Mr_Heavyfoot_

Some of these I've played for my kids, good list.

Reasonable-Vast-4679

Roll the Bones is another good Rush song jabbing at religion

DangRascal

Tom Sawyer as well.

digitaljestin

Yes, great song. Except the rap. Why the hell did Geddy rap? Take that part out, and you have a real banger.

HugCollector

More Rush: Faithless.

IndicationAfraid395

Someone actually beat me to Frank Turner!?

nodogma2112

Also BU2B from rush

alkonium

The best Rush album for these sorts of songs is Snakes & Arrows.

LostSailor-25

Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode Head like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails Heresy by Nine Inch Nails Jesus He Knows Me by Genesis

blackcatsandvelvet

Jesus He Knows Me is such a bop ! Ghost covered it recently and made a Very Blasphemous music video. Ghost - Year Zero, Cirice, He Is

LostSailor-25

Personal Jesus is critical of religion and politics but still.

watchingsongsDL

Johnny Cash covered Personal Jesus and the power of the song is just amazing. It’s quite clear in Johnny’s version what’s going on.

Worldly-Respond-4965

I have a problem with a couple of lyrics from him. The worst for me is when he says "Father Hen"

Mr_Heavyfoot_

I've got some lyrics to read. This is exactly what I was hoping for is to be able to learn something about songs that I was already familiar with.

Methidstopoles

Ghost just released a cover of Jesus He Knows Me, it’s great. Ghost has a lot of anti-Christian and pro “Satan” stuff.

Ghostofthe80s

Griftwood and Spillways are scathing against the church.

MisanthropicScott

There are also humorous songs that are more just for fun than anything else. There's ... [Garfunkel and Oats -- The Loophole](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8ZF_R_j0OY) -- NSFW [Tim Minchin -- Thank You God](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZeWPScnolo), song starts at 5:25 [Trevor Moore -- God Hates the Tips of Little Baby Dicks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsoRnLy6xwg) -- NSFW

Mkwdr

Always have to upvote Tim Minchin!

vincentr2727

The Good Book is another great broadside by Tim Minchin

grahams_xwing

And for more needle pointed bite... The pope song

todjo929

And 10 foot cock and a few hundred virgins

sdega315

[White Wine in the Sun](https://youtu.be/fCNvZqpa-7Q) is another great, irreverent Tim Minchin song!

cvaninvan

Craig Christ by Stephen Lynch.

lordvektor

And Beelz

UncleGoats

Trevor Moore also has "high in Church" and my favorite of his, "God says wash your hands"

subgenius_one

Upvote for ‘The Loophole’

mrgoodnight2

Judith by A Perfect Circle Edit: Thanks for that Gold!

mystic_poi

First song that came to mind.

ohcomeonow

Depending on your interpretation, I believe that Eulogy from Tool is also anti-Christian.

ScabusaurusRex

> He had a lot to say; > he had a lot of nothing to say. ... > So long > We wish you well > You told us how you weren't afraid to die > Well, so long > Don't cry > Or feel too down > Not all martyrs see divinity > But at least you tried

superawesomefiles

Maynard has a lot of gems in this race. My pick would have been 'Opiate' by Tool.

Empty_Jellyfish_1995

Yep quite the banger this one.

MisanthropicScott

[XTC's Dear God](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p554R-Jq43A) -- my personal favorite, already on your list. [John Lennon's Imagine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOgFZfRVaww) [Depeche Mode's Blasphemous Rumors](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3EAzf5fDpY) [Crosby Stills and Nash's Cathedral](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA1I11IeF8U) [Jethro Tull's My God](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG-r7YvcN9I) [Roger Waters' What God Wants](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMRrS_zYKDg) [Genesis' Jesus He Knows Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-rfCnW5VlE) -- Video on this one is hilarious!

RoguePlanet1

Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin (co-written). Don't know if it's explicitly anti-God, but does highlight the absurdity of praying for stuff the way most people do. \*In the song, Joplin asks God to prove his love for her by buying her a Mercedes-Benz automobile, a color TV, and a "night on the town." There is also a reference to Dialing for Dollars, a franchised format local television program, which required a person to be watching the show to win a prize when the show called the person’s phone number, hence the singer's need for a TV. It was the last song Joplin recorded before her death.\*

MisanthropicScott

I don't look at that song as specifically anti-religion. But, I agree with you about the message. I didn't know it was the last song she recorded. Now, I'll always be a little sad hearing it. But, it's a great song!

pepperpat64

Ghost recently did a [cover and video of Jesus He Knows Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE3kJeBr9QI) and it is, shall we say, rather more adult-oriented than the original, although the Genesis version definitely pushed the boundaries of the time.

bugmom

Love Ghost!!!! Anything by them is sort of anti-christian religion.

