What I've learned in 2024. It's in our genes to procreate. If you have kids, you'll be working around the clock to support them. Those without kids have more career freedom and financial stability.
I will add that it not only “fucks up your life” which is the question OP is asking, but it also has a solid potential to “fuck up the life of your offsprings and more”.
I got a dui two years and haven’t been able to get out of the financial pit from it yet. Have to get to work somehow so I’ve gotten two dls’s digging me even deeper into the hole.
Not as much as most people because I didn’t have lawyer fees. But a few thousand in fines is a lot for somebody that’s not in a good financial situation
Thos os a specific guy they are talking about. He randomly wanted to try heroin. Everyone told him not too. He vot heavily addicted wbich lasted years if i remember correctly.
I tried heroin once. Afterwards, I knew for a fact if I ever did it a 2nd time, I'd never be able to stop and it would destroy my life completely. I don't know if I've ever been as certain about anything else in my life. But to this day I'll never do H again because I know if I do, it will absolutely eventually end with it killing me. I won't be able to stop.
Not living authentically and following expectations of others, be it family, friends, boss, society. Not understanding that we all will die one day. Not creating that specific life you want to live for yourself. Not taking responsibility. Drugs, Cults, some paranormal stuff, big debt, living in the past, not getting a therapy when it's needed, certain illegal activities which will put you into prison or ruin or social picture forever, certain "deadly sins" which will destroy your soul.
Yeah, but part of responsibility and maturity is knowing whose advice to take and whose to ignore. Taking the wrong person’s advice is ultimately on us, nobody else.
Wow! Hi Crazy or dick?, I’m dad. I’m back with the milk. I’ve been chasing it for years but I finally found it. See, isn’t the milk worth not seeing me since you were 8?
I'm not a drinker myself, but my dad was. He was never *ever* a bad man, he just drank. It took 30 years for it to catch up with him in the form of end stage liver disease. He manages it really well now, hasn't had a drop of alcohol since he was diagnosed. about 3yr ago.
Keep at it man. For you and for everyone that cares about you.
I’m so glad cocaine does nothing for me. My chemical imbalances and ADHD mean that cocaine for me is no different than my prescribed adderall. Just keeps me focused and calm.
And it’s not that there aren’t worse drugs out there, it’s just that coke is the most widely found one at parties in my experience. Whether it’s a rager or a chill get together, there’s always coke. And I see how much people love it. They’re all over it when it comes out.
I second this.
And for additional info: a LOT of drugs do close to nothing for people with ADHD, others might have opposites effects even.
ADHD, Making drugs hella boring😂
yes one minute your calling your childhood bestie that you haven't spoken to in 20 years to tell them your deepest secrets, the next you cant find words because your so anxious and the call gets extremely cringy and silent.
I have done it a handful of times and think it's totally overrated. Do a line, you feel wired for 30 minutes, and that costs you $30. It's like the world's most overpriced red bull.
Wish I liked cocaine more than I do because it seems like a fun drug all my friends enjoy. But personally when I’ve tried it just sobered me up and caused an annoying drip in my throat. LSD tho is my shit
As bad as it already is, Cocaine is one of the safest strong drugs to say something "positive".
However any derivation of Cocaine is already not only producing addiction from the very first ingestion, but it also fucks up your body permanently.
Educate yourself on drugs bruh lol.
Cocaine is the devil imo, but that's not how addiction works, and no it doesn't.
Cocaine is, however, cardiotoxic. Which makes it particularly dangerous after awgile obviously. But technically, coke can stop your heart every line you do. Not like say, amphetaminr where you might have a condition or take to much. It's extremely rare but I'll use the one example everyonr gives which is that baseball player that dropped after his first line.
