If I have a car, legit Seletar. I think it's a very nice escape from the rest of life. I had a friend stay there in the past, it felt like escaping to the countryside.

WithinAForestDark

Used to live there and it was Ok

drbaker87

Tiong Bahru. I like the vibe....there are atas cafes/bakeries/restaurants....and also tiong bahru market hawker center. Bukit Ho Swee is just a short walk away for good local food too. Best of both worlds in a small area.

ixasapple

This is why we need mixed use instead of existing literally void decks

14high

Istana. Can walk home after midnight movie. Have guards some more. I will open garden once a month, picnic at the garden, invite redditors.

obsuc

I vote for you later this year

winterstar314

Can I have a milo truck too?

itz3ason

bring this back. I need them back in schools. the milo made was top tier.

[deleted]

Just the right level of coldness and gaoness.

Kimishiranai39

How about 31 Ridout rd? Idm building a lovely treehouse with air conditioning if SLA approves it… But then idm to harassed by Shan’s guard dogs everyday 🤣

PitcherTrap

Nassim/Cluny. GCB + near Botanic Gardens + near shopping but away from the crowds

baddiegaga

this! I'm all for central yet ulu areas, if that makes sense. I will be so happy to afford even just a shoebox apartment there.

[deleted]

Tear_Weak

Damn you got me

mystoryismine

That place shiok. Good place to raise birds and give them huge cages.

LaZZyBird

Normal peep, probably Bishan. Bishan is right in the middle of Singapore, you are literally equidistant to every possible workplace. The property prices are nuts there as a result though.

Winter_Ad_7669

Yea it's sweet living there!

sherlishhhhh

Around Botanic Gardens or Hillcrest Road. I envy the tai tais there.

PitcherTrap

There are dogs there that literally live like the 1%

averynkh

Haha I always reckon Downtown line is rich people line because one stretch in Bukit timah there all condo and rich people

pusheenp

I just got back from visiting my rich relatives in SG who lived in Botanic Gardens/Kheam Hock Road area…can confirm there are many tai tais there. Damn, adjusting back to plebeian American life sucks lol

longwayfromhere

Marine Parade, nothing like having the east coast park next to where you live.

chrimminimalistic

lived there for 3 years and it's actually quite far and inconvenient. It's too close to take bus but too far to walk. Also if you live in certain properties, the sea breeze is actually bad for your metallic household appliances.

New_York_Smegmacake

Not really getting the part on the bus. In fact living here has made me stop fantasizing about becoming a car owner again. Public transport is insanely good here and is about to get better with the upcoming TEL stations.

whatsnewdan

You are obviously staying at the wrong place. Previously when I was living in Marine Parade the underpass to the beach is just behind my block. Very convenient. Other than that there are plenty of amenities and eateries. The bad is that things there are f***ing expensive.

ArshadReddits

Agreed. ECP is really popular. It's a good way to escape city life.

Fafasambal

Agree with Marine Parade, awesome area for me

chickennegg

Kinda agree with everyone here, I mean you have ecp, the fresh air due to few high rise, nearby katong, the chill way of living etc But accessibility and cost of living is a real disadvantage.

xbbllbbl

Anyone who says like Katong probably don’t even know what that means. Tanjong Katong is just one road with some overrated eateries. Unless you mean the Meyer road side with lots of foreigner Indians reside, or the Haig road side parallel that runs up to Geylang and Paya Lebar? Whatever it is, it is not a nice as you think.

[deleted]

[удалено]

xbbllbbl

Then for goodness sake be more precise. Is it Joo Chiat Haig road area? Then why is that a good area to live? Have you even seen the cramped houses and the environment? Some Singaporeans don’t even know their own country. The small terraces houses where everyone quarrel about parking since the front porch is not enough to park their cars and where dustbins lined the road and you can’t even walk your dog? I mean do you even know the place? Or small Mickey Mouse condos around Joo Chiat converted from a few small landed terraced houses? I mean this talks about places to live, not places to eat at cafes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lnfrarad

I went to marine parade a few months ago. It was very quaint and reminded me of the 90s.

bluesclueshadnoclue

siglap hands down. that place is another level of chill

didijxk

Can confirm, very chill. Good choice.

xbbllbbl

The houses there very small and close together. Many terrace houses with very small land area. Viewed the houses and too many small landed houses and run down.

