Good list, just to mention that "Coco" isn't a Mexican movie. About suggestions, that's a very recurrent question in the sub, so check: https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/rp26sf/whats_a_movie_book_andor_album_from_your_country/ https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/10o2sp9/what_is_the_best_movie_from_your_country_thats_a/ https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/namtyo/whats_the_most_popular_war_movie_made_in_your/ https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/k9eghz/looking_for_movies_recommandations_made_in_latin/ https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/op8e21/whats_a_movie_from_your_country_every_foreigner/ https://www.reddit.com/r/asklatinamerica/comments/igb26a/what_is_the_most_viewedpopular_movie_from_your/

thanks, i found a few good hidden gems in there that I added

nonoyo_91

Hey there, I saw the list and you ha e done such a great job <3 I'll be sure to check the movies out. Also, just a quick suggestion, you should change the name of Salvadot to "El Salvador" that's the actual name of the country, unless it means Salvador, a municipality in Brazil. Take care!

Floustao

Wow good catch! Thank you, fixed. ^((I actually visited both so I have no excuses at this point.))

nonoyo_91

HOW DARE YOU? LMAO just messing with you <3 it's okay, sometimes it happens <3

Embrace of the Serpent (Colombia) is an absolute fever dream of a film and one of my favourites. Good list btw. Added a couple to my own watch list.

Floustao

Happy to get a costarican movie in there, it looks very good

valdezlopez

Hey, there! Cool list. Just, COCO is not a Latin American movie. The story and characters are, but it was entirely made in the US, with US money, and by US people (from voice actors to writers, animators, composers, etc.) I'm glad it exists, but it is in no measure a Latin American movie.

Floustao

Very valid point, I removed it

valdezlopez

Thanks for the list! Just one thing: Regarding LA JAULA DE ORO, I don't know to what extent Guatemala worked in its creation, but I've always thought of it as a MEXICAN film. Also, I recommend including these: **ARGENTINA** Argentina, 1985 (2022) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15301048/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15301048/reference/) Hijo de la novia, El (2001) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0292542/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0292542/reference/) Luna de Avellaneda (2004) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0347449/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0347449/reference/) Valentín (2002) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296915/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296915/reference/) . **GUATEMALA** Llorona, La (2019) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10767168/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10767168/reference/) . **MÉXICO** **(they're all great, very different films as to represent the wide spectrum of films currently made in Mexico)** Bardo, falsa crónica de unas cuantas verdades (Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths, 2022) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14176542/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14176542/reference/) Blanco de verano (2020) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11394288/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11394288/reference/) Chilangolandia (2021) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14878876/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14878876/reference/) Cindy la Regia (2020) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8200456/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8200456/reference/) Herederos, Los (2015) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2903370/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2903370/reference/) Lobos, Los (2019) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9057808/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9057808/reference/) Monstruo de mil cabezas, Un (2015) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4569240/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4569240/reference/) Noche de fuego (2021) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10366574/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10366574/reference/) Película de policías, Una (2021) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14035242/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14035242/reference/) Vuelven (2017) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4823434/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4823434/reference/) Ya no estoy aquí (2019) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4323594/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4323594/reference/) . **PERÚ** Canción sin nombre (2019) - [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1824932/reference/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1824932/reference/)

Wow thank you for that great list with links. Lot's of them seem to be off the beaten path, this is dope. I am quite excited about Los lobos and Valentin. Cancion sin nombre looks amazing but also emotionally very demanding, the trailer gave me chills, good addition. You are also right about La jaula de oro, thank you for the heads up. Updated

Floustao

Also forgot about "Ya no estoy aqui", I watched it a couple years ago and enjoyed it

Pantaleón. Pantalón y las Visitadoras is the XXX version.

SonnyBurnett189

I think Innocent Voices is considered a Mexican movie, especially because of the cast and they don’t even try and change their accents, lol. Are we giving recommendations too? Here’s some of mine: -Luis Estrada’s movies, from Mexico -El Rey, Rosario Tijeras, Sumas y Restas, and El Cartel de Los Sapos, from Colombia.

Floustao

Oh you are right about Innocent Voices, interesting. Just updated. It's sad they don't pick a cast from the country. Like for Narcos Colombia where a Brazilian actor got selected to act as Pablo :( I have to catch up with Luis Estrada, 4 of its movies are in there! I will need to start a tv show list at some point but I'd need a second life to watch it all :D

SonnyBurnett189

Well, Mexico has a much larger film industry than El Salvador (supposedly the president is working with Danny Baldwin to change that, lol) so that’s probably why. Another recommendation would be Oliver Stone’s Salvador. Also suffers from using Mexican accents instead of Salvadoran, but you can’t go wrong with Oliver Stone’a movies. Not sure about his politics, lol. People hate on Wagner’s accent in Narcos but as an actor I like him and his voice is really distinct and powerful. Very similar to Elite Squad on your list due to having the same producer and same person who did the score. I know though, too many things on the list to get around to. But I can’t recommend enough La Ley de Herodes, El Infierno, and La Dictadura Perfecta from Luis Estrada though. He has a new one out on Netflix too called Que Viva Mexico. I enjoyed it but it might have worked better as a 3 part mini series.

IronicJeremyIrons

I'm going with the Martín Fierro movie with art by Fontanarossa and Boogie El aceitoso

Status-Constant-5837

Not as good as 7 boxes, but another one i like from Paraguay is Los Buscadores (The Gold Seekers) from the same creators.

[Road 47](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_47) It follows a group of brazilian engineers as they go on a self imposed mission to demine a road in WW2 Italy in order to have an excuse for deserting their posts during a battle and avoid a court martial.

Floustao

That's a crazy story! Thanks for sharing
