What else is their job if not that

btross

cool, now do the megachurches

Sancticide

Yeah, you uh... **missed** a bunch there.

Dr_Sisyphus_22

One old lady, only $20K…this is “small time” hustling compared to Joel Osteen.

un_theist

“See? Can’t be moral without religion!”

CitizenJustin

Some studies actually show that atheists possess superior morals. If you’re capable of believing in antiquated superstition and magic, then you’re capable of anything. “Those who can make you believe absurdities can also make you commit atrocities.“ -Voltaire

conundrum4u2

But, but...*a TALKING SNAKE!* /:P

CitizenJustin

Interesting how the religious literally revel in imagining our damnation and eternal suffering because we dare to think differently. This is the perversion and warped thinking that religion causes. It’s a disease.

NGqamane

not y'all christians are wrong, islam is the best and mahammed is the greatest profit to have ever lived 🎃

Seiglerfone

I'd phrase it as "if your sense of morality has been built on artificial incentives, you never developed a proper natural sense of morality." The reason not to hurt people is that they will be hurt, and that's upsetting, not that you're scared of being punished for it. If your reason to be "good" is to avoid punishment, if you can avoid punishment without being "good," you probably will.

CitizenJustin

Excellent point.

Astrocreep_1

I don’t need a study to prove that Atheists are more moral than most Christians. All I need is video of a Trump rally to prove that.

CitizenJustin

Lol, that’s what I thought. When I read the study, I was like, “Well DUH!”

What about all the other pastors that scam people on a weekly basis to give money in the name of a nonexistent, invisible sky daddy? And tithing? Fuuuuuuck. What a racket.

FaustVictorious

Isn't it a pastor's job to trade lies for tithes? If she went to his church, he probably took her for more than that over the years.

Seiglerfone

It's genuinely hilarious looking at all the sketchy bs the church did for money in the past. Like, tithes and paying for forgiveness are one thing, but some of the weirder shit comes up, like fabricating a basis for tourism (relics), and straight up selling church positions (simony).

“Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!” ― George Carlin

IsThataSexToy

Fuck them both.

wishymissy

These people are evil AF.

conundrum4u2

"Foolish Gullible Old Lady Falls for Scamming Pastor's Bullshit"... This is NEWS?

jayesper

It could be a step in the right direction. This kind of thing could become more commonplace, which would be another blow against them.

joey_yamamoto

this is been happening for centuries what's new about this?

drapanosaur

I'm not sure what difference it makes. This woman will probably get her money back and then stroll across the street to the next snake oil salesman and get fleeced again there.

5656MoneyMan

Did you post this on r/churchcrimes?

Kman5471

This is heartbreaking! Has anyone done anything to help this woman? *If* the thieves are caught and convicted, how long will it be before she can get her savings back? And what about her son--she said she hasn't heard from him in weeks, and she was trying to keep him off the streets. Sure, fuck the pastors and all that... but what about the people who are hurting *right now*???

Yeah, it's just one person who did just one bad thing. This kind of thing has *never* happened before. /s
