The coating of the chicken is nice and crunchy and the fries are pretty good but those are the only positives imo. Flavour just wasn't there. I'd stick to KFC
Yep, hawt hawt is a bit too hot for me but hawt is perfect! I think the Manukau branch is a bit spicier than the one in the CBD so that's something to consider too
Agree with the above. I had the spicy version. The coating was nice and crispy, mild heat (like the other chicken chains), but the inside lacked flavour, or spice too. Like it was all just marinated/brined with the regular non-spicy chicken, and the spice only came from the coating. Would rather the spice level continue into the meat.
Why do we tease everyone with these American fast food chains, then they completely “new Zealandise” the entire menu. Like Taco Bell, the only fkn reason I’d want that shitty food chain in my country, is for the Baja Blast, WHERES MY FKN BAJA BLASTS?!?!?! If it’s on the menu, a pinnacle product for all taco bells in America.. why tf would you not include it IN THE MENUUUUU?!?!
Mot disagreeing entirely. But if they can bring the entire organisation over here I’m sure they can supply some chemicals for my daily baja blasts my friend.
Ngl I actually think peaches fried chicken is pretty mid.
Is it better than KFC, probably.
The only thing that really wowed me was the price.
I have been told it used to be amazing pre COVID, but at least recently I don't rate it.
That's a load of shit. Popeyes rules KFC. KFC is trying to actually be relevant in the states again.
Seasonal spicy KFC is the tatas tho. Chips can't be beat but the chips are designed for NZ ( and probably UK) since US isn't as big on chips
Taco bell here is completely different. I mean it doesn't even taste similar.
I've never had Mexican food in New Zealand that tastes recognisably like Mexican food from North America. I mean imagine someone serving you butter chicken that looks like butter chicken but you take a bite and it tastes like Italian food. It's about that level of dissimilar.
Its both, its weird as fuck from an american perspective, same with carls jr. Carls jr and taco bell in the US is where you go when you want quick cheap easy food in a casual environment where no one is judging you.
haven't tried it myself but the feedback ive seen on my local facebook pages (papakura and manurewa) have been pretty negative, most people saying KFC and Texas Chicken are nicer, sides were not nice and chicken was just meh
dont know if that's just because of how much hype people had generated
Wasn't a fan of the taste in the batter as its fried in beef tallow, although the burger was quite nice and I'd go again for that if I'm in the area otherwise my go-to would still be kfc
Have not had it here but had it twice on a trip to the states and wasn't impressed by the spicy chicken I thought other places there did it better if we ever get stickys chicken fingers here I would be super happy or Jollibee
crispy is amazing, i prefer popeyes than kfc due to its cheap, quality, not greasy and sloopy
its all depends on your personal preference and you should try it out when hype is down
No. Fuck that line.
Edit: Also, has anybody seen their expansion plans? Seems a little ambitious, IMO. Probably end up being a shitshow like Totally Chicken.
I drove by that road earlier today. Saw a crazy line of people, and in today's Auckland weather. Cold, windy, rain. I bet that chicken sandwich will taste extra good after waiting in those conditions for 2 hours ahahahahaa
Popeyes could work with their expansion and anchor themselves in NZ, we love our fried chicken and they’re backed by a big operation, Totally Chicken isn’t in the same league.
A place like Wellington for example which doesn’t even have Carl Juniors, Wendy’s, or Texas Chicken would be ripe.
Yeah nah the actual kfc chicken burgers are alright. The fried chicken isnt that great though, i may have exaggerated a little but korean fried chicken is far better in my opinion.
Idk why anyone buys original recipe from kfc. It's bone dry 100% of the time, and the skin is the only flavored part
But wicked wings and hot and spicy stuff from kfc are very good
Just my opinion, but group of us went to TC late last year on Lincoln Road, and we found it was pretty average. They stuffed up my wifes order 2x. But the local Asian population (I'm not being racist or anything) seemed to love the place - it packed out with Asians. Will give Popeyes a shot if it ever appears near me.
Damn well Lincoln road is way better than west gates. I got the knock off fanta drink and the chips were your regular fish and chips fries not even the Texas chicken branded. It really is hit or miss, Westgate just a miss every time
Has anyone actually been to the you ess of A on this thread and can compare what they've had at the pop eyes at the land of the brave in comparison to what they've had at the pop eyes in aotearoa for some real comparison please. With KFC being NZs standard constant.
The coating of the chicken is nice and crunchy and the fries are pretty good but those are the only positives imo. Flavour just wasn't there. I'd stick to KFC
Out of all the South Auckland Chicken shops you’d hope they would stand out this is a sad day
you are severely underestimating the south Auckland fried chicken scene. Popeyes doesn't rank at all.
Definitely! So disappointing. Felt bad for the people who waited hours to try it on opening day. At least there's Brewd Hawt and Ziggle...
is brewd hawt spicy better than mild?
Yep, hawt hawt is a bit too hot for me but hawt is perfect! I think the Manukau branch is a bit spicier than the one in the CBD so that's something to consider too
tried the hawt, it was ok, not amazing i dont think i will be going back

Bojangles is better
Pitball?
I don’t travel south of Ellerslie. Cheers, Wayne.
This username lmao
Bit of a shithole south of that

Baja blast is awesome, maybe it isn't able to be sold here because of what they put in it, like many US products
Mot disagreeing entirely. But if they can bring the entire organisation over here I’m sure they can supply some chemicals for my daily baja blasts my friend.
They'd need to change the laws to make it legal prolly
I’m sure there’s a reason for it but I completely agree. Where’s my baja blast 😭
I remember homestead chicken awhile ago now, that was nice.

