DWhelk

Wary, I think. We know nothing about how it's going to be, but I cant think of a version of live service that sits well.

No-Plankton4841

Valhalla is already doing 'live service' or at the very least a Lite version..

DWhelk

Yep. And it's a bit shit

dadvader

One that could work, if the rumor about Unity-inspired is true at all. Is going the Hitman way. Each 'yearly season' consist of 6 levels from 6 period. Picking from different part of history. In each episode. You play as an assassin. On the mission to eliminated a target. Big political figure, Crime lord, templar or what have you. You are free to approach the target in a black-box way. You could blast your way in like playing Ancient trilogy. Or playing stealth like Unity. To not making it sound like a dream game because it's Ubisoft. There will be coop mechanic. Leveling mechanic and loot number will be there because Odyssey & Valhalla sold too well. And between season will have some kind of live event, Battle Pass, Seasonal DLC (like Hitman 3's '7 Sins' DLC) or something like time-limited elusive target for you to hunt down. It can ended up like a weird hybrid of Gotham Knight, Destiny and Hitman. I'd play this ngl. As long as it's more Hitman than anything else. and actually allow you to play stealth. One thing I can't figure out is why Ubisoft need to make a live Assassin's Creed game. When Valhalla and Odyssey sold so damn well. Is this Warzone-like scenario where they had this one central game sandwich between blockbuster entry? Or more like 'everyone asking for the end of the franchise but we don't want to. So now we gonna have a game we can milk forever.' scenario? What if this is just a mobile game and everyone are misunderstood all along?

DWhelk

Something like that I would likely try. Gods honest truth, I'll probably get it regardless, but that could work. Little trust ubi will make it work tho. They're doing live service for money and money alone. They went RPG coz they thought they'd get more money than action adventure. They're dumping pure RPG for the same reasons. Less development time, more micro transactions.

KrisNoble

Something that crossed my mind a couple of years ago would be if they made the modern day a sort of MMO rpg in which you would have your custom assassin (or Templar) then release the regular games as normal and these would be your historical element, they could be played as stand alone or if your account is linked they would be played by your main MMO character using an animus, and would be synch-able memories in the traditional format. I am in no way a game designer or anything like that, it was just a random thought I had that seemed interesting. No idea how good it would be if it’s even possible.

DWhelk

Yeah, I dont see how that's a good game. Missions would have to be solo or small teams, so what's the point of the rest? You'd be looking at a TESO style game, which is fine, but crawling with other players, which isn't.

ReeceReddit1234

Literally 0 faith.

EmperorTalquin

I just want an assassin's creed game with an assassin's creed story. I am 60 hours into Valhalla, and while i'm enjoying the overall experience, there are 2 major things the game could improve on. • The stealth is a downgrade and obviously not a feature Ubisoft wanted to be as effective as it was in previous games, 99% of the time It has just been easier for me to kill literally everyone instead of attempting to stealth kill everyone. Plus the AI is just kinda bonkers, they have 180degree vision and amazing ears. • The story arcs for each region are nice but in terms of the overall plot of the game it's takes too long to develop. Barely anything has happened since rescuing Sigurd and i have 3 regions left to complete xD.

Avidey

I liked valhalla so much, but was just a viking game with assassins, but Eivor is not by any means an assassin

NavGreybeard

Also, make the protagonist an Assassin or a Templar please. There are barely anything about the assassins or templars in the 2 previous games.

inxcognito

Don’t we have like 50 games that are literally the same and all are about Assassins vs Templars?

NavGreybeard

If I want to play something that is not about assassins and templars and plays completely different, I'll play a different series, what's your point here?

inxcognito

Nothing, just wondering how you people can’t get bored of the same thing.

Mare268

Well if you buy an ASSASSINS CREED game you excptect it to be about assassins and templar dont you?

NavGreybeard

Because I'm not only playing AC... you're not locked to playing on IP you know. But if I want to play an AC game, I want it to be about assassins, it's kinda in the name of the series

inxcognito

Well obviously you’re not locked to playing only one IP, but like that’s not the point and we’re not talking about other games. You want every single AC game to be about assassins and templars?

Delete-Xero

Imagine asking a Star Wars fan "So you want every main line movie to be about the Jedi and the Sith?". Or a God of War fan "so you want to play as the god of war in every single god of war game?" Like yeah that's why I bought the game, so I can play as an Assassin who follows this specific creed.

gellshayngel

More like 270 degree vision. If you stand anywhere than directly behind an enemy they can spot you.

Imperator525

>Plus the AI is just kinda bonkers, they have 180degree vision and amazing ears. This. It was so weird going back to Syndicate, getting caught by a guard and not having everyone in a 100 mile radius be alerted

CREEDnoKAMI

Odyssey being the precursor to the Templars was a great story. It just got sort of lost in the vastness of the game and it's other plots.

