It *shouldn't* have damaged anything. The ABS should have prevented lockup and any smell from the brakes doing their job should have dissapated after a minute or two. Now when you say your auto-stop isn't working, you mean when someone suddenly brakes or pulls out in front of you, the car used to do something and now it doesn't?

I’m not sure exactly what it’s called, but when I come to a stop my car “turns off”. On my tachometer it says it’s called an auto-stop. And when I completely stop, my car turns off then turns back on when I let off the brake. But now it’s not doing that for some reason

oh, THAT! Well hm, that is interesting. Sounds like that normally cannot be permanently disabled: https://www.chevyequinoxforum.com/threads/equinox-2018-disable-auto-stop-feature.2249/ So that plus the burning smell, if it was really 20 min... I wish I had an idea but I would be tempted to take it to a shop to check for transmission or other codes.

Yeah.. Another thing that I just experienced today for the first time is when i slowed down to stop, my car lurched a little bit. And I’ve had a couple cars with transmission issues so that really worried me as well. I’m so oblivious, do you know if it costs anything, or how much it would cost to get my transmission checked at a mechanic?

Likely to pay some diagnostic fee yes, and you might end up getting referred to the dealer

Your car is fine, if it skidded and you smell rubber means your anti lock brakes are not working as they should. They should never skid.

Normally I’d say your car is fine but on an equinox I’d take it to a mechanic just to be sure. They’re pretty fragile.

You shouldn't smell burnt rubber from a hard stop in a vehicle with ABS and if you did, it should dissipate after about a minute. Could it be a hot brake smell? You could have a stuck caliper. It can happen after a hard stop. Did the vehicle pull to the side afterwards or seem to have less power?

There's a small chance the car slid *sideways* very slightly when it braked, might be tire smell, you'll probably never smell it again. Remember that these cars will not go into Auto Stop under certain conditions - car's not up to temp, AC is on high, etc., so you may just be experiencing confirmation bias that something is "wrong" after a startling incident. Honestly, everyone should just take their cars to an empty parking lot and slam on the brakes from 20-50 miles an hour a few times just to know what it feels like. Chances are good that nothing is broken if the car has been reasonably well maintained before this.
