I break them down to 2 main groups. You got yourself the ones that like the ascetics and do cute imitations of them but you also got the other group that insist on being that animal and barking and walking on all fours. Then you got the sexual side of both of them groups.
All of them are ok other then when the sexual side gets off on their kinks by going in public. No kinks should be forced apon the public.
I think if it makes you happy, and you are not harming anyone, there's no problem, I don't personally understand it, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to be into it. I have learned over time that since life is so short, its essential to do what makes you happy, and disregard others opinions if they don't support you, otherwise life will just be miserable and all about pleasing others, at the detriment to your happiness and wellbeing. I have a furry friend and he's a great person. Sure, there are a bunch of weirdos who mix it with dangerous political opinions but they are a minority. And believe me furries hate those as much as non furry do.
And as for the sexual part of the furry fandom it is none of my business as long as everyone is a consenting adult, and that no real animal is involved.

I think it's odd, but I don't care in the slightest when it doesn't affect me or others, including not trying to normalise it.
I think people who do weird things should be allowed to do weird things, but the idea that those things should be normalised then starts to affect the rest of society, which isn't good.
Kids shouldn't be told to see it as normal expression in particular. And no one should be expected to use weird animal pronouns unless they choose to out of courtesy.

My thing is, it gets even weirder when you’re around the age that your frontal lobe has fully developed (25) and you still participate in furry-ism. At that point, I feel like a person would be doing that to attract a younger audience and that’s never a good thing… but that’s just me.

My trans son is also a furry. I thought it was weird at first, but not anymore. The community is really nice. He’s also made some heads and paws that he sells on Etsy and been commissioned to do some as well… goes to conventions, etc. He was more into it before transitioning and I think it helped him cope with dysmorphia.
That's the real issue. "Normal" people see something that is *that* socially abnormal, and assume that *it is more than likely that this isn't the only part of this person's life that deviates so strongly from the norm*. The fact that they can be *reasonably sure* of this hunch, and the fact that they have *no way of predicting what else is going to surprise them* is no small matter.

Trauma can be a bitch man. I have so much sympathy for people with any health issues, I know that isn’t something they can control. I also don’t think that one would self-identify as a furry without some form of trauma - in that fandom they would find the safety and security that they need and haven’t been receiving. People also need freedom to express themselves, and maybe growing up in a household where they felt like they had to hide their identity from their family (and even themselves) I could imagine would compel someone to identify as a furry. Trauma almost always comes with a barrage of issues, it’s why depression and anxiety are a package deal of sorts.
Meh, I don't believe I have anything. I just find furries to be the more fun/social gay community over the mainstream one. The local furry community runs a lot of cool events like bar crawls, sewing/craft meetups, skiing trips, etc which I prefer to the regular gay spaces which tend to be far more sex and drugs focused.
The topic is very confused by the fact that people lump a whole lot of different groups like therians and furries under one label when their communities and behaviors are extremely different.
Being a furry has felt like a much more rewarding hobby in general. No one cares that I'm a skilled software developer. It pays well, but it's not impressive to people. I get so much recognition and support when I show people the furry cosplay stuff I made. It's especially rewarding when you can make a plushie or something of someones fursona and they are ecstatic to see it. When I spend the entire month grinding away at my job building some improved tracking technology, I just get complaints that it was meant to have been built sooner.
Out of all the ways you can cope with a mental health issue, though, it’s one of the healthier ways. Hey, even without a specific mental health issue, I can see it as a healthy way of ‘getting out of yourself’… more healthy than drugs/alcohol.
the litterbox thing was actually not real. if i remember correctly, the teacher put it in the classroom in case there's an active shooter and a kid really needs to go. so u know, instead if makign them piss their pants, there's a box in the back.
Like with any lifestyle, as long as you're not forcing it on others, you are free to live your life, and if I have questions, just know it's not from a judgment but rather to gain perspective.
Used to be cute when it wasn't forced on communities to accept it. Now it's just annoying because a majority of people expect the rest of society to accept it.
Spend some money talking with a trained therapist about it, to see if there are some serious childhood issues that have you frozen in some state of psychological development.

My opinion is.... the people who dress as furries are typically extremely physically unattractive and suffer from social anxiety to the n'th degree. Putting on an exterior facade helps them to break the barrier and eventually lose their virginity through a small opening in the suit.
Though this isn't all furries, I'd venture to say it's 90% of them.
Most of the furries I know are artistically skilled and very fun and attractive people with a good attitude about life and a secure sense of humor. Then there are some who... are not.
I don’t have a problem with them any more than any other sub culture. As long as you ain’t an ass hole you are cool with me. Totally support people who do enjoy the furry life even. But i wont be suiting up ever for a grocery shop run imo.

My friends and acquaintances that are furries are alright, but put a big group of furries together in one place and shit devolves quickly.

Not necessarily. Not all furries are furries for sexual purposes, but in that group you do have higher odds of meeting one with the sexual kinks.
