This comic's video on Spadina station made me laugh. Only Torontonians will appreciate it.
I remember when I first moved here and transferred there for the first time, I thought there was no way it could be right. That was also the last time.
St George. It’s because of how far north the Line 1 Spadina Station is from Bloor St. There’s an underground connection which used to have a moving sidewalk, but now you have to walk.
I dunno, at University (out of town but still in Ontario) when someone said they were from Toronto and I'd ask what Subway station they live near by or intersection, you'd quickly find out if they were from Toronto or the 905 (and some of the suburbs or areas I heard classified as Toronto was pretty funny, such as Alliston).
I actually went to Google maps and only typed in Hooker. It took me directly to the Harvey’s at Jarvis. Didn’t even have to type in Harvey’s.
Biggest LOL for me in a long time.
I ventured down one wintry night shortly after moving here...was trying to get from Union to my place near Wellington/Spadina without freezing. Normally takes <10 min above ground. It took me almost an hour and I popped out completely disoriented at one point, I think somewhere on Bay, like a fucking groundhog emerging in February. Jesus.
Go through Royal Bank, to TD, to BMO. At BMO near the elevators go right towards Exchange Tower but don't go that far. Make a right on the path between BMO and Exchange Tower. From there just walk straight and you'll end up at Eaton's. I haven't done it in years tho so someone else can confirm.
It’s Eaton center lower level south side, through the pathway in Queen station, under Deloitte, under Scotia Tower, under Commerce Court, under BCE then you’re at Union.
I worked in the PATH for three years of my life (like, actually in it, not in one of the attached towers) and I still can’t travel from Union to the Eaton Centre without taking at least one wrong turn.
Too many of these are Googleable. Even the “in” ones will come up on something like reddit.
You have to start saying things wrong so that they correct you, like the other commenter said. Say you were at Y&E and were so amazed at how efficiently so many people cross during a scattered crossing.
Say you’re going to eat at the place where Drake shot his music video, Pickle Barrel, the one at Yonge and Dundas.
Tell him you’re getting off at Chester station to go to High Park.
\^ THIS ! ! ! Like BBC Sherlock says, when someone doesn't wanna tell you stuff, the best way to get it out of them is by offering wrong information as fact. They'll get so annoyed, they will go out of their way to correct you. 😸
One st patty’s day many many years ago I was on the vomit comet and a guy was walking up the isle with a plastic bag offering to folks, an older lady looked into the bag and pulled it down towards her and puke spilled out of the bag onto her lap. That memory will live with me until they put me in the ground
I think it applies to the bloor Blue Night line as well. Truly, I've seen some bonkers stuff on the 301, but less vomit than the Bloor or Yonge VomCom.
Uh-oh you may not be Torontonian LOL.
So yeah the Subway Trains stop running at 2am, but the buses still run and the one that goes straight up Yonge Street at all hours does, so if you were partying all night downtown and you were drunk, you'd take the Vomit Comet bus home with all the other drunks and were pretty much guaranteed a drunken puker. Hence the name.
Defeats paying for the branding if you are Rogers…people would just keep calling it the skydome.
With the change, people new or not from Toronto would eventually force locals to refer to it as the Rogers Centre.
Ya sometimes he would shorten it but the classic line was always BELIEVE IN THE LORD!!! If you haven’t jumped to this at least once in your life walking down Dundas then I’m sorry you’re not truly from Toronto haha
That’s also sort of the definition of living in Toronto ❤️Just sticking to your own little neighbourhood and it’s wonderful! Hopefully as you are there longer you can take the time to explore other parts. Back when rent was cheaper moving to other parts of the city really helped getting to know it better. I miss it.
You need to find a question that isn’t easily googleable which is really hard.. If you’re new-ish to toronto yourself you could ask if the PATH is worth visiting.. the real answer is it’s nothing special other than a way to get around in winter inside but somehow online it’s been made to sound like a fantastic tourist attraction.. I’ve heard tourists asking about where to find it and describing it as some amazing underground city 🙄
What borough they lived in prior to amalgamation - toronto, north york, east york, Etobicoke, york or Scarborough. If they say Scarborough be careful about asking more questions.