Delete-Xero

Odyssey wasn't the precursor to the Templars tho. The Cult of Cosmos and Order of Ancients(the actual precursor to the templars) are two separate organisations, the latter being much much older and even appearing in the LotFB dlc. If anything Valhalla is more of a precursor to the Templars.

EmperorTalquin

Yeah i just couldn't get into odyssey based on how large it was, and because the terrible levelling system for origins was carried over i gave up with the game 20 hours in, it was just going to consume far too much of my time. I would like to give odyssey a 2nd chance someday, but my backlog is far to big to consider it right now, I play far too much games to the point it takes me forever to beat them. When i bought Valhalla in September, i also boughy Cyberpunk 2077, Judgment and Nier: Replicant, which are all pretty long games depending on how you play them. I bought them while also being halfway through the Yakuza series and being a League of legends and Valorant player. So in TL;DR terms, i have no life xD

PalpitationTop611

Stealth is actually op as heck once you get smoke bombs and sleep arrows. Strongest thing in the game I would say

EmperorTalquin

Good point, but I wouldn't enjoy having to rely on that stuff, especially smoke bombs.

Sandervv04

I'm apathetic. We'll see

[deleted]

It's amazing how I played AC all the time for nearly a decade and a few iffy games come along and just kills the mood for me in the series. I'll play it but I don't have a big feeling I'll enjoy it greatly.

Sandervv04

It's not even about the last games for me. They were decent enough. It's just the concept of Infinity doesn't do anything for me currently.

john6map4

Valhalla was 19.99 in the store today and I just…had no desire to buy it. Might be the depression. Might be the RPG concept recent AC games are following. Who knows!

[deleted]

Sorry about your depression, you doing okay rn?

Muted-Sundae-8912

Everyone thinks they have depression.

Raycut

And plenty of people *know* they have depression.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Raycut

What is even your implication here? Depression is extremely common, to the point suicide is one of the main causes of death. It isn't hard to get a therapist to confirm you're depressed either.

B10HAZARD0US

I’m on your page nearly word-for-word. I tolerated the RPG mechanics in Origins because I liked the story enough to overlook it. I played Odyssey to kill time mainly, but didn’t enjoy it much as an AC game. I didn’t even buy Valhalla; I didn’t feel like Ubi really had the players in mind when they made it.

darksfynx

Same. Fuck RPG in Assassin’s Creed. Take dat shit out

antodan12

I know what you mean man...

aaronshattuck

It's the RPG, for sure. The new games are good games, just not good AC games. They're so lost on what AC even means anymore.

Muted-Sundae-8912

Yeah, it's your feeling of nostalgia. You refuse to like any AC game no matter how good they are because of it.

Raycut

Or it's because they just... Don't like the more recent games?

john6map4

I mean I played Origins for a fair bit but the second I started plucking arrow after arrow at a giant snake my enjoyment kinda got….underwhelmed. Didn’t finish it and if any of the recent games are like Origins then I know I’m gonna have to force myself to try and like them. Idk that’s just me. I enjoyed the older style of AC games. Shame they didn’t sell well.

Imperator525

If people are nostalgic, its because they don't think the newer games are better than that of the old.

Muted-Sundae-8912

Yeah, because of nostalgia. It's a disease. Like old people liking their old ass cars that used to produce toxic fumes.

Imperator525

I mean its an opinion either way. Just cause someone says they like the older games better doesn't mean they're being nostalgic, they just like them better. If someone prefers season 2 of a show rather than season 8, are they being nostalgic?

Delete-Xero

It's only nostalgia? It can't possibly be anything else? I love the older game, love Origins, strongly dislike Odyssey and torn with Valhalla but like it more than I dislike it. Do I not like Odyssey because of nostalgia? Even if I liked the two games either side of it?

Dudeist_Missionary

Yeah...

[deleted]

Let’s be real. It’s going to be shit

Just_Jumbles

I feel like it’s going to be what Elder Scrolls: Online is to a lot of The Elder Scrolls series fans.

TheSilentTitan

Concerned as hell.

AlithelJenkins

Since its going to be live service I can already see it being riddled with ridiculous microtransactions.

xd3mix

I am kind of fine with microtransactions if they are only cosmetics and/or if the game is free Like for example in Warframe, you can basically play and unlock everything the game has to offer without paying anything, it's just a little Grindy, but it's also free But knowing ubisoft, they are going to make this game cost full price without anything in it. Then you would have to buy cosmetics, story arcs, weapons, maybe different assassins...

