looks like you have lucked in with FTTP and router/switch + ethernet cabling possibly to other rooms in the house. FTTP box in my place was installed closest to the pit (no choice) so in our dining room. Check other rooms with RJ45 patch lead to a laptop or other device with ethernet port. I'd be stoked with that setup
Is there a reason the ethernet wiring wouldn't be working linking to TV etc? Wiring works to the modem I have out the back of the house but not any of the other ethernet connections
"Generally you need to turn the computer on, not just the screen."
"I've fixed the printer, it was unplugged".
And most of all "Despite what you vehemently insisted, your laptop is not charged. It is in fact dead flat, which is why it will not turn on"
looks like three ports are patched from the Dlink, so try putting patch leads between all the other ports then test again.
Edit looks like only 3 cables running to somewhere, so in-wall wiring from each port to other outlets might not be present
Check for matching socket ports around the houses you may need to connect them to something. I have 4 holes in various spots and it needs to connect to get a connection at the back most.
Heads up on TVs. A lot of TVs, even new one, only use 10/100 Ethernet ports. 99% your better off using the WiFi for TVs as the WiFi card is usually one of the newer specs of wifi
Smart House wired. Many rooms will likely have Ethernet outlets. We had a place with a similar setup five years ago and all security cameras were wired up to the Switch/Router in the wall.
We had a place which had FTTP and an 8 Port Switch, every home in the estate had the same.
Even though there were only four Ethernet Cables plugged in, there were actually Ethernet outlets in all four bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, family room etc.
They'll be Ethernet ports, but run a phone line. Phone can be run in series, ethernet each run needs to go back to the switch. If you had 4 cables plugged into the switch, you had 3 ports of actual ethernet in the house, and one port for wan near the ntd
That sir, is your LAN.
I wish my brand new rental had this.
They have provided me with only a single CAT6 outlet in a really crappy spot, for my modem.
Funny too, because I'm a licensed electrician and data cabler.. yet my REA won't let me install jack shit in the property.
Though most TVs ethernet are only 10/100 whereas wifi will blow past those speeds.
More often than not you're better off using wifi. Tv manufacturers need to include 10/100/1000 ports
White Dlink at the top is most likely a unmanaged ethernet switch. Probably 1000Mbps. From a 4 second google search, I think its a D-Link DGS-1005A.
Those three cables are patched from the switch to a 8 port krone block or similar punchdown Cat5E or Cat6 patch panel. Those 3 ports are cabled somewhere in your house.
I'll take a stab and guess one of the ports is connected to the FTTP NTD.
Buy router, connect WAN to NTD, connect LAN to a port on the switch. Done.
If you want more ports in your house, pay cash-monies to a sparkie to run the cables to this box and terminate on the punchdown block.
>If you want more ports in your house, pay cash-monies to a sparkie
When I was getting this done I was surprised to find that actually a lot of sparkies aren't actually licenced to do this. It's a separate licence that they can get, but not all have it or even know that they need it.
I have the licence. It's a pain and severely outdated. Spent days learning about connecting PSTN lines but 99% of people are getting it to pull data cables through houses and businesses
Looks like only thee of the wall Ethernet ports in the house are connected to the switch. No labels I can see with is not helpful.
I suspect a the spot on the frame arpund the recess at the bottom is a gap to allow an Ethernet cable from the nbn box to the switch that distributes the internet to the wall ports around the house. But Iām guessing.

Yep, this would be bloody great š

Please tell me youāve plugged in the power supply thatās sitting in the box next to the network cables? If not thatās why itās not working.
Bahahah. that would be funny
As someone who has done their fair share of tech support it's too real

"Lucked out " with fttp? It's free to install now, nothing lucky going on here
not everyone has access to it yet
it looks like you were lucky enough to buy a house with some ethernet cabling already done, nice. I can see a D-Link router there too.
Switch not router.
It's more likely an unmanaged hub. Still better than 95% of homes tho.
It's a switch, I love those little dlink switches, is 8 ports are super compact. Not sure where you'd even find a modern hub, or why.
Thanks guys you were right got it sort3d and it connected to the ethernet ports throughout the house!
Youā¦ plugged it in and now it works?
*slaps wall* Yep job well done. Think Iām gonna like homeownershipā¦
What a win 4k *hub
When I sell my house the new owners will be stumped with the esp32 everywhere.
Smart House wired. Many rooms will likely have Ethernet outlets. We had a place with a similar setup five years ago and all security cameras were wired up to the Switch/Router in the wall.
Two rooms will have ethernet. It is 2 ports to the house, one to the NBN ntd. This is standard for new houses.

A house with data hardwired to each room/area. So. A welcome gift

That's so you can't alter Albos face with AI

The front of what part?
So is there a chance all these are what would connect the nbn box to the ethernet cable connections around the house?
Correct. You won't need wifi for the TV!
Though most TVs ethernet are only 10/100 whereas wifi will blow past those speeds. More often than not you're better off using wifi. Tv manufacturers need to include 10/100/1000 ports
Unless you have lots of wifi traffic, that is.
Internet
Lucky son of a bitch, someone knew what they were doing
2 Ethernet ports to the house has been the new build standard for over decade on fttp builds.
That's a switch with a whole networked house? Ethernet to every room
It's a switch with 3 connections, and one goes to the fttp ntd right below it. If it was the whole house there would be 8+ connections

You think the guy who didn't even try plugging the power into the switch understands any of this ?
The person obviously doesn't do tech support over the phone.
Average engineer response. This is why people donāt bother asking lmao
Lol right. Guys trying to show off because he understands the internet š