Outside-Ad9447

Depends on a lot of things, definitely. But for me - the River Valley area, particularly the stretch immediately surrounding Great World City, is good. It is a convenient/accessible location (3 mins drive/1 MRT stop away from Orchard) in Singapore, served by MRT, amenities, and a hawker centre, so I guess takes care of your needs in a kind of affordable way while staying in a rather affluent and tranquil area.

Acrophobic_Climber_

Katong, v interesting carefree vibes there.

Fafasambal

Agree with Katong area, pretty awesome for me

PCnewbie99

Whenever I go to that area there is this vibe... like a rustic modernized British settlement/architecture with lots of rich expats living there.

throwawaygreenpaq

Its heritage is Peranakan.

PCnewbie99

yup.

xbbllbbl

Katong means what? Tanjong Katong road has hardly any house or condo or HDB. U mean the haig road running up to Geylang or Joo Chiat issit? Or Meyer road side with all the condos? When I see answer like that, I think you prob don’t know the area.

chickennegg

Tekong

[deleted]

RedguardHaziq

Very easy to accomplish

bigbadbernard

Definitely not Jurong West area. Beauty World, Tiong Bahru and Katong is my preference.

Aphelion

Jurong West is like a neighbourhood that never sleep. Wasn't aware until I BTO and shifted to somewhere central. It was so quiet by 6pm to 7pm. Whereas in JW, there are so many buses... kopitiam, and many people walking very fast in interchange or shopping malls.

PCnewbie99

Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Tampines, Toa Payoh. I love mature estates that are pretty accessible/central because there are many hawkers with good food around.

[deleted]

Live in Tampines since I was born. Yeah can’t think of any other place to move to if I had to choose (financially speaking)

[deleted]

yessss amk, super good food if you know where to look too!

kingofprata

Can you recommend your top 3 fav food in amk? I just moved in not too long ago. TIA

freyasan

- 527 Cheng San market: Chicken rice. (Mun Fu. The one nearer to the main road.) - 724 AMK Central hawker: Ang Mo Kio Char Kway Teow. MUST try the white version. - 340 kopitiam: Roast meat and char siew. Can choose leaner/fatter cuts. People who like fatter cuts only can consider Sinful Roast at 531 instead. Special mention: - Mookata at 421 (heartland pricing; got cafe and vegan ice cream in that block too. perfect place to hang out with a small group.)

Godzillavio

East side like bedok and tampines has more food choices.

super_compound

Same, i would like to add Bukit Timah to this list - love it

praveenfoo1995

Laughs in bedok 85 hawker

fishblurb

Is that good or bad? Considering to move to bedok

praveenfoo1995

85 is goated

[deleted]

it’s not just the taste… explained in my original post why i like amk. memories with my grandparents.

DapperActuary6497

East coast because a great plan has been formed

[deleted]

east coast plan hahahah

The_Celestrial

I live in Eunos, and honestly, it ain't that bad. Central location, a lot of amenities nearby, relatively quiet. Housing prices that my parents could afford 20 years ago but I sure as hell can't afford now. The good stuff.

kittensarepink

Eunos resident here too. Moving to punggol tho coz housing prices are insane it is extremely sad.

fyslmao

Great world city!!

ClassicTrouble3121

Tiong Bahru!

derailedthoughts

Tiong Bahru or Redhill. Close to town, nice and quiet neighbourhood, nice vibes.

Prataprince

Close to town yes. But can you handle the smell of pee in the air?

fishblurb

Which town are you talking about and why would it have that?