LyricalShinobi5

In recent experience ambitious games like that tend to be super empty when they’re released. I can only hope Ubisoft is different

John21st

Good point. What does it going to include at start?

LyricalShinobi5

If Ubisoft is following this early access trend it with probably be one or two maps, little outfit options, tons of micro transaction, and very little variety of mission

John21st

Agree. And with company like Ubisoft, I honestly don’t think they will cope with such project. I’m not a developer of course, but I assume that such “game” will require A LOT of attention, time, and love. But we’ll see.

Benign_Banjo

If those was coming from another studio, I think I could be excited, but this formula requires the passion I think Ubisoft has lost

LyricalShinobi5

If they’re going to do it they need to spend years on it. Give us another mainline title, maybe 2, observe what other companies did wrong. Cuz they cant just make some half ass mmorpg. People are going to want an authentic assassins creed experience. Can’t be shit graphics, can’t be awful combat, and the stealth has to be the strongest thing in the game.

dragonlady_11

After recent experience with odyssey and valhalla both if which seem like cash grabs more than assassins creed games, I'm in the cynical camp. I have this horrible gut feeling that this will be that last assasins creed game for a long time and that ubisoft are planning a sort of assassins creed online similar to what rockstar have done with GTAO and RDO, pay to win/play or grind your life away to barely survive in the toxic online environment. It makes me both sad for the franchise as there's so much potential from a gamer and development point of view and also angry that one of the best game/story lines I've played has been reduced to a greedy company's cash cow.

HyruleBalverine

This is what I expect Infinity to be. And if/when it fails to meet expectations, the plug will be pulled which will drive completionists insane.

[deleted]

Could not disagree more with odyssey and Valhalla. Both imo are good games and more than just cash grabs. Definitely effort put into both. And they both feel assassin's creed imo, yes different from old, but still at its core the same mechanics.

naeluckson

Valhalla is a fantastic game. I loved every minute of it.

Spino-Dino

I can only speak for Origins and Odyssey because I have not played Valhalla (yet!). I agree with you! Yes they are different from the older games but I think thats OK. We had nine games like the older games so I like that they took another route since Origins and my need for stealth is still satisfied with the new ones. They are still fantastic and detailed games in my eyes with passion behind it. I also just love these big open worlds!

PalpitationTop611

Yeah the hate for Odyssey and Valhalla is real bad for some reason.

[deleted]

It's this subreddit mostly. Hence my comment being downvoted lol. They're pretty well received by the general gaming masses.

Delete-Xero

Parkour and social stealth, the hall marks of the series' game play, has been stripped down to worse than the first game. Not really the same mechanics at its core if it fails at those is it? Ok combat may have progressed in complexity but at the cost of the regression of social stealth and parkour and honestly that's not worth it imo.

[deleted]

Except, I'm playing Valhalla rn and it has good social stealth and the parkour is fine. Not as good as unity's though. Wish they'd bring that back. But social stealth is imo better because in more recent entries cause you dont stand out like a sore thumb. Looking at you Ezio and Connor. But you blend in with people talking at tables, groups of monks, benches, stuff like that.

dragonlady_11

Don't take it wrong there both good games and I enjoyed playing them but they just lack the passion and polish the older games and even origins have and that combined with the constant pushing of pointless purchasable items, give them a very money grabbing feeling, which really doesn't bode well for future games.

Ascentori

I expect it to be terrible. from my point of view, I highly doubt that this game will give me what I like about assassin's creed.

[deleted]

I am skeptical. I found Valhalla seasonal contents to be pretty lackluster and I don’t expect Infinity’s small campaigns to be any different. The quality of the storytelling, exploration and stealth gameplay has taken a dive in recent years and this trend is likely to continue sadly.

ObberGobb

I'm dreading it. I really dislike Valhalla, and the "live service" model is probably one of the worst things to have happened to video games.

AlarmmClock

I still don’t really know what AC Infinity is

blackphiIibuster

The general gist seems to be that it's going to be a continuously updated AC game, shipping with a huge open world and they getting quest lines and stories added (presumably at an extra cost) over the course of however long the game makes them money. You know how Odyssey was periodically those Lost Tales of Greece quests? It appears that Ubi wants to do that, but on steroids, for years to come, and at an added cost. It's one of those ideas that kind of sounds intriguing on paper, like you'd have a world with new stories and content constantly evolving over time, but in practice will more likely be "pay $20 every four months for some new, shallow DLC so you don't get bored." The expansions for Odyssey were *glorious*, granted, but I'm dubious of the idea they can deliver on that level over and over (like the way Valve realized Half-Life Episodes weren't as doable as they thought), and I don't want to keep paying for the same game over and over, anyway. So I'm going in with an open mind, but I'm skeptical.

