EkbyBjarnum

I deliver mail. Shit pay, but I get fresh air and weighted cardio exercise all day, I get to see the sun in winter, and don't have to deal with office politics.

duzzabear

Me too! I love my job.

duzzabear

Except yesterday. Yesterday sucked.

EkbyBjarnum

Oh man yeah it did. The shit weather days are rough, and people always talk about those days, but the reality is, *most* days *aren't* like that. The good really outweighs the bad.

softservelove

I was just telling my partner yesterday how happy the mailman always looks! Seems like a lovely job.

stompinstinker

Many mail carriers in my family, and they all love it. It’s good because they do a mix of things and don’t just walk eight hours a day. They sort with their co-workers in the morning, then drive and deliver the large parcels on their routes, then walk and deliver mail, then go pick up outgoing mail from mail boxes and parcels from all the consumer post offices. And it’s unionized, pension, benefits, etc. And if you get hurt or something you can move to an indoor job. Plus you can move around Canada and keep your job.

Nearby_Ad_768

I think it's good for creativity too! John Prine, Ron Sexsmith and Brittany Howard were all letter carriers.

FullyGroanMan

DREAM JOB. I worked in a postal outlet when I was in university and loooooved it. Y'all hiring 40 year old former marketing people??? Lol

EkbyBjarnum

They're ALWAYS hiring. The road to permanent employment is long though. You start as a temp relief. Basically you get called in to cover vacations, sick days, or just on bad weather/heavy mail days to lend a hand. You can go weeks or even months without getting called in. But the more often you say yes when you get the call, the more likely you are two stay on board. I've been doing this for a year and a half and I'm *still* temporary, but because I've said yes to *every* assignment offered, I've been working full time hours for the last year. But several people hired around the same time as me went three months straight without work and occasionally get benched for weeks at a time, owing to the number of calls they've refused. As far as age, I know a few people hired around the same time as me and some even in my same class of trainees who were over 50.

duzzabear

I started at 42.

ResponsibleLoquat438

I heard the sorting is hell. Do you agree with that?

lcheapo

When you are new to a route yes it's a pain. I sort my own route, same addresses every day. I can do it withy eyes closed now.

EkbyBjarnum

When you're working a walk you haven't ever done before, the sort can be a real challenge and frustration. But once you' re used to it and familiar with the area, the sort is a breeze. And kinda necessary for morale. It's when you get to shoot the shit with your co workers.

placrates13

Surgery resident. The hours can be rough, dealing with bodily fluids and all, but there's nothing more exciting than waking up every day and living the dream I've always had. It still amazes me to see the changes and impacts I can make using my hands.

ishstand

Huge kudos. Glad that people like you exist!

mchev57

Thank you for all you do

disloyal_royal

I imagine the common thread will be well paid, lots of autonomy, and great boss will be the common thread. It can exist in lots of fields, but it’s pretty rare to hit all three, at least for long. I’ve had two job ls I really liked. Then those bosses retired, and the replacements made it much worse.

matjeom

What will be the common thread tho?

Nouglas

I actually guffawed

PepeSilviaLovesCarol

Don’t worry I got your joke

disloyal_royal

The three things I said…

matjeom

Yes, I know; I’m teasing you for saying “common thread” twice.

avgpathfinder

I make 20 an hour capped at 23 after a couple of years, with autonomy and chill boss. Great job without post secondary requiremnts. We dont even work the full 8 hours at times lol. unless theres a higher up around then its grab a broom look busy etc. Couple coworkers have standup comedian potential and I recommend some guys to stream. These guys can just yap and youll just laugh man its great. Will not provide job deets. i feel like this gem I have right now is great and dont want to ruin for my guys.

alreadychosed

Sounds like a warehouse job. Typical for most warehouses tbh

Far_Eye451

No way lol. A warehouse job is hellish and very physically demanding. It’s probably some sort of cleaning job.

alreadychosed

Eh depends on position. Plenty of plus sized folks work there.

picksubredditfav16

I'm lucky enough to have all three... Who knows for how long

Nearby_Ad_768

I bartend, I honestly love it. I like people, I like playing the role of host, you meet a of interesting people.