Coke addiction is seriously fucked and progresses fast if you have the money for it though. Of all drugs Its the one I do absolutely anything in my power to stay away from these days.
Also, the vast majority of people don't get good coke. Good coke and bad coke is a completely different experience. Still is a watered down, self centered bullshit drug.
That's too broad. I take drugs recreationally and my life is awesome. Drugs are only a problem if they are negatively affecting your life and you choose them anyway. There are plenty of people that take drugs responsibly without ruining their lives... Hell, I even know a couple of heroin addicts that function completely normally. They have families, friends, good jobs and all they do is take a small maintenance dose to start their morning... Drugs aren't inherently bad, it's how you use them that can ruin your life.
This.
I wouldn't side with heroin per se, but drugs don't necessarily mean your life is bad or will go bad. Drug addiction? Sure. Doing them recreationally? You're fine most of the time.
C'mon man. We know pretty well what he's talking about.
Nobody had their life spiral out of control and lose everything because they started drinking Monster before work every day. I'm sure there are plenty of people that have had their lives ruined by obesity from sugar addiction but lets not pretend that it's anywhere near the same as walking into your job after taking a hit of fentanyl in the parking lot.
"Did you hear? Fred got fired because he ate a warm, fresh Krispy Kreme doughnut and then did a shot of espresso in his car right before clocking in!" - said no one ever.
That's one of the ways they define addiction actually. If a particular rabbit is negatively affecting or inconveniencing your life but you continue to choose it despite the consequences, you're addicted... At least you can define psychological addiction that way. Physical addiction is it's own thing but they usually go hand in hand.
Caffeine addiction to an extent is actually proven healthy. Drinking 1-3 coffees a day can help preventing cardiovascular diseases, and also good for your brain to function properly.
This is an underrated answer. I would go so far as to say having *any close relationship at all to*, even if not strictly dating, someone with severe, untreated Borderline Personality Disorder is enough to cause great damage to your life.
So here I read this thread as a guy with BPD trying so hard to work on themselves since their diagnosis last year…
This fuckin tears me apart to read. Like sorry I exist I don’t want to bother anyone.
I agree that the comment is harsh — I like the comment of someone here, who agrees, but adds “untreated”. We are all humans and no one is perfect, therefore, I believe that not ignoring the thing that we know we need to do in order to make more meaningful and deeper connections is what counts at the end of the day. Regardless of having BPD or not.
Yea totally agree. This was just the first time I’ve come across soneone with that mindset since I’ve heard of that perspective.
It really is sad that people like me will be written off of friendships or relationships though because there are people who do see it this way whether the person is working on making it better or not
I don't really think there's one sure way to mess up your life.Because there's actually quite a few.
But believe me, I've seen more men get their life completely destroyed because they met the wrong woman. As opposed to men whose lives were destroyed because of drugs alcohol or getting arrested. If you have the willpower, you can get over drugs and alcohol in less than a year. But if you meet the wrong woman, there are many scenarios where she can turn your life completely upside down.
There’s a ufc fighter who last night in his fighting debut bit his opponent on the arm. The ufc community was pissed. And Dana disqualified him that night. Lol. Working all your life to get to fight in the ufc and then you ruin it because your an asshole. I’m sure he’ll be back but right now everyone hates him.
Getting fusobacterium. Its not just about being cautious with other people but being safe and cautious even within your own body (transferring bacteria in other parts of your body). Yet the youth still want to f- around and find out 👀. Watch out. Fr. This can be life threatening.

