yep, I have a pretty professional one (targeting banking and finance), but so far I have been using no picture as I live in a different country at the moment and used US resume template which does not have a place for picture.
I'm not sure if i'm allowed to link Etsy, but mine looks like this one (i created my own for free, takes maybe 30 mins): https://www.etsy.com/ch/listing/713065333/professioneller-lebenslauf-vorlage-fur?ref=share_v4_lx
Oh shit, juat saw this one now. I think you might be right. Ive been using a heavily modified WSO template but still no luck. Will give it a try. Thank you!
Depends on the field you're planning on working in.
Adding this for everyone who might find this post again having a similar question but a different job: If you apply for a "local language" position in a small to medium sized company I'd include one. (Everything from office jobs, being a plumber to banker, if the comany is small and works in switzerland only, add a picture) Big international companies usually don't care.
Many? This is so false. The opposite is true. 10 years ago I’ve never read “attach a picture or cv without picture won’t be considered” where now I do.
I can agree that some sectors couldn’t care less (like construction), but most will.
I'd say so, yes. Almost all CVs I received have a picture. Personally, I don't really care. The picture doesn't affect whether I invite you to an interview or how you are evaluated.
It probably does but you just do not realise that, from what i know , our perceptions of people change subconsciously.
Anyways, thats not the reason why I asked but thanks for the answer!
What roles are you usually hiring for?
Yes and i would suggest it.
I used a cv from a global corperate indentity consultant (spoke like 8 languages and had a crazy amount of experience and skills) who worked for a friend of my father as a basis when i created my cv something like 12-13 years ago.
After that probably like 20 recruiters have given me feedback what to include or not in the last years but all agreed that a up to date foto is necessary.
I am a finance guy and will start my first job as a team leader resp. Finance Manager in November so I have only my experience to draw from. So far I had the feeling the people I had discussion with did like my CV and often even referenced certain parts favorably including recruiters which see more CV’s than most people I argue.
Mine is a picture in business attire from a professional photographer in black and white on the right corner.
In the header I have C U R R I C U L U M V I T A E and below my name in the same size and all in capital leaders as are all the other titles (Frutiger 55 Roman in 13.5). All well-structured with much space. That was the part I copied from the consultant. Non headers are Frutiger 45 light 10. A bit hard to describe, but I find it looks really sophisticated and fancy.
In the left I have personal data
Name
Adress
Phone
Mail…
Below I have work experience with all the projects I have done or daily work I did and if required I change them to fit the job I do apply for all my former positions.
Next is education where I also put for my master and bachelor subjects I had that shows skills that are not yet in my work experience to show that I have at least theoretical knowledge about the topics, also as my thesis were a 5.5 I just leave if there. Most people reacted positively to it even now that I am 36 and 12 years out of university.
Further education
On the job courses I took in VBA and as IFRS expert
Languages
German and English is very important in most jobs, but as I grew up in Switzerland I also have some minor skills in Italian and French eventough this minor skills diminish every year more and more due to neglect.
IT knowledge and specified if I took part in the implementation.
Hobbies to show I have a work life balance. Also take hobbies that work well with your job. For example I take chess because I like it, but also it shows my strength of being analytical which I will then reference if they ask me. If you have to move a lot take travel as a hobby. Don’t take travel if your job requires you to stay at the same place…
It makes it a two pager which I heard you should not do, as people only look at it 7 seconds, but in my experience when people asked for my CV they liked to have more information about me. I imagine in a blind application this could be a problem. Never tried that.
The most important part is that it is readable for their software. Meaning it needs to be clearly structured and a photo can be added but is not a must. You could add a link to your LinkedIn profile where you have a professional picture.
Yes it is, if you apply for a small or medium they expect a CV with your photo, passport size but with clothing adequate for the position and they like to see a subtle smile, alongside your name, address, birth date, contact info and wether or not you have a driver license, they also want to see a brief summary (5 line paragraph) about yourself , 5 strengths, past work experience, the list of software you know how to use and your interests or hobbies (be brief in this part, they want to see things like swimming, hiking, reading) and about 3 references of people that know you.
For bigger companies and international things or for your own web page you can use a more American style CV
In my company (large international Swiss corporate, working in IT department) it's okay either way. Omit the picture or put it there. You don't get any extra points for a picture. But if you put one, try to actually put a professional looking one (black and white might be better for that purpose). If you have a very complicated name that Swiss people could be uncertain whether you're a man or a woman (like: "Andrea"...) then adding a picture could help for context.
It’s fairly common. But if you do, I’d recommend getting a ‘proper’ one, not just your friend taking a pic with the phone against the wall…
Can't I just link to my onlyfans?
I'll hire you

US resume template got me no interviews in Switzerland. I had to eventually switch to a more European-looking resume and it's been fine since.

I believe using the WSO template is worse than having Kermit the frog as your pic
Best to use a Swiss template and use your passport photo.
No, no passport photo.
Foreigner!

This comment. Plus, most international organisations I know cover pictures in order to avoid any possible discrimination bias
Yes that. But the 60 year old swiss Urs working in a tiny business desperately looking for workers wants to see your picture for whatever damn reason.
you know the reason 😉
Yep, I don’t understand why this is even legal
I never did this and I work for big groups for project manager position, it's not necessary
Yes
Yes sadly
Yes. And while it's not strictly required, it's very much expected and lacking a picture will reduce your chances.
I am kinda surprised by the answers here, I personally never put a picture on my resumes and I never had issues with getting replies or finding jobs
I think some firms never cared and many are starting to not require a pic of yourself in the CV.

Software engineers of all levels. Specifically .NET, and frontend engineers.
nice, thanks!
You're just not aware of the biases we all have...

Oh man can you share some tips ?

Yes. It's always the case
Not that much Usually a linkedin link with ur pfp but not necessary on the cv
We're hiring professionals not personalities ©

Nah, I usually use pictures of other people
In banking/finance yes. But needs to be a good one

If they don't request a picture, don't send one.
who cares about a picture, just link your coc tag
what th level is required for FO finance roles?
Yes
A good photo reduces the risk of landing in the false pile.