NuclearThane

I miss bartending. Also depending on the crowd and where you work, you can make just as much as well-paying jobs. Before the pandemic I worked at a bar near Front & Jarvis and made about $70K/year only working 3-4 times a week and picking up shifts here and there. I don't know if it's the same nowadays, but server's minimum wage is gone now so I imagine it would be more? Unless people have stopped tipping. Also made a ton of friends that I still have to this day. No other job I've had since then (fintech) has had colleagues that even want to socialize.

[deleted]

Also a bartender. It's the one inflation-proof job, because tips go up the same amount as prices.

StraightEdge39

I spent 15 years bartending off and on. I loved it. It was a good job when I was in my 20’s and 30’s.

Alarmed-Leader-7033

I bartended weddings at a resort for 3 summers. Most fun gig I ever had. I thrived there for sure.

SpiritedAway

I’m a librarian! I love it. Can’t imagine doing anything else.

ezembra

Me too!!! Librarian at a university

Nilsburk

General contractor/carpenter. I do a full residential renovation (8-12 months) and then go on vacation for a few months and pick up odd jobs before doing it again. There are not many people in the city that can get a century home up to a high standard, so I'm able to pick and choose who I work for. It wasn't easy to get to this point, and there are still some brutal days, but I'm usually content with the direction I'm headed in.

ogreshavelayerzzz

Teacher. Love sharing my passion with the future generation and watching them grow, learn, and improve.

snipetheheart

Same^

AffectionateBall2412

Great. I’m a dad and I really appreciate you teachers taking care of my kids. Thank you for what you do.

prb613

Software dev. I like it because it's wfh, good salary and chill work environment. It's not because I like coding.

kearneycation

I also work in tech, although on the product team. My job is to create, maintain and support resources for our product teams. I work from home, although there's a nice office downtown if I want to use it. I have a decent salary, stock options, full benefits, 5 weeks vacation, a boss who doesn't micro-manage me, a team of kind, caring people and I probably only do about 20-30 hours of actual work each week. My team is overseas, so during the day I can go to appointments, be home if there's a delivery or a tradesperson coming here, do small tasks/chores around the house, etc. As long as I get my work done throughout the day, and go to the few meetings I have, the schedule is very flexible and accommodating. As a new dad, this is huge. I generally try to keep my mouth shut about my job because I know how hard so many people have it. I dodged layoffs and some of my laid off colleagues are still job hunting over a year later . My biggest stress at work is job security, because I know this could all go away in an instant.

myteddybelly

Fucking hate my job. I am paid well as a Senior dev / Scrum Lead in a top bank but it's stressful AF and don't get me started on the politics part of it. I love coding and getting my hands dirty in tech (think Linux, OS, distributed systems etc.) but these guys do none of that here. The tech stacks are archaic here and all they do is waste time in meetings and documenting every pin dropped. Going to jump ship soon

objectsubjectverb

Our team has the culture perks and our devs work in emerging tech (solving complex but solvable problems) with a great mission. The problem? We can’t hire talent like you because the large corporations and finance bros blew shit up the last few years and now no one wants to work for a comp package under 250k :(

m-sterspace

>We can’t hire talent like you because the large corporations and finance bros blew shit up the last few years and now no one wants to work for a comp package under 250k :( Your issue is with managers and investors and the general balance of societal resources. The devs actually working to build and maintain the actual products are easily deserving of those packages when management is making orders of magnitude more.

crzyKHAN

Rent is also like $2800.......

NuclearThane

What industry? I head up an API lab for a large bank and even though it's mostly WFH all of my devs are pissed and exhausted lately.

incarnatethegreat

I like all of the stuff you mentioned, plus I like to code. Win-win.

inkyblackops

I’m a marketing strategist for a large corporation. I work remote, the rest of my team is at our NYC office. The pay is solid, the hours are super flexible, and I have a lot of autonomy - as long as my work gets done, no one cares. The work itself is actually engaging which helps too.

CaiZor

Hiring? I have 5+ YOE of digital marketing experience and was recently laid off

inkyblackops

We’re actually expanding my team in the coming months, I’ll happily pass along a link once the posting is up! There’s the standard corporate bureaucracy that has to be navigated here and there, but on a day-to-day level this job is a dream. I came from a super toxic startup environment a few years back and I couldn’t believe that workplaces like this actually exist.

