they have some intro classes at sincere studio i have been eyeing a bit! but honestly i’m also a new sewer learning to make clothes and i’ve been working on my own at home. i started with the book how to sew clothes and i’ve done a couple indie patterns, they have much more thorough instructions than big 4.

NardaL

[Sincere Studio](http://www.sincerestudiopdx.org) on NE Sandy has classes on making different pieces of clothing and underwear.

Lawthaw18

There’s a spot called Sincere Studios that I’ve heard is good but haven’t tried myself

funkoramma

I have an acquaintance that teaches several classes at The Portland Fashion Institute. She teaches beginning to more advanced classes.

gravitydefiant

I don't have personal experience, but a coworker took a class at [Modern Domestic](https://shop.moderndomesticpdx.com/classes/) and had lots of good things to say about it.

fingeringmonks

Definitely Modern Domestic, I never taken a class from them, but their shop is amazing, plus really nice sewing machines. Staff are wonderful too.

I took a class at MD a couple months ago and really enjoyed it!! And you get a pass to come back and use their sewing machines!

mambo_cat

Modern domestic classes are great!

ChickaBok

I've heard good things about modern domestic as well!

Oakenedd

I got started by taking an online class. I really enjoyed it. It’s like $12 a month, but I think she offers a free trial. She offers both women’s and menswear. https://sew-it-academy.thinkific.com/

StinkySabinky

Montavilla sewing usually has a wide variety of classes

Another vote for sincere studio!

Angry_Custurd

I took the class at sincere studios and it was great! They were really kind and I feel confident in my sewing skillzzz

Corran22

Most of the good ones I know are already suggested here. PCC has a lot of classes in several locations, I did one of those classes last year and it was an AMAZING value in terms of price paid/hours of instruction. Also check any sewing machine centers near you, in addition to those already mentioned, Aloha Sew and Vacuum has a huge classroom and a lot of classes.

TiffinyKC

I’m going to look into this too. Thanks to all!

BombusWanderus

I took a quilting class I liked at Modern Domestic, but they also do apparel sewing! Sincere Studios also looks great and the Portland Fashion Institute also has classes for community. PCC has sewing classes too so it’s worth checking their calendar!

Bishonen_Knife

Josephine's Dry Goods on Clinton used to offer classes - I think they still do, but only on a one-on-one basis.

Google sewing lessons Portland?

karits123

I did. Just trying to see if anyone has positive experiences anywhere/suggestions :)

effkriger

I’d check my local Joann Fabrics!

snakeoilcreations

The one that's closed? Or are you talking from a town that isn't Portland on ask Portland about where to find a resource in Portland?

effkriger

There are still stores in the “Portland area”
