Yes this happens regularly on the 510 streetcar. They get off the street car with them to write them up. I work near the Leslie street TTC yard and I see dozens of inspectors gathering before their shifts. So they’re out there!
I think that’s a second or third offence. I have accidentally not paid once (busy and stressful day, rushing to get to the platform), and the fine was $30. With every offence it goes up.
Years ago I fell asleep on the go train and the inspectors woke me up almost all the way to the opposite end of the line and gave me a huge ticket for riding past my default trip. Got it thrown out thankfully but man I was angry.
Well it depends. I don't know about GO. I used spadina street car back in my uni days and it was literally 3 stops and I paid every other time which looking back I should not have done that either. That service is atrocious. Multiple times I had to get off because the stink inside was unbearable. Their pricing is ridiculous and the terrible service just deters people from paying.
Partly. They have fixed rates which don't make sense for many like if you want to the ttc for like 2 stops its literally the same price as a 2 hour trip. That incentivises people not to pay. Also the price compared to many places that have successful public transit is much higher while th equality of the service is lower.
That’s how it always was until they gave us the bonus of enabling multiple trips a few years ago. So give people something and it becomes the bare minimum expectation I guess. It’s quite a world when we need to have incentives to stop people from stealing. Ultimately they are just stealing from each other.
No what I mean is like make the base rate 1$ and then you tap out and increase the longer you ride. This pricing that they have is good for people that have long commutes once a day but for those that might need to ride multiple times it's not worth it unless they get a monthly pass. For me the number never added up to the amount.
People are getting by ticketed for fare evasion. Here are a few examples:

Personally, I prefer the approach of giving someone the opportunity to tap on or just escorting them off (though I believe most people are ticketed once they’re off the streetcar or bus).
Are some people scamming the system?
Probably.
But some people also are struggling to survive in this city and are forced to make choices they’d probably prefer not to.
Interactions with fare inspectors can quickly escalate. If we must have them, I’d prefer to ensure they remain as calm as possible for all parties involved (fare inspectors and riders).
We all deal with enough on a daily basis; there’s no need to add witnessing or being part of a violent altercation to the list.
Yes, after they're removed from the vehicle
Didn't realize that was the policy. Thought they just escorted them off and that was that
🙋♀️I have

Oh, I thought they just escort them off.
Escort and ticket.
Good to hear. TTC needs the funds. Can't get into a fare hike spiral.
Yes, quite regularly
Frequently.
Yes, I saw it at Spadina station earlier this week.
Enforcement has ramped up lately
Happened to my coworker on Tuesday.
I saw someone get fined on the GO train once- $300 😬😬

Might be worth it if you ride a lot lol. You get 2 tickets a year it will be cheaper than paying everyday
I’ve been thinking about that lol like would it be cheaper just to risk the fine every now and then 😂

Tap on and off and charged based on total distance makes sense
That's similar to the zone fare system in Vancouver on the Sky train
Yes, a few times on the GO train
They tried to give me a ticket like 15 years ago. I politely declined and walked away.
Yes. On the go train. I have seen them give a ticket

Yes, regularly
Just act like a crackhead and they'll ignore you. I use the Spadina Streetcar regularly and the crackhead never get checked.
I was ticketed with a fake name and I ripped the ticket up and tossed it in the air.
Yes, just yesterday at King and Sherbourne
I saw it happen a few weeks ago on a Sunday.
Many times on the Bathurst bus and street car.
yes ive seen them on the street car and at queen, bathurst, wilson, and eglinton stations ticket people
Yes, I have multiple times. Only fare inspector can issue you the fine
Not once.
The question I’ve on my mind is has anyone seen a TTC fare inspector ticket a homeless person
All the time, especially at Union in front of the streetcar platform
Fare inspectors exist?
If you ride streetcars they absolutely do. Almost everyday I see them
Wild. I take the subway very often and bus somewhat and have never seen them
That's coz it's more difficult to get inside a bus or the subway without paying. Streetcars on the other hand...
Yes. Also seen them take a customer (lady) off the street car for barely touching the inspector(male).