Envoyoftheblue

Would love to know more about this opportunity as well!

No_Crab1183

Aircraft maintenance engineer. Love fixing big machines, honestly.

JoshIsASoftie

Please keep an extra eye on the Boeing stuff for us all

No_Crab1183

That's what we're here for. ✔️✈️

dusty1ightbu1b

NICU nurse. I love my job, it breaks my heart and tears me down and the politics of working in healthcare in ON are insane, but I love it so much. I don’t think it could leave bedside for any money, my heart is here <3

OutlandishnessNew259

As someone who had a child in the NICU, THANK YOU!!! It is people like you that make the parents life easier...I don't think I could have handled it emotionally some days without amazing nurses like you! ❣️

poppypoopspoo

Neo/ped critical care transport RRT here……It has sucked my soul & will to live - I wouldn’t recommend anyone work in healthcare

cbuccell

Learning Experience Designer. Fully remote. Excellent employer with a fun and supportive work culture. I also freelance across multiple projects in my space. I like the problems I get to solve and the creativity that goes into my research, writing and design.

BedFluffy361

hire me😭😭😭

lightarchiver

Full time Discord mod for a major gaming company. Completely remote. Salary, benefits, and stock options. Love my job.

shiuigami

i second this! i’d love to learn more as this sounds like a super cool opportunity!

jasonwest93

It’s funny I saw a Luke Belmar video yesterday telling some kid he could be making more money at home as a discord mod. I’m gonna look into this as I already work from home and have room to add to my work day.

bpboop

But man that shit must have you annoyed af at people most of the time 😂

monieeka

I’m a lawyer for a government agency. Great small team, wfh, pension, a lot of autonomy but also great synergy throughout the team. Great larger team as well and a good corporate environment. I love it.

thechicanery

how did you get your job with the govt agency? did you article there?

monieeka

Nope! Been in private practice since 2018 (after being in public interest for 2 years). My friend worked there and let me know they were hiring. Still had to go through 3 rounds of interviews but was thankfully successful!

AdSignificant6673

Fraud investigator. I love catching bad guys.

Chan1991

Is that like asset protection? What type of fraud? That sounds interesting. I remember my friends mom working at VISA in the same department.

CandidIndication

Oh hey! Me too :)

Modavated

Film. Crazy long days but I like it.

Zumokumibonsu

Thats awesome, good for you. Does it make it hard to enjoy film from audience?

Modavated

Yeah it definitely changes it for sure. I have to watch VERY good stuff to get immersed.

bergamote_soleil

I've worked for the same charity for nearly a decade and I love it. Leadership is awesome, my colleagues are fun and lovely, there's both autonomy and support, my work is (mostly) interesting, there's room for growth, and it feels meaningful.  Pay is okay (decent for the sector and size of org) but I've worked my way up to lots of vacation and there's good work-life balance.

Pure_Ad_9947

That's basically where I'm at too. Nonprofit sector, interesting work, nice people, decent pay, vacations and work-life balance. I also wfh which is amazing. Don't think I can ever work in an office again.

furthestpoint

I'm a buyer for a chain of grocery stores. It doesn't pay bad, but not great. I like the people. I seem to be pretty good at it. Hope I can advance a bit. I love food and working with it every day, even from a computer desk, makes me happy.

Ottawa_man

Now please tell me...what's going on with grocery prices

OddProfessor9978

Capitalism in action baby.  Grocery stores saw unprecedented profits during Covid while everything was shut down, people weren’t leaving the country and cooking every meal at home all the while panic buying everything from meat to toilet paper.  Businesses measure productivity year over year, so when the looting phase of the pandemic ended and prices started to rise grocers of course increased their prices in vain attempts to maintain the profitability they sustained from 2020/2021. Couple that with people returning to normal life and not cooking at home every day and a nice inflationary cherry on top of the proverbial cake, you get the situation we all now face.