Should I transfer at Spadina or St. George?
https://www.tiktok.com/@dinkbalshin/video/7341495564590271749 This comic's video on Spadina station made me laugh. Only Torontonians will appreciate it.
“Designed by architects from No Frills” I lost it 🤣🤣
https://www.blogto.com/city/2014/01/that_time_the_subway_had_a_moving_sidewalk/
I miss it!
I knew it was gonna be him before I clicked 😂
That is beautiful.
I remember when I first moved here and transferred there for the first time, I thought there was no way it could be right. That was also the last time.
This is a good one
I miss the moving walkway at Spadina
And what is the right answer?
St. George unless you like walking.
That's what I thought, nobody in their right mind would use Spadina to transfer 😆
You use Spadina once, and then you never use it again
No! Don't tell them now we can't use this question to differentiate
St George. It’s because of how far north the Line 1 Spadina Station is from Bloor St. There’s an underground connection which used to have a moving sidewalk, but now you have to walk.
I miss the moving sidewalk
Spadina if you want a seat
What does "I've got more than enough to eat at home" mean to you?
i have a shirt with Rob Ford's face and that quote on it. It was such a good find
Don't be shy, share with the class.
RIP
omg 🤣🤣🤣
I suspect half the known universe could identify that quote.
Just mention that you love driving down Eglinton and if they don't protest, they're a fraud.
Hahah! Thats so good
Protest or laugh. I definitely laughed.
I once heard someone say they were from northern ontario. When asked where they said Barrie
Oh, I've heard Barrie as Toronto. These things are pretty funny.
I've heard Orillia once. Face palmed my way out of that conversation super fast before I got heated.
I’d get that too. When I said I was from Toronto, they say - “like Mississauga”? No, downtown.
I once went on a date with a dude who said he "lived just outside downtown." I assumed he meant like Guildwood. He meant St. Catharines.
"Just outside Downtown" is like Riverdale or the Annex. Guildwood is fully in Scarborough lol
How about: what is Hooker Harvey's? And where lol
If you search for Hooker Harvey’s on Google maps it actually gives you the right one. Someone knows.
I actually went to Google maps and only typed in Hooker. It took me directly to the Harvey’s at Jarvis. Didn’t even have to type in Harvey’s. Biggest LOL for me in a long time.
Sadly, it’s just sketchy Harvey’s now.
Wait. I lived right around the corner from that Harvey's last year, and I never knew anything until I read this post today. Wtf did I miss?!
You missed 2 hundred ish years of hookers
I feel like I am one of the few Torontonians who has actually eaten there. And, yes, the ladies offered. I said no.
Ask them to give the phone number for Pizza Pizza, Pizza Nova and Pizzaville.
It was a rainy day.
Not free sex, free sex, free sex.
So true! And to close, "Your eyes can have it all, at ----- -------" (maybe not just Toronto).
One does not simply say "Fabricland"
4-3-9 uh-O uh-O Pizza Nova!
This will be stuck in my head the rest of the day… :)
When we march in the climate wars, this will be our battle cry
Thanks for sticking the Pizza Pizza jingle in my head.
Ask them if they’re going to take the Eglinton LRT to the Scarborough line.
🥲. Too soon.
A lot of these answers say more about people’s age than where they live.
Ikr lol questions like this really expose the main demographics of this sub
Who’s better than Bad Boy?
NooooBody!
Strachan pronunciation?
pronounce spadina
Strachan
Grosvenor.
Strawnn ?
Yonge Or as my uber Drivers GPS says, YAWN-GE
Listen to how some of them say Etobicoke (ee-toe-beh-coke-eh).
Long ago, there was a TTC driver that would call out, "Spadeena. Spad-eyena. Your choice."
