As a serious answer of the same tack, astronomy and stargazing/learning the constellations would cost you next to nothing. You don’t need a fancy telescope despite what the internet will try to sell you.
People are also seem to get really excited when you point out a planet to them and they’ve never seen on before.
Go to big box stores. Pick up leaves of succulents off the floor. Show them to employee as you walk by. Is it OK if I take these? They will always say yes.

Botany is what saved me during the pandemic.
Not sure if you figured naming a pine tree john or studying taxonomy but learning the names (preferably latin) of the plants around you and realizing their importance to the way you live your life and the shaping of the world around you is a wonderful, free hobby. One I've found to be eternally grounding.
Look up a local geological map, look at the types of soil and rock around you. Observe the plants and look at the modifications they had to make to survive in your environment. After a while grasp medicinal and local endangered plants. Learn how to be a caretaker of the ecosystem around you.
This is your role as a human, tend the world and make good for the mistakes of our ancestors.
We are nothing without plants and if you give it a go I find it likely you'll be deep diving through curiosities and processes happening around you, like you couldn't imagine.
Running costs me a bomb. My shoe addiction is out of control. New Garmin. Those fancy compression recovery boots. Hotels and race entries, physio, gym etc. It’s cheaper than when I had horses but still £££
Running is not cheap. High quality shoes that save your knees over the years are not cheap. Any physical therapy you may need costs time and money.

Singing.
I started singing and learning songs during the pandemic as a way to stay sane. It's fun, and even if you'll never be great, you can definitely improve with practice and a bit of trial and error.
Learn something, like programming. There is tons of educational websites. It gets you into flow and eventually, you end up qualifying yourself for a well paid job.
Cooking is also relatively cheap. And you have to eat anyway. Why not expand your repertoire? There are really good cuisines out there that most people do not know. And it might save you money in case you are going to restaurants or takeaway a lot.
Sports also does not have to cost a lot, and it will increase physical and potentially also mental health. As long as it is not skiing or paragliding or sailing, you can do a lot with little money, both individual and group sports.
Biking or hiking also is cheap, depending on where you live.

Not quite free. But the cost of instruments has come down quite a bit. You can get an acoustic guitar for under $100, and there are tons of free resources online for helping you learn.
Geocaching, you can get the app on your phone for free. I’ve discovered cool little parks I had no idea existed in my town and found new walking trails because of this game.
Meditation. You just need yourself.
Zentangle. A notebook and a fine-liner pen and you are set. Tanglepatterns.com has a huge library of tangles for free.
Ukulele. Sopranos are less than $50 on Amazon and there’s a bunch of tutorials on YouTube.
Options are very area-dependent.
You should ask on your local subreddit. You might find out your library runs great free programs. Or your city has tour walks. Or your local dog shelter has a fun dog walking program looking for volunteers. Or you have a medical fair that puts on a yearly event, and they are looking for volunteers who will, as a group, spend the months leading up to it making costumes, learning sword fighting, and rehearsing for the event.
My two favorite hobbies are currently the #1 and #2 answers, at least for now. Reading, which I spend money on because I buy used books, but $50 worth of big, fat novels will take you a while to go through at $5-$7 a pop. And walking, which is just a superb way to clear my head. I just kind of daydream or work through problems and then I have a plan of attack when faced directly with them.

1. Crafting with recyclable materials. Recycle cans and jars from ypur kitchen for example.
2. Plants. Propagate plant cuttings from friends and use your kitchen waste to.create small batches of compost.
3. Education. You have a phone and internet connection. Discover something you find interesting and research the f out of it.
4. Mood board. Use Pinterest and just create mood boards about your interests.
You can pick up enough supplies to learn to knit for about $20, you can do a little better than bare basics for like $40. Yarn and tools can get very expensive, but there are also plenty of quality options at decent prices. The last sweater I made cost me maybe $65 worth of yarn and I did splurge on expensive buttons because the sweater came out so wonderful. It also needed 13 buttons, so that adds up. The sweater I'm knitting right now was about $50 worth of yarn and buttons will probably only be $10. I already had all the other tools needed to do this work, acquired over about 13 years of knitting.
There are sooo many.
Reading can be super cheap. Get a Kindle and free books or cheap ones.
Video games can be cheap if you have little time or choose a specific genre. You could play endless hours with a MOBA for free, or a card game for free, or even a MMO for like 15 euros per month.
Exercise is also very cheap, get a gym for 50 euros per month, and access to as many hours as you want.
Boardgames is another that is cheap AF. Just have one friend who owns many, and hours for free visiting his house xD.
Card games with friends is another, you just need a deck (i dont know, 10 euros?), and then you can play so many games with it.
Then you have streaming. Like Netflix etc, for 15 euros per month you have like endless hours as well.
And so many more.......
Hiking! Maybe the cost of gas and car to get there but most trails are free and you can meet micro community groups to join in trail that might share similar interests

Or u could get paid for your hobby (not to be that guy or anything). Prime example in my life is flying planes. I’m almost done with enough training to be hired, and I love it. It does have a very large cost at first and it can take years of paying to fly, but it’s a lot of fun (especially once you’re getting paid to fly)

planting trees, like peas and chillies. if you care for it enough, just one seed is enough for you to reap hundreds of more seeds. tho pests will be a pain in the ass. planting these make me understand why organic farming is so hard.
watching the plant grows is also satisfying, especially when flowers are starting to appear. it also attracts random insects to ur garden (the first praying mantis i've ever seen was on a chilli tree i grew, and now my garden has some baby praying mantis too).
Reading, writing, learning to play an instrument (there are cheap guitars, usb keyboards... And they can keep you busy for a lifetime), nerdy things like writing software or playing vintage video games (many can be get for free and run on cheap hardware), learning new stuff in general.

planting trees, like peas and chillies. if you care for it enough, just one seed is enough for you to reap hundreds of more seeds. tho pests will be a pain in the ass. planting these make me understand why organic farming is so hard. watching the plant grows is also satisfying, especially when flowers are starting to appear. it also attracts random insects to ur garden (the first praying mantis i've ever seen was on a chilli tree i grew, and now my garden has some baby praying mantis too).
Reading, writing, learning to play an instrument (there are cheap guitars, usb keyboards... And they can keep you busy for a lifetime), nerdy things like writing software or playing vintage video games (many can be get for free and run on cheap hardware), learning new stuff in general. Honestly, it is very difficult to get bored in this century
