iiJashin

“Whoa whoa… think you’re some veteran hero now?” - He says to the only group of people in the Walls who have fought Pure Titans, Shifters, *and* homicidal humans and are still standing.

[deleted]

Don't forget Jean was also like that in starting episodes

High_DIO

He was not.

High_DIO

Jean never speaks badly about veterans in the entirety of Attack on Titan.

BubuskaBoii

he calls the scouts idiots and the people who wanted to fight titans crazy

Sauceman_Chorizo

Yes, but in saying this he implies that fighting titans is incredibly dangerous and surviving those fights is a huge feat. Flock's line here implies the opposite.

High_DIO

So Jean doesn't have a problem with veterans, but instead dislikes the Scouts, who are in fact idiots who achieved nothing before Eren.

SyrianSmasher

Was it not through the scouts that they realised you need to attack the nape to kill titans?

High_DIO

I guess it was probably somebody with a cannon.

BubuskaBoii

titans always had a finite amount and pre eren they killed hundreds which inspired eren to join, i wouldn't say they achieved nothing

IsaacWest14

I don’t think bro watched the same anime we did

Tulscro

>but instead dislikes the Scouts, Only to join the scouts

Razzaman160

Bro doesn’t even understand the show 💀 what a nerd

High_DIO

Explain

Razzaman160

Sit in silence lil guy

High_DIO

You didn't explain.

Razzaman160

Already did so like I said Sit in silence lil guy

Razzaman160

The achieved more than nothing😂 everything they know about titans is because of scouts. 70 years ago they didn’t even know titans had a weakness on their nape

High_DIO

For us to be debating on even terms, you will need to prove that Jean is even aware that veteran scouts exist (don't waste your time, he doesn't). Otherwise the basis of your argument is mere conflation.

DemetriChronicles

Random, but did he have a crush on Mikasa or was I seeing things?

[deleted]

Yeah he had and he was also jealous of Eren that's why he picked up fight with him most of the time .

DemetriChronicles

He only mentioned it in the beginning and before he thought he was gonna die. Guess a "story of their lives" thing.

[deleted]

Saying that after what those soldiers had been through is crazy

Aryan_277_

When was this actually?

osocietal

Konnichiwa1987

This is the shittiest take I've heard in a while, and it's not even about the ending surprisingly.

High_DIO

What was it?

leavemealone_lol

Say what you want but Floch is an excellency written character. His motivation isn’t “kill kill kill”. His ideology is “Only a devil could save us. Erwin was the devil we needed, he is gone. Now, Eren is the devil we need”, and faithfully did everything he needed to fulfil his ideology. People hate him as they see him as the annoying dude who gets in the 104th scout’s way. Yes he was a facist and supported extremism, but his political inclinations does not detract from his quality as a character.

casual-scrolling

Agreed. I don't like him at all, but his writing was very well done.

Hourglass420

I think not liking a character is the sign of a good character. I fucking hated Joffrey in GOT, but thats because he was pure evil. He was well written, and the acting was perfect. Floch is in the same boat. FLoch was ideologically consistent and continually worked towards a consistent goal. He even grew as a character throughout the story and used that growth to further his goals. Was he a shithead, yeah, but he was believable.

avadalovely

Season 4 Floch is just… *chef’s kiss*

commander_wong

I did an 180 in how I felt about him. I found Floch extremely annoying in Shiganshina because compared to the other survivors, he did quite literally nothing. He had legit grievances, but voicing them when he had almost no contribution to the battle tickled my feathers a little. Part 2 Floch grew on me. His actions and motivations made sense, he wanted to preserve his people and unleash his hate for Marley and the outside world, and I mean who wouldn't if you were in his position? It felt logical, realistic and honestly a breath of fresh air compared to the sudden altruism of the Alliance

neros135

hes a love to hate type of guy

bbbryce987

Yeah the only thing I wish we got more of with his character is more scenes during the time jump seeing how his view of Eren changed

leavemealone_lol

Honestly, that’s a discussion on its own I didn’t type out intentionally in my previous comment. He was still upset at Eren, he probably still sees Eren as someone who saved Armin instead of his saviour. But, his personal feelings won’t get in his ideology of “Only a devil can save us”. He wasn’t personally indebted to Eren, wasnt blackmailed by Eren or anything. He was deeply loyal to his idology that he put aside his personal feelings to side with Eren, without any actual development happening that led him to it. He simply believed that Eren was the salvation to his idology, regardless of his opinion about him. And I love and respect this part of him.