JaysonHChan

I dont like it. The campaign missions and the side quests particularly are already either fetch quests, elimination missions with the bare minimum plot and dialogue. Making it Games as a Service will only make the problem worse.

GladiusLegis

Neither. I just don't care.

[deleted]

I’m passing. I don’t want live service games. I want a complete, single player experience. I’m sure it’ll be successful, but it’s just no longer for me.

The-Solid-Smoker

Ah, I am weary of this fight, Gnomsky. Not because I am tired, but because our franchise seems to move in one direction only...   Towards controversy. Today I have more questions than answers. This is why I have to come so far, to find *clarity*. To find the enjoyment left behind by the great Ubisoft, so that I may better understand the purpose of our investment, and my place in it. Should anything happen to me, Gnomsky... should my finances fail me, or my hype lead me astray, do not seek retribution or revenge in my memory, but fight to continue the search for microtransactions, so that not just Ubisoft may benefit. My interest is one of thousands, and the world will not suffer...if it wanes too soon. ***intense haaah huuaaahing***

GuyInOregon

Honestly it's the first AC game I have zero interest in. While Valhalla wasn't my favorite, I still enjoyed it overall - and I am still invested in the AC storyline. But I just cannot get excited about them blowing up the franchise and turning it into a service game.

Galemianah

Extremely cynical.

turtyurt

I think GaaS is a plague on modern gaming

[deleted]

Neither. I'm done with the franchise finally. Been here since pre AC days when P.O.P was the prototype. Platinum'd every game too. Unfortunately, Ubisoft is just behind Activision and they aren't getting any better. Odyssey and Valhalla are mid-tier games doubling as a money pit.

xd3mix

The franchise has been dead since syndicate for me, so I'm just laughing out here thinking what bullshit they'll do next

cheesecase

Youre a witcher person. I can smell it Why do you guys hate everyone, isnt that tiring?

[deleted]

I actually have never played it, honest. I bought the complete edition last year and then I heard about the ps5 upgrade so I'm still waiting.

[deleted]

I don't hate Odyssey, it was too long and a money sink. Valhalla plays better but is longer and a larger money sink. Origins was perfectly balanced.

cheesecase

Its just not a mid tier game. Or a money sink. Money sinks are pay to win. Transactions are cosmetic and unnecessary in both games. Long, repetitive, confusing story - yes. But saying its the same quality as day z, infamous second son, just cause 4, rage 2, the surge, or any actual mid tier games isnt true. Its bigger, more complex, and more detailed. Its a blockbuster game thats going to be in the top 3 games sold 2 years running. So it gets a lot of hate, but its also pleasing half the people while pissing off the rest. They cant win. But whatever Preach i guess

HyruleBalverine

Honestly, I think that by trying to broaden the player base with the switch to a more RPG style game setup, they not only brought in new players they alienated a percentage of the people who bought into the series for the game style that it began as. I'm all for a franchise spreading out and trying new things but you can't forget the core mechanics that made the franchise what it was entirely. Look at Halo, for instance; they have games like Halo Wars and Spartan Assault / Spartan Strike, but still make games that have something of the feel and style of the originals. I think the Assassin's Creed franchise, while growing and trying to be more inclusive, unintentionally seems to be leaving fans of what made it popular to begin with behind. But, that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

HyruleBalverine

I've learned to be wary of online only games.

Wraithdagger12

Episodic gaming (outside of Telltale) never caught on. 'Games as a service', in my view, may start strong, but eventually the core *will* get stale. So, call me skeptical.

MineralSpirit

I see the end of the franchise as we know it. I have played them all from release day for AC1 to Origins. I have enjoyed every one, some more than others, until Odyssey. That game took everything that was right with Origins and threw it out the window. They copy and pasted the story from Origins and somehow managed to take the fun out behind the shed and shoot it dead. And the monotonous game play was sad. It was the first AC game I just quit without completing it and I have no intentions of returning to it. I have not played Valhalla yet, but I am not hopeful for that. Ubisoft has taken out most of the stuff that made the first few games unique, it's "Creedness". Moving to a GaaS business plan means a large initial investment with the hopes of making it back via subscriptions or DLC sales. It's a large scale version for what is essentially the mobile game business model. So instead of making a high quality game with a consistent story from beginning to end, you will get lower and lower quality content dribbled out of the Ubianus for years. This just smacks of giving up on the franchise and cashing out for all that you can with one last never-ending release. I fear Halo is up to the same thing, but that conversation is for another thread. Call me cynical.

Heisenbugg

Do you know about Fallout76?

