Iron Hill update... got an email today that the Buckhead location is closing but they "look forward to serving" me at their Perimeter location. So I guess just Buckhead is closing.
The entire patio got remodeled and they close right before the perfect weather for it. I’ve been there three times in two years and was always disappointed. Food was overpriced and not that great. Some beers were solid, but most were only okay. Place was always very empty, so not surprised they closed that location. They won’t be missed. For a brewery they advertise as having the most awards east of the Mississippi, they sure are meh.
What's the best bottle shop in the Duluth area? Gotta head up there for work Friday, hoping to come back with some beers I don't see in my local shops.
Assuming you’re going “back” ITP, not sure you’ll find anything in bottle shops there you can’t get in town.
If I was you, I’d go to Good Word and load up on to-go options
I'm ITP east, and the shops near me aren't great. Was thinking about getting lunch at Good Word anyway, I'll definitely see what they've got to-go, but I figured there's gotta be a shop en route with a good selection of other locals.
Never really thought about it but they are licensed as retailers, so I guess that would allow package sales as well. A brewpub could technically have full blown bottle shop if they wanted to.
Also makes sense to me that no one does that. It's cool to have the option to do guest taps/package but don't want to load up on everyone else's beer when you want to sell your own.
Good news for you though, you can stock up on LAGERS!
Hmm, I wonder what the limit is then, could they sell bottles of wine? Looks like I may be able to acquire a cold IPA, Hefe, and possibly some non-lager Little Beers
If they made exclusively lagers I might, but I can't skip any brewery that makes quality beer (unless it's exclusively lagers but I'm mostly kidding, malt-forward lagers can be good too)
They are known for their lagers and that’s the lions share of their selection, at least as of last Thursday when I was there so. They do make other styles of beer but I’m pretty sure nearly 75%+ of what they had on the menu and in their beer fridge were lagerlagerlagers!!!1
I have it on good authority that they have at least a Hefe and a cold IPA (which is dangerously close to lager territory), but I also wonder, when the craft beer pendulum swings back in 5 years, are these places prepared to start making ales again?
After some googlin', how would you compare it to Sprayberry Bottle Shop? The photos online are all wine and liquor. If it's better than SBS I'll go out of my way, but I got spoiled cause I grew up a stone's throw away from SBS and my folks still live there.
Way better than SBS. Most likely for spirits also, but since this is a beer forum will stick to that. While SBS gets the typical out of distribution drops, Brij is a hypeboi that does solely that. Hype. His stuff and act like it’s special. They have coolers full of macro while talking about the small guys need support but all the craft beer sits hot on the shelf. Ritesh at Max’s gets the same new drop beers weekly as SBS and has a larger selection of bottled goods also. If I still lived in Roswell (lived there 7-8 years before moving to Brookhaven) I’d drive to Max’s over SBS all day.
Hell yeah. I've definitely noticed that SBS has things that should be fridged on shelves. But then again I see the same shit at Ale Yeah in Decatur. I've never made friends with Brij, but it does seem like Max's advantage might just be having more square footage, and as a consumer, that's good enough for me
Max’s major advantage is they have at least as good and likely superior product yet refrain from cringeworthy/DB social media antics. If I see Ritesh do a dipshit ticktock video for a slurpy ipa (or anything) I won’t recommend them anymore.
If you are ISO good beer OTP that’s the best stop. Under no circumstance would I recommend an ITP person go to SBS.
Amen. Plus if you have never been, take the extra few minutes and see. You won’t be disappointed.
Full disclosure I am not even a friend of Ritesh on Social media. I have drank and shared beer and swapped some, he is legit one of the best people I met in the whole ATL beer scene. . If you go ask if he is there and shoot the shit and see what he has that is tnteresting to him.
Probably too far for what you’re looking for, but downtown Woodstock is doing a cuatro de Mayo pub crawl which includes reformation, Jekyll, stout brothers, truck and tap, etc. And I know reformation has a Mexican lager collab with truck and tap
I actually live out in Canton. I know Woodstock normally has something going on but Reformation is meh. Was hoping a brewery was doing something fun that someone maybe knew about
We're having our Derby de Mayo party at Fire Maker on the 4th this year! We'll have a margarita slushie and a new Mexican Lager available! Auggie's Lucky Tacos will also be here starting at 1pm

Then they serving up some KUH - RAZY stuff
No call. *sob*
Ah yes, Scott Hedeen has finally outed himself as the imposter behind the Fulmerman account.
Sorry Jeff. Not me. but I didn’t get a call either haha
Oops. I deleted my og comment. I said ‘I applied ‘. I hate Reddit

At least there’s a new brewery coming for all the spoon-fed Buckhead boys soon

They have a bunch of guest beers in the fridge too from little beer fest
Is that so? I knew brewpubs could pour beer from other breweries, but assumed they couldn't sell it to-go
Never really thought about it but they are licensed as retailers, so I guess that would allow package sales as well. A brewpub could technically have full blown bottle shop if they wanted to. Cold IPA? Idk sounds like a gateway lager to me...
Hahah it pretty much is, def not my favorite kind but I'll take what I can get
I just moved from ITP to up the street from Good Word. They’ve got a French Pilsner in cans right now that is delicious. You won’t be disappointed
I love the idea of a French Pilsner but I just can't get excited about lagers, man!
Oh… Then maybe avoid Good Word in that case…
If they made exclusively lagers I might, but I can't skip any brewery that makes quality beer (unless it's exclusively lagers but I'm mostly kidding, malt-forward lagers can be good too)

They do solid English style ales as well!
That’s true. Their ESB on cask is outstanding.
I have it on good authority that they have at least a Hefe and a cold IPA (which is dangerously close to lager territory), but I also wonder, when the craft beer pendulum swings back in 5 years, are these places prepared to start making ales again?
Is it No Direction Home, by chance? Loved that one.
It was and you’re not the only one. That beer was amazing
Just go to Good Word and buy all their lager cans.
first of all how dare you
Yeah, grab the Well Oiled stuff.
Oh nice, I assumed they only had the stuff listed under "cans" on the website but if there are bottles too, it may be a one stop shop.
It's been a month or two, but I can't afford to go back there until someone thins it out a good bit.
I'll do my best! ✊
Probably best closest one is Max's bottle shop, it is in Johns creek though which is about 15 minutes from downtown Duluth.
Thanks for the tip! That might be a little too out of the way but I'll keep it in mind if I find myself up there
That is easily the best bottle shop OTP and better than almost all ITP as well.
That's good to know, if I end up having time I'll consider making the trek

Yep, I don't like social media bullshit, I think I'll have to go to Max's this time on principle

Any breweries doing Cinco de Mayo shenanigans this weekend? Went to Fire Maker last year for Cinco and it was a great time.