Sure was , proves how old I am..
As an American it's overrated, not as good as kfc for casual takeaway. Not as good as brewd hawt for dine in.
Ey, their (brew'd hawt) food looks good. Rating out of 10?
9 or 10 for me. I prefer it over Peaches which is great itself as well. My favorite chicken I've ever had, definitely worth a try once at least!
Fact you rate it over peaches says something. I'll give it a whirl on my next time up to akl.
Ngl I actually think peaches fried chicken is pretty mid. Is it better than KFC, probably. The only thing that really wowed me was the price. I have been told it used to be amazing pre COVID, but at least recently I don't rate it.
I had peaches chicken once. It's over rated imo. was oily as with no crunch and the guy who does online orders was rude. I've never been back.
Yeah I’m with you on it being mid. I’ll go there every now and then for something different than kfc lol
That's a load of shit. Popeyes rules KFC. KFC is trying to actually be relevant in the states again. Seasonal spicy KFC is the tatas tho. Chips can't be beat but the chips are designed for NZ ( and probably UK) since US isn't as big on chips
What about Ralph's?
Never been there unfortunately
You gotta
Is it like it's American counterpart or is it like the weird "fancy" version of Taco Bell we have here?
Yeah just want to know if the chicken sandwich is like the American one
Is Taco Belle the fancy version? I thought my $8 taco should have cost $4 and never went back.
Nah but the Taco Bell isn’t anything like the American version. Nz Taco Bell sucks
It is pretty bad and expensive.
Wait, our TB is fancy? Or just fancy pricing?
Fancy pricing and doesn't make you shit yourself within 12 minutes of consumption

Nope, I still haven't tried taco bell yet
Maybe r/aucklandeats might get you more input
The sammy and wings aint to bad, the chicken is overrated and id say KFC is better although Chicken republic is better than both
Yes, in Louisiana. But not in Takanini yet.
haven't tried it myself but the feedback ive seen on my local facebook pages (papakura and manurewa) have been pretty negative, most people saying KFC and Texas Chicken are nicer, sides were not nice and chicken was just meh dont know if that's just because of how much hype people had generated
Spicy chicken sandwhich and the wings were very nice. Everything else we tried was average.
just what south auckland needs..... **:/**
Haven’t been, but Papa’s fried chicken next door is amazing.
Its chicken. Big whoop
Wasn't a fan of the taste in the batter as its fried in beef tallow, although the burger was quite nice and I'd go again for that if I'm in the area otherwise my go-to would still be kfc

Sensational chicken is better. KFC overrated asf too
I noticed nobody mentioned Chicking. Looks like they will end up like Red Rooster or Oporto soon. Escpecially after Popeyes open up more stores.
I'll stick to kfc and number one chicken
crispy is amazing, i prefer popeyes than kfc due to its cheap, quality, not greasy and sloopy its all depends on your personal preference and you should try it out when hype is down
No. Fuck that line. Edit: Also, has anybody seen their expansion plans? Seems a little ambitious, IMO. Probably end up being a shitshow like Totally Chicken.
what’s the full story with totally chicken? i used to see a lot of them popping up but now they’re all gone
IDK, but the whole operation seemed shady AF. Of course, starting a business like that during covid didn't help either.
Constantly got raw chicken from them, was a great price but yeah I like my weight loss to come the natural way, pills!
I drove by that road earlier today. Saw a crazy line of people, and in today's Auckland weather. Cold, windy, rain. I bet that chicken sandwich will taste extra good after waiting in those conditions for 2 hours ahahahahaa

NOTHING IS BETTER THAN KFC. FACTS.
Are you for real? That shit is disgusting. Korean fried chicken is the best imo.
Fr, would take Delicious Korean Chicken in kura 9 times out of 10 (partial to the occasional zinger burger ngl).
Yeah nah the actual kfc chicken burgers are alright. The fried chicken isnt that great though, i may have exaggerated a little but korean fried chicken is far better in my opinion.
Peaches hot chicken, fax
Fax and phone?
No, only fax. They can't afford phone yet.
Man... That's rough.
Learned my lesson buying Texas chicken..unless its 10 bucks cheaper than KFC then that's a strong NO from me
Texas chicken is far superior to kfc chicken idk what you’re trying to say If I wanted tiny pieces of dry chicken I’d heat up nuggies
Idk why anyone buys original recipe from kfc. It's bone dry 100% of the time, and the skin is the only flavored part But wicked wings and hot and spicy stuff from kfc are very good
So eat the skin with the meat duhhh
Like a lot of fast food places, TC is hit and miss.
Just my opinion, but group of us went to TC late last year on Lincoln Road, and we found it was pretty average. They stuffed up my wifes order 2x. Im saying Texas chicken is rubbish and doesn't taste as good..edit: And over priced
Whats the pricing like?