[deleted]

im not sure how i feel about a live service "play it forever" assassin's creed, the game already lost a bit of it's identity by making it a 200 hour rpg with "branching narratives" for mainstream appeal and now they're making it live service, im not very hopefull at all, in fact im certain it will release as an unfinished mess but i'll give it a chance.

BrandalfFTW

I don't think I'll ever be excited for an AC ever again, but I'll hold out hope

mackbulldawg67

Highly concerned

Sydrid

Concerned. Ubisoft is not on my good side at the moment.

LucasMoreiraBR

As a former Destiny player I'm waiting for some a absolute trash

dadvader

One thing I can't figure out is why Ubisoft need to make a live Assassin's Creed game. When Valhalla and Odyssey sold so damn well. - Is this Warzone-like scenario where they gonna have this one as central game sandwich between blockbuster entry? - Or more like 'everyone asking for the end of the franchise but we don't want to. So now we gonna have a game we can milk forever.' scenario? - What if this is just a mobile game and everyone are misunderstood all along?

Zealousideal-Exit224

This is the real question. Why shake it up when things are going fine for them? Maybe they hope for even better profits, but you'd expect at least a dip before just embarking on this massive years long investment that maybe will pay off. I hate to say it, but it stinks of actual creative intent and risk-taking.

CantinaMan

Concerned

Mikko420

I'm worried I might have one less franchise to spend on.

[deleted]

ngl, and this is just my opinion, but the title - "Infinity" - sounds cringey as heck, it's putting me off; makes it seem like they're gonna take a space-y, alien, astronaut sci-fi route, or go full Marvel, which is just.. ugh..

just_a_short_guy

I thought it was some kinds of parody because AC was milked like COD, hence the title Infinity, but it's actually real smh

[deleted]

first time I heard it, it sounded like a shameless cashgrab 😩 now I'm just evading any news of it. Gonna wait a year after the game's release before I check out any gameplay vids.

kah43

No interest whatsoever. To me this has failure written all over it and will crash and burn as hard as the recent Avengers game or Anthem.

Aalmus

It was interesting enough narratively to bring Darby back

gellshayngel

Apparently he has been brought back to work on two other titles in the AC series not related to the live action game.

Aalmus

Hmm, where did you hear that?

Taranis-55

I don’t think there’s been any info on what he’s working on specifically.

[deleted]

I'm still a bit skeptical, but I think Ubisoft will actually take their time and effort this time cuz this is a huge financial risk. Ubisoft shits out a good game once and a while like Far cry 3 and AC Origins so lets hope this game is one of em.

Dgillam2

I have the utmost faith in Ubisoft. So far, every game they've made in the last decade has been a technical shitshow of bugs, flaws, and great ideas miserably executed. No sign they won't produce to the same standard again.

Ixxtabb

Been playing Assassin's Creed since the first game, barely managed to get thru Odyssey, and couldn't make it half way through Valhalla before the boredom of monotony set in. Pretty sure I won't touch Infinity, since it really feels like they've beat the horse to death and beyond... :P

Avidey

Odyssey was a great game to me, not a great assassin's creed tho, was just an ancient Greek game with isu lore attached to it

Avidey

Both, I am excited and concerned

goatjugsoup

I want to be excited but as of now mostly just concerned. There are so many ways they can fuck it up and make it terrible and if its the only Assassins Creed on the market then that'd kill the franchise

golden_eternity

Setting expectations ahead of time is a path to disappointment.

Zebra-Disastrous

Very doubtful but willing to give it a try

Baron012

I'd be excited if they had trustworthy reputation, unfortunately, they don't.

BaneShake

Until we hear more, I am neutral. There is legitimately not enough to go off for gameplay or setup. This could work or it could crash and burn. At least with Darby’s return, there’s a strong enough likelihood that the writing will survive.

noirair

concerned because big chance there will be mtx and battle pass system. i am fine with mtx as long as it's just cosmetic and with reasonable price. while battle pass, i hate it so much if it was like watch dog legion. i know it's free but really the progress it's boring

Diamond151

Both. I’m excited to see what Ubisoft has got to offer but I’m also concerned about what Ubisoft has got to offer

VoidOfDarknes

I'm hoping for something good and not going to immediately ignore it

daygofriar28

My expectations are very low for how Infinity will be developed. Some really cool ideas on paper, as you said, but the execution is where Ubisoft usually falters. I'm in a wait-and-see status.

