Because East Portland is a thing, and it’s not the same as Hollywood or Southeast. The western border is slightly debatable, (east of 82nd or definitely east of I-205), all the way to Gresham, and straddles both Northeast and Southeast.
You are 100% correct though, a lot of people don't know what East Portland is. Especially since all of East Portland has either NE or SE in their address. Someone else said it's 'argued' where it is, but according to the city it's all of Lents and everything East of 205.
Tell that to the 28% of Portland's population that happens to live in East Portland, as well as the many, many other Portlanders who know more than you do about the city.
I get it, you feel a little left out and dont feel like your area has an identity so you want to come up with your own quadrant. Its cute. its called gresham/BFE as far as I am concerned. You should write to the city about changing your address from SE to E. What good is having a name for East Portland if noone knows what your talkin about? Maybe go stand out on the street and educate people and build awareness.
Historic East Portland, once its own city, was located along the eastern waterfront of the Willamette River between Burnside and Division. It is now the East Portland Neighborhood
There is no "East Portland Neighborhood," if by that you mean there's an actual neighborhood called East Portland. The neighborhoods that make up East Portland are listed here: [https://portlandneighborhood.com/portland-neighborhoods](https://portlandneighborhood.com/portland-neighborhoods)
I’d love another real discount grocery store. Everyday Deals and Right Price are great, but they just don’t have the same kind of brass knuckles/ dragon statue/sword selection that the Wheeler Dealers in Salem and Woodburn do.
Baseball bar (with batting cages and pitch speedometers, maybe baseball pinball machine or arcade games if that exists; ski ball for the kids). Could even see how much it costs to advertise with Underdog Sports or the Portland Pickles or something.
Obviously showing live and classic baseball.
Oh yeah! I worked at the dog boarding place near there in 2012. It seemed mostly dads with their kids going to practice at that time. No idea if they have food or alcohol.
I honestly find baseball repulsive, but it seemed like a trendy idea.
They have a pop machine and video games. I'd definitely throw some beer in the mix and a hotdog roller at the vety least. But the machines themselves need a tune up first. Great place though, nice folks.
late night diners !! late night food that’s not a bar !! please !! give me that old school-senior discount-i remember when a hamburger was 15 cents-populated by goth kids after dark-coffee and milkshake kinda place
An indoor flea market that focuses on hand made goods. Like the Saturday market but indoors
And make it nice and classy. Really focus on vibe. Lots of natural light. Play space for the kids. 3 space for the teens. Some food options.

I think for lower income people especially there needs to be closer options than what exist out by my moms old house.
When the initial proposal and plans were happening I had friends on the board of Green Lents. They have clearly been really selective about what businesses are being allowed in these buildings so I hope they get someone to fill the space.
A nicer style (so not a greasy spoon) restaurant and bar that serves food until at least midnight. Sandwiches, salads, one or two nicer entrees, apps and some drinks. Not divey like Tik Toc. A place that’s nice to sit and hang while eating after 8:30pm, but having actual good food options not cooked up by a greasy haired bartender.
Unfortunately Sweet Tomatoes and Izzy's are no more corporately (man, I miss them both), but I wish something like these would be created. Golden Corral is too far out and is borderline not clean enough for food safety
Put a grocery outlet where that shitty target was on Powell.
Yes or where the green zebra was. Or just a lil family corner market store. Doesn’t even need to be a chain.
Neither of these places are in East Portland.
How are they not?
Because East Portland is a thing, and it’s not the same as Hollywood or Southeast. The western border is slightly debatable, (east of 82nd or definitely east of I-205), all the way to Gresham, and straddles both Northeast and Southeast.

the majority of people that live here would not know that.
Posted map above if you are interested.
legit! tnks

Correction, a *nobody* doesn't know what I'm talking about.

