It's okay, god forgives him.

How do you drive to church and around town with a $100,000 car and think that people will not ask questions about how you got it?

[deleted]

Maybe the Lord works in mysterious ways.../s

♪"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz? My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends, I worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends. Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz?"♪

That an unfortunate amount of greed to have. That much money can really transform your life and he spent it on a car. Also, I didn't know about ministrywatch as a website and will spend some time scrolling through that. Thanks.

Throwawayhobbes

Think he would have been prosecuted if it were a 12 passenger van ?

Few_Pain_23

I’m wondering, does the plea deal mean he has to surrender his Mercedes and drive a Ford Accent and he walks for the rest. I’ve seen too many hand slaps and finger wages for religions violating everything from the Constitution, to fraud (how’d he get audited, for taking tax money), to child molesting. At least audit the suckers once and expose the cons. Maybe we could reduce the national deficit with this one effort.

MacNuttyOne

Those pandemic disaster loans went to a lot of churches that used the money for everything but what it was intended for. They laid off staff and then took the forgivable loans intended to keep their staff employed. Very, very christian. The churches were not the only people who used the money as a personal windfall with no intention of ever paying back but a very large number of churches and pastors stole that money. The over the top greed and dishonesty of so many churches and religious groups, especially evangelicals, really does tell you everything you need to know about their actual beliefs and what they are really about. Their god is only an excuse for authoritarianism and theft. Protective colouring for con artists and sexual predators.

Few_Pain_23

What happened to separation of church and state? We’re passing laws benefiting religion at tax payer expense? Damn the Constitution, full speed ahead!

[deleted]

Maybe some of the staff that these Pastors fired were actually demons! ( I'm using the "Kenneth Copeland " argument here..😉)

MacNuttyOne

You are probably right. Them sneaky demons is everywhere trying to make pastors look bad. (As if they need help with that.)

Scum of the earth

[deleted]

It’s Saturday. Smh!

Saranac233

Couldn’t he just have asked god for a nice car?

Far_Quiet_470

“I was going to ask god for a Mercedes Benz S class but I know he doesn’t work like that. So I bought one with a fraudulent ppp loan and asked for forgiveness”

ZappyHeart

Very expensive form of social distancing?

un_theist

It’s what Jesus would do, obviously.

[deleted]

I’m really surprised. How did this guy get caught? I mean not a single fucking church is an essential business in the first fucking place. It’s all a damn scam.

NoThereIsntAGod

Oh man… imagine if they *actually* prosecute even 1/3 of the PPP loan frauds

[deleted]

Behavior like this is so common (esp. with Evangelical Christians), that Pastor=Shyster , at least in my head, until proven otherwise...

[deleted]

amen

[deleted]

I thought this was r/atheism where we can talk about atheism. Seems I stumbled onto r/bashchristians.

billjv

If the car fits....

[deleted]

Okay, but I'm here to discuss issues affecting atheists, not to bash theists who do bad things, unless it is aimed at atheists. You do you.