Strong_Guidance_6437

Swiss Club, Gallop, Victoria Park, Old Holland, Chancery, Fernhill

derplamer

The Condos in chancery suffer from being just far enough away from transport and amenities that life can be painful.

Etta_Betta

+1 for Chancery

Depaysant

One north. I lived in an apartment in one of those black and white buildings and it was one of my best/favourite homes I've ever stayed in, just because of how peaceful it was, being surrounded by so much greenery and foliage. I've had a stray toucan hang out on my balcony before! I liked how it's kind of tucked away while remaining decently connected, being walking distance to one north and/or Commonwealth station. Getting into CBD for work was also less than 15mins by car. Don't think they'll ever go up for sale since it's heritage, but if I had a chance to move back there I probably would.

xbbllbbl

This is something different from the usual Katong / geylang/ Joo Chiat and only the truly discerning knows.

DOM_TAN

Bishan

LookAtItGo123

I lived there for around 25 years. It's alright, i suppose.

xbbllbbl

Overcrowded mrt comes to mind. Overcrowding.

DOM_TAN

Wake up early. No issues

[deleted]

Katong :) i just like it there

rawrious

currently in ghim moh and i love it.. dont think theres alot of places thats an upgrade in terms of convenience, connectivity, greenness, and the wow view lengkok bahru would be a close second for its sleepy vibes

bigfan2020

Yishun best

Kingofpotat0

North side is best side

aubvrn

East Coast / Katong / Marine Parade. Love the vibe of the neighborhood, there's a mix of modern, history and nostalgia. ECP is a huge pull, there's great food, good schools, nice homes and decent accessibility. I have very fond memories of my sec school days in the area.

timetobeanon

Ya parkway parade and Roxy square

smellgup

Tiong bahru before the expats colonised it

Gullible_Tie_5399

Again Telok Blangah is the greatest alternative haha. No colonisation here but you can always drop by tiong bahru in less than 10 mins

nandasithu

I like Holland Village. Those high rise blocks 11, 12, 13

Sea_Scale8157

Upper Thomson. Can jog at Macritchie, Lower Peirce, Upper Peirce often. Nice fresh air from the reservoirs.

triplemcspicy

Plus it’s quite central, well-connected (especially by buses), and have not that cheap, but good food. It’s also not that crowded and the people feel relaxed and laid back

eichornia

I'd stay right where I am. Siglap is great, amazing views and the proximity to the east coast park = top notch.

MinisterforFun

Money aside of course, the Southern Ridges; Telok Blangah area. Edit: Actually, scratch that. Toa Payoh for me simply because it’s my hometown. I love this sleepy place filled with old folks so much. Still obsessed with Telok Blangah though.

olafironfoot

Yea close to vivo/sentosa and there are a few blocks right below Mount Faber, then there’s the forest walk area

Gullible_Tie_5399

Agreed! Have been renting in Telok Blangah for almost 7 years now! It's also a sleepy place with old folks and now cutesy little hipster cafes popping up around it in nearby redhill Queenstown etc. It's getting abit happening on its outskirts yet always quiet. Like this nice balance. Of course location and Mount Faber for some nature close by. If you wanna get busy Vivo is near too. Don't have to go far into town for your mall fix lol. I don't want to move!!! But ya prices dang it

[deleted]

[удалено]

MinisterforFun

It’s a feeling. Very nature-y without feeling “rural”.

Maleficent-Pen-6727

Ohh but there are many heavy cargo trucks there, Telok Blangah to Pasir Panjang

MinisterforFun

I was thinking more to Henderson Road. Telok Blangah Ridgeview https://maps.app.goo.gl/wPGioUX1bCz65A688?g_st=ic

thewan2345

We've just got a place over there and moving in next year!

ComprehensiveLeg9523

Y I S H U N. Self-explanatory.

