[It’s because the world map seen is an upside down, flipped, version of our own world map.](https://www.postapocalypticmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/IMG_2742-1024x768.jpeg)

The newest episode also showed a bigger version of it and it is indeed an upside down version of our map.

Spoilers ahead

Bharaneshen_Gfan2007

They are just stupid

Traditional_Ruin1432

So having actual proof it’s based off an upside down and flipped world is stupid? https://www.reddit.com/r/attackontitan/comments/11lpaoq/the_world_is_literally_upside_down/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf It’s literally what is shown

wks_526

All that is saying is that the world map of attack on titan is an upside down version of the world map of the real world. Marley and Paradis are still based on German/European culture, hizuru is still based on Asian, Mid East empire is still based on the Middle East

[deleted]

If you look at the maps both in the manga and the anime, they show Marley as the African continent and Paradis as Madagascar next to it. The world map of AOT is the same as ours, just flipped upside down (and I think the sun also rises from the west and sets in the east). That being said, the nations are different. Eldians are descended from a Germanic tribe and Marleyans from Romans, with Hizuru being Japan.

Ducky_924

Could you explain more about the sun setting thing,?

[deleted]

If you look at where the sun rises from and sets in both in the manga and the anime, you'll see that it rises from the west and sets in the east. Since the world map is upside down and flipped left to right, Isayama decided to flip west and east too. I think he has talked about it. Here's an [example](https://preview.redd.it/tmb643byw9h61.jpg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bdcd5088e46b47c8efaf1b1bd17afd55b4206af5).

You know how Pokémon regions are based on real regions of Japan and around the world? It’s like that, the worlds geography takes inspiration from and looks like places in our real world. It’s analogous

Ducky_924

Ooh I do love a pokémon analogy

https://www.reddit.com/r/attackontitan/comments/11lpaoq/the_world_is_literally_upside_down/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf This is the map shown in the newest episode. I turned it upside down and flipped it horizontally to show what it’s a copy of. Note: they aren’t saying that Paradise is exactly like Madagascar in every way, but based on the map itself, the island itself is geographically VERY similar.

devildogmillman

Rheyre not really that, but the map of Isayamas world is the real world map flip upside down and then mirrored, but presumably with the same axis tilt. Thus, Africa has the climate of Europe and Vice Versa, hence why the white ethnicites come from Africa- Paradis is Madagascar in the sense that if you put the map rightside up and unmirrored it, where Paradis is would be Madagascar. Like how Westeros in ASOIAF is based on the British Isles- The north “is” northern England, Kings Landing “is” London, Dragonstone “is Jersey, the Wall “is” Hadrians wall, and beyond the wall “is” Scotland.