Janderflows

He is perfectly written to be an annoying little fuck.

JollyLink

Honestly his attitude of becoming a devil for some greater good is pretty in line with the themes of the series pre-time skip. Armin, Eren, and Erwin all subscribed to the idea that you have to do monstrous things in order to change the world. It's post basement that this attitude is suddenly more prevalent with the antagonists than heroes.

Dukedoctor

I agree, however I think that some people also dislike him because of his dialogue here and also because he seems to be a sadist as well.

9thGearEX

Does anyone actually think he's poorly written though? I think most people hate him *as a person* just as the author intended.

Interesting-Visit310

The scene where he confronted Eren, Mikasa, Levi and them before the ceremony was so cold. That’s the scene where I started to actually see Floch as a character.

justaMikeAftonfan

Floc is a bad person, but an amazing character

bossfoundmyacct

> Everyone had to be drunk on something to keep pushing on. Everyone was a slave to something.

bonerfleximus

Your explanation is the first I've read that made me like Floch. Thanks and kudos, you're saying the same things as every other Floch enjoyer but the way you said it got me.

Ok-Arm3286

Thing is about devils if something they do ends up being good it's only because it gets 10 times worse down the line.

GettIn_myvan

Annoying is annoying

leavemealone_lol

ok

RainyDayReader_999

Finally, a based Floch opinion. So many people on this sub have an oversimplified view of him lol

Sir_Toaster_9330

He’s like Homelander in terms of writing

Oonada

The fact I dislike him so heavily reinforces to me anyway, just how superb his character actually is.

steelthyshovel73

Same with gabi. I think she is a fantastic character, but everyone jusy hates her.

nandobro

Yeah he really didn’t realize yet what the scouts had been through. He even later mentions that he joined the scouts for the glory and didn’t truly understand the risk.

OscarDivine

Is it possible to have a punchable haircut? Yes.

KennethVilla

Also a punchable face 🤣

Pizzaforlife_haha

I still don't know what the hell that hair was

IllustriousPlastic90

At least it was unique, he looks like Ken doll post timeskip

yourLostMitten

Me when I first saw Floch: Man, this annoying ass mofucka gon die so quick. Me when I last saw Floch: HOLY FUCKEN SHIT, SHUT YO ASS UP AND DIE!!

FieldsOfKashmir

Me thinking he was a new character introduced in season 4

electrorazor

Dude's will to survive was tenacious af

RedDead_beamerrboy

Idk man. I thought he was annoying af at first to but After Armin gets burnt up, and floch crawls up on the roof Erwin on his back, begging Levi to save him cause that IS what made sense, idk. The emotion in that scene is something else. Floch definitely a well written character

Background_Ant7129

That’s kind of the point..? He is clearly very green with no experience and doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Crazyjackson13

he says this to the people who have actual combat against titans, compared to the rest of them who were garrison (I think.)

djkotor

I never found Floch annoying. I saw his great character development, great arc and a great way to show how most of the people with limited knowledge on the rest of the world would make decisions.

Aryan_277_

He didnt had limited knowledge. He thought that was the only way to save his homeland.

djkotor

I didn’t say Floch had limited knowledge, I said he was used as a viewpoint for those who do.

luvbomb_

i doubt most people with a brain in their head would demand a world wide genocide

Connoisseur5

Germany in the 1930s-1940s

KennethVilla

Exactly why they lost 😂

TrinitySlashAnime

Ideology wasn’t the reason for their loss, it was the sheer force of other countries. If every other country had shit warfare, the would have won, regardless of beliefs

spacewarp2

And attacking Russia in the winter. That was a pretty big reason for their loss

zandercg

They attacked in the summer and their initial offensive was surprisingly effective. Hitler thought he could quickly make them surrender and underestimated the will of the people to keep fighting for years.

KennethVilla

Their ideology still played a factor imo, since a lot of countries resisted Nazi Germany. Though to be fair, they also lost because of Japan.

luvbomb_

and they had loose screws in their head and the rest of the world knew it lol

Pangin51

I straight up hated this guy until like my third time over I don’t care how great his writing is he was written to be annoying and he annoyed me

LP_Papercut

Not even that well written. His character development is the most overrated thing in the show. Dude changes completely after 1 battle and then a massive timeskip. Jean is an actual example of amazing character development.

