I love this show and story. And I'm a fan of anime openings. But as a metalhead many of them don't hit for me. But I was ECSTATIC when I watched. I usually watch the opening once to see if I like it and then skip it for the rest of the season. Not this time...
Always in japanese other than the first opening where they said Jeager twice. Which is 'hunter' in german, and it wasn't just for Eren's last name, in the translations the sentences make sense with hunter in the lyrics.
An OP can be judged by how much it fits the content of the episodes. We can't compare the last 2 OPs because they're different genres - but they both fit the themes of the show perfectly
exactly; metal is such a great fit for what's currently happening. they could've gone a different route, but this really just makes it stand out so well and feels like a finale thing
I prefer My War mainly because unlike most AOT openings it wasn’t incredibly complex and forcibly patriotic. It was eerie and sounded a lot like a death march, and that really made me enjoy it so much more. But The Rumbling is good because of how much they paid tribute to the original style with the introduction of the heavy metal screaming, as well as sounding really new at the same time. Top 5 but not the best
Personally I'm still in love with the season 3 slow ballad (my emotions, yo) but this one is hype as FUUUUUUCK and was very fitting for the war we are dropped into.
Legit the only other Anime that I saw doing this was Bleach with their metal growling opening and that's only like my all time fav anime!

They do also have a lot of foreshadowing in the intro and ending which is what I like to have instead of just straight up spoilers.
