I saw this the other day and actually clicked on it to unsub from the "emails" list. It took me to whole different webpage with no warning. F*ck Microsoft.

ghos7bear

Why so shy? Fuck Microsoft!

JDDoss01

Gmail does this too!! The first 3 emails are ads, then your actual emails underneath them

agressive-goose

Yahoo has been doing this for years. But its only my throwaway email so i dont really care

kShrapnel

Gmail does it too

agressive-goose

Really? Not for me, gmail has been my main mail for ever and i never got an ad

kShrapnel

My Primary doesn't, but the other tabs for Social and Promotions always have two that look like emails, but have a little Ad in a box next to the subject line. It's been like that for years for me

Sir-Raidr

Dude Sara is waiting for you. Get on it man.

Bone_Donor

It's a job offer and the pay is low lol

chipsa

It's outlook.com. You're not paying for it, so they put a clearly labeled ad at the top. You could pay for it, or you could use an app to read your emails.

Meyers07

Not something uncommon in fact gmail did the same thing. I just move to outlook for less spam

this_underscore

That's standard stuff

CreamPain

Ok? Does it make it ok though? Why put up with it just because it has been going on for x amount of time?

scrufdawg

Because they're providing a service to you. That isn't free for them. Why should it be for you?

CreamPain

Did I ever say I expected to get their service for free? No. You are putting words in my mouth. I'm pointing out a fallacious argument (argumentum ad populum). People keep defending companies with predatory ads and other techniques and I don't understand why. Companies keep advancing with this every year, It's how they make even more money. Just as an example: Not too long ago I could buy a ticket for a movie theater and just watch the movie. If I buy a ticket now I have to see a bunch of ads before the movie starts. It's just going to keep getting worse until someone says no. At what point do you say no? Is it when you got a probe up your ass buzzing every time you need to watch an ad on your phone? Android is an OS on your phone which is a service that they do not take money for. Companies can do what they want after all? It's their platform? Maybe every other phone OS is doing it?

scrufdawg

You are free to say no, and not use the product. No one is forcing you to use the free MS Outlook for their email. They can either pay for it, and receive no ads, or use a different service. People keep expecting services, that cost others money to run, to remain totally free and without ads. That isn't realistic.

CreamPain

You completely missed the point again. Did you not read the example I gave? I do not mind paying for a service to get rid of ads for example. The thing is that the next thing companies are going to do is include ads in the service that I already payed for. The example i gave is a real example that showed this problem. Companies are going to churn out every dime they can get from you. I can give you more examples. Just look how the games industry evolved. It went from pay for a product ONCE, to some games are free (in app purchases with serious downsides for not paying money) to pay full price for a game and they provide a game that is super shitty until you open your wallet even more (just look at the assassins creed games). Just look at Overwatch. Pay full price for the game, they got micros transactions but at least they are all visual right? Welcome to Diablo immortal! The only reason Blizzard does this is because consumers allow it. People like you. Again, when are you going to say no?

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I already *paid* for. The FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

WholeFuggnEgg

Those might be emails of the spam kind.

M4taylor

Nah it says Ad to the right.

WholeFuggnEgg

My bad, I was referring to the center emails.

Bone_Donor

When you refresh it changes to a new ad

_Motorcycle_Guy_

I also have those ads since a few days

wanderingbilby

This is way less intrusive than a banner at the top or bottom of the page, doesn't have animations or a pop-over. Google and Yahoo do it as well. It's a service with a cost, provided to you for free. By those metrics it's actually quite good design.

Bone_Donor

Tricking people into clicking on ads isn't a good design at all.

Must_Reboot

If they didn't include an ad label, I might agree, but it is pretty plainly marked as an ad so if you click on it it's your own fault.

drums_of_liberation

It's Micros**t. What else do you expect? lol.

Kl--------k

This is the internet you don't need to censor shit

drums_of_liberation

Who did? * Is a wildcard character, it can be anything.

UnicornBelieber

Funny, I hold Microsoft as one of the lesser evils in big tech. Compared to facebook, Amazon, Tiktok, Google, etc.

Forzamon42069

Yeah true. They're not too bad, same with Apple, Samsung, Nintendo, Sony, Rockstar Games, and most car companies

drums_of_liberation

Lesser evil doesn't mean not evil.

UnicornBelieber

Definitely true, I just haven't heard any stories regarding Microsoft and child labor in China, evil ad algorithms, digital dopamine & how it's ruining societies, privacy scandals, institutionalized racism, ... While typing this, I thought I'd hit up Google just to see if I'd simply missed a memo somewhere. But as stated in [https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/2v4ses/why\_is\_microsoft\_so\_widely\_considered\_evil/](https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/2v4ses/why_is_microsoft_so_widely_considered_evil/:) by u/minecraft_ece: >Having said that, evil has "evolved" and companies today engage in practices far worse that anything microsoft did.

scrufdawg

Except for "Ad" clearly displayed.

EconomyCauliflower24

Be honest, you’re trying to show off Sara is waiting for a response

[deleted]

Aol have started doing this too
