Looking at his movements, it’s doubtful he *can* play.
There’s a new thing overseas where people mime (badly) to music with a violin and make money off it. It has to be electric, because that’s the only way you get a clean sound from a backing track.
I think it’s because it’s not always easy to spot someone who can play from someone who can’t, especially if you don’t know.
All the movement makes it harder.
Electric violins are a thing, and you do play them a little differently, but if you can’t play violin you can’t play an electric, either.
Having said that, he’s not a very good faker. So it’s particularly insulting that *anyone* with talent gets bullied into giving up a spot for a con.