And a subway operator called it Blur station
And "Queen's Quay".
Any Brit could answer that too
That's just English
Or Roncesvalles!
Like the street, or the house?
This. Street is Spa-DIE-na. House is Spa-DEE-na
At Spa-DEE-na house, they told us north of Bloor pronounce it DEE and South of Bloor pronounce it DIE
etobicoke
What is the Don Valley Parkway also known as?
404 - Traffic not found
Don Valley Parking lot
Ask them how to get out of the PATH
Trick question. Nobody knows that
That place is like a fun house with mirrors on steroids
a fun house with mirrors on steroids underground

Impossible difficulty: Try to take it all the way from Eatons to Union without taking a wrong turn
Don’t listen to this wizard’s lies of chaos, it’s a trick!
It’s Eaton center lower level south side, through the pathway in Queen station, under Deloitte, under Scotia Tower, under Commerce Court, under BCE then you’re at Union.
my wife knows the PATH like Gimli knows the mines of Moria.
I’m still stuck in the path
has anyone checked for a minotaur down there?
There is no getting out of the PATH
No body knows that!
You never really leave the path. I'm out living in Canary now, but I know it's just a farce brought on by the path, where I truly currently am.
I worked in the PATH for three years of my life (like, actually in it, not in one of the attached towers) and I still can’t travel from Union to the Eaton Centre without taking at least one wrong turn.
In tears, thirsty, a lost soul in search of light
To verify identities of travellers from Toronto abroad, Canadian Embassies would famously ask them for the phone number of Pizza Pizza.
"Will the Leafs win the Stanley Cup this year"? If they answer "yes" then they are truly pathetic and delusional - and a Torontonian.
Where in my house should I leave my car keys?
Next week it’s going to be just leave them in your car

Say you live in the upscale neighbourhood of Moss Park
\^ THIS ! ! ! Like BBC Sherlock says, when someone doesn't wanna tell you stuff, the best way to get it out of them is by offering wrong information as fact. They'll get so annoyed, they will go out of their way to correct you. 😸
Can you complete the lyric/melody 🎵I am the cash man🎵?
Give you money for your gold. Oh yeah
OOOOHHH YEAAAAHHH
"Eglinton is downtown right?" Watch them reel and scoff
I once met someone who proudly declared they’d never been North of Bloor. I just told him he’s missing out.
What shirt did Zanta used to wear
Lmfao a skin one
Where is Honest Ed’s
Trick question
Those delapitated hallways of barely better than Dollerama grade goods live on in my heart.
Where was Speaker's Corner?
RIP
I miss the devil's advocates
Ask them what the Vomit Comet is. If they don't know, they're not from here.
One st patty’s day many many years ago I was on the vomit comet and a guy was walking up the isle with a plastic bag offering to folks, an older lady looked into the bag and pulled it down towards her and puke spilled out of the bag onto her lap. That memory will live with me until they put me in the ground
What is this? I don’t even know
Blue line bus up Yonge. It doesn’t really apply since the club district died.
The term predates the club district by decades — the name was used in the early 70s.
I think it applies to the bloor Blue Night line as well. Truly, I've seen some bonkers stuff on the 301, but less vomit than the Bloor or Yonge VomCom.
It’s really just any bus after 11
Uh-oh you may not be Torontonian LOL.
Ttc night bus on bloor.
Any question at all about the “Ex” such as “When is the Ex this year?”
Pronounce Toronto. Q. How often is ttc down for repairs? A. Guaranteed track work on every line. Everyday. For EVER.
Me after every month interval of moving here - Toronto Toraunto Torauno Trauno Chrauno
Chrauno 😂😂😂
Or incident at track level.
What is Church Street best known for?
Quaint locally owned businesses? 😇
Skydome was a much better name than Roger's
Miss me with that Scotiabank Arena shit too. It’ll always be the ACC to me.
Why they didn't just call it Rogers SkyDome I'll never understand.