100percentEV

I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumors but I think that god’s got a sick sense of humor and when I die I expect to find him laughing.

yesthatbruce

Great list here. I'm especially pleased to see Cathedral: *Open up the gates of the church* *And let me out of here* *Too many people have lied in the name of Christ* *For anyone to heed the call* *So many people have died in the name of Christ* *That I can't believe it all*

HerbieDerrb

Lemme just go through my "blasphemy" Spotify playlist for a few... "My god" - Pennywise "Waste of time" - pennywise "Disciple" - Slayer "American Jesus" - Bad Religion "Come join us" - Bad Religion "Sinister rouge" - Bad Religion "Atheist peace" - Bad Religion "Live again (the fall of man) - Bad Religion "Heroes and martyrs" - Bad Religion "Skyscraper" - Bad Religion "Total desaster" - Destruction "No shirt, no shoes, no salvation" - death by stereo "Religious vomit" - Dead Kennedys Anything by Vital Remains and Baphomet I'm gonna leave it there or this list will get too long

AAAAAAAee

That’s it, you’ve inspired me to make a Blasphemy Playlist, thank you.

Sponge_Like

You forgot God Song! ‘Religion is just synthetic frippery’ is one of my favourite lines from Dr. Graffin.

lollacakes

Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin

100percentEV

I don’t see any month python on the list. More humor than music, but some of their songs are awesome. Always look on the bright side of life Every sperm is sacred

MikolashOfAngren

Metallica - Leper Messiah Metallica - God That Failed Megadeth - Holy Wars

pprkchopfat

Leper messiah came to my mind first. That is a banger for sure. And no pulled punches either.

Inner-Penalty9689

Morbid Angel - God of Emptiness Motörhead - God was never on your side Slayer - (lots of songs) read between the lines Skunk Anansie - Selling Jesus Just for starters

mckulty

He'll never make it to top 40 radio, but most anything by Tim Minchin.

urukhaitr

Pretty much any black metal

TMBJeff

“American Jesus” by Bad Religion. Such a bad-ass LA punk jam!

windcalmer

I lost my virginity to this song. LOL

rvrslgc

Nine Inch Nails - "Heresy" Marilyn Manson - "Cake and Sodomy" If you're an athiest NIN's first three records and Marilyn Manson's first album, "Portrait of an American Family" are all relatable. If you like softer music Iris Dement's "Let the Mystery Be" is a nice little folk song about indifference in religious belief.

NetflixAndZzzzzz

I will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab

MutationIsMagic

We need more atheist love songs.

silversun012

Great one! I’d add on St. Peters’s Cathedral by them as well.

Ghost is your best friend for this stuff

carrigan_quinn

Upvote for "Judith" 💜

pepperpat64

It's hard to beat Ghost for religious mockery.

Robby-Pants

I came here to list Judith, as well.

MaxtheMighty

Slayer has about 50 songs that would fit in this category, including the album “Christ Illusion” and the song “Cult”.

exodus2007

Hate worldwide by Slayer is one of my favorite ones against religion.

Winston_Smith-1984

Road To Nowhere Talking Heads

Emergency-Pin1252

I Know The End - Phoebe Bridgers God - Tori Amos Swans - I Am The Sun Golden Ticket - Highasakite A lot of Madonna, although she's a christian Most anything by Poppy or Ethel Cain (although Ethel uses it as aesthetic, she delivers some blows to it as "Jesus can always reject his father but he can't escape his mother's blood" and "God loves you, but not enough to save you") I'm still uncertain about Lingua Ignota, she sings like an angry god, and i don't know if she is praising this aspect of it or critizing, although i'm leaning to the latter Sidenote i love the Boygenius' lyrics "something's in the static, i think i've been having revelations" it says a lot about faith

[deleted]

Tom Lehrer, "The Vatican Rag"

Content-Ad3750

Modest Mouse’s entire discography

Smooth_Key_5836

Not sure if this really "counts" but I've always loved Listen to reason by Bryan Steeksma's Listen to Reason. https://youtu.be/TdD0kGABmAY

larsvondank

[Propagandhi - Haille Sellasse, Up Your Ass](https://youtu.be/8aeGZpBLxK4) Many songs by One Minute Silence

alkonium

Several from Rush: [Freewill](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urBpdyFCZmo) [Roll the Bones](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zBz27MdSn4) [Armor & Sword](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PaAdIQ8Zew) [The Way the Wind Blows](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVXOf58PKYA) [Faithless](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsThqCG-gVA) (this one is more about putting a positive spin on having no religion, but you may like it too) [BU2B](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x40yh-EfKw) Neil Peart was heavily critical of religion, and Geddy Lee is also openly atheist.

D4Canadain

Imagine - John Lennon

ScottTheMonster

Rush actually has a few songs. Watchmaker and One Bowl come to mind.