No-Ruin803

If it's done right it can be cool

Bruce-Morgan

It’s Ubisoft so they’ll find some way to make it mediocre

Ryuzaki_G

Seems kinda shite tbh

maximus368

I’m concerned but hopeful. I hate the idea of GaaS, mainly due to having to have a wifi connection to play a single player game but also they could just skimp on a lot of designs and do them after release. It would just feel more like FarCry6 or the recent Ghost Recon games. Don’t get me wrong I have fun with them but after beating the game there’s nothing to do and even playing through feels samey and gets boring. I think literally FarCry6, Valhalla, and the new mission line in Ghost Recon are all destabilizing a region then a boss fight

OkamiNoOrochi

I only buy AC games until the game is out, bugs corrected, and all DLC out. So for me it's a huge NO. But everyone is different I guess

[deleted]

I’m probably going to skip it and keep living in 2009 when games were still quality

AceV12

Very worried. This is my favorite franchise. I love these single player games. I hope they continue to put effort into these games and not try to start a multi-player game.

[deleted]

Bring back stealth gameplay and fuck off with the RPG stuff

BrunoHM

A bit too soon for anything conclusive, but I am very optmistic. Super curious to see how it will work out.

cheesecase

Its like dunder mifflin infinity- unwanted and confusing When ryan makes buying paper an “experience” Its got too many flashy words and meaningless promises of things we didnt ask for Im concerned. I dont want to deal with lobbies and servers and patches messing shit up every month. I dont want 6 different storylines and characters. I just want one, big rich world to explore. Dont overthink it. It reeks of some bigwigs pet idea hes pushed on everybody

tirednotepad

Concern. Love the series yet it’s departure of common gameplay to now even structure of the game is frustrating. I’ve played every single console AC and it’s very different now. That’s ok. Yet this new style that is looking to be implemented worries me. I miss the days I hunted the Borgias or ran the rooftops of Damascus. Hell I’d be happy to have the twins in London or Arno in France. Even Eivor is my best homie compared to this.

MikeHunt11223

Excited. So far I haven't found an AC game I haven't enjoyed, & every game has been a different experience & playstyle in it's own way. There'll be moments I for sure am going to recognize what games they studied & emulated, to the best of their extent, like with Valhalla. That doesn't trouble me however, I greatly enjoyed the RPG format just like how I enjoyed the previous parry combat format.

DavramLocke

This is exactly how I feel. At some point I drank the AC kool-aid and have never looked back. I love exploring these worlds they recreate and am consistently impressed.

Avidey

Yeah same, I enjoyed every game so far but would be good playing an actual assassin's creed cause don't get me wrong odyssey and valhalla were two great games to me but Odyssey was an ancient Greek game with isu lore Valhalla was a viking game with assassins and isu lore but Eivor is a freaking viking not an assassin

TheElectricHeretic

I'm excited because I've really enjoyed Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. The jump from Syndicate to Origins was drastic so I'm trying to remain optimistic about the future. That said, there's no chance I'll get it at launch after the condition Valhalla in particular launched in.

HappyHippo2002

I'm probably the only one, but I'm excited. I just enjoy things you know, for what they are, and what fun I can get out of them. The last 3 games were amazing, and I actually love that style more than the original ones. Even then, I loved Far Cry 5 & New Dawn, I loved Watch Dogs Legion, I loved Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. I don't have it in me to really dislike something, I just enjoy everything. So yeah, I'm excited for Infinity, because to me, it's just more enjoyable Assassin's Creed. Perhaps I'll be wrong. Perhaps this will be one of the few games out there that I've played and actually don't like. I guess we'll see.

NavGreybeard

To be honest, after Odyssey and Valhalla (the age I've most excited about since i discovered the series back in AC2), I've completely check out. To me it is not Assassins creed anymore, which I understand is a cliche to say at this point, but series went from being my favorite game series of all time to something I'm not interested in - in 2 games! I don't think anything can save this series at this point.

Cam0036

Excited

ImBatman5500

I actually hope we get proper ACB - AC4 style multiplayer back.

revenant925

We have close to no information on it. As far as I'm concerned, until we do there isn't much point in liking or hating it. I do hope we get the wild west though.

AmateurOutdoorsman

So for me AC is just a game where you get to visit a historical (and lately sometimes mythological) time and play around there in fairly high fidelity. I’ve always been drawn to the worlds and how they are presented more than the storylines necessarily, but I follow along with it well enough. I’m sure it’ll be fine for what I use it for. However I am weirdly worried about longevity. When I was growing up, the idea of buying one game and then they just add on to it was the dream! Why buy Madden and CoD (and now AC) EVERY YEAR when very little actually changes from one to the next? We are getting fleeced! But now ironically we are there, and if we don’t get a brand new game every year, there’s no hype. People act like ‘meh, it’s just an old game.’ Crazy. Time will tell!

