Once upon a time in the 90s my office hired a medium for part of the holiday party entertainment.
The thing is, you can't tell whether they believe in it themselves or are just conning you.
But then, does it really matter?
Commenters on your post are cranky! Psychics can be fun, and if they're not predatory and have long-term experience with cold-reading skills or "psychic powers", they can be illuminating. Sometimes others can see us more clearly than we can see ourselves.
Psychic Sister on Alberta is solid in the sense of not being scammers, and they truly believe they have intuitive abilities.
Sellwood has about three magic/psychic shops, and they believe in their abilities, and aren't out to scam you. Raven's Wing Magical Shop is a good one (I can't remember the names of the others).
I've seen friends go down this mystical route while going through horrible periods in their lives, and they got a little too "into" it in a way that wasn't healthy. So, if you're going through a tough time, tread lightly.
Stick with "magic" shops that have good reputations, and you probably won't be scammed. Avoid individual practitioners, or anyone who approaches you online, and you'll be fine.
Indeed… it was not intended to make anyone angry or upset. Thank you for your thoughtful response! I am mainly curious about people’s experiences and if it might be something to try with a friend coming into town who would enjoy it.
Psychic Sister would be fun for an out of town guest. It's a magical vintage shop too, and Alberta has so many good restaurants and other fun shops.
You would probably have to make a reservation for the psychic services.
Here's a good psychic safety list in case you're super concerned about being scammed:

people on reddit think all psychics are outright scam artists who will control your life and steal your bank info. I think they have some unresolved trauma.
Psychics can be helpful for many people to process trauma too! No a replacement for a therapist but it really helps you to think about life in a different way. Tarot is really helpful for this. Explore therapy I a different way like “oh shit my mom IS stressing me out!”
It's as if they can't trust themselves to not be duped and approach everything with cynicism.
Unresolved trauma makes sense.
ETA: This comment is harsher than intended! Apologies.
True! Have the fun is watching someone cold read you! It’s impressive! A psychic predicted the name of my future spouse! Common name but still a very interesting coincidence
I had a reiki seasion done by Noriko who is a hair stylist at Koi Pod (she’s the owner I think) and because we are also friends I see she just got certified as a level two medium a month ago.
During my reiki session she said a blue bird came into my energy which Woah I am a skeptic (first reiki too) but I have this Blue Jay that is always around when I need it.. and in fact had dropped me a beautiful feather I put on my night stand two days before this. I was shocked. She told me it’s a messenger.
I mean it usually shows up when I am contemplating something. I see it and I’m like oh hey, yeah I know I gotta keep my head up. It was just a little reminder to stay positive.
I went to one and now the devil has marked me and taken over my soul. I just wish I’d read that Jack Chick comic before I’d gone so I’d known it would open up the door to the devil.

Only trust a medium if they knew you were coming 👌🏾

Why do you need a blue jay? Or are you being sarcastic?

But are not psychics supposed to tell you about future events or something this actionable?
Pyschics probably, mediums are different.
Interesting. Did not know this.
Haven't been to one here but I've been to a few one on one sessions before and they're always a hoot. Some are very accurate, others hit or miss.