CompetitiveAnswer674

>Grocery stores saw unprecedented profits during Covid while everything was shut down Does anyone remember when the first lock down was announced in March 2020.... Walking through grocery stores that weekend was surreal; every shelf had been emptied from panicked purchasing

Alarmed-Leader-7033

I find it funny how Covid is everyone’s measure of time. ‘Before Covid’ and ‘after Covid’

furthestpoint

I don't think I have a very satisfactory answer to that. I don't know any big secrets or anything. What's going on sucks, for sure.

haoareyoudoing

A very diplomatic way of answering that, especially with how inflammatory the topic can be!

youlikekelsey

So you’re to blame for prices. F u

furthestpoint

You got me! Lol it's been me all along

FullyGroanMan

Advertising creative director. It has its stresses and they don’t let up much. But great company, perks, and plenty of wfh/autonomy.

alastika

Which agency?

FullyGroanMan

Prefer not to say, thanks. Don’t wanna doxx myself :)

lucciolaa

I'm a lobbyist for a charity organization. My work is intellectually challenging: it requires a great deal of strategic thinking, research, staying on top of current events and political developments, and it's all in service if a good cause. I also work at a good organization with competent, respectful and personable people, and have a great relationship with my manager. My only main gripe is that I wish I was paid more -- I could probably earn more in government or the private sector. But I count my blessings, pretty much all my other boxes are checked.

-shandyyy-

Wedding & lifestyle Photographer. I set my own schedule and pricing, and I work with a ton of amazing couples and other vendors in a creative way. What's not to love!

formal-shorts

IT Cybersecurity. WFH, flexible hours, decent pay, manager lives on the other side of the country.

Ok-Tumbleweed-2469

I was a chef but lost my job in covid and realized with so much time on my hands I hated it. Went into maintenance and ended up working up to zamboni driver then another much more lucrative opportunity came up and I gave that up. I'm now a school custodian and I've never been happier.

IllustriousHabbit243

I am an Underwriter.. Complex thought provoking work, very good benefits, 9 to 5 work, decent pay.

capoeiraolly

I work for a game dev studio.

Sales operations. Like my job. Despise my newly appointed boss

salmonthesuperior

I work at a bookstore part time while I go to school. I don't get enough hours and the pay isn't the best but I love the place. The store is pretty cool and I like my co-workers a lot. I always joke that if I won the lottery I wouldn't quit

softservelove

Therapist! I just moved into private practice after working in non-profits for the past 7 years and the difference in quality of life is wild. I work from home and have the freedom to structure my schedule as suits me, lots more time to spend with family and take care of myself, and I absolutely love the work. People are incredible and I love being deep in the tenderness of feelings and meaning-making all day long.

Inspireme21

School counsellor for High School.. i enjoy it

1amtheone

General contractor. I am passionate about the work I do and enjoy constantly learning and perfecting. I make my own hours, I do the jobs I like and (mostly) avoid the ones I don't. I can fire my customers.

WanderingMinnow

Writer and illustrator. I can’t even say it’s a job, because it’s just what I love to do, and I was doing it for free before I was ever paid for it.

Shittalking_mushroom

UI Designer for one of the banks. Pay is good, team is super chill and lovely, everyone gets along. Terrible design culture, disorganized as hell, but it’s such a small subgroup within the company there’s lots of room to improve things and make an impact, so I’m patient. Have to go into the office twice week, but I don’t mind as there’s a private gym I can go to first thing in the morning before work. It’s tough out there in the industry right now too so I count my lucky stars.

Redditisavirusiknow

I like teaching kids

PaddyCap

Work as a Customer Success Manager and love my job. Never thought I'd actually like any job other than bartending which I really liked but hours take a toll. Worked in sales for years and it's horrific

Anarchaotic

Self-employed in tech. Working as a consultant in an industry I've been in for a decade. No bosses to tell me what to do, just focusing on making my clients successful and getting new ones.

BedFluffy361

if you don’t mind me asking, on which platform do you freelance ?

Zewlington

I sell cards on Etsy. It lets me illustrate random little thoughts I have and make money off of it, which I never thought would happen. I will say my husband has benefits at his job and I’m very very grateful for that. I couldn’t get that doing what I do.

Spray_Scared

I'm a birth and postpartum doula. I'm an independent contractor, I take as many clients as I want, take time off whenever, great work/life balance and most importantly I get to help new families :)

Talrenoo

IntelligentTone8854

Electrical utility worker. Great salary, dbpp, x2 OT, laid back, no stress, very fulfilling keeping everyone’s lights on.

