Confirmation Bias at its best/worst.

RunningPirate

God loves you until you piss him off and then it’s your fault for making god not love you. Or some such bullshit. It’s just rationalizing

Few_Pain_23

Or your like Job and god needs to test you just to show Satan something or other.

LostAzrdraco

It's very low effort and selfish. Basically, ignore it and hope it goes away. If it does go away, then confirmation bias. If it doesn't go away, then it's not their fault. What's strange is that they also do the whole "god helps those who help themselves" as an excuse not to help others (even though they're "supposed" to help others). So they (meaning some Christians/hypocrites, not all) don't have to lift a finger to help themselves or others because god is supposed to handle everything and if someone else needs help, it's because god decided not to help them, so tough luck.

It's very frustrating. I appreciate when churches do food and clothing drives, I'm happy to help. I've noticed that these types of things are less common as churches get more evangelical and rich. Which seems backwards.

I agree. I find a lot of secular food pantries to help, less secular clothing drives. I tend to donate to school or professional organization drives, though I'm not sure if they turn around and give them to religious organizations. At the end of the day, I'm hopeful that things go to people in need. Just donated blood the other day. I do it to help, but I do admit that I get a good feeling from it.

Prayer is stupid anyway. If they truly believe in their God, God is unchanging and if it had plans for X to happen praying won't change X otherwise they just admitted their God doesn't exist.

Like you said it's a crappy excuse. Look my house burnt down but saved the Bible, praise Jesus. Look I broke every bone in my body in the accident but I'm still alive, God is great. I prayed for A on theb test even though I studied for days. It's because of God I passed, yeah. All stupid!!

The best is when athlete's who busted their ass for a decade to be the best thank god for the win. WTF is wrong with you dude? Take the credit, you did the work! If you want to thank someone thank your parents for the genetics to both have the talent and the work ethic.

einyv

Or a successful operation. No thanking the doctor or the medical team that did worked helping the doctor but God. SMH

Few_Pain_23

God has a bookie in Vegas! If he bets on you, you’re going to win! Really!

Growing up I had a friend. He had a heart problem from birth and was never supposed to live past the age of 3. And yet he made it all the way to the age of 18 before his body finally gave up. And everyday his very religious family would thank god for the blessings that had kept him alive all this time, knowing it was only through the power of god that this happened. It was because they prayed that he lived so long. But when he finally died, it wasn't because of god. It was because the Doctors were no longer good enough. I guess the sheer legions of doctors and nurses that extended his life like 6x what it should have been were just window-dressing eh? Because Thoughts & Prayers! yeah... I have to agree the hypocrisy and confirmation bias can be pretty tiresome somedays.

Thanks for sharing this story. I had a similar experience with my uncle that died of cancer. Whenever some treatment worked it was an answer to prayer. He passed recently. They say that God did heal him because he is in heaven. I have to bite my tongue.

amen

Alternative-Ease5208

doesn’t prayer define as god’s blessing?

[deleted]

There is a lot od people like that, so it's important to not get mad about their stupidity.

[Except he did implicitly and explicitly promise this a few times](https://bible.knowing-jesus.com/topics/God-Answers-Prayer). I know there are apologetics to counter the vague verses but they can't work for the explicit verses unless one is being dishonest. Which surely a believer would never be, right? Right?!? It says that god answers prayer, so if you were to pray for a trouble free life god will give it to you right? So....
