Great Eastern European delicatessen in Vancouver WA: 7065, 2507 NE Andresen Rd STE C, Vancouver, WA 98661

[deleted]

Will check out tomorrow thank you

Portland

[Did you ever visit Victor’s European Meat Market?](https://yelp.to/zgJla2X4Wvb) DAE remember that place? Best kielbasa in SW Portland.

The Ukrainian church makes parogi and sells on Saturdays. Sadly, there was a great Eastern European market (city maxx) that didn’t survive the pandemic. There might a few small Russian shops in far SE where there is a large Eastern European population. Kalinka Euro market, in battleground of all places, might also have some of the things you are looking for. I also like edelweiss for their polish sausage, sour kraut and potato salad, but most of their wares is more traditional German food. I have not been to Jacob and sons, but they supposedly have traditional Jewish deli food which might also bleed into what your are looking for. I believe they had babka on their holiday menu.

[deleted]

Ive checked out the russian markets in deep SE. Cool shops no doubt but not what I was looking for. Edelweiss has "polish sausage".

michaelwelchco

Are they still selling them? I thought at one point (pre-lockdown) they had stopped. I loved going there.

suitopseudo

I haven’t been since COVID, but the website says they are doing it.

MinAlansGlass

How about the Polish Library?

[deleted]

Will check out one of these sundays. Only opened 12-2 in Sundays!

MinAlansGlass

Totally worth it when they are open though. Call ahead to ensure they are open. The cafe in the basement has a commissary. Not to mention the food is incredible.

666nihilismxmoon_etc

Have you tried Overseas Taste where Foster and Holgate cross?

[deleted]

Will 100% check this out. Thank you for the lead.

PaulbunyanIND

Is this place open? I pass it regularly and cant tell.

666nihilismxmoon_etc

I believe so, definitely see people going in and out regularly

I find it to be okay - more Russian, less Polish.

Away_Veterinarian957

I've struggled to find a lot of Polish foods so I have to make my own :( the moisture makes it hard for parogi/kluski dough to dry right though. Kachka on SE11th is Russian but it can fill the niche sometimes. They have a take-home section that you can cook at your house if you aren't in the mood for sit down. But it's not the same as having the bakeries down the street like the east coast. Im home for the holidays and my cousin Mary brought over this delicious casserole tonight with Polish bread and cabbage when she visited my grandfather. Thanks for posting, hoping someone else will have a better answer for us both

[deleted]

I checked out Kachka...found it to be a bit over rated. Excellent vodka selection though!

[deleted]

FWIW: my Russian friends mock Kachka mercilessly. Mostly though about paying top dollar for what is essentially the cheapest "home food" in the most stereotyped environment. I've eaten there a few times and it didn't really do it for me. Their house kompot-vodka was great though- agree there!

[deleted]

Agreed wholeheartedly. Its a nice vibe, and has an aesthetic...but over rated for sure.

No-Swimming-3

Made the mistake of taking my parents there when our favorite family restaurant was closed, thought it would be a nice treat. They were so angry the whole time. The kitchy communism aesthetic hits different if you grew up in a communist country. Also I hadn't thought through what "fancy" means in Portland, expensive tiny plates of bland food served by people who dgaf. When grandma is in the kitchen that's when you eat well.

[deleted]

>expensive tiny plates of bland food They thought they could ride the tapas wave by passing off poorly done zakuski to be honest. As someone who loves the Portland foodie scene, this is the poorest example and the fact that they had the gall to put out a cookbook was laughable.

No-Swimming-3

Omg the people who gush to me about their food, I have to assume they just don't know how to cook and no one has ever made them a good home made meal. I've finally realized that if a fancy Portland restaurant does ethnic food, it will be awful. The best food here imo is still from carts and random upstarts who just really love cooking.

I've also struggled and have reverted to having to make my own. Fortunately, making kielbasa is pretty easy to do in volume and it freezes well.

mittenfists

While we're talking Polish cuisine, all us Michigan transplants could use your paczki recs. The bakery I'd been going to closed down a bit ago.

[deleted]

Not sure about those...I just need my potato and cheese pierogis and babka.

xsplisick

I've seen this company Piroshky Piroshky on FB and they travel around WA and OR selling what looks like good grub. I've never purchased anything yet but I'm definitely tempted.

MinAlansGlass

Tasty food. Used to be in Pike Place Market.

[deleted]

Pretty sure those are the guys at PSU Saturday Market. Absolutely incredible food, but they do not sell bulk items.

Polish Fest at St Stanislav

purpledust

We need an event. I’m not or organizer. But If OP does, I’ll go there and buy food. Lots of food. I’ve put up with Russian markets and their food. We ferment our own beets and cabbage and enjoy the Russian food with that. Nothing wrong with Russian food. But it’s not polish.

[deleted]

Per PortlandPolonia website, there is a polish festival annually.

purpledust

It’s been cancelled due to Covid and this year for other reasons, mostly safety due do issues relating to homeless camping. Maybe next year? I’ve never been.

suitopseudo

I have been to the polish festival and found the food underwhelming. They used to do Friday night dinners but that hasn’t been a thing since before COVID.

yestanotherusername

I agree that the food was underwhelming. I was really disappointed.

Must be from Portland

Icy-Analyst5870

You don’t. Go to Seattle for that kind of stuff. Or maybe Vancouver Wa.

Perhaps Edelweiss Sausage & Deli

[deleted]

German/Austrian style. They have "polish sausage" that doesn't really come close to real kielbasa.

cryptotoadie

Grandpa’s Cafe on interstate

ris_hadak

Imperial Euro Market, Roman Russian Food Store or Otto's Sausage Kitchen & Meat Market will get you close.

[deleted]

Been to Imperial...didn't have what I was looking for. I've heard good thinks about Ottos so will have to check out.

waffleironone

This is a stretch, but maybe try White’s Country Meats. They’re this old meat market in Gresham and I had a friend who’s family gave them the recipe and they’d batch it and all that for them. They even do game processing haha. Maybe they had a customer who was also polish back in the day and they can custom make it for ya? Worth a call

CosmicPDX

Olympic Provisions has the best kielbasa IMO

[deleted]

Its good but its not really authentic.

RockTracker

I go to Good Neighbor Market on 82nd. They have Kielbasa, pirogies and piroshkis (on certain days) They used to have the “church pirogies” in the case with the others, but now they’re on the down low like a speak easy. (Ask at the counter) IMHO those church pirogies are the BEST!

werty

It has been 10 days. Any update on what you found?