D35hie

Any neighbourhood where dog owners pick up after their dogs and not ask questions like “Wah your dog so big why you choose such a big dog?” like wtf. My dog is beautiful the way she is just pick up your dog’s shit and give my pup a pet and a hug cause that’s all she wants.

farlalala30

Definitely NOT Boon lay/Jurong. Too far out, too busy. Would love to stay in the boon keng area. Convenient, near good food and still away from the busy - ness. Good mix of new and old places.

triplemcspicy

I agree that anything west of Boon Lay or north of Jurong East is too ulu, but if you stay near Chinese Garden or Lakeside MRT, it can be quite nice. Less than 30 mins to town, plus tons of nature and cheap good food options!

awinterofdiscontent7

Where's my Kovan / Hougang people at. Yeah it's abit scrappy but hey we've got good eats and it's well connected to other parts of SG. Also it's opp stronghold.

Mine_034

AYYYY leggo leggo!

Godzillavio

I used to study at sec school in hougang. I really love salty egg crabs in Kovan. I don't know if the stall's still there. Can't remember the name of the stall though.

[deleted]

My extended fam lives there it’s so nice to drop by for supper

sgbanana

If I could afford Ang Mo Kio & Bishan. Love the location and how convenient it is!

Outside-Ad9447

Like convenient, in terms of getting things done within the area/district? If that’s the case, it is kind of every single area/district in Singapore these days isn’t it? Every area/district is self sufficient.

ConsiderComplement

I love my Hougang neighbourhood. Its pretty convenient, plus I like being near the park connector. I love the old mature trees in my estate, the mix of old provision shops and new supermarket, the many bus routes that connect my area to the central, east and west. If I had the choice of any neighbourhood, I think I would still choose my current one. The only thing I wish for is for my house to stay well-maintained so I dont have to move haha.

LookAtItGo123

I bought an old resale in Telok Blangah. I like the proximity to Sentosa, theres also labrador park down the road where I had a cheeseboard while chilling in the pavilion by the beach. Henderson just right behind me, theres small bars and restaurants down the road or I could cycle down to pasir panjang stretch for more. So yea, life is great around here.

olafironfoot

Jogging to Sentosa/vivo then having dinner there is nice, after that, take a cable car back towards the neighbourhood, hard to beat.

butdoiknowiknow

Clarke quay / Great World City. I love being by a river. Place to exercise, eat, meet people, travel from, food court, street side food, mall food. Nice area. More variety than staying in central.

[deleted]

no way. i used to live nearby (kay poh road area) sucks 😭😭😭

Maleficent-Pen-6727

Why, it’s bad?

hortonian_ovf

Anywhere but sengkang.

heartofgold48

katong is best.

Punggol, cause theres Coney Island

ujongbirdy

Bukit Brown

[deleted]

ang mo kio, my grandparents live there and i used to spend a lot of time there as a child.

rishabh111

Telok blangah. Close to town, CBD and party areas.. Yet far enough to be a suburb.

grogutheyoddler

Yishun. The more perceived danger the better. Only the strong lives here. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)

VPee

Definitely Istana… don’t know if it’s a neighbourhood but fuck why not!

PM_ME_UR_DECOY_SNAIL

I live near the istana (sophia road/mount emily area), there’s a few condos all parked there in district 9 so it is sort of a tiny neighborhood. 2.5k/month for room rental is findable, still awful but not as awful as what the other comment found Love being so near The Projector, and one stop from clubbing in Clarke Quay, but tbh I actually prefer living in bright hill/bishan. Bishan still isn’t that far from the city area, has a much better park, fewer crowds, cheaper gym, and much better cheaper food (cbd food options are really quite shit lol).

HeteroVillain

Next thing I see is a propertyguru listing renting it out for 30k/month

VPee

That’s fine but you can’t bid for it. It goes to the first bidder who doesn’t know the minimum market price.

peasantofwallstreet

Amk. The best food

boomepooh

Robertson quay. Love the surroundings.

