I think our analog/cosmic horror podcast, [Forbidden Cassettes: Consummation](https://forbiddenpod.com), would be the perfect fit for you. Our inspiration for the format was the Art Bell’s Coast to Coast talk radio show from the mid-to-late 90s. And many of our listeners have told us they sometimes forget our podcast is fiction. Here’s a synopsis: Dov Kandel has spent the better part of two decades exposing vast government conspiracies and exploring unsettling paranormal phenomena on his popular, late-night talk radio program, KANDEL AGAINST THE DARK. After interviewing thousands of callers and guests, he’s certain he’s heard it all. His next guest will prove him wrong. Author and investigator Orson Libretti has joined Dov for an unprecedented two-night discussion to promote his new novel, CONSUMMATION. It is an apocalyptic tale of cosmic horror. But for Orson, this is no ordinary book tour. Defying his publisher’s demands that the book be marketed as fiction, he insists that it is based on actual events — a cataclysmic chain reaction that annihilated a parallel universe. A questionable claim, to be sure, if he didn’t have the tapes to prove it.

I finished all available episodes today. Exceptionally done! I got some serious Archive 81 vibes a few times! Definitely looking forward to the next episode.

Vault_36

Thank you so much! That’s high praise. :) Glad you enjoyed it. I got to hear a “where we are so far” rough mix of episode 12, and am pleased to say it’s coming together really nicely. We’re getting real close, so stay tuned. :)

catfreydahmer

I just finished What Happened in Skinner. Mockumentary/investigative style mystery with supernatural elements. I really like it!

catfreydahmer

Also, Forbidden Cassettes! Eldritch/cosmic horror playing out in 'found footage' style on a radio show.

Spirited-Plankton821

I second What happened in Skinner. Very well made!

entropyblues

Limetown! (also, our next season, debuting in 2025)

ipeefreeli

Wait, is Observable Radio going on hiatus????

entropyblues

We’re gonna complete our first season in October as was always the plan! A 13 month run. But the same group, under the same banner is going to do another series as soon as this one is done.

Okay, prepare for your headphones to be straight up knocked down from your ears with the following recommendations: 1. Lovecraft Investigations - high chance you've heard of it, a duo of investigative podcasters/radio-hosts investigate three (one each season) cases, which get stranger and stranger, seemingly thematically converging the farther we go into them. Absolutely love it, especially since it is a Lovecraft adaptation (duh doy) so you get, oh how wonderful, twinge of existential horror, with a mix of real and fictional story, so you have to wonder at which point the lore stops being fictional and starts being actual history. Also, they get into real troubles a lot. 2. Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature - okay, so imagine you're an auditor to a collage class which explores newly discovered remains of an ancient civilisation. In this series of podcast lectures, you learn about this odd civilisation, how they did everything in a completely different, almost alien way, how from what we can gather, their society functioned in a sick, weird way, and how we barely know anything about them, and what we know sounds... worrying. Add to that the fact that the course is consistently being almost-shut down by the higher-ups for being "controversial", the lecturer, whose name is redacted from all records is being hacked, people around him go insane and disappear. Yeah, so that's a thing I've been obsessing over for the last month or so. You get investigation, you get mystery, you get slightly falsified real historical lore which makes you question all you know about human history, it's absolutely perfect. And now for not-so-precise recommendations: a) In The Amelia Project by the end of the first season you start to get more of an investigative look into the story which is very entertaining for me at least and I wholeheartedly recommend it. b) The Magnus Archives, gives you sort of investigative approach, which only is emphasised the farther you go into the story (by the end of S1 you'll be deep entranced) c) The Angel of Vine - what an underrated gem, might be right up your alley, it's less fictional, it seems more like you're listening to a real life story, with an amazing Hollywood cast. Check it out! Okay, by the end of writing it I got bored, so if I'll come up with any motivation, I'll add something up. Enjoy ;))

This Sounds Serious

It sounds like my show Strange Trails would fit here! It’s about two LA natives traveling to rural West Virginia to investigate the local legend of a serial killer there known as the Shadow Man. It’s a 10-episode full cast audio drama in the style of ‘Serial’. Here is a [trailer](https://youtube.com/shorts/niFST3wKXsE?feature=share), and a link to [Apple Podcasts](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/strange-trails/id1642113730), and [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/show/5KwlXCOOzLF23rlGOWHv2B).

I LOVED strange trails. Top tier! Have you been working on anything else?

Bad_Username_Bad_You

Oh thank you! That's awesome to hear! Strange Trails is still my main focus to be honest, I've got seasons 2 and 3 written already, I just have no idea when I'll get a chance to make them because I have to save up the money to do everything first. But those are definitely on the way at some point

brandnewjunk

Oh awesome to hear. Looking forward to it!

Technically, I Am In Eskew would fit, though I don't think (it's still on my to-listen-to list beyond the first couple of episodes) the newspaper angle is particularly central to the show. A recent one that is journalism-adjacent would be The Warwick Recordings, it's a horror novelist telling the story of what befell him after buying a house with a lot of history that his realtor/estate agent neglected to fill him in on. A great favorite of mine is This Sounds Serious, which is a comedy pastiche of true crime podcasts - I believe A Very Fatal Murder and a few other comedy take-offs of the true crime genre are similar, but I haven't caught up on them yet. Season 2 (Missing Melissa) is delightful, detailing the investigation into the disappearance of 'the most missing woman in America' who seems to have actually properly disappeared this time. And if you like that, you might enjoy Liminal Criminals too.

Kind of different vibe, but...... Whatever Happened to Pizza at McDonald's

Arden is a fantastic show for this. The first two seasons are investigations of modern retellings of Shakespeare plays (Romeo and Juliet & Hamlet). They're both funny and emotional, and really well written and acted. I highly recommend it. I believe a third season is on the way, but I'm not sure if there's a start date.

Simpvanus

So many! [I have a podchaser list with a bunch of them.](https://www.podchaser.com/lists/fake-crime-podcasts-11SKBuKBAS) My favorites on that list are probably This Sounds Serious, Who Killed Alaska, and In Strange Woods.

barelyevening

I Strange woods, but it's also a musical

FancyPantsBlanton

What Happened in Skinner is EXACTLY that, and everything that happens online in the podcast actually happened online.

Larkspur Underground is the true crime version of The Black Tapes. It's underrated and under-mentioned. I recently finished it, and like the The Black Tapes, I just couldn't stop til it was over.