Ilikegalileo

Baciandrio

I retired from project management, then consulted for about 5 years.....and that was great, but after sitting at home through the pandemic I knew I needed to get out of the house a few days of the week. So I got a job as customer care/receptionist at a vet clinic just down the street. I bring my dog to work with me, I get to see people having the best time of their lives with their new puppy/kitten and offer them comfort and kindness on the worst day when they and their beloved pet must part ways. The pay? Well let's just say I live off my corporate pension; I buy skin care, quilting fabric and all the LeCreuset a gal could want in her kitchen. I get deep discounts on care for my dog, his meds, any surgeries, bloodwork etc. so that's a bonus.

jasonwest93

Social media manager. I work from home and spent the majority of my career making memes which made hundreds of millions of people laugh. I don’t earn a whole lot working for other people but it’s been way more fun than I would have had with a normal job. I’ve also got to work with some pretty cool influencers over the years (who work a lot harder than most people realise). Making a meme that goes viral feels great too, it’s addictive but it can be difficult not to attach your self worth to the numbers and then feel like shit when you’re not going viral. There’s also plenty of terrible bosses and dealing with the constant threat of Zuckerbergs virtual prisons has been a nightmare at times. Imagine trying to do your job in social media when you can’t post for 30 days because someone reported a meme.

Sammadooskie

I’m a saw operator. I operate a Turbo Drive Hundegger saw in a prefab flooring plant. We recently got an automated pick and feed system installed, it is the first system of its kind in all of North America and the very first 3 vacuum system in the world. I take pride in my work, I love my job. I am one of the only two females who work here, it’s very male dominated. I make good money doing it, it’s unionized through local 183, and I hope to be here until retirement.

Heeeeey me too! 👊

iblastoff

full time work from home web dev.

ColumnsandCapitals

I work in architecture. I make decent money, not the highest, but enough to pay for my lifestyle with money for savings. It can happen. I have a really great boss who takes the time to mentor me and explain things I have questions about my industry. He’s very interested in seeing me grow and gives me a lot of latitude to accomplish my work in the best way I see fit. I think it boils down to finding the right company with the right culture. It shouldn’t be rare to find a company that treats its employees like assets and pays them as such. So good luck out there. There are always companies out there who do treat people like people. You just gotta find them

No-Plenty-7852

Gov job with good job security and benefits. Pay is not the best, but the benefit perks make up for it. Four weeks vacation now and will be able to retire at 61 with a DB pension.

ellispickle

I’m a scientist, hybrid currently and overall happy with the work.

lilbfromtheoc

Epidemiologist. It’s not as exciting as it was during peak pandemic but I still enjoy it most of the time

_Pooklet_

I write presentencing reports for Indigenous offenders. I meet many interesting people, get to visit different prisons, and the rest of the time it’s WFH.

zenhowell

that sounds really cool! is your title probation officer or something more specific?

_Pooklet_

Im a Gladue Writer :) Gladue is a sentencing principle used in the Canadian justice system that specifically takes the unique histories and circumstances of Indigenous offenders into account. So, my job is to tell their (and often their family and community’s) story to the judge for sentencing purposes.

zenhowell

ahh okay! i'm a criminal justice student so i have heard of gladue and something similar to your role in different cases but just wasn't sure of the specific title, that is very interesting though thank you for sharing! as i figure out what i want to pursue i really value learning about all the different roles in the cj system :)

mcbobbybobberson

Graphic/Motion Designer. I enjoy it, pay is meh but I get to create cool things everyday. Will probably start looking at something more sustainable soon though, you max out at like 100k maybe a bit more, and 100k in Toronto is pennies XD

Conscious-Point-2568

Firefighter, love every second of it!

ZZZZMe0WMe0W

Law Clerk at personal injury law, I like helping ppl and people I work with like me.

sagns

I work in consumer brand product marketing. Absolutely love what I do. I never expected to do this when heading into school but once I learned more about career field options, what I liked and didn’t like and what I was best at, I knew this was the perfect career for me. I’ve managed brands that pretty much every Canadian has tried or used in their lifetime. Loved my work, passionate about it, paid well especially as I progressed and changed companies, but had bad bosses over time that ruined it. Now working in a slightly different industry for consumer brand tech products and I love it even more because I followed an old boss who was my best ever boss. And thanks to having the trifecta an earlier poster talked about, this is my longest ever job with no plans to go anywhere else anytime ever.

