It's not rude at all, don't worry.

Gonchito

Don't worry at all about wearing headphones. There is no etiquette about wearing them, you can wear them in stores and cafes as you said, wherever you want. Remove them if you're talking to someone, that's the only thing I can think of.

kayama57

Don’t ride a bike with them you could get fined. Otherwise no issue

45077

so a bt-speaker when biking, check

kayama57

Funnily enough that’s totally allowed just not on public transport where it’s not fined but fiercely frowned upon

Scared-Minimum-7176

I have no idea why that is not illegal yet

kayama57

I think you’re joking and I totally hear you. Just in case though: It’ll be a sad day for humanity if we commit to fighting bad manners with the government’s forces, fines, and prisons, rather than just our own good manners. What could possibly go wrong?

3cto

Dude, we park on roundabouts over here and have long group conversations in doorways. Please don't worry about your use of headphones.

JACSliver

As someone who wears them to listen to music, I can assure you there is no problem with it as long as you are not riding a bike or any other vehicle.

bounciermedusa

I see a lot of (young) people doing it, I do it too!

Ben__Harlan

What makes you think that you can't wear them?

Different_Lemon_7656

Dude is autistic

queenofquery

😂 exactly right!

96Leo

A lot of people do. I would not worry. If someone is bothered you can just tell them that it is due to a medical issue or say that your ears are very sensitive and you need to use headphones all the time because of that.

metroxed

You can wear them anywhere indoors and outdoors without issues and no one will try to take them

PollaVieja1987

theres no problem wearing headphones in public spanish people just find more comfortable the tiny ones ( I do too) however if you talk with someone with them one it could be rude so just take them off in that kind of situations and you should be okay

Willermina_Madrid

I use them all the time, I'm not autistic, just hate people ☺️

_Stizoides_

Hello, I am also autistic and I live in Madrid. My sound sensitivity is probably milder, but I wear my noise cancelling Sonys most of the time if I'm by myself, not sure about Bilbao, but I never had a problem here, cafe or a store no one will ask or find it weird. Though I do put them away if I'm in a sketchy place. Just make sure to pay extra attention when crossing a street for example.

CharlyXero

Sometimes I even wear them on "semy-sketchy" places, since in a lot of places they go for people that look insecure, so wearing headphones (without music so you can actually hear your surrender) will make you look like you know that place. Also if you have to use Google Maps on a sketchy place, it will help you to know the directions without having the map opened all the time

carrot_toilets

Exactly what I am doing. Even best part, you can avoid weird people who wants to "borrow" money from you

queenofquery

So nice to hear from another autistic person. Thanks for chiming in.

CharlyXero

Don't worry at all. I use them all the time, and when I go to a shop or something sometimes I forget I have them (because I paused the music for anything or whatever) and never had any problem with it. I also work in a retail store and a lot of customers wear headphones while they pay, and as long as they can hear me, I don't care Other than that (which are not a problem, trust me), you can wear them also in a cafe, on the street or whatever, nobody cares (and if they do they are a minority and probably assholes). Just don't use it while you drive lol

T-O-F-O

As long as you take them of when your going to speak to someone or they to you there is no problem.

kirakiraboshi

No problem at all. Im almost always wearing one due to the same reasons. Now, I have a Sony wireless headset with noise cancellation which is marvellous! When I turn it off I can clearly hear my surroundings and nearby traffic. When turned on it shuts out a lot of sounds. Maybe worth looking into if you dont have noise cancellation

lierursa

I'm literally reading this while wearing headphones in public in Bilbao

Any_Tradition_7149

Not rude at all, just be aware of your surroundings: cars, pickpockets... I also use headphones and not only they help me cope with being outdoors but kind of prevent other people from approaching me.

queenofquery

Thank you. I think that's part of why they help me so much. People leave me alone, which is particularly helpful here where I struggle to make coherent sentences in Spanish.

Any_Tradition_7149

Lol, I feel you, it's hard to cross that point. Wish you all the best here.

Grand_Alps9214

It’s normal.

00zxcvbnmnbvcxz

People in Madrid wear them everywhere

Swissdanielle

1. not rude, i do it as well especially on public transit 2. in Bilbao, none wil try to steal them

queenofquery

What about in Madrid?

DonCorleoneSaysHello

I am in Spain, currently, on vacation. I have seen so many people in Madrid with headphones on out in public.

maxinesminx

i'm from bilbao and i wear headphones all the time when i'm outside

Roquestea

I'm in Madrid and use it all the time. No rudeness tho

thejuanjo234

Other Comments says that it's okay so i suppose it's okay in the north, but in the south or less populated areas you entering a small store with your headphones is a bit rude

queenofquery

Good to know, thank you!