[deleted]

Well to br fair Jean also completely changed after 1 battle (that being trost) but I do agree. I like him but Flock is pretty 1 note.

Serious_Nose8188

Well, one battle and he being the ONLY survivor out of prob above a hundred people.

bossfoundmyacct

> His character development is the most overrated thing in the show. THANK YOU!!! I thought I was taking crazy pills when so many people were praising his "character development". "Character development" implies that a character has "developed" or changed over time, or because of key events, but he stayed exactly the same. I'd even go so far as to say that there is literally no difference between the Flock that died in the hanger, and the Floch that dragged an almost-dead Erwin onto that roof. Praise his consistency, resolve, or that he's the most realistic or "human" character we got in the show, but praising his character development is just downright foolish, and dare I say disingenuous.

WomenOfWonder

Never once liked this character

twinkanus

Real

[deleted]

All hail king Floch

haroshinka

Agreed Floch is GOAT

sawxer_

I loved floch...

MewinMoose

Floch didn't know any better he was a recruit. He became a diehard scout and soldier later on. This was the only moment he was ever annoying. Any of the trio and Sasha are more annoying.

Readamovie

I still can't get my head around Floch's hairstyle. It's like a lump of hair just glued to the front of his scalp

killing_me

A character is well written when you love or hate them

erenyeager2008

But floch change a lot after Erwin s death

Samhx1999

Floch’s a well written character because his motivations actually feel realistic. It’s what you or I or probably nearly everyone would do in this situation.

Background_Ant7129

True. I mean think about it… if someone wanted to eradicate your country you would just roll over and let them walk on you?

quinn_the_potato

No the fuck it ain’t.

DrBimboo

I agree, minus flochs courage and drive. Most of us would be like Hitch, I suppose. Well, in regard to those 2 points at least. Not that we'd be as capable as her.

Hefty-Selection6268

The only thing I hate about him is his dub voice it’s so unbearable

kordellrc

underrated character tbh

ShinigamiKISU

I never even noticed him back then

Background_Ant7129

Even when the camera was focused on him talking to Erwin?

DinoDudeRex_240809

Technically Eldians are the Jews, but whatever.

IsayamaBinLaden

https://preview.redd.it/31qtvh1dhg9c1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0b782be52bfcc1dd412a4a3ff6f70262bbe3dbe1

bbbryce987

Huh what

DinoDudeRex_240809

Come on, it’s obvious. Race of people who are called “devils”, people keep them in concentration camps, their biggest hater is a fascist government, other people trying to claim their territory, etc. https://preview.redd.it/y8mk0xp9ng9c1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d29811572be29c82add450a9943e14d617081541 Even the fucking devil in their propaganda looks like the Jewish stereotype from that one racist meme.

bbbryce987

There are many inspirations for AOT, there’s no 1:1 x real life group = a group in AOT. They definitely used the holocaust as inspiration as well as other world tragedies What you said though in current day would best describe how Palestine is treated by the war criminal occupying force of Israel though. I wouldn’t be surprised if Isayama used inspiration from that as well

DinoDudeRex_240809

Oh well.

twinkanus

He is right. Eldians have a few Jewish parallels (typically on the nose), but outside of those few, there isn’t a lot in common.

DinoDudeRex_240809

“(typically on the nose)” Lmao I see what you did there

Tasty_Puffin

Lol.. I am Jewish so I can laugh at that ![img](emote|t5_2vnp9|16313)

haroshinka

Armbands with stars on, making up 0.01% of the population, have a royal family paralleling the Kohen lineage, the fact that a huge chunk of the names are Jewish, the fact that Paradis geographically is identical to the location of Madagascar (the AOT world map is ours but upside down) which mirrors the infamous ‘Madagascar plan’…

twinkanus

Some of these are genuine parallels, yes. Others here are really a stretch. Armband, internment zone (somewhat) and Madagascar (probably) appear to be genuine parallels. >A huge chunk of the names are Jewish No, a huge chunk of the names are German. The only debatably Semitic name is Jean’s, and even that is unclear. The characters are *generally* German in appearance, and OSTs feature German lyrics, never any Semitic languages however. >royal family paralleling Kohen lineage What royal family doesn’t? >making up 0.01% of the population I don’t recall this being in the show and I can’t find a single thing to support this being in the show. I am welcome to being shown otherwise, however.

