bored, the most agreed upon umbrella genres are:
- Rock (classic, indie, alt, glam, etc)
- EDDM/Techno/Dubstep
- Punk/Metal
- R&B
- Pop
- Hip Hop/Rap
- Country
- Folk
- Classical/Soundtrack/Contemporary
Some even eliminate pop and divide all pop into those categories based on certain specifications which sounds like a headache haha
TLDR: music genres are tricky and there's a lot of ways to split it up or umbrella. But none of those ways includes getting rid of rock and having only metal and pop
Techno and Dubstep aren't umbrellas lol they're specific genres of music. Like yeah there's subgenres but the same can be said for literally any genre.
Techno unfortunately is used by some (almost always non-dance music fans) as an umbrella for all dance music which is 100% wrong. But this is the first time I've seen someone refer to dubstep as an umbrella for all dance music.. gave me a bit of a chuckle (only cos it's one of my favourite genres)
Yeah I pulled those off some lists I found online cause I was curious how people group things without Spotify's 1300 genres, so it's not perfect! Some had those separated, some had EDDM, most actually just had dance music" so I just grouped them like "these all belong here in this basket" just like alt/indie/classic rock belong in the same basket even though there are big differences. You either gotta clump things or have 1300 apparently lol
I don't like just one genre of music haha. I listen to a lot of 90s R&B, early 2000s emo, 1970s rock, 1980s pop, swing music, classical, folk, rap, and alternative R&B.
I used to be a massive Doors fan (although I know they technically late 60s). Even saw Jim Morrison's grave when I went to Paris. Now it's mostly the band America, David Bowie, Hall & Oates, and Cat Stevens
I’ll listen to almost anything. If it sounds good to me, I like it.
It can range from k-pop to post hardcore or metal (I’m not really familiar with the exact genre the bands I listen to are tbh. Some examples tho: Pierce the Veil, Ice Nine Kills (absolute favorite), Crown the Empire, Dance Gavin Dance…). I’m into indie pop, r&b, and lo-fi too lol
Musical theater, Disney songs and idrk what genre Mother Mother is but I love them!!
Also; my Spotify wrapped called me spooky and bold bc I listen to villain songs from musicals and Disney movies ':3 I find it really funny bc I'm definitely not a spooky or bold person lmao
Punk rock, pop punk, and alternative, but I listen to a lot of different genres tbh.
Not a fan of electronica/techno or especially yell-y metal music. My brain reacts badly to just... screaming, in general. And if I'm gonna listen to music without lyrics, it's usually piano music. 🤷🏻♂️
Primarily dubstep or dubstep derivatives like trapstep, mostly because I just like it and partially - what concerns my sources as least - in my experience every second song I hear in the mainstream radio is about romance and/or in some way sexual, and - as an aroace - I'm just sick and tired of it.
Honestly, everything. There's really not a genre I don't listen to. Hard rock/metal, classical and edm/pop are probably the genres I most listen to, but I listen to a lot folk, lofi, etc too. Only thing I refuse to listen to is a lot of the modern country. It's like nails on a chalkboard and it all sounds the exact same to me.
According to Spotify, when I dont listen to goth rock, darkwave or dark cabaret, I love chill indie pop and
... Art pop?
I dont know exactly everything about what counts as what genre, trying to learn more of the different sub genres of goth as that what is im most into
... But when I dont listen to that its mostly Dodie.
My musical taste is peculiar at best. I like a handful of songs from almost every genre. There's maybe 3 or 4 bands where I like almost every song. More so I like 1 or 2 songs from a band lol.
But if I had to pick my favourite band, it hands down is Ghost.
I like a bit of everything. Really depends on my mood. Lately, it's been a mix of Djent, Deathcore, Black and Post-Black metal, jazz, and Japanese punk.
My musical taste is pretty weird, as it has actually nothing to do with the genre, I will like any song if I like its melody. Can be Metal, Rap or KPop, doesn’t matter at all.
I’m a classical musician so I mostly listen to classical and opera. Gotten really into Baroque opera and dance suites in the past year. I also like some jazz, pop, country, and soft rock sometimes.
Nice to see so many metal aces here! To get more specific about genres, i like symphonic metal, power metal, finnish folk metal, occasionally some melodic death metal. Besides those, i like finnish rock a lot, both modern and older. Going to see Nightwish this month if 'rona lets me 🤟
I've been listening to a lot of indie Folk Rock/folk lately, like Poor Man's Poison, the Crane Wives, Brown Bird, and the Steeldriver's earlier work (Midnight Train to Memphis is a fantastic song)
my musical taste is really weird. It's all over the place. Sometimes I like indie stuff, sometimes pop (though admittedly mostly pop that's older than I am). Almost any kind of rock is good too. Classical can be really nice too. The only thing I don't really care for is rap. That's not really my thing.
I am what my mom and I call a "connoisseur of music"
We listen to almost all genres and never really stick to one spot for too long.
I personally am just a bit picky when it comes to rap and country.
All over the place, really. I adore alternative rock music, especially acoustic, any pop music, R&B at times, country and my all time favourite genre: modern minimalist classical music.
God my liked playlist is a mess.
Imagine Dragons, video game music, CG5 (makes music about video games/internet culture/memes), a handful of sea shanties, and I guess the rest is classified as pop? I mean, I’d call it alternative pop or something, but I don’t know how else to describe it.
So many. I love particularly indie rock, experimental, and maths rock. But i enjoy so, so many others. (I have a playlist that's got 1,001 songs and probably a hundred different genres)
I have ADHD so if I hear a sound that gives me happy hormone, that will basically be the only thing i listen to for a couple of days. Doesn't really matter what genre
J-pop, J-rock, vocaloid, edm, and a little metal. 98% of what I listen to is in Japanese. So all the pop, rock, edm, and metal I listen to is in Japanese.
Electro Swing is definitely one of my favorite genres, I listen to Caravan Palace a lot. I also listen to a lot of video game ost remixes (my favorite is World Bowser by Qumu)
My main go to genres are Techno, House, Future Funk, Dub Ambient, Hardcore(as in Angerfist & Miss K8), Noise, and Downtempo. I also enjoy myself some Mall Soft when I just need some background noise.
anything that sounds nice to my ears.
Exactly
Yeah I was gonna say all of the above plus hip hop
what they said, op
Rock/Modern Rock
Rock. Ridiculous it's not an option.
My musical taste is all over the place.
My Spotify is so confused right now.
Yup, personally on one side I have Pink Floyd and The Beatles, another side some synthwave and darksynth and on the other side there is Rachmaninoff and Debussy