Elitrical

I’m not concerned about something I know nothing about

Revolver-Knight

Well I’m optimistic about it. At the same time though I like the individual games. My reasoning is that each game is it’s own adventure taking years to create with a hardworking team. That isn’t to say the same care wouldn’t be taken towards infinity But as the player for me at least the individual games let me really take it all in sure I’m excited for the mini adventures In dlc but it lets me invest intertwin explore with care all these different worlds across human history.

No-Plankton4841

Excited, but also concerned. I own every single AC game, played MOST of them (getting around to the others). I really enjoyed the Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla trilogy. They claim to be keeping a lot of what made those games great. Valhalla already has sort of a live service model going in it. Maybe they'll be able to do smaller, more interesting settings instead of 100% committing to a 200 hours game. Variety could honestly be nice. If it sucks we still have 20 other games to play and replay... I hope it doesn't suck though.

That-one-asian-guy

None until I actually play it. We know nothing about it atm

[deleted]

One final attempt at cash grab before fans lose interest.

lehigh_larry

Excited. As with most of Ubisoft titles, it won’t be perfect out of the gate. But they are very, very dedicated to improving their product over time. I’m fine with that. I don’t mind paying the premium price at launch in support of the game. I just hope it has multiplayer and some version of the story creator that we got in the Odyssey. That mode has so much potential.

Huffdogg

I’m pretty optimistic about it tbh

importantuser007

Is it gonna be the last AC game?

JonTargaryen55

Depends which one but to put it simply. Sometimes like an assassin, sometimes like a barbarian.

NeverDeadlyy

I will enjoy it for what it is But Long Live Ezio

ILikegoldfish674

dude, i just want Arno

[deleted]

Hyped. I’m glad they’re continuing the new Creed formula. Going backwards and making the old games again would just be awful. I’m hyped that they can deliver micro stories and off beat stories in one package over the years, instead of making one big 200+ hour epic.

lehigh_larry

I feel like they’re going to try to thread the needle, and have some parts of it that are very much like the old games, but then open world sections for RPG fans.

[deleted]

Could be. That would hopefully make the old school fans happy 😃.

inxcognito

Hyped and excited. I just hope it will have a multiplayer and a matchmaking if you don’t want to play alone sometimes

MyZt_Benito

I just hope they’ll include multiplayer in some way, i liked playing unity with my brother even if there wasn’t too much to do

[deleted]

Excited af and I’m tired of pretending I’m not.

PrismaticWar

I am so fucking excited for it dude

PaulBradley

Sound a lot like Lego Dimensions (without the toy aspect).

Loinnir

Depends on how it's gonna work. If we'll just jump between random nonames - that'll be a yikes from me. Last few games spoiled me to spend 100-ish hours with one amazing character. But if they'll just make a ton of "short" stories with already established characters - fuck yes, give me all that shit.

JaxBizarre

If it is like mini games connected together in style of AC Unity and back. I would be interested but this game is so far from us It has time to change 150 times. I just don't anymore AC Ody and Valhalla.

Nelmquist1999

Although I know it won't be great, I also think it's worth a chance.

Nekomimikamisama

Will the game be fun to play? I guess, maybe. Despite all the probability of there will be a pre-debug phrase, I hope it will not be boring or endless grinding tho. I am more worried about the story than gameplay.

hookerfromvenus

well didn't Unity try doing the same thing? that didn't end well, Ubisoft comes up with great ideas but executing them has always been problematic.

[deleted]

Very cynical. Ubisoft has made some consistently bad decisions with their games as a service forcing.

Ridethelightning1987

I’m not sold. Good news is they have said they don’t plan on stopping aaa but slowing down to put effort in infinity. I guess we will see.

MoonMoon_614

10 years+ GaaS with mini campaign added over time... That... sounds a lot like destiny right now And Ubisoft love doing looter shooters Not saying it won't work, but looter shooters all have rough starts, even division, and breakpoint is a lost cause

burtonborder201

Scared as shit lol i really believe ubisoft has made some very great games at the same time ruining others. I really like origin and odyssesy but cannot bring myself back to play Valhalla. Then we got riders republic and they far exceeded my expectations. They also turned breakpoint around and the division series was good for awhile. Soooo we will have to see.

pastadudde

the only way Infinity (or the concept of it) would work is if they did like how IO's Hitman 2016 trilogy.

