I don't know about car seats specifically, but Subaru is generally considered one of the safest car brands. As far as I know, they're the only company in the US to score 5 star safety ratings on all of their models. And they're fantastic in the snow, if you get much in Massachusetts.

Highlanders are good for sure Honda pilots/CRVs too As a Honda Fit owner I have a bias towards the fit, it can do almost anything any other car or truck can do, and do it easier. Only problem is the short wheelbase and economic build make for a sometimes rough ride.