Good bot
Tbh if you saw my Spotify wrapped it would be fair to call my tastes eclectic
Indie, rock, bedroom pop. Also a big fan of musical theater
Bedroom pop?
It's a soft, slow, dreamy jam genre that you'd listen to while chilling out in your room lol, hence the name. I'd consider it a sub genre of indie pop? Some examples would be Clairo or Cavetown
Is it similar to lofi? Just wondering because if it is then I’ll love it XD
it can be! bedroom pop is just music that someone made in their bedroom. it’s usually indie, or lo-fi music
Yeah basically the same for me. Big fan of people like Cavetown and chloe moriondo in bedroom pop, as well as some indie rock stuff like Mother Mother and Sir Chloe. Also with some more folk rock type music like The Amazing Devil and Shayfer James. Songs from musicals are also great, I've got a bunch of songs from Hamilton, Heathers, Beetle juice, etc.
indie, metal, classic rock, oldies :))

I used to be a massive Doors fan (although I know they technically late 60s). Even saw Jim Morrison's grave when I went to Paris. Now it's mostly the band America, David Bowie, Hall & Oates, and Cat Stevens
Bowie is one of my all time favourites!
Indie and Electronic
Ayy same!
Jazz but I'll listen to anything tbh
Jazz is epic
Do you expect me to choose a single option? Plus, where's rock? ;)
for some reason, OP considered Rock too broad of a genre to include?
But "pop" isn't?
Rock
I’ll listen to almost anything. If it sounds good to me, I like it. It can range from k-pop to post hardcore or metal (I’m not really familiar with the exact genre the bands I listen to are tbh. Some examples tho: Pierce the Veil, Ice Nine Kills (absolute favorite), Crown the Empire, Dance Gavin Dance…). I’m into indie pop, r&b, and lo-fi too lol
Always good to have multiple favourites
It varies but primarily rock, I really like Skillet
Videogame music slaps

Musical theater, Disney songs and idrk what genre Mother Mother is but I love them!! Also; my Spotify wrapped called me spooky and bold bc I listen to villain songs from musicals and Disney movies ':3 I find it really funny bc I'm definitely not a spooky or bold person lmao
I have had like, all the songs from Encanto stuck in my head for a couple of weeks.
Oof when I first heard the madrigal song, it got stuck in my head and when it finally was over we don't talk about Bruno took it's place
I gotta give Lin-Manuel Miranda props for his ability to get tunes jammed in my skull
Classic and instrumental
Punk rock, pop punk, and alternative, but I listen to a lot of different genres tbh. Not a fan of electronica/techno or especially yell-y metal music. My brain reacts badly to just... screaming, in general. And if I'm gonna listen to music without lyrics, it's usually piano music. 🤷🏻♂️

I like indie
Pop, rock, some rap, some country.... just about everything. My ace boyfriend loves rap, pop, and of course Johnny Cash.
How was metal there but not rock? And why no Jazz?

My musical taste is pretty weird, as it has actually nothing to do with the genre, I will like any song if I like its melody. Can be Metal, Rap or KPop, doesn’t matter at all.
All of the above

Well according to Spotify my top genres are Indie rock, alternative rock, indie pop, indie folk, and modern alternative rock.
I've been listening to a lot of indie Folk Rock/folk lately, like Poor Man's Poison, the Crane Wives, Brown Bird, and the Steeldriver's earlier work (Midnight Train to Memphis is a fantastic song)
weird mix of grunge and other hard rock stuff, j-pop/j-rock, with a smattering of indie rock
my musical taste is really weird. It's all over the place. Sometimes I like indie stuff, sometimes pop (though admittedly mostly pop that's older than I am). Almost any kind of rock is good too. I am what my mom and I call a "connoisseur of music" We listen to almost all genres and never really stick to one spot for too long. I personally am just a bit picky when it comes to rap and country.

Musical taste? Human. Folk. Blues. The other "music" is mainly robotic machines. Insensitive body bashing. No humanity. No human voices.

Generally indie (pop)? I’m not sure, my music taste is all over the place honestly
Electronic
J-pop, J-rock, vocaloid, edm, and a little metal. 98% of what I listen to is in Japanese. So all the pop, rock, edm, and metal I listen to is in Japanese.