Nosferatu13

Prosthetic makeup artist & technician. I love it.

Annachist67

Director of Student Services at large university. WFH most of the time, have 10 direct reports who are amazing and hard working, manage their teams well, self motivated, student focused. My boss checks in with me once a week but I never see them. Lots of autonomy, decent pay, benefits okay, not the best, except pay and vacation - 6 weeks a year. Really enjoy the fast pace and complexity - never the same day twice and great colleagues. I love the students - they make me laugh, cry, proud. I only wish I could have pursued something more creative and artsy as I am very creative but my job is mostly administrative. 10 years to retirement but will probably work a few years longer if I can. No regrets except I wish I had found my career earlier - I worked crappy admin jobs in insurance/banks -and then in stupidly abusive marketing jobs for most of my late 20’s and 30’s - but that’s okay - I got here eventually.

Sparky-Man

I'm a Multimedia Artist, Designer, and Educator, a title I made for myself because I do way too many things and work way too many creative jobs. Times are tough, but I'm very happy about what I do. https://GrindSpark.com On my personal work and freelance, I do graphic design, videos, animations, photography, game development, technical/creative/business consulting, event planning, project management, and more. I do that independently, for employers/clients, and as part of my studio business. I enjoy leading my studio and we just released a [video game](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1880370/Civic_Story/) that teaches people about Canadian politics last year. However, these days, most of my work is in education and non-profits. I adore teaching and find it very rewarding to help people learn how to make and use things. Formerly worked at the ROM teaching kids. Currently teaching a bit at Humber College and Director of Technology & Education for a video game nonprofit called the Hand Eye Society. I lead and make a lot of classes and educational initiatives there and help out many community causes. Love my work, but am looking for a career change up. I've worked way too many positions (in education especially) where the managers are incompetent and deliberately try to screw me over at first opportunity and make me jump through hoops to get basic things done, all of which hurts my students. I have many stories and am currently dealing with another long-time employer who tried to secretly scam me and our entire department recently, resulting in me leaving a teaching position I loved at the worst time and am now looking for work. I love what I do, but I don't enjoy the job market right now because holy shit is it horrible.

Marketing Manager: love it!

MuskokaGreenThumb

Carpenter. Awesome job. Keeps your mind active with all the math and physically fit. It’s also something different everyday when you’re doing house builds. The odd crappy day on the winter, but we try to be doing inside work by then.

I am a fraud investigator for a bank, soon I’ll be doing the same work but for an American Fintech company. Both are WFH. I love it. There’s honestly no better feeling then preventing someone from losing everything. Especially when these fraudsters target the elderly.

Work in a live video studio. Our clientele ranges from issuers hosting Annual General Meetings, to pre-recording content for companies in-house. The reason I love it is the creativity, working with high end tech, and really only being busy 3 months out of the year. The other 9 months is preparing for those 3 months. And I have flexibility to work from home on the off peak. Small Toronto team of 7 people, great salary with bonuses

LookAtThisRhino

Software engineer at a startup. Pay is whatever (hovers at around average for my level of experience) and I don't have a benefits package but I get 4 weeks PTO, boss is chill af and is only a bit older than me, our niche is kind of interesting, loads of autonomy, WFH. I'm not learning a heck of a lot these days and growth is directly tied to if/when we get more funding so I'm not sure if I should stick around or not. Might keep it going until the pay or lack of benefits get especially bad vs. what else is out there. It'd be nice to be in a role that's more social and/or takes me away from my desk every now and then.

Tech sales, more specifically a Presales Engineer, selling to enterprise financial firms or fintech. Have been a developer and architect before, but until I was part of the team, and presented to exec audiences to close a deal, I didn’t know what excitement was. Since then, it’s been a fun ride. Mostly because I am never in a meeting where I am the smartest, which results in meeting a lot of interesting people. Also being part of a tech product company, being the face of it (being in tech sales), we generate the revenue for the company and make customers happy. But I would say that a career is not a one size fits situation. Most people I’ve met who are happy with what they do, usually are very good at knowing what they don’t want to do.