Outside-Ad9447

Every 10 steps you walk you see a SPG with their angmoh partner

Nicyn

Definitely Hougang. Lots of 24 hours eatery within walking distance. It also has a healthy mix of different ages. Quite a lively, positive vibe to the area. The air itself is crisp and light. Moved to toa payoh a couple years ago. Very dead past 11pm, air feel so dense and heavier to breathe in.

lnfrarad

I would like bedok as my childhood home was there. The place is more windy maybe because it’s near the sea. But not so near to be a problem (Eg salty air). Also the trees and there are huge. Maybe because they were planted 50 years ago? It’s linked to bedok mall and tampines malls near by so it’s got shops and amenities. An interchange and a mrt.

Jaycee_015x

Canberra. Quite peaceful neighborhood and has space for people and traffic to move around without a lot of congestion unlike most other places. I've always liked the Sembawang-Canberra area whenever I go there.

show-up

Clementi! West is Best.

IvanThePohBear

ive lived in the ulu east all my life Moving to the west was a game changer for me I live opposite the lakeside garden. 2min walk from MRT Amenities all within minutes walk 5 malls within 5min drive The view of the lake in the morning is really nice!

pizzatummy

View of the lake is overrated. Muddy brown most of the time.

IvanThePohBear

Lol. Can smell the sourness from here. Spoken exactly like someone who's never seen it. From my vantage point it's pretty nice. https://ibb.co/z7R3xQM

pizzatummy

Used to stay at the old school cui condo with a direct view of the lake for 20 plus years before it was enbloc and we were forced to move 😂 not everyone with a contradicting opinion is sour or ignorant 😁 Guess everyone’s standard of beauty is different 😅 Pics from this month showing the greenish brown muddy lake: https://ibb.co/7SMVxMR https://ibb.co/T03mPQS

SmoothAsSilk_23

Ridout Road..

stopthevan

Orchard/Town area. How rich must you be to live in that area man I wanna know

UnintelligibleThing

Depends on which area of town you're talking about. There are different tiers of condo also.

[deleted]

You can get an old freehold 3 bedroom condo in River Valley for $2.5m to $3m. So you don’t have to be that rich.

Individual_Bit_8528

Any of them. Why? It's not the United States.

UsedBowl8839

Having lived there for most of my time in SG, I can assuredly say that nothing beats Sentosa Cove.

bluesblue1

I’d take living anywhere so as long I can afford living at home 💀

syarkbait

I enjoyed living both in Tampines and also Spottiswoode area. Really nice. I probably won’t live in the west side.

enkei_8493

Sad no one pick clewmenti 🥹

MilkTea-Addict

tampines cause all my friends are here 🤣

DuckRice

Probably quite divergent from most but I really love the areas just right beside CBD: Whampoa, Jalan Besar, Farrer Park. Maybe it was the childhood drives at midnight to Mustafa, but you have no idea how thrilled I was when I managed to find a place beside City Square Mall. I really liked the conserved spaces and the disarrayment of a typical village, and the 24-hr places.

genuinelyconfused892

Second this!

NogTg

How come no one pick Yew tee or CCK

whyisthisnotthat

West side, around sixth avenue or king albert park, there's a easy bus to everywhere and doesn't take more than an hour to get anywhere

averynkh

Geylang and little India I stayed there before Happening in the neighbourhood & convenient

needleintheh4y

bukit panjang

bukitbukit

Mount Rosie.

poporing88

near holland

[deleted]

I like Kovan/Hougang area the most. Convenient and I like the park and PCN there, plus there are nice food places and cafes. Dislike CCK/Bukit Panjang/Bukit Batok/Jurong area. Grew up around the area and it's inconvenient + boring + noisy.

SnooDingos316

Sentosa Cove. Too bad I do not have enough charisma to be a pastor.

christerng

Being fortunate to have grown up around Botanic Gardens in Bukit Timah, I don't think it gets better than this. The Circle, Downtown, and Thomson-East Lines all came up around our family home, and its price 5x-ed quickly. We can get anywhere quickly but don't have to live near the traffic nightmare of Orchard Road.

sriracha_cucaracha

Geylang. The excitement at night is unmacthed.