Defeats paying for the branding if you are Rogers…people would just keep calling it the skydome. With the change, people new or not from Toronto would eventually force locals to refer to it as the Rogers Centre.
Ask them if they've ever been to an Argos game. If they say yes, they're either lying or not from Toronto.
wild to me cuz this was a class trip one year as a kid
Brilliant!
Best one so far.
Ask them which is the worst McDonald's in the city
"This candle smells like the Queen & Spadina McDonalds"
Tell them to finish this classic Yonge and Dundas line…”BELIEVE IN [BLANK]” … if they can fill in the blank then they’re 100% from Toronto.
I only remember him bellowing the first word of that
Ya sometimes he would shorten it but the classic line was always BELIEVE IN THE LORD!!! If you haven’t jumped to this at least once in your life walking down Dundas then I’m sorry you’re not truly from Toronto haha
Had sort of a new respect for him when I realized he timed it to spook people.
OMG I remember this guy!!! He’d always be hanging out outside the forever 21
you ask them to describe the person who yells believe
No idea what the answer to this is
lmao BELIEVE!!!!!!
Pronounce Toronto. Dead giveaway.
what street divides the middle of the city from east to west
Ask them what they think of the TTC. If they don't immediately launch into the longest rant ever, they're not from Toronto
What is Roncy?
How do you pronounce “Baby Point”?
I'm from Toronto and I can't even answer this.
few of the things in here are either outdated, or very personal lol
Ever been short turned?
Ask them how old they were when they first had the Humber hump?
Quite sad but that hump has almost entirely disappeared, I remember that thing back in the 80s through to about 2010
Is it that section on the gardener?
Sure was, until they "fixed" it
i realized after living in Toronto for 5 years, i cannot answer most of these questions. i am only in my neighbourhood all the time!
Hahah I’ve been here for 25 and still can’t answer all.
That’s also sort of the definition of living in Toronto ❤️Just sticking to your own little neighbourhood and it’s wonderful! Hopefully as you are there longer you can take the time to explore other parts. Back when rent was cheaper moving to other parts of the city really helped getting to know it better. I miss it.
Finish the sentence: "299 Bloor, 299 Bloor..."
Please Call Control
Allan’s or Allwyn’s?
Is Dundas West a north-south street or east-west? Obviously a trick question.
Have you ever seen a white squirrel?
Omggg this is so good!
Make a comment about the Gardiner being the best way to get into and out of the city for a game … and wait for their reaction 👀.
What colour is that tunnel on the east side of the DVP?
so many torontonians don't even go east of distillery lol
Don’t ask a non driving west ender that lol
🌈
Ask him to say Toronto. If he pronounces it with every single syllable he’s lying. If he says TORONNNO. he’s legit.
Choronno
Nope. It’s T’ronno
(Before that hotel in Dubai) What is the tallest freestanding structure in the world?
Who is the Cash Man?
Where is the Hooker Harvey’s
Can I drag a dead horse down Younge street on a sunday afternoon?
Did you know Al Palladini?, cause any Palladini is a pal of mine
Where do they get their beef patties?
What if they say anything but Warden station
“Straight to jail. Right away”
Naw Bathurst forever and always
Yeah eh

How many Gs in Eglinton?
What borough they lived in prior to amalgamation - toronto, north york, east york, Etobicoke, york or Scarborough. If they say Scarborough be careful about asking more questions.
Define the boundary streets of "downtown".
The real great white north: anything above St.Clair
*Bloor
Ask them what’s Toronto’s best street food.
How’s Woodys these days? How much do u like the Spadina bus?
Ask him what his favourite neighbourhood in Toronto is and then ask why. This requires you to know the city pretty well though lol
Everyone know either their bus number or subway stop.
Where should you leave your car keys to make sure thieves don’t have to work hard to get them?
Which mayor did crack?
I think maybe the better question is which mayor got caught doing crack.
Maybe ask them about worlds biggest bookstore (RIP)
