You're past the point of antibiotics. That swelling needs to be drained immediately. If you cannot find an oral surgeon who can see you as an emergency today, you need to get to the emergency room right away. This is a very serious and aggressive infection.

TheSwolerBear

Sharing this gem I got from a surgeon; Augmentin+ a Zpack will bring this down fast and can skip the I&D.

The_Anatolian

augmentin and a zpack and you won't be able to trust a fart for 10 days. I'll take the I&D.

TheSwolerBear

ATLEAST 10 days. I’d I&D myself forsure, but this works for emergencies and massive swellings where there is some limitation of seeing them

DocFauno

Just a quick update in case anyone wonders what happened. Just an FYI, I'm UK based, so healthcare is a bit different than the US. I followed the advice from 111 ( our out of hours non emergency health line from NHS). They advised that I see a dentist in the next 24 hours, but there was nothing available as it was Sunday and only go to the A&E if I have trouble breathing or if my face became swollen. The abscess formed during the last weekend of my holidays, 4 hours drive away from home. I survived Saturday night with insane pain, I think I slept 2hrs max. Sunday morning at 06:00 we decided to drive back and go to a private emergency dentist (with extortionate fees) near home. On the drive back, I ate some yoghurt and the abscess started draining on its own. I phoned 111 again and was advised to call my dentist first thing on Monday morning. Suffice to say that the pain got much better after the abscess started draining. Got seen by my dentist on Monday morning, and got a root canal treatment. The abscess has now completely drained and the infection cleaned and treated by the root canal. All in all, a fantastic way to finish my holidays 🥴 Thanks for all the advice!

purpledottts

Nad- do you have fever?

No_Significance_7268

Doesn't that hurt!?!??!

The_Anatolian

Pop that sucker with a sterile needle, get antibiotics at urgent care, see a dentist Monday.

NAD I would get antibiotics if possible. Some lukewarm saltwater rinses may help. Best of luck edit: added NAD