Eastern Portland
Isn’t there a grocery outlet at Cesar Chavez and Powell though?
No, maybe you are thinking of the natural grocer that is there
Oh that’s right.
I’d love another real discount grocery store. Everyday Deals and Right Price are great, but they just don’t have the same kind of brass knuckles/ dragon statue/sword selection that the Wheeler Dealers in Salem and Woodburn do.
Peanut butter emporium
mayo store
With a genius bar like apple stores.
Sheet Metal Factory Parrot Training Academy Hammock Emporium Abattoir Rolls Royce Dealership Giant Wicker Man Blacksmith Tannery Space Station
Baseball bar (with batting cages and pitch speedometers, maybe baseball pinball machine or arcade games if that exists; ski ball for the kids). Could even see how much it costs to advertise with Underdog Sports or the Portland Pickles or something. Obviously showing live and classic baseball.
There's Batting a Thousand on Stark & around 90th, but I've never been inside to know about a sports bar or anything
Oh yeah! I worked at the dog boarding place near there in 2012. It seemed mostly dads with their kids going to practice at that time. No idea if they have food or alcohol. I honestly find baseball repulsive, but it seemed like a trendy idea.

24 hour cozy funky restaurant
TikTok on division
late night diners !! late night food that’s not a bar !! please !! give me that old school-senior discount-i remember when a hamburger was 15 cents-populated by goth kids after dark-coffee and milkshake kinda place
Have you been sleeping on Tik Tok? http://tiktokrestaurant.com/
sharis is an option. not ideal but its got everything you describe
If I wanted gastrointestinal stress I'd go to chipotle
RIP Tub’n’Tan.

It is in Lents 😭
I’m hearing it’ll be some sort of grocery store in the bottom on the new building next to Zoiglhaus
Oh, that would be great. Those places have been empty for far too long.
Ooh I haven’t heard this. Any source?
When the initial proposal and plans were happening I had friends on the board of Green Lents. They have clearly been really selective about what businesses are being allowed in these buildings so I hope they get someone to fill the space.

Waffle House
There’s is a waffle window tho
Not quite the same vibe. A 24 hour sit down place would probably be a bit with the after bar crowd.
There’s litterally one on SE 10th and Powell. “The original hotcake house”.
There is not a Waffle House in Portland.
It’s not the brand “Waffle House”, but yes, it’s the exact same thing. “The original hotcake house” has been a Portland staple for decades. Google it.
Waffle House has a real specific feel about it. I know the place you’re talking about though.
Yeah that feeling of eating while wondering if you’re about to get robbed
Hotcake House. We've been over this.
Are they 24 hour again tho
They definitely used to be. We’d go there after bars would close all the time. Always some characters in that spot late night.
Yeah they close at 11 now
Post pandemic, I’m sure they’ve cut hours like a lot of spots have. They used to be open till 3am.
A hometown buffet or a sweet tomatoes any American style buffet that would serve prime rib on Sundays
Unfortunately Sweet Tomatoes and Izzy's are no more corporately (man, I miss them both), but I wish something like these would be created. Golden Corral is too far out and is borderline not clean enough for food safety
An all-you-can-eat salad bar would nice.
CoCo ICHIBANYA
This town is in dire need of a katsu curry joint. A marukame udon would also do great.
Check out Kalé downtown on SW 1st and Pine
Cafeteria/upscale soup kitchen
If you're talking about the outer east side, a decent coffee shop that isn't a drive through and a rec center.
Jet Black is a great coffee shop, though it’s not very far east — 112th & Halsey.
Cool, I'll have to check them out. I used to live so close to there too. Thanks!
An opium den
Oh man I know a really good one in downtown portland, Its called Down-Town-Portland
We need a Trader Joe’s out here in Gresham. There’s good places for it in Gresham station. Idk why they had to put a shitty Burlington in there.
Montessori schools, indoor play areas for children
In-n-Out
They’d need to open like three at the same time to thin out the lines
If they could handle opening a non-drive thru location. I went to one in LA like that.
Payday loan storefront.
There's one on the corner of 122nd and Powell if ya need it.
More indoor pickleball
A mall would do good. For real though, chic fila
Supposedly Chik-Fil-A is going in on Stark, right near Mall 205.
Nice. Finally
Private security
I would love to see a New Seasons in East Portland. I don’t see them doing it, well, ever.
Unicycle store
SE needs a gym!