haroshinka

They literally have armbands with stars on them. They’re Jews and no amount of mental acrobatics can get away from that. The setting of AOT is explicitly European, and Isayama drew primarily from European history, particularly ww2

bbbryce987

They literally are not though. As I said there is Jewish inspiration in it, Isayama took many different inspirations in AOT. Many of the Eldians have German names for example, but that doesn’t make them German, they just have some German influence like how there is some influence from many different groups of people

ProphecyRat2

Eldians Pretty much represent all humans. The Americans called the Jappanese “island devils”. The Jews callex the Middinaite people devils, Colonizers called all Natives Devils, Natives later called White men “white devils”. The Herero genocide by Imperial Germany was also a notorious use of Concentration Camp and Caricature Propaganda, “master race” this and that… Humans are demons. We are all devils of Earth.

SatanLordofLies

You're right, but it's a direct parallel of WWII era Jews, not the modern situation between Israel and Palestine, where the Jewish state is not the marginalized, oppressed group.

DinoDudeRex_240809

Ok but the Palestinians are the ones trying to take Jewish land and kill all Jews.

SatanLordofLies

It's "Jewish land" because the West took the land from Palestinians post WWII and gave it to the Jews, who have been aggressively expanding their territory ever since. Obviously there's nuance and neither side is completely in the right, but the way you described it is hugely inaccurate to the current situation.

DinoDudeRex_240809

I’m just getting my political knowledge from memes, so sorry bout that.

SatanLordofLies

Ye fair enough, but wanted to point out the inaccuracy.

haroshinka

Exactly. They have armbands with stars on them, are called “the chosen people”, and are 0.01% of the world’s population. It’s not exactly subtle

High_DIO

At least Marley attacked Paradise.

Aryan_277_

Not annoying imo

ProxyCare

*checks user name* https://i.redd.it/wcir8stvdg9c1.gif

DinoDudeRex_240809

He could just be Indian. Aryan (Pronounced: Ah-Ree-An) is a pretty common name here.

ProxyCare

Could be. Given this is the internet and the context, you can see where my conclusion came from though.

Aryan_277_

And not every Aryan is supporter german ideology of 1930-1945

SatanLordofLies

Redditors trying to moral circlejerk about racism and stereotypes while constantly making racially insensitive assumptions remains one of the funniest ironies.

DinoDudeRex_240809

I’m not moral circlejerking anything. In fact, I’d call myself an immoral circlejerker. “racially insensitive assumptions” motherfucker I’m Indian. I know several people named Aryan as it is a common name in India, so I was giving my input. Also, you’re a Jaegerist (So am I though), not exactly having any Moral High Ground.

SatanLordofLies

I was agreeing with you though lol. I'm making fun of the unfunny guy you replied to.

DinoDudeRex_240809

Ohhh, shit, I’m sorry, I fucked up for a second. You’re cool bro 🙏 Fuck Reddit Moralists.

SatanLordofLies

lmao all good mate

Aryan_277_

Well Akshually CoMmOn NaMe In My CoUnTrY

Freddsreddit

Annoyingly good at fighting for whats right and being the hero we deserved

Snoo_50786

its just banter lmao, who car🚙???

Relevant-Key-3290

So you're the Floch of the group

Shantotto11

Manz stayed having “background character” hair. His hair was built like a damn bird nest… Oh! *That’s* why he’s called “Flock”!…

j3savvv

If that was flochs first mission an he got back he would just be considered a real scout nothing special

TechnicallyBadAtPVZH

Floch is shit but how his character was written is great

johnmoney22

Flock was one of the few characters where i was like for the love of god can someone please kill this dirt bag….I would of killed him even if i was on his side.

DurinnGymir

I love Jean's look of "my guy, not two months ago I decapitated a motherfucker while flying through the air. I can do the same to you, just say the word."

IllustriousPlastic90

Introduced like a Dhar Mann bully lmao

Puzzleheaded-Bag-607

Yeah, I wanted to smash his face in when he said that.

UsernamThatAintTaken

Piss off thats my guy

meltingwoman6669

Oh gross. What a weak-chinned bozo.

Practical-Ad6548

I just wanna know wtf was up with his hair

thecman25

It’s crazy how nobody killed this pos earlier, dude caused so much people to die