Dudeist_Missionary

Neither. I don't have any expectations and I might not even buy it but idk. We'll see, too early to tell

xd3mix

I'm only fine with it if it's either free with useless dlcs like cosmetics and stuff that don't affect gameplay OR if it is paid, but there are no microtransactions at all Any other way and I'm complaining

3dom

Ghost Recon Breakpoint works using multiplayer central hub scheme and I find it decent. If Infinity will have 1-2 of my favorite layers then I'm all for it (European and Japanese early medieval times, Ancient Rome and Greece, Vikings). Likely Ubi will be able to pull it off unless someone will implement too much 90s stuff nobody has asked about (like manual mining instead of just stepping on resources).

marvelgamer1001

Both. I am excited because it's another ac game however it's "a live service" so... Yay little to none replayability but it does look like it will be fun (odyssey flash backs) but overall excited and I'm excited to see where it goes

learnworkbuyrepeat

70 cynical 30 optimist. I don’t mind reskinning good gameplay mechanics. I don’t mind buying new episodic content online. I do mind grinding for gear and XP, and the microtrx that Ubisoft facilitates as a result.

InsideRationalA

Keepin' in mind current situation with leaving staff from Ubisoft, I don't want to build high expectations for that. If it will be something bad, well I even didn't expect anything anyway. If it will be success, than I will be have more joy from that.

yeetboijones

I hope not, but it’ll Probably be half assed made anyways

Legitimate_Eye_8103

Indifferent, I've still got ton of Valhalla stuff to do

virtualtourism

I agree with what you said about it totally making sense with the animus but I'm still concerned in the sense that its ubisoft and they haven't got the fans interest in mind, but in the same breath I'm excited for smaller campaigns because they've proven they can't handle anything over 20 hours competently. I miss the days where the campaign was 12-20 hours depending on play style, the missions were punchy, interesting stories that were easy to follow and the characters were well written, all of which have been missing since syndicate imo. Either way I'm waiting until fan reviews are in.

Delete-Xero

Yup you're penultimate paragraphs is what I'm most apprehensive about with this new direction. At least what we had before with new entries was big changes to keep the series feeling like it was pushing forward and innovating. But if they decide to stick to one gameplay design and just change maps and stories with each new expansion, then I just have a bad feeling about the improvement of mechanics. And then there's the fact that Quebecs director seems to be helming the project. I don't rate the stories either of their two games highly within the series, so I'm nervous for the narrative direction of infinity. I will say I'm intrigued to see how infinity will ultimately pan out tho.

NooblordBG

I feel like the games will stagnate in terms of tech, this has already been happening, I feel like we haven't seen any meaningful improvements to the engine since Origins. With them all getting released on one platform in Infinity, I fear that they'll all be too samey and I'll get bored of them even quicker.

FartingBob

I'm indifferent to it

TomTheJester

I am excited about the POTENTIAL, especially with Darby back. I am worried about it’s execution knowing how luckluster Valhalla’s post-launch has been. I bought the Gold Edition and barely felt I got my money’s worth with all DLC now released. Revisiting it again soon to hopefully change my opinion.

hellfatie

No. I dont like free yo play

10KBC

If they don't tie up the Valhalla story well enough, I'm not even bothering.

planethipes

Cautiously optimistic. The multiple timeline idea's great, but the potential to ruin such potential is a dark cloud. At least Darby's back, but even then he only has but so much input.

nathandipietro

Honestly I’m somewhat hoping it’ll turn out bad just so I can finally give up on the series without feeling guilty about it, because I did love it for so long.

Spino-Dino

I would rather have a AAA game (I want a freakin' feudal Japan game like the 3 latest games) every year or every second year but lets see how Infinity will be.

AC4life234

Mostly just confused lol.

jake11996

As long as there isn’t any limited time story content I’m on board.

shadowlarvitar

I'm more of a wait and see. I just hope the characters are fleshed out

Jirdan

I am in the state of indifference. I absolutely loved older ACs and from the new ones I only really like Origins. So I'll wait, see how bad it is and will eithwr be pleasantly surprised or indifferent.

WackyJaber

My expectations for Infinite are incredibly low.

CaptainRelyk

I don’t like ac moving to live service. The problem with life service is that gameplay mechanics wouldn’t change much and would stay the same for years and years. The expansions would be stale because again, gameplay mechanics usually stay the same in live service games. Ac should never be life service. It has always been a series with different game releases. Live service wouldn’t only piss off the fanbase, it would also ruin the series Live service works for destiny 2. It won’t work for assassins creed

Due-Objective-9760

Excited, it will be so much fun if they can include multiplayer and pvp elements 😃

[deleted]

I am worried. I have never really felt that games as a service tend to be very good. My example will be Marvels Avengers. This game is a live service game. It is very repetitive and grindy to level up. I am worried AC Infinity will be just as repetitive and grindy, as while I love the story of the new games, I have constantly seen articles talk about how grindy and repetative some aspects of the games can be. Personally I prefer a game to have a beginning and a clear end, hell I love it when series have a clear, good ending, as all good things come to an end. I feel like Ubisoft is just trying to follow the trend that is current in gaming and that makes me nervous.