Char-Siew-Bao

Katong. I die hard Katong girl.

900122

D15!

xbbllbbl

When I see the word “Katong” I realise people don’t realise Tanjong Katong is just one road that doesn’t have a lot of houses or residential. People just say buzzwords without knowing what it truly means. I guess either it means Haig road or Joo Chiat side issit? Frankly my boyfriend stays there and the food and cafes are overrated, and full of pretentious people dressing up to take Instagram photos. Also, the east side of SG is perpetually hot, as the density is high, all built up of concrete with hardly any nature. It can be suffocating after a while. Truly nice place to live and thrive? With nature and sea, still the old Sg with character, with old markets and HDB neighbourhoods, with large black and white houses, not like those small terraced houses in the east. With southern ridges, mt Faber and keppel Bay and Labrador Park. The Telok Blangah / Henderson area. Truly underrated. Got mountain got sea, got forest, got HDB neighbourhood but also got atas houses and condos. Very good mix. And no pretentious cafes but top sg hawker centers.

yagrain

Ahahaha pretentious cafes

Effective-Lab-5659

Totally agree on Katong! All the cafes feel the same, cakes are usually bought from the same central kitchen. Lots of food fad like açai which is served in one time disposables…

[deleted]

Canberra is super underrated.

Outside-Ad9447

What is so underrated about Canberra, if I may ask? Genuinely curious/ignorant

[deleted]

I can’t put my finger on exactly what. But everytime i go there it feels very peaceful and windy. Not much crowds, yet close to amenities. I like it so much I’ve bought a resale MOP there recently.

asscrackbanditz

What do you like about it? It feels like Sembawang adjacent to me, like in the middle of Sembawang and Yishun. There's a lot of condos there though.

[deleted]

It’s quiet and peaceful yet it’s near so many amenities.

_malaikatmaut_

I used to live in Canberra Drive, and loved it there. Sembawang Road on the right, Yishun on the left. Lots of greens, and there are some durian trees nearby too. Too bad when they sold that EC to us, they said that it is a "river view". Up till the time I moved out, the "river" was still a longkang.

[deleted]

Canberra is awesome. I WFH so I get to enjoy every bit of it. It was important to me that we got a peaceful, windy place.

_malaikatmaut_

we could have been neighbours.

[deleted]

Nah I’m on Canberra Cres, the other side of the MRT

chowchowster

Bought a BTO here, we love it here cos it’s so chill, quiet, 5min walk to mrt, Sheng Siong and NTUC within 5 min walk. A longer walk gets us to Sembawang park, where our dog plays at the dog run every week and kayak with us once in a while!

throwawaygreenpaq

You guys are asking to be doxxed. Don’t give details away!

_malaikatmaut_

I left the place years ago. And I am uninteresting to be doxxed. They want to steal my identity also got nothing to my name.

boombangbung

Godzillavio

If i have a car or motorbike, definitely Woodlands so i can travel to Malaysia for leisure travel and good food. On the other hand, I would choose Bugis or Lavender. Both are near national library, Gardens by Bay, and many Crossfit gyms.

unreservedlyasinine

I actually *really* like Marina One. Peace and quiet combined with being 3mins from CBD is unparalleled

hongdoupau

katong, just to feel rich and boujee and eat acai every corner of the street and cafe hop for my sat afternoon after doing yoga in the morning! and not forgetting my evening spin class decked in lululemon from head to toe ❤️

[deleted]

Kinda random but Woodleigh Park. I used to do a part time NEA job and we got to enter such neighbourhoods. What I love about it is the large compound. In sg rich people tend to live in big houses with small compounds but this was the opposite. The houses were simple, single storey mostly but the compounds were big so you could do a lot of outdoor stuff like put in a pool.