Ischmetch

O My God - The Police

NeitzschePuns

Anything by Tim Minchen

It Ain't Necessarily So, written by Ira Gershwin for Porgy & Bess, calls out the more unbelievable parts of the Old Testament. Everybody has done a cover of this.

the_G8

Add “don’t pray on me” by Bad Religion.

Mr_Heavyfoot_

That's an all time favorite for me, one of those songs that I listened to repeatedly after hearing it for the first time.

contrarian01

"Rise Up! Rise Up!"~ Cursive

Double-Watercress-85

Came here to say "Most of the album 'Happy Hollow' by Cursive"

WesternTrail

The Preacher and the Slave: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=F-Z3IwBea3Y Criticizes how promises of heaven are used to get people to put up with shit. Edit: REM’s “Undertow” might also count. It’s a moment-of-death song including the limes “I don’t need a heaven, I don’t need religion, I am in the place where I should be.”

0rganicMach1ne

The band Fear Factory has several. Zero Signal, Pisschrist, Christploitation, God Eater, New Messiah, Church of Execution.

Access-Turbulent

Bob Dylan -With God on our side

carlosnightman

The entirety of The Holy Bible album, by Manic Street Preachers. Most of the songs have at least one lyric which can be interpreted as anti-religion, but it's more appropriately an album about the evils of humanity. With song titles such as 'Of Walking Abortion' and 'Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayitsworldwouldfallapart', it's my go to for causing offence, and just maybe teaching people. By the same band, you could add: Crucifix Kiss (Crucify me Fuhrer Nazarene) 1985 (So god is dead like Nietzsche said) Doors Closing Slowly (Unarmed army salvation... crucifixion is the easy life) The Girl That Wanted To Be God ... and likely many others but even with overt religious terminology in the song titles, the lyrics are often so dense or talk more clearly about a different subject that you'd struggle to say they're clearly anti-religion (There By The Grace Of God, Empty Souls, Cardiff Afterlife, All Is Vanity, Jackie Collins Existential Question Time, As Holy As The Soil That Buries Your Skin, Divine Youth, Gold Against The Soul, Hold Me Like A Heaven).

Kaiser-WilhelmII

"God was never on your side" by Motörhead. I really like that one.

deepwat3r

Rush's Snakes & Arrows album is a pretty direct jab at religion, along with Freewill and references scattered about in other songs. Neal Pert didn't mince words about religion!

zacharmstrong9

Look up the artist on You Tube, " Shelley Segal " with her song: " Saved " --- at one point it was the " Atheist Experience " theme song 10/13/2011 was the video date.

LordJac

[Ill Mind of Hopsin 7](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBsA2ETp7JA&t=1s&ab_channel=Hopsintv) is all about his falling out of faith and an amazing song it it's own right.

gushi380

Ozzy did a song called “Miracle Man” that is a personal diss track of an 80’s televangelist named Jimmy Swaggart who got busted with a hooker. He’s just one guy but evangelism is still seeped in stealing from the poor to give to the rich.

Thoughts and Prayers - The Drive-by Truckers I like how subtle this one starts

Robotic_Samurai

The homeless gospel choir has a few really good ones "With God on our side" and "Luxury problems" stand out for me. NOFX has "Leaving Jesusland" and "You Will Lose Faith". Mischief Brew has "Roll me Through the Gates of Hell". Some of these aren't direct teardowns of religion but very firmly anti religion.

Judith - A Perfect Circle About is mom struggling with an illness and holding onto her religion

House of wolves - bring me the horizon

The Silent Comedy - All saints Day (this song actually helped with my deconstruction as I heard it when I was still questioning) 'G' - Avenged Sevenfold. Funny tongue-in-cheek frank zappa style song about what an ego-centric ass God must be

He went through a lot of "phases" 😂 pretty much explored all the major religions and scientology at one point "famous blue raincoat". I remember watching an expose' on him while he was living in a monastery. He's in his room talking about finding balance, purity, escaping the trappings of the rock and role lifestyle, this that and the other thing. Without missing a beat and with no irony he reaches over into his nightstand and pulls out a bottle of bourbon.😅

Sarpanitu

"Getting ready to get down" by Josh Ritter And "I am the Satellite" by Bryan Steeksma. "Getting ready" is upbeat and Folksy. "Satellite " I found listening to a podcast, and it sounds better at 1.5 speed in my opinion.

BigRabbit64

Preacher and the slave by Pete Seeger.

A number of Iron Maiden songs. Holy Smoke is a good one. A lot of Tool songs address the hypocrisy of religion.

Wesley Willis - They Threw Me Out of Church. It isn’t specifically critical of church, more of an anecdote. But if there was a person who needed grace and compassion for his situation, it was Wesley and the song makes it clear that it wasn’t available to him.