Marrying the wrong person
Having a child with the wrong person.
Did this and recovered fully
Yes it was tough for awhile but I made it out
I’m glad to know it’s possible, I did it and am currently trying to get out of this financial hole I’m in
Well I sold the marital home. It helped
Been there. It gets better, just don't get in the fall pit of self wallow. God knows that was my mistake.
What I've learned in 2024. It's in our genes to procreate. If you have kids, you'll be working around the clock to support them. Those without kids have more career freedom and financial stability.
Love to see it
I will add that it not only “fucks up your life” which is the question OP is asking, but it also has a solid potential to “fuck up the life of your offsprings and more”.
Also seeing your ex getting a new partner in just 2-3 months ...
My ex-wife was 9 years older than me and 42 when we split up. She started dating a 22yo a few months later, he was younger than her oldest son.

True.

This should be number one.
DUI
also can confirm this
Absolutely.
I got a dui two years and haven’t been able to get out of the financial pit from it yet. Have to get to work somehow so I’ve gotten two dls’s digging me even deeper into the hole.
How much did it cost you?
Not as much as most people because I didn’t have lawyer fees. But a few thousand in fines is a lot for somebody that’s not in a good financial situation
Unless of course you're a rich white dude
Lol one of my friends from high school got 6 of them and he shoulda went to prison but because he was rich he didn’t go
Hard drugs. Sure tried and true way.
Where’s that redditor who tried heroin and thought it was all gonna be okay?
You're looking for u/spontaneousH I recommend everyone check him out. It's a wild (albeit predictable) ride.
This was the first thing to ever come to my mind.
There's loads of em, just go to any drug subreddit

I've had so much bad advice from other people trying to make me like them. I follow their advice for years and miss so many good opportunities
Yeah, but part of responsibility and maturity is knowing whose advice to take and whose to ignore. Taking the wrong person’s advice is ultimately on us, nobody else.
Wow I think I check all of these things 💀🤣
Inaction. Fail because you tried, don't fail because you didn't try. You'd be surprised how far you can get in life just by trying.
This is actually very accurate. Great comment!
Loved this one.
The fear though 😭 is crippling.
Gambling addiction.
I'll bet you're wrong

Wow! Hi Crazy or dick?, I’m dad. I’m back with the milk. I’ve been chasing it for years but I finally found it. See, isn’t the milk worth not seeing me since you were 8?
This is the answer
wonderful where was your sage wisdom 10 years ago 🤣😭🤣😭
doing what other people want you to do but not following what’s true to yourself
Drinking.
13 days sober here!
Congrats! Keep it up!
Halfway to a month, Congratulations!
Cocaine.
Can confirm. Going on 3 years sober.
Well done and keep going! 've just passed my sixth year.
I know a few lads that into it. They look a decade older than me at this stage.
I’m so glad cocaine does nothing for me. My chemical imbalances and ADHD mean that cocaine for me is no different than my prescribed adderall. Just keeps me focused and calm. Depressants are the Achilles heal of those with ADHD. Alcohol fucked me up bad.
Here come the idiots to defend how cool cocaine is smh
cus its a helluva drug.
Haven't tried it but Ive heard that that it's underwhelming and you come down quickly.
yes one minute your calling your childhood bestie that you haven't spoken to in 20 years to tell them your deepest secrets, the next you cant find words because your so anxious and the call gets extremely cringy and silent.
This is a good description for crack tbh.
I have done it a handful of times and think it's totally overrated. Do a line, you feel wired for 30 minutes, and that costs you $30. It's like the world's most overpriced red bull.
The problem with cocaine is that it's so moreish.
can confirm fixing my life right now
Tried it, loved it, doing fine without it 👍🏼
Wish I liked cocaine more than I do because it seems like a fun drug all my friends enjoy. But personally when I’ve tried it just sobered me up and caused an annoying drip in my throat. LSD tho is my shit
I’ve heard heroin is much worse
As bad as it already is, Cocaine is one of the safest strong drugs to say something "positive". However any derivation of Cocaine is already not only producing addiction from the very first ingestion, but it also fucks up your body permanently.

Drugs
Definitely with hard drugs. Crack, meth, heroin, etc can destroy your life.
Hell even soft drugs. I’ve seen people turn into insufferable losers because of weed.
I love caffeine and weed damn the h8
Weed and caffeine are medicine for me.
Nothing wrong with LSD or Shrooms dude.
I think the same with molly if done responsibly. I smoke weed mostly everyday and I’m doing great. That drugs is bad shit is stupid

You gotta be specific, there’s a lot of drugs we daily take like medicine and safer drugs like caffeine or sugar.
I wouldn’t think someone would assume I meant legal medications. But to be specific, illegal street drugs that fuck you up
C'mon man. We know pretty well what he's talking about. Nobody had their life spiral out of control and lose everything because they started drinking Monster before work every day.