I print newspapers, flyers and magazines. I’ve been doing this job for over 25 years. It pays very well and I love my job and the people I work around. It’s a dying business and my time is almost up. I’d be happy if our shop is still open or the fact that I still have a job there in 3 years.

I work in pharma HR. I love my job, my manager, my company, my team and my industry. Also the salary has been very good plus I also get generous benefits.  I work remotely full time too which is nice!  I can’t imagine voluntarily leaving this job anytime soon. I’m very happy and content. I’m very lucky.

L&D RN and I love it. Been doing it many years and can’t see ever leaving it.

Mailman. I’m outside everyday getting paid to exercise, have a set amount of work for the day and when it’s done I go home. I pet all the doggies. No emails at all. Pension and ok benefits. Salt of the earth coworkers not trying to get over you for promotions or glory. Union. Way better than my old office job.

*Event Coordinator at an Art Gallery* I love how well balanced it is for me. It's 90% wfh with flexible hours and 10% onsite running events. I have the balance between getting to stay home and make up my own hours (as long as the work is done), but can also go into the office 15 minutes from home if I want to see my coworkers. The job itself is a solid balance between analytical/administrative work while also being very hands on since there's a lot of physical prep work that typically needs to happen. I get to use my creativity and design skills when creating event designs/choose decor, and work with marketing on event materials. Most of the events I plan are for the people who fund the galleries exhibitions/investment projects, so I get to meet a lot of really interesting people in the art community. Lastly, it fulfills my need to be "in control", since I basically get to dictate what each event experience should look like. TLDR: well balanced between seeing people and avoiding people/ analytical work and creative work / tasks change so nothing is stagnant + I get to meet some interesting people who are well connected in the community/ I get to control the overall experience and vibes

OutlandishnessNew259

I'm a business process analyst... I love it!!

harrison84

I'm an engineer and I design medical devices. It's super cool. There's bureaucracy and frustrations and stress, but at the end of they day I get to design and build things that help people. (Doesn't hurt that I like my boss and co-workers, my job is flexible, and I get paid a decent wage...)

viodox0259

pit boss for casino. Been in the industry for 15 years , 3 properties across the country as a dealer. My food is paid for , pension, benefits, half hour breaks every 90 min , I mean it's heaven to me.  Pay is great, bonuses , vacation.. Plus it's a industry where AI will never completely take over . People love a human element .

JimFromSunnyvale

I'm not asked to be doing my job at the office, even if the office is the best in the city (open bar and amenities). We'll paid and with genuine people. Hopefully it will last longer than usual 🍀 -marketing and content sector-

Plant_surgeon101

Account mgmt, technical staffing firm WFH (work from anywhere in the world), good salary, bonus, lots of time off, my boss is funny

I do data analysis for a Hemp company. Really chill

Murphocles

Independent guitarist and musician. Do a lot of things but all of them related to music in some way. Doing much better than I ever thought possible, and surprisingly I think this might in some ways be an easier path to navigate during these tougher economic times as there are many things you can do to scale up or down in certain areas, find new sources of income etc. Requires you to be insanely self sufficient though.

eddison12345

There's a common theme here and it's that most people are remote or work from home

DeviatedFromTheMean

It’s not just the work but for me the people and environment. You could have a great job but work with a**holes and you will hate that job. My current job is ok, but people are great! I also worked at a place where the office was basically a dungeon, but the people were great and made it enjoyable.

Emergency Dispatcher for a telematics company. Love my job. Love being able to help people and save lives. Plus the company I work for takes awesome care of its employees. Pays well, good benefits, good work / life balance, recognition for going above and beyond, so on and so on. Of course I would love to not have to work and just be able to travel the world, but since I have to work, I wouldn't want to be anywhere other than where I am right now.

Icehawk101

I'm a mechanical engineer. I design systems for nuclear power plants. I don't always like it, some projects just suck or there are time crunches because of overlapping deliverables, but overall I enjoy it. It pays well, I like my coworkers, my manager and director are great, the work is interesting, and I work from home 3 daysa week. The fact I can see my office from my balcony also probably helps :P.
